I have been at Avalon Bedford for nearly 4 years now and I can't say enough about Steve from the maintenance team and Ava from the Main office. These are two individuals who are very responsible, respectful, honest hardworking persons. Steve is amazing at keeping the grounds and atmosphere welcoming and clean. Steve is also very quick to respond to any maintenance issues that arise. His professionalism and kindness go above and beyond. Ava, is just as hardworking, kind, and caring when dealing with Residents/People. Ava's patience and dedication others is what makes this community run smoothly!! After filing out an inquiry form on their website, Avalon Bedford proceeded to email me numerous times over the next 7 days, asking to set up an appointment for me to come see a unit. I scheduled it and 10 minutes before my appointment, when I had already driven 2/3rds of the way there, I received a phone call from them saying I could come if I want but they have nothing to show me. I expressed my frustration at the barrage of emails pushing me to come in to see an apartment that doesn't exist and was told that those are "automated" emails and the woman who sends them [which means they are not automated] works somewhere else and doesn't have any visibility into what's available and what's not because "the system" doesn't show that. This is one of the largest apartment/townhouse companies in New England with properties all over. This is literally what they do but their system doesn't show anything? A few minutes after I got home, I received yet another email, stating "Sorry YOU couldn't make it to your appointment" and asking me to reschedule. Absolutely ridiculous and a total waste of my time. They' clearly don't have their act together at all and I won't consider any Avalon location after experiencing their incompetence. read more

I want to disclose prior to furthering this review, that I do not live at this complex. But Amanda makes me wish I did! Accidentally sent a package to the wrong city and it ended up in this complex. Amanda reached out to the unit it was sent to, coordinated a pickup and even took my package to an Uber I called for it. Really great staff in this office. All the love! read more

I moved into this complex about a month ago and love living here so far. It's a small, pet-friendly community in a very residential area. It's a close walk to the town center, library, restaurants, and shops, which is incredibly convenient. The grounds and units are beautifully maintained, and the residents are friendly and seem to look out for one another. The staff here (Michael and Gail in the front office, and Steve on the maintenance team) have made my transition into the new apartment, and the community, seamless. They made sure that I was satisfied with the condition of the apartment prior to move in, and have checked in on me periodically since. They have also been right on top of any repairs and/or issues that needed to be taken care of since moving in. I look forward to what the rest of my time here will bring...getting to know my neighbors better, and exploring this beautiful town and neighboring areas. read more

So, where does one begin with this place. First the place is nice, Bedford is a nice town, no problems there. The problems and issues is with Management that run the place. Management doesn't care about the people, they don't care about issues and problems that come up with other tenants, as long as they get their money that's all they care about. You turn to them thinking they will help you, but they don't. No matter how hard you try and beg them to help you, they don't and they don't care. All they care about is the almighty buck and that's it. Another thing too, they only cater to the people that live here who pay the regular rent, which consist of well over $3000, and up to $5,000. For the people that are low income category, if you have section 8, and need renovations and repairs in their apartments, they won't do anything for you. They did a bunch of renovations before covid hit and they only renovated the apartments for the regular paying tenants and the people who have section 8 voucher those apartments were not renovated or updated at all. So, Avalon doesn't care about people's well being, not at all. read more

I have lived here for almost a year and have had problem after problem. No heat in the winter, no working ac when it got warmer. I have neighbors that let their children play in the hallways and although reported to management nothing has been resolved. A neighbor or a guest of a neighbor backed into my mothers car and left without leaving information. Maintenance can be slow to respond, and minimal diversity in the complex. I have been treated poorly by staff and management and wouldn't advise anyone non-caucasian to move here. read more

I recently had a problem with my garbage disposal and maintenance was extremely responsive. Steve was the best, very friendly and professional. He made sure the disposal was working before he left. Can't say enough for the response time and outcome! read more

