The staff here are very caring, professional and willing to help. My dog swallowed a sock and needed to have it removed. Since my dog's least favorite place to visit is the vet (any vet), it is a challenge to get him treated. The time had come for my Chet to move on and I checked online for the vet offices open late. This was the third office I called and they were so kind over the phone that I decided to go there. When we arrived they were so compassionate and concerned; they got us in right away to a private room that was candlelit and very comfortable and peaceful. They gave us all the time we needed to say goodbye and when it was time the Dr came. The Dr was so peaceful and calming as well...he stroked Chet's paw and was so respectful of him and what we were all experiencing. I can't thank the Dr and his staff enough for their compassion pond professionalism; they made this horrible experience go as easily as it could. I took my 11 month old kitten here he was limping not using his front paw we took x-rays and determined it was a Abscess that need to be drainedin his paw they tell me let them stay the night to drain it hours later I get a call saying that he is in cardiac arrest. Which they revived him and left him a zombie until the next morning when his body could not stay alive no longer Needless to say very unprofessional they gave him too much anesthesia which initially stopped his breathing along with his heart. Do yourself a favor and do not even waste your time going to the two other ones, they are not fully staffed and apparently cant handle multiple emergencies. Don't trust this place! On Thanksgiving day my pup started acting off, because of the holiday and pandemic there were limited options in Santa Clarita Valley, because a family member had taken her animal at this clinic I decided to drive to the AV valley instead of the SF Valley. First of all, The wait time was ridiculous, I waited about 2 hours to get dog in, like 2 hours for the doctor to examine and about 3 hrs to get xrays. We met Dr. Sandhu, he explained that xrays show ligaments were ruptured and that my pup was in severe pain and needed surgery right away, he clearly saw that I did not know a thing about the TPLO surgery he was recommending, and he recommended for my dog to stay inpatient to treat his pain for surgery that following Monday. I was shocked to get a quote for 10k. I asked to be given medication that I could give my dog at home to decide on the surgery recommended. So glad I did! I did my research and realized that even if my dog did rupture the ligaments surgery was not emergency. When I called a reputable orthopedic doctor for a consultation and I explained the emergency vet visit, instead of that office taking my money and making me an appointment, they recommended a second opinion with a veterinarian and if surgery was recommended to call them back for a consultation. With 10 days rest, my pup had a second exam and we were reassured that emergency surgery was not necessary! This doctor at AV Veterinary Center played with my emotions and gives vets a bad name. Drive somewhere else if you need to! I paid $700 for a lousy emergency visit and was asked to make a decision on the spot for a surgery that would have altered not only my pup's life but my family's life as well that was not necessary!!!! read more

We recently moved to town and I still make the drive to our previous vet an hour away because he has all of our records and knows our pets so well. AV Veterinary Center was there for us late night when our 18 yr old who was fighting multiple health issues let us know he was ready. We had prepared to have him put down at home to make things as comfortable as possible, however, best laid plans can go awry at times like this and I hesitated to take him someplace unknown but they were open and we knew he didn't have time for us to do anything else, but all my fears and worries were for nothing. AV Veterinary Center made things beautiful and comfortable as possible, they whisked us into a private room and let us spend time with our dog, the doctor that came in was kind and professional, he waited for us to be ready and understood how difficult this time was for all. Our dog went peacefully in our arms as I'd hoped; it couldn't have been any better had we done it at home. They are handling the cremation for us and we received a lovely card signed by the whole staff. They obviously love animals very much, we are seriously considering transferring some of our dog's care to this facility. read more

