Watch your items! I had six large organized bags of quality men's clothing and athletic shoes. The male clerk said there was one person ahead of me and tried to convince me to go to a nearby coffee shop to wait. He said they would call/text me when the owner/manager was ready. I didn't want to leave decided to shop around. After about 30 minutes I went to inquire if she was ready and the clerk said she was finishing up the last bag. She had gone through all my stuff while I was right there in the store and never called me over. They knew I was there as we made eye contact several times. He then offered me $17 for a pair of Puma sneakers and a tee shirt. I traded for a Jean jacket and took my bags and left. I noticed that the bags were lighter and went through them when I got home. I found several items were missing and bags were unorganized. So be careful and don't leave your things with them. They are untrustworthy and will steal your stuff. read more

I absolutely LOVE Avalon. I can't tell you how many times I've found extremely great quality threads for extremely low prices. For example, some amazing items I've found include: - Aldo high-heel ankle boots - originally $120, Avalon $18 - Zara white leather sneakers - originally $140, Avalon $30 Other finds include Adidas sneakers, genuine leather purses, and formal dresses - all in great shape, all for less than $30. Avalon really prides itself on getting pieces that are high end and still in good shape, which gives you the peace of mind of having high-quality clothes while being eco-conscious and budget-conscious. I also love the location - I live in Cleveland Heights, so it's super convenient to get to, and you can park on the side street right next to the shop, so you don't have to worry about walking too far if it's cold outside. All this being said, I've never tried to sell clothes at Avalon, so I don't know what that experience is like. I would imagine they're fairly picky, so they might not actually take your clothes unless they're a really nice brand and still in great condition, but I can only speculate at this point. read more

Now I'm looking at my items in a basket that she's not counting and they try to give me $14 so I counted in front of them. In front of her boss and the boss tried to pull one by. Hurry up and gathering up a slip that has six items on it. I said give me all my clothing item. Because if I stole from you you would call the police. I consider what you are doing. I have been in this store a couple times before and went there today to sell some clothes for the first time. The selling process went smoothly and the staff were great. As an FYI, their buying hours are M-S: 11 am - 7 pm; Sunday: Noon - 5 pm. The clothes that I brought in were some fairly nice sweaters. I was surprised that they only took one of them. Not that there is anything wrong with that, but when I was browsing around the store, I realized that that there are very few designer labels and higher quality items. I would shop there more often if they had a larger selection of such items. For me, that is the point of shopping consignment - to find special items that would otherwise be expensive if they were new. read more

i don't usually leave reviews on yelp but i had a really bad experience here about a month ago and it's been bugging me ever since. first of all, i've been shopping at avalon for years because i grew up in the area. it's definitely gotten worse over the years, their selection as of late seems to be mostly junk. but the bad experience is that i went to try on some jeans in one of their dressing rooms and luckily i took a minute on my phone before trying them on because i noticed a pair of feet come over and stand on the other side of the curtain from me. then the dressing room curtain gets ripped open and i spin around to only catch a glimpse of the persons face before they close it and speed away. super creepy. but the worst part is that i'm pretty sure it was an employee... i'm not a very confrontational person so i didn't go after them but i felt sooo uncomfortable and violated. i've been thinking this over and i'm just super confused why someone would do that. did they think i was trying to steal?? literally everything in the store has an anti-theft tag so that's weird. anyways 0/10 i can't recommend this place at all. :( read more

I'm a longtime Buffalo Exchange shopper, and wandering into Avalon, I have to say this store wins, hands down. I go to Buffalo for cheap clothes, because they don't mark up quality pieces. But to get to those treasures I dig through heaps of Forever 21, H&M, and similar cheap pieces at almost the same price in the original store. Avalon was almost all treasures. I got 2 cashmere tops, a heavy bomber jacket, and a wool, fitted nice green sweater for under $80 all together, and I saw a million more quality pieces (and some legit designer fare) for a pittance of their original price. That said, yes, there were definitely some brand new clothes at $100 prices that did not deserve the price or the place. And the accessories/jewelry was all (from my glance) not worth putting out. But the size variety was immense (I wished I was XL for some clothes) - definitely a go to for shoppers that might normally have their sizes ignored. I love when I stumble upon an awesome find at Avalon Exchange! This was my first time visiting the Detroit ave location and its great! We got there later in the day so naturally the clothes weren't exactly where they should have been on the racks but the store is neat and easy to navigate around. I found an Anthropologie high waisted pencil skirt new with tags! $10 retail price $98. That is why I stopped buying clothes at full price- I can buy quality new clothes for less than half the retail price. Keep up the good work Avalon Exchange! This is a must stop if you love vintage clothing. You can find vintage designer stuff like Coach, Gucci and Louis Vuitton purses as well as designer accessories like belts, sunglasses and wallets. We do have a Avalon Exchange location in Pittsburgh but, I rarely find anything good there. I was able to find my daughter a pink leather Coach purse in really good condition for $18 and a matching pair of pink Chuck's in like new condition for also $18. For all the sneaker heads like me out there they even carry Air Max's, Foamposites and Jordans from time to time. Most of the items are priced fairly, but some of the sneaker (Jordan) prices are a bit nuts. The men's section is a bit lacking but Avalon does offer tons of jeans and vintage sports teams jackets. All in all this location is defiantly worth checking out if you are in the area. read more