For the past 14 plus years my mother lived happily in these apartments. She was very much known in the town of Bedford. She moved into Avalon because I moved 3000 miles away. she wanted something smaller. I would get out and see her as often as I could. She never really complained about Avalon. Expect one year, her car got hit by a snow plow. but other then that she was happy here. Sadly, and unexpectedly she passed away. When I went down there, they wouldn't let me in to get any of her personal belongings. At first, I was upset. But now I understood why. For 3 to 4 months my mother's belongings we're just left untouched. During that time, I was working on the whole probate thing and taking ownership of her belongings. I forwarded the papers that I received from the courts to Avalon.  The next day, Avalon called up some moving company and just packed up all my mom's stuff. I could have been on a plane the next day. I am very upset on how things went. I should have been given the opportunity to clear out MY mother's apartment. I understand you wanted it rented, but why wait until I got the paperwork.  Why did you use evictions movers?  14+ years!  This was unfair. read more

Just a further update after receiving the itemized list of deductions. It is clearly geared towards not giving back the deposit. We had our walls painted white - yet they had a charge for painting the entire apartment. After living in a place for fours years, granted we had a few spots on the carpet, but they change their carpets entirely anyway. Their strategy seems to be to make the earlier tenant pay for it. We had the entire apartment cleaned and it looks as clean as it could be, yet a full cleaning charge. Clearly, their strategy is to not give up the deposit without a fight. I will make the effort to take them to small claims court for this. Hopefully I'll get some of my money back. They don't value their residents at all. If you can find a better deal and a more flexible landlord, go elsewhere. This is far from perfect. read more

I lived here for 8 months and really thought it was a great place. The apartment was immaculate when my roommate and I moved in and the staff was very pleasant. The few times we had to contact maintenance they came out the very next day and it was very easy to submit a maintenance request via online. Overall, a really nice place to live (especially for families) but if you are a young professional you may want to check out another Avalon establishment closer to the city. read more

We moved into an apartment that had tenants above us with a history of being a problem. They continually sound like they are doing gymnastics on the floor above us and management seam completely ineffective to deal with the problem. Simple solution would be to move us to a livable apartment but they don't seam to want to help us.They even have experienced the noise and were shocked.....But no help has been offered...I would not rent here again read more

If you're at this site trying to decide between Avalon in Bedford and somewhere else, my advice is, go somewhere else. When they are trying to get you to sign a lease, the staff here is very helpful and friendly. Once in, they are so-so. On your way out, they are absolutely awful. As others have noted, unless you are willing to take legal action against them (which most people don't have the time or inclination to do, especially once you have moved away from the area), forget about getting your deposit or any excess rental payments back. They will create all kinds of spurious charges to make sure of that. After initiating legal action they returned most of the money they thought they could get away with taking in my case, but dealing with these folks was a terrible experience. The staff is fundamentally dishonest and unethical. As far as living at Avalon (which I did for 2 years before I had enough), I would give them a mediocre rating. They bill themselves as a "luxury" community. It certainly is not that. The amenities do not represent a good value for the rent they charge (unless you have one of their subsidized units) and the thin walls mean that you should pray that you have considerate neighbors. The best part of Avalon in Bedford, is Bedford. It is a very nice, family friendly area, and a pleasant town to live in. So while Bedford is a good choice, think twice before signing a lease at Avalon. read more