This is the second time Ive been here, the first was with a friend who never saw a vet and was charged hundreds of dollars for a misdiagnosis that cost her dog his life. Last weekend I took my dog in for what I thought was a bite, I never saw a vet only a tech. I was told after racking up hundreds of dollars that it was a sprain. The tech wanted to do a full blood line to check for pancreatitis, diabetes etc and when i asked about a tox screen I was told again there was no bite so I turned down the bloodwork as I was not there to establish care but for a localized injury. The tech continuously tried to get me to sign up for ongoing physical therapy which I said I would follow up on with my primary vet, he even tried to take my pups pain pills from the primary doc and sell me the exact same prescription. 72 hours later and his leg is at least 4 times the size of normal, rock hard and the the two little spots i pointed out three days ago that i was assured was not a bite now show as very visible puncture wounds. When i called and told them what was happening the receptionist said she couldnt guarantee any part of the nearly $400 i just paid would be applied to another visit even though they missed the bite i pointed out. Now Im afraid I will lose my pup because a tech misdiagnosed what i thought was an obvious bite for a sprained ankle and the actual vet never took the time to talk to me. They are the only overnight clinic in the area but unfortunately twice now in my experience they seem more concerned with racking up bills with useless tests (test for pancreatitis when his leg is swollen but says they dont need to do a tox screen?) and getting you to agree to expensive ongoing therapy. If its really an emergent situation and your pet cant wait for your normal vet to open then you need to do whats best for the animal but after never actually seeing a vet and being severly misdiagnosed i feel like as soon as I told them i would go to my vet for normal bloodwork and any further treatment they just wanted to charge as much as they could. If your pet can survive the night Id take them to Rosamonsd, she actually cares about the animals. read more

This is the only vet open 24h in the AV so we went and had a great experience. We called first and were greeted by a friendly employee who confirmed for us that we could walk in with our dog. They attended us right away and no one made us feel like our Pitbull was to be treated with extra caution just because he's a pit. Every employee that encountered us asked if he was friendly and were fast to pet him and treat him with love. Our dog had a puncture wound from a scuffle with another dog and was bleeding and limping. They gave us the most basic and simplest estimate. Easy to understand not only in its language but I also understood why each item was ordered. I don't feel like I was estimated for any unnecessary products or services. They gave him a pain injection, shaved him, stapled 2 wounds, have us pain and antibiotic Rx and cone and sent us on our way. Such a clean, friendly and hassle free environment. I'm glad I know about this place. Super affordable too. My dog was not bleeding anymore and was walking with much improvement. read more

Not only did Doctor Petra Johansson Holland misdiagnosis my dog, she said that my dog was experience growing pains from soft bone tissue. I took my dog to a real Vet that is licensed and asked for a second opinion and the x-rays clearly showed the damage to my dogs leg. The night I came to Dr Sandu's clinic, that lady Dr said that because I had a large dog, they would have to put her under light anesthesia in order to get an x-ray done. But first I had to have blood work done so they knew she would not have any problems going under with her heart. It took over 4 hrs to get the x-rays done and they said they had to sedate her twice, then put her under - OMG my poor baby. Then they told me she was experiencing growing pains and to keep her on a leash for potty breaks and walks and in a month she would be fine. They sent me home with 3 kinds of pills and tried to add a 4th,. The pills were for a month - taken 2 times a day. I wish I would have done my research first and gone to Apple Valley Animal Hospital instead. We recently made the tough decision to put our dog Jack down. We rushed him to AV Veterinary Center (our first time there) after we found him in the midst of his worse seizure yet. His seizures, coupled with a great increase in aggression, lead us to our decision. The staff at AV Veterinary Center were so kind and gracious every step of the way, particularly Dr. Shokar. I cannot say how grateful my mother and I were for his understanding and empathy throughout the entire process. We were given our own room with a blanket and dimmed lights to say our goodbyes to Jack, and allowed to stay there as long as we wanted. Although my heart is heavy at the loss of my pup, I have nothing but positive things to say about AV Veterinary Center. read more

