Amidst the fear and chaos that came with hospice and the unknown, our caretakers went above and beyond to make my father's final weeks as comfortable as possible. Our first night home, where we were at our most unsure, Maria Lerma came as if an angel. She brought with her a sense of calm and peace that we really needed. Upon finding out we are Catholic, Maria took the time to pray the rosary with my father as he fell asleep. It was at that moment that I felt, as if in answer to a prayer, "You're going to be ok." The next day, we were blessed with Pius, who stayed with us every weekday (and sometimes more) until the end. There are so many things I could say about Pius and how wonderful he was. He went above and beyond with my father. Not only did he take the time to get to know my father but also helped him keep his dignity as best he could. For someone as strong and intelligent as my father was, I know how frustrating it could be for people to come in and talk down to him or treat him as less than. Pius was never that way. They regularly would chat or just sit and watch the news together. Even toward the end when my father was no longer waking up, Pius still made it a point to turn on the news, saying that he believed it calmed my father. That attention and care was exactly what we needed. There were several other caretakers who went above and beyond that deserve recognition like Destiny who jumped right in and showed initiative, taking great care of him on the weekends. Also, Katy who spent many nights up with him getting him whatever he requested and never batting an eye. And finally Raedarianna (Rae) who was there on my father's last night when he passed peacefully. No amount of training can prepare you for a night like that. Even after his passing, she stayed with my daughter and I, offering condolences and comfort until hospice came to pronounce him. That time was some of the hardest of my life. But our caretakers were a light in a dark storm. Even when we had a rough caretaker, Griswald handled it immediately. This is a company that puts the families they care for first. Even through immense grief, it gives me peace, knowing that my father had a team of people caring for him with all they had. He deserved nothing less.

Not only did ComForCare change the price that was quoted me by phone (a significant increase per week), I put a $200 deposit down for 3 weeks of service. The caregiver just stopped coming after 3 weeks without contacting us or letting anyone know. I had to call asking if something was wrong. When I contacted the company, they said the caregiver had personal issues to deal with in Austin and said they would look for someone else. After a short while, they just ceased contact. No offer to refund the deposit, no contact about a potential replacement. I just stopped hearing from them. That was back in October and it's now April. Very, very disappointing. I want to add that Jayme was very nice and seemed supportive at first until I didn't hear back from them. If you need reliability this is NOT the company to choose for your loved one.

Lorraine Cherry is the director I believe and she always helped make sure things were done right. she I believe hand picked her staff. Nathan Hill was his chaplain and would pray with him and when he wanted no part of that then he would sit and play cards with him. I don't know what our family would have done without their whole team. Even the subs were awesome.

The birdfeeder in the backyard drew a variety of birds and squirrels which my husband could sit inside and joyfully observe. So I felt such a sense of peace when I'd come visit that my visits were long. My only regret is not having entrusted my husband's care to Gil Cortez, RN, a year ago so he could have enjoyed being cared for with such dignity, respect and competence. They document care scrawled in a spiral notebook with no consistency between providers. Our mother was their patient, and when my 89 y/o father had a fall they left him on the floor because they did not have instructions as to how to help him. No one called 911. If their providers cancel, they have no backup and the family has to fill in. The individual carers were largely great, but one of them was almost as old as my parents, stooped and frail, and could not way assist with bathroom needs. We had a meeting to express concerns but nothing much changed. I think they need a lot of work before they can really provide quality care.