Horrible place, and it's too bad because it is a beautiful, safe, small community conveniently located right outside of Bedford Center, and Bedford is a great residential town for families. I've lived in this Avalon for 4 &1/2 years with my two children. We signed for a brand new apartment when it was built. We pay our rent monthly without incident, we cause no trouble, we are educated, clean, respectful tenants and neighbors. I have a wonderful business in town, I love the town, and I wanted to raise my children in a safe and clean environment without worrying about shoveling, etc. We are leaving and we are counting the days. The first issue is that our rent has increased every year (we are now paying one of the highest rents). We can afford it, but we are paying more and more, while the quality and value of our apartment depreciates, and Avalon DOES NOT CARE. The second issue is the management -horrible. You are made to feel like a second-class citizen. In this beautiful, intimate surrounding, you see frowning faces and unhappy alienated staff which is odd. The couple of people who happen to be the current staff have no clue about managing this community, and after 4 & 1/2 years, I am not made to feel welcome and it is uncomfortable, especially considering the rent I am paying. The office is grossly inconsistent with their "rules" (it is a joke). I get "notes" on my door for having any little thing -a kid's bike, a wagon, a scooter- in view because it is "not up to Avalon Standards". Our rent includes our balcony. Avalon offers no other solution, and we are living with our bikes IN OUR LIVING ROOM. We are NEAT people and are treated like 2nd class citizens, and it feels like harassment. I have walked the property with other disgruntled and confused tenants (and there are PLENTY), and we will see patios littered with trash. Meanwhile our blinds have been cracked for four years. Our walls need painting, our RUGS, though we have them cleaned professionally on a regular basis, NEED replacing. Our dishwasher has been broken for two years. I called right away when something was wrong and maintenance 'hemmed-and-hawed', mumbling. I called again because the machine isn't cleaning and it is not safe or healthy, and again they came, tinkered and left the machine as-is. Now I just wash by hand. What if the washing machine or dryer breaks? I pay hundreds more now for a place that is worth half as much. It is not up to "Avalon Standards" evidently to maintain their apartments for the rent-payers. DON"T LIVE HERE. The pool allure is ridiculous as well. It looks great to prospective tenants, but don't be fooled. No one knows what the "rules" are (my first year I had to ask seriously, "Are we actually allowed to swim?") The lifeguards don't speak English and are rude, and the management here once again COULD NOT CARE LESS about a thing except for the facade of the place for 'future tenants'. Their only productivity managerially is leaving letters of complaints at your door. If you work all day and just want a place to eat, watch TV, sleep, fine, and if you are a transient. This is NOT a kid-friendly or people-friendly place. Your HIGH rent is for Corporate Avalon, and NOT for your comfortable life-style. Don't do it. Either buy a home or stay here only until you find another place to live. We have found a home to rent in Bedford and we can't wait to get out of Avalon. Too bad too, because we can afford it here, and it could be a very nice place to live. Very, very poorly done. read more

We recently moved from Avalon in Bedford and loved it there. WE lived there for 2 years in a one bedroom apartment with a loft. Once the microwave broke and maintenance was there within 2 hours to fix it. We liked that hey give you the option to paint a couple of your walls. I thought that the facility was very well managed and that they were always open to negotiating prices of rent, trying to make things work for you individually. I have rented in different facilities over the past 6 years in undergrad, then graduate school and must admit the experience I had here was the best. read more

We lived in a townhouse there for 4 years and loved it. The quiet location, the well kept property, and the great staff made it a pleasure to live there. Lots of conveniences within 5 mins, 10 mins to highway and 15 mins to Burlington Mall. Would definitely recommend it. read more

I have lived at Avalon for six months now and have been enjoying it very much. The office staff is pleasant and helpful. The development is well cared for. Steve the maintenance technician is fantastic. He is thorough and detail oriented. He always finds a way to fix the problem. I lived there for over two years. Used to be a nice place to live until the good maintanance people left and new ones come, some are very rude. Very poor management. Do not maintain the apartments as they used to. At our old place we got free carpet cleaning every year, here they made people to pay for carpet cleaning after they moved out. Parking was a problem too, people who lived in the townhouses with garage used the garage as storage and took the parking spaces from us. could not park front of may apartment and got yelled at by !! one of the maintanence guy !! At the pool they hire lifeguards from Eastern Europe, who does not speak very much in English, and one of them even fell asleap by the pool behind her sunglasses. Also very rude person. Also not too kidfriendly , we- and some other neighbours as well - were told not to keep bikes and toys visible not even on the deck. Do not recomend this place to anyone. read more