I've passed by this store many times while in Coventry and was always a bit skeptical to go in because I'm not a huge fan of buying second hand clothing. But one day I decided to venture in, and absolutely fell in love with this place!! The selections are numerous! Brands range from Forever 21 to H&M to Coach to Burberry! They also have a wide range of styles (boho, punk, chic, classy, etc). The store does a great job on keeping their selection very trendy! The price is fair as well! Shirts range from $5-$10, skirts $8-15, dresses $10-20, jeans $10-30 (depending on brand). This has got to be my new favorite place to shop at! I also brought in several bags of old clothes, and they took about half of them! They give you 30% of how much they'll sell it for in cash or 45% of how much they're sell it for in store credit. So if you have any old clothes that you don't wear anymore, this will be a great place to sell it before you donate it :) read more

As someone who's been shopping/selling here occasionally for almost 10 years - here's what's I've noticed: They have no method/rhyme or reason with what they choose to buy. It all depends on the person working there that day's personal taste. I dropped off two bins full of predominately women's clothing (mainly vintage, some designer, madewell, a pair of doc martens, "ethical" brands including everlane, all in excellent condition & appropriate for the current season) - the male employee (who was not friendly at all, by the way) only took a designer t shirt, designer blouse, and a vintage men's basketball jacket... I just find it funny they're so scrupulous with buying, yet when I shop there at least HALF of the women's clothing is poorly made Forever 21 & similar fast fashion brands. Wanting to test a hypothesis - a few days later I came back to sell the remaining clothes they didn't take, suspecting I'd have better luck if a female employee was sorting this time. A girl happened to be working there this time, and what do you know - she took about 90%. That same 90% the previous male employee turned down. Unless you are desperate for quick money and totally fine with being underpaid for your clothes, I would not recommend this place. I highly suggest reselling on poshmark, ebay, depop or grailed - yes it takes a bit of extra time to photograph and list each item, but it's worth it. If the owners even bother to read this review, I'd suggest doing a better job at educating your employees on quality brands and fashion trends, and try to get them to be more consistent and methodical, if you cared about a sustainable + long-term business model. I had slightly better luck in previous years, but this problem has been a long time coming. It's slowly just become a place for men's sneakers, and now also cheap new with tag closeout/made in china accessories like sunglasses. read more

Don't you love it when you accidentally stumble upon a gem? That's exactly what happened to me when I was lucky enough to find Avalon Exchange. Now, this place buys used clothing and such, but it's much better than your average resale shop. You bring in all the designer, label and nifty clothing, shoes and accessories that you don't want anymore--and hello, cash-money in your pocket! They also give you store credit. These folks hand-pick all the items they sell. You'll find designer purses, leather boots, and even some vintage items. I'd prefer to see more vintage pieces, but I know most of that stuff ends up at consignment shops. I didn't leave with anything this time around, but you'd better believe that I'm cleaning out my closet soon and bringing it in to Avalon. As I was walking around, I was even picturing items I had at home that I could bring in. I probably had dollar bill signs in my eyes... Definitely check this place out if you're in the neighborhood (and you have enough change to feed those pesky Coventry Rd meters). It's worth taking some time to browse through the merch, especially with high-end label tops for $3 each. I mean, hell, you'll spend more on a parking ticket from the Cleveland Heights police. read more

When I lived in New York, I consequently lived in Buffalo Exchange and Beacon's Closet. Since returning to the Cleveland area, I've scoured the market for comparable shops to piece my wardrobe together. I've found three go-tos: Closets in Rocky River (good but a tad overpriced and mostly rude service), Apple Core (good but inconsistent at times), and - glory be - Avalon Exchange. Even if I didn't work in Cleveland Heights, it'd be worth the haul from the West side. Also a ***TAD*** overpriced, this place is hardcore my new favorite consignment shop. Not only is the store itself baller, the staff is amazing. The zipper on my own personal denim dress got stuck and two employees tried to help me zip it, eventually pinning it. It was customer service above and beyond, they were so friggin nice. I took my boyfriend and even he found some goodies. I dropped an unreasonable amount of cash-money on my first visit, so visits will have to be occasional, even though (yikes), they're opening a location right here in Lakewood. Me and my wallet are screwed. read more