Our barely 5lb chi/terrier mix, "Boy" hurt his leg and was acting very very "off" (not wanting his favorite treats etc) and we were just overall worried about him. We arrived around 1130pm on a Sat. night and we were seen almost immediately. They gave him pain meds and did xrays. Found no break (yay!). The staff was all very kind and the doctor was wonderful. We live in Tehachapi, so we do not have any emergency vets in town; we now know where we can go when needed and feel confident about the care! Terrible service, Worse place ever, they did not even take a look at my puppy. Tested him at my car, 30 minutes later comes out with an estimate of over $3k without even seen my puppy. The back office nurse was so rude her name is Selene she even said "i can kick you out if i want" what type of attitude is that or does how they treat the patients, unacceptable worse service ever. My puppy was sick and they did not even care. All they care is about money. I ask for a letter with a diagnosis and she handwrite it. This place saved my dog's life. We took him in late on a Saturday night and were seen right away. Our bill was expensive but it was worth it to have my little guy home and healthy the next day. The staff was friendly and the doctor was very knowledgeable. The called us several times to give updates and have called since to check in with us. Our small dog was not seen in the dark and stepped on, This is the only place that was open AND THEY TAKE CARE CREDIT. We did not want him to suffer. He was a 21 years old and we could see making him go through the pain of surgery esp. because he had been having strokes recently. That is how he ended up in the middle of the hall in the dark. Brought my baby goat in for what we suspected to be poisoning. We rushed her to the nearest hospital which was, unfortunately, this place. When we first arrived, the lady told me they didn't see farm animals, and I was prepared to take my goat to a different location, but she went and asked the Doctor if he would see her. They took her and had me pay a $600 deposit just so she could be seen, which we had no problem doing as it was an emergency. They asked me to bring her food so that they could feed her once she was stable. Drove home and back, brought them fresh milk, and already measured formula to mix in her bottle so she could eat. They told me they would call me the next morning and afternoon to update me on her recovery. I never received a call and had to call them myself at around 10:30, to which the lady who answered told me she was doing extremely well and would be ready to leave at 12:30 pm. I arrived on time and called to tell them I was outside, to which they informed me her bill had come up to $730. I paid over the phone and they told me a technician would be waiting outside with her and her release papers. Instead, I waited almost 2 hours in the sweltering heat and I called them numerous times to which they gave me lousy excuses. My mom and I were fed up and starving, and went down the street to get some food while we waited. 5 minutes after we left, they called and rushed me back to the hospital to which they let me inside into a waiting room with a nurse who informed me that my goat, Ares, was in fact not stable, and hadn't even had a heartbeat 20 minutes prior. But did they tell me this? Of course not. They had me pay $700 dollars and did absolutely nothing for my goat. Instead of telling me they were unable to provide her adequate care, they milked me for as much money as they could get, ad then recommended euthanasia without even explaining what had happened. The nurse told me he would get the Vet for me to talk to, and instead left me in the waiting room for almost 40 minutes. I continuously asked the ladies at the receptionist's desk when I would be able to speak to the doctor or see my goat and I never even got a solid response, just excuses. A nurse from the back came out to tell me my goat was crashing once again, I went to let my mother int through the front door, and we rushed to the back where my goat had flatlined minutes before. I touched her body and she was ice cold, almost like she had been dead for a while. I never got to speak to the vet, never received a receipt for the $730 I paid, and when I asked for her bottles back, they returned the untouched formula I had delivered to them the night before. They let my goat starve all night and all morning, which explains why she couldn't fight anymore. Never received an invoice for the procedures and what they actually did for her, which was in fact nothing! These incompetent losers killed my baby and didn't even apologize for my loss. I've reported them to the DCA as of earlier today, and I hope Dr.Sandhu never touches another animal in his life. Had I known of the multiple charges of negligence against him and the time that he was on probation, I would've driven a little farther to have my Ares seen somewhere else. I came here on a Sunday afternoon because my 3 year old Pomeranian hurt his leg and was in serious pain he couldn't put any weight on his back leg..he is my companion dog to help with my PTSD ..I'm retired and on a fixed income...they said since I didn't have the money...and don't qualify for there credit plans ..since I'm not financing anything I own my home and cars ..and have only one credit card ...that they can't help me.. they did nothing for my dog ..but they charged me $25 to tell me that sorry but that's the vets dicission... I'm in shock I thought you became a vet to help animals...not send them away in pain....I received your reply sir as you see...let me inform you that your staff was more concerned about the money and not my pet...even after I told them that I could pay $300 now and the rest on payments or when my next payday in full I just wanted my pet helped he was in pain was again told that sorry but our prices are fixed and to try a different vet that maybe would be cheaper...and was turned away..feeling that staff was more concerned about the money and not about my pet...his name is NOAH by the way and no thanks to your staff I was able to get him seen by a vet that cares more about NOAH than the financial services they provide..and helped him in just a few minutes and not hours..his hip was dislocated and was easily fixed at a fair price...I've lived in the AV for over 50 years and have got to know a lot of people here with pet's I will make sure not to ever refer them to you...I will however refer them to Dr SEARS... read more

