I try and come here every 2 to 4 weeks because, on the side of the store, there are constantly updating the mural on the wall, it is like a revolving door, lol. it's right outside the MTA subway station entrance, I always add the mural photos to Avalon Chemists, because then anyone can find the murals and maybe bring some business to them since I wouldn't want someone else to take over this spot and not allow murals to be painted. I pick up my rx here once a month and I've always had the nicest encounters with the staff. They deliver but I happen to like walking into here. I love the old school vibe and pharmacy smell. What I also found out is the prices for your everyday needs are priced so reasonably it's comparable to the big name pharmacy stores if not cheaper ! They have sales also. They close at 7p. Yelp says they close at 8p. I went there the other night after 7 thinking they were still opened. The door was locked but I called bc I needed my med. Someone answered and kindly let me in to receive it. Awww. You won't get that at cvs ! read more

Aside from sounding like EVERYONE ELSE commenting about this place, I am thrilled to RAVE about Avalon Chemists. Friendly, efficient (except for their website which seems to freeze up my computer) and above all, customer service oriented. I call to ask for delivery,...NO PROBLEM. Everything is taken care of and they go out of their way to make sure you pay the least amount possible. Hurray and thank god for Avalon Chemists.... seriously... If I had to go to Duane Reade and deal with their rudeness, I'd probably be in jail by now. ;) read more

I keep meaning to review Avalon -- it is such a great antidote to the living zombie hell that is Rite Aid and the sullen service at ProCare. These guys are lightning fast (almost all of my prescriptions filled in 15 minutes), there's almost never a wait, and if they can't reach your doc about a refill or if your insurance company won't pay for something, they take the initiative and call you. Calvin the head pharmacy guy is a doll, supersmart and competent. The truncated hours can be a pain, yes, but the service is unbeatable. And it's nice to support a small business in the nabe. read more

I prefer to shop "the little guy" over big chains, and am even willing, sometimes, to deal with some inconvenience to this end. But with Avalon Chemists, I don't need to. Everyone is friendly and efficient, even with unusual requests. Like this week: I'm a nurse, and will be administering an antibiotic at home to a family member, which involves getting all sorts of infusion-related supplies. James called to talk about the prescriptions with me, and had everything ready for pickup the very next day. The best pharmacy in lower Manhattan; hands down. I'be been going here since they opened, and Calvin the pharmacist is very pleasant, helpful, and proactive (I didn't even know I needed a pre-authorization for a prescription and he called my Dr. and did all of the leg-work, and then called to update me), the staff is nice, and it feels like a small-town pharmacy like they used to be in NYC. I've seen the staff treat other challenging customers with patience & kindness, and one elderly customer was treated with such respect & familiarity, that it was heartening to witness. I really won't go anywhere else unless I have to, and small businesses like these are all too hard to find nowadays. I hope they stay in business for a long long time read more

Organized, fast, professional and friendly... They are everything the big chains are not. If there is a problem, they find good solutions and work with your doctor instead of being told that I am S.O.L. , which seems to happen at CVS every the time I go there. I had a bit of an accident a few weeks back and had to get a bunch of medicines. However, I couldn't walk so needed all this stuff delivered. To my surprise, my Avalon Chemists did free delivery and I had everything I needed with 20(!) minutes. The prices were great too. Avalon Chemists isn't the closest pharmacy to my apartment and their hours aren't great. However, after that incident and how helpful the staff had been, I decided to say no to Duane Reade, and walk a few extra blocks to keep a wonderful place like this in business. read more

I go here to get my scripts filled and until this place i never had been to a pharmacy i liked. Everyone that works here is sooo nice and helpful. I tell everyone i know to go there to get their prescriptions filled here. You cannot beat this kind of service. Plus they deal with your insurance company (and doctor) so you don't have to. It's amazing! no more insurance grief. I live in Brooklyn and i go to this pharmacy...it's just worth it. No matter where you live in the city i would go here. read more

Just had to add to all of the good reviews on this site. Everyone in our neighborhood is thrilled to have this wonderful local business nearby. Calvin and his whole staff are just fantastic, lovely people, who always give us great advice. I don't know why people in the area would ever go to an impersonal, overpriced chain store, when they can instead interact with such nice people at Avalon Chemists, who care so much about their customers. They remember every person, each time they come in. They also really came through for me when I was realized I was out of an important medication, the day before a holiday weekend too - they managed to get track down my doctor when I couldn't, and helped make sure I had enough medicine for the weekend. And, they did it with a smile, too! They really make every single person their priority. I can't say enough about this wonderful local place. read more

Calvin and team deliver a level of customer service unrivaled by other pharmacies - including neighborhood delivery. It costs the same no matter where you fill a prescription, so I can't imagine why anyone would choose to go anywhere else.
