It always took at least over 2 hours or more before anyone would respond & they seemed more concerned in turning the alarm off on the pendant when they came in the room, than finding out what my grandfather needed. The food portions were quite small and if he wanted seconds, it was denied as he was always told there was no more food left. If he wanted food after meals, he was required to keep snacks to eat from what family brought in or what he could buy if they ever went to the grocery store. The trips outside the facility were frequently canceled that were suppose to allow residents to go shopping for groceries or personal items or even go to a restaurant but the one van they had available was broken so often that inevitably the trip would not occur. The main occupation was Bingo, & it had no real outside grounds to walk around. The little central outdoor courtyard they have, did not have any lounge chairs set out or any outdoor activities scheduled there. The cable provided was quite basic with very limited selection, and my grandfather had no ability to fast forward past commercials, or to record any programs as it was not standard at Colonial Oaks at Pearland. If you wanted that kind of service for your TV, you were expected to not only pay for the exorbitant Assisted Living fee but also pay for a separate TV subscription out of you own pocket (essentially paying twice for the cable service)!! The cost charged at Colonial Oaks at Pearland is quite pricey for a place that seems altogether understaffed or at least with a staff that does not seem highly motivated. I would recommend looking elsewhere for your loved ones if you seek attentive care.

And I have experience with other assisted livings and Colonial Oaks is by far the most caring I've found. The staff genuinely care. And that's hard to find. And my friend who is the resident has never liked previous assisted livings. And she has no complaints about Colonial Oaks. That says it all. Make sure and check them out if you have need for an assisted living facility. From the front desk staff to executive leadership, they are kind and caring, just the way you would expect people who work at a senior care facility to be.

So the insurance approved the stay today, at Tuscany Village. So we call Tuscany village and they say they haven't gotten the approval yet. Our case manager at the hospital calls and finally gets the story straight and Tuscany Village does not have a bed!!! They knew this all day and informed our case worker of it at 2:45pm. This is completely unacceptable; dishonest and very greedy. I understand they did not want to lose the business but there is a very real person on the other end of this situation and they have pushed back his rehab by at least another 48 hours, due to having to get another approval. Please find other options for your loved ones, these folks were dishonest with us before we even stepped foot in the building. I am exploring options on how to report to Medicare. This should not happen to anyone already going through a health crisis.

This includes: Negligence of the staff including refusal to give showers which forced our loved one to try to give herself a shower in which case she fell and got injured. After she fell, she pushed her panic button. She said nobody came to help her for over an hour. When the staff finally came, they let our Mom who has dementia make the medical decision not to go to the ER that night. I received a phone call at 12:40 am that Mom had fallen and chose not to go to the ER. I mentioned to them that I have medical power of attorney to make these decisions for Mom. I was told that this does not matter. I took Mom to the ER at 8 am once Orchard Parks opened. Fortunately she had not broken anything but had a 6" contusion the size of a grapefruit on her back that was purple and raised. The ER Dr informed us that if Mom had hit her head, she would have died as she is on blood thinners. Mom shared that the young lady who was supposed to help her with her shower would routinely come into Mom's room, sit in the chair by Mom's bed and count cash. Mom said unless you paid this young lady extra, you would not get a regular shower. Same with the laundry service. This is extortion. Mom shared the reason why she declined going to the ER is the Orchard Parks staff tried to load her into a transport vehicle with a woman who was uncontrollably vomiting. Mom was afraid to be exposed to that and rightfully so because Orchard Parks at Southfork at that time was under lockdown due to a viral outbreak which sounds like Norovirus (residents and staff are vomiting and have diarrhea). This is dangerous for seniors especially. Because we felt it was not safe for the above reasons for Mom to return to Orchard Parks after her ER visit, we brought her home. Because there was a viral outbreak at the facility, we did not want to bring her things at that time into our home right before Christmas. We spent our Christmas holiday running around buying all new things for Mom to get her set up. We're exhausted. What should have been a joyous holiday for our family, including Mom, was simply a nightmare. To add insult to literal injury, I told them in writing not to vaccinate Mom, that I would take her to CVS myself for her vaccinations. They went ahead and vaccinated her and we got a bill from insurance because they won't pay for double vaccinations. The Director, Coco, was supposed to get back to me about this error but never did. I feel the facility should pay for this since it was their error -- not to mention our concerns about Mom getting OVER-vaccinated.