April 28, 2021 at 5 am I called AV Vet Center from the parking lot and explained the problems my pet was having. My dog, Missy, was their patient and was still under their care for stitch removal and follow-up care. I was told to come back at 11 even though the OPEN sign was on. I told the worker I was worried she'd die from a heart attack from the pain by then. The worker asked if Missy had pain pills, and I explained she isn't eating or drinking so I can't give her the pills. She still said go somewhere else or come back at 11. Knowing that every other place was closed at this time, I said I'd wait in the parking lot. After I said, "bye" she hung up without saying bye or anything else. Within five minutes she walked towards the front door and turned off the light in the front consultation room, and then she rudely switched off the bright red OPEN sign, a place that is open 24 hours. About ten minutes later I called back to ask if Missy needed an appointment to be seen at 11 or just walk-in, I asked her name this time and was given "Tiffany." Then I left because it was clear they did not care to see Missy, not even to give her an injection for the pain. Before I could have Missy seen by another vet, Missy died at 7 am. I am forever haunted by the look of anguish and pleading in Missy's eyes before she took her last breathes. I couldn't stop her pain as I watched her pass away, and to be turned away like she was is the cruelest form of treatment I've ever encountered. This single person answering the phone took it upon herself to reject Missy. She didn't care what happened next. When I called that afternoon to speak with the office manager and inform them of their worker's behavior, I was told the office manager would call me back in five minutes since they were "in the middle of a procedure." More than ten days later, and they still haven't called back. Not even the office manager cares that their workers are rude and uncaring. This place needs to be shut down. They don't care about your pets. They don't care about you. Save yourself and your pet the pain and heartache and go somewhere that cares. You won't find it here. read more

One one star was too many stars. Yesterday I was in the middle of an emergency that was very uncomfortable and had me crying& panicing and screaming for help. I'm running with my small Chihuahua who had just eaten some sort of poison and was dying in my arms with my ten-year-old by my side. I walked into this business, tears falling down my face, begging for help, they would not even look at my dog or give me advice or even tell me where I could go to find help without giving them them $500! Shame on everyone working in this building! Shame on the person that watched me walk out crying with my dog dying in my arms and my ten-year-old crying next to me. No one cared & no one looked twice as I ran back to my car looking for another option. I finally found Mission Animal Care on 10th Street West in Palmdale Boulevard. With open arms , they helped me and my dog is doing well. I did have the money to pay for my bill I just didn't have it in my hand at that moment I needed help and for that reason my dog could have died ....not that anyone cared . They would not even give me a referral! Not only was it unprofessional but the carelessness that was used yesterday at this company proves one thing... They are not animal lovers they are money lovers. read more

I have been bringing my dogs for the last year because the last vet I took my pug to overlooked some serious symptoms that resulted in her death. This clinic has been the only one where the offices are decent, the staff is nice, and the veterinarian seems genuine and I trust him. However, the wait times for this office are ridiculous. Even before the pandemic, wait times have been a serious issue. I also found some of the prescription medications greatly overpriced , so I went through a 3rd party vendor to avoid having to wait so long ( I once waited 45 minutes just to get my dogs eye drops). The clinic never responded to the third party vendor's request for approval. I had to call myself, ask them to check their paperwork, and then they approved it. I love the staff here but I just can't do the wait times. I have resorted to finding another clinic perhaps one that is sufficiently staffed. read more