If you're looking for a thrift shop with a lot of vintage pieces, then this isn't the place for you. That being said, if you're looking to pick up some current fashions on the cheap then you've picked the right place. One thing I really like about Avalon is the lack of clutter. Racks aren't over-packed, they're organized by style, and everything is spaced out so you have room to maneuver. If you have the time to look through the pretty impressive collection of clothing and accessories, then you're more than likely to find some good pieces. I've found a few things and my boyfriend has found some pretty great graphic tees he can rock out on a casual Sunday. I think the biggest draw (at least for me) is that they buy your clothing, given that it's currently fashionable and in good condition. You can also opt for a store credit if you so choose. I love this store and it's products, but the people that work here are just awful. I went to the dollar sale last week and it was absolute madness. Typically I go to the Lakewood store, but because of the sale I decided to go to both. They're a lot more lax at the Lakewood store, so when I saw an empty dressing room I went to use it. Five minutes later a man very aggressively throws open the curtain and literally screams at me, how many items do you have-is it more than ten? I said yea probably and he said, "that's it, you're done. I'm kicking you out." And then proceeded to yell I'm kicking you out until I got out of the dressing room. I'm lucky I was wearing something when he opened the curtain. I'm probably never going to go back to this location because of it. read more

I am a frequent seller at Avalon sine 2015. I've always had a great experience with Ariel and the old team. Yesterday I had a horrible experience that I'd like to share, I went there with 2 big heavy boxes filled of great quality clothes (given that I am 9 months pregnant and moving overseas) and branded items that would fit their assortment. A few minutes later, I get a call from the store's new management saying that my order is ready, I come back surprised by their fast pace. The sales person tells me that they won't take anything, I am surprised again but understand the curation team's unjustified decision. So I OFFER to give away all the clothes for their yearly dollar sale, the manager barely looks at me and says "no you can take it all away" while waving his hand...I was standing there with my big belly and 2 x 20lbs boxes. A woman who saw me struggling taking the heavy boxes out in the rain gently offered to help me to save me time and energy. A bit of consideration for a pregnant woman or a bit of consideration for a kind gesture of generosity wouldn't hurt. read more

First time doing a phone order to buy my fiancée some Prada boots posted on their Instagram, asked and was told by an employee upon pickup ("Mario" according to the receipt) that I had "10 days" to return if they didn't fit. Long story short, they didn't fit, took em back two days later, they looked at me like I was nuts and said no returns, no exceptions, even when I explained what I was told by the employee who took my order. Maybe have your employees know the policy and not lie to customers to get their money, Avalon. I'm out $81, but they're out a customer, and hopefully this review puts Mario out of a job. read more

Walked in and was greeted by smiling faces and what a difference that makes. Everyone who works here was so nice and friendly. The young woman who looked through what I had brought in was professional and went through everything while I waited which hardly seemed to take any time at all. It is funny that this was once where Irv's Deli was. Honestly I think this is a much better use of the space. Don't waste your time with any other consignment shop. Lady at the front was super rude. Didn't really acknowledge me or make eye contact. Didn't want to buy my dress or tshirt so she asked her manager and said it was "not our style", though I just bought the dress over the weekend for a wedding and it was super nice. After her manager said she didn't want it, the girl pushed my clothes towards me and turned around as if I wasn't there. Completely awkward and unprofessional. I understand if you don't want to buy & resell my clothes, but at least say something. This place used to satisfy my need for consignment/thrift/unique shopping, but lately things have been going downhill. I can't ever seem to find anything among the gross stuff that they're taking in. If it isn't overstock or designer (which I'm not looking to buy when I'm here), it's shabby and worn out. The sweater selection this winter was dull and shrunken for the most part (if it wasn't a perfect designer cashmere) and the dresses are all consistently overpriced for something that's obviously been washed a million times and that I can find on the sale rack at Target right now (if it isn't a mu-mu from 1981 and covered in what looks to be coffee stains with holes in the pits). It seems the only way to buy anything here is designer, overstock or if you're a hipster looking to spend too much money on a deconstructed t-shirt from the '90 country music scene. I keep coming here, hoping to find some treasures, but it's rare if I do anymore. I'm becoming overly disappointed in the way they're handling business (accepting some pretty unappealing merchandise and overpricing) and will probably take my thrifting and consignment fever elsewhere the next time it strikes. read more

There is no better place to be than Avalon Exchange's new location on Coventry Road in Cleveland Heights. Fashionistas can trade their old label and designer clothes to the store for money at a much better rate than Plato's Closet (up to 45% in store credit or 30% in cash). Clothes need to be clean and good shape. Avalon Exchange is still building an inventory at its CH location, but the real draw is the winter coats. I found several beautiful and gently worn (and in style) winter coats- FOR UNDER $20! And hipsters get there quick because we found a few Members Only jackets in the men's section. Definitely going to keep my eye on Avalon as it builds clientele and inventory. read more