Due to the poor care he received he is currently in the hospital. Despite a text from the director on July 11 saying that he would talk to the chef about a low salt diet for Dad, no one spoke with the chef and they kept him on a regular diet. He has congestive heart failure. All of that salt caused an extreme build up of fluid around his lungs, heart and legs. That was what sent him to the ER. The medication list the Landing sent with him to the ER was missing 3 medications, including his diuretic. On his first day at the facility he received none of his medication. He was in memory care at the highest level of care but they wouldn't remind him to wear his compression socks until we got a doctor's order so his legs were very swollen. They seemed to be short staffed and there appeared to be a severe lack of communication between shifts. I would not let the Landing care for my cat much less my father! Please be careful if you are thinking about this place for your loved one. They talk at great game when you are touring it for the first time but once you buy into their sales pitch they don't deliver.

After regular work hours, you may have to wait a good while for someone to let you in, also after hours, they do very little activities and it is quite possible that you will find residents unattended. If anything happens to your loved one, they do not accept any responsibility and will lie about what happened to avoid any blame on themselves. Don't leave anything nice, it WILL come up missing and the clothes will be ruined. I had to throw out almost everything my mother had because it was dingy and had spots in it. Creekside has no problem increasing their rate at any time and as many times as they want in a year. In one year, they increased their monthly rate 3 times with just 1 month notice. The director, Debbie will have you believe there is little to no employee turnover, that is not true and Debbie is away from the office more than she is there. When I asked why, employees indicated the products they used had been recalled. OK,THEN GO PURCHASE SOMETHING ELSE. We bought our own for my room and several employees used it. Even a couple doctors. Side note, they did ask permission, and of course, we said yes. I was left in soiled diapers on several occasions. I was unable to walk so I was completely dependent on the staff as many patients are. Most of the CNA's did not care about the patient. They took their time responding to calls for help. Their goal seemed to be to get the lights turned off but not to address the reason for the call light. Some would talk on their phone while in my room, the conversations were often inappropriate. On several occasions, we saw roaches. Gross, gross, gross. The nurses were better. The CNA's were horrible. High praise to the PT/OT staff! The only good thing about this facility. I blame upper management for not firing the unqualified, uncaring staff. Also, they are the ones who did NOT supply the place with hand sanitizer. The medication management is pitiful-medicine late or lost, or simply not given. The Director, CNA, nursing staff turnover is unbelievable. They don't help your loved ones eat if they need it. I've walked in and--the 1st floor nursing station at midnight and all three nurses were asleep right heads on the desk or computer monitor --on the desk. When not asleep-- watching TV on their phones. I arrived one day and a patient in a wheelchair was in the middle of the parking lot and could have been hit because it was difficult to see over the front or back of a vehicle. None of the staff even realized she was missing. It is my understanding that the patients welfare was to be checked every two hours. I sat several nights six hours and no nurse, CNA ever came in the room. Imagine my loved one was soiled for six hours. The nurses are extremely lazy with the exception of first shift. They will not even change a brief. They don't follow the doctor's orders. If you have a concern-they will not even provide you the doctor's name. I only saw a couple nurses in a period of two years ever assist a CNA. There's no permanent weekend crew. So, the facility developed a strategy to send the needy patients to emergency room if they were shorthanded or even cover an entire floor on the weekend. They employed this tactic and would inform the family after the fact. Please for the love of Jesus don't put your loved one in this facility unless you plan to take care of them there at the facility yourself. During the time my loved one was there I witnessed three different Directors. At least five social workers departed. Too many CNA's to mention left. The turnover was atrocious at all positions. Again, I wouldn't recommend putting any human in this facility.