If you are coming for critical care I DO NOT RECOMMEND!!! They see that you are vulnerable and would do anything to save your pet so they charge you crazy!!! Just to keep my puppy overnight was $1,150!! It didn't even seem as if they fixed my puppy!! They just gave him pain meds but that's it! They said X-rays were included in the price but then we came the next day and they told us it wasn't included in the price! So what did I pay for???! I went multiple times to see my puppy and they all seemed annoyed and were slightly rude! I called multiple times as well and no one gave me any updates on him! He was there 24 hours and had not gotten checked by the doctor yet! The doctor was in when I asked if he could check my puppy but they said he wasn't available! It still shocks me to this day that i got no information back! The communication in that place was horrible! I went at 10am the next day and then came back sporadically throughout the day and I was not being told of any updates!! I went in to pick him up at 8pm and they wouldn't release him to me because I was being charged extra for something I didn't approve! Obviously if my puppy needed it I would've payed for it but they didn't tell me I was being charged at all! Like I said, they would not inform me of anything!!! I was being charged an extra $50 for a shot I didn't approve! They said that I called them and approved it but I know for a fact I didn't approve anything! Never coming back to this place! I even noticed that the other animals in the back were not taken care of regularly! Also one of the nurses said she doesn't normally care for the animals that come in but for my dog she did! She should care for every animal that walks through their door! And the ladies that were "taking care of him" would tell me that they fed him but when I brought him home he was scarfing food down like I've never seen before! If I had hard proof of this I would sue this business! They don't deserve to be called "vets"!! read more

I recently had my dog, Sadie, treated here after she was hit by a car. This is the second time I have had to use AV Vet Center for a pet emergency. I find the staff very caring, compassionate and efficient. I found one of the techs (Wren) on the floor consoling my dog when I went to visit. They keep the hospital extremely clean. I have seen them mopping the floors on several occasions, and every time I went to see my dog she had new, clean bedding. I feel their prices are reasonable considering they are an emergency clinic. On 10/14 we brought our dog in because she was acting lethargic and couldn't jump up on the couch (as she usually does). From the moment we brought her in we knew we were in good hands. After being hospitalized for a couple of days while tests were being run they found that she was bleeding internally and had a possible mass on her only kidney. They gave her plasma to help stop the bleeding since her body wasn't doing it itself. Doctor Sandhu advised that we may need to have surgery to see what was going on in there since the CT scans, x-ray, and ultrasounds weren't showing much (just a mass). All of the staff we encountered were wonderful. We asked a lot of questions and they answered them honestly. We brought her home for a couple of days so that she could eat and sleep in her own bed comfortably before the surgery. We noticed she was acting much more like her usual self but still held back from running and playing. We brought her back in on Friday 10/19 for her surgery. During her pre op tests they ran another x-ray and the mass was gone. Her blood work was normal. Doctor Sandhu was so happy to give us the news that he did not have to perform the surgery and explained that she will still need to have a follow up to make sure it does not come back. I took my dog and cat to this vetrinary hospital for treatment. The first time there our dog was a little hyper because he is still a young dog they complained because he jumped up on the tech to be playfull but they treated his anxiety with trazadone.When we brought my cat there to be treated for a simple upper respiratory infection he was looked at by a vetrinarian from India he wore his hair and dressed unprofessionally for a vetrinarian and he came in with a huge itemized list of stuff he wanted to do which were not necessary and tried to get 835 dollars from us I called a vet I knew that is in San Diego and when she called him and said not of that stuff was necessary this vet was rude and unprofessional and told her to go fuck herself.They gave me a two week refill on my dogs medication and told me to go elsewhere from now on.I now recieved a response from this place saying I was racist that is a damn lie I did not say anything racist about the vet except he was from India I did not call him a racist name not once read more
