Great stay at the Avalon for my bday weekend. They are located right next door to sister-hotel with a nice bar and restaraunt. They are also conveniently located near stop 3 of the free downtown looper, which goes around to the dali and near the pier.. they also offer complimentary transportation within 10 miles on Fri and Sat 2-10. Room was small but clean. We did not have any mini fridge and lights are a bit low. They do a complimentary happy hour daily around 5 and staff were all very kind.

The hotel surpassed all my expectations! Ethan,Larissa and entire staff were welcoming and accommodating right from the moment we checked in. The room was clean and pool/bar fantastic. The breakfast / dinner spread was also quite tasty. 5 Star

Very cool place for a quick stay! It's a very old building so it's not in perfect shape but it was nice! Loved the front porch to hang out. Free parking but sometimes it's packed. Nice that it's next door to the Hollander which is a sister hotel so you can use their porch, pool etc. It was raining the we went so we didn't get to use the pool but the pool bar looked awesome. The Avalon is very conveniently located to the pier and Beach Dr. etc. We walked almost everywhere. Voodoo Brewing is a block away. Free coffee and cookies in the lobby in the am. There was a happy hour with free wine that we didn't get a chance to enjoy. Lobby is super cute and staff was friendly. Would stay here again for sure!

You can't beat the location nor the price! We had the best stay here. It's very cute with a cozy, old-school vibe. The giant porch was such a fantastic place to sit back and enjoy the free wine poured nightly. We were an easy walk from all the spots we wanted to see - the Dali Museum, downtown St. Pete, and the pier. We also really enjoyed the pool and the pool bar at the sister hotel next door. And the restaurant next door (The Tap Room) was perfect (we ate there 3 or 4 times.) We stayed in a studio suite and found the room to be very clean and comfortable. It was also a fairly good size. The only warning I'd issue to future guests is that the bathrooms are very, very small. I'm 5-7 and you can see in the pic how close my knees were to the wall when using the toilet. I suppose you could sit sideways...and the rest of the hotel is so comfortable and charming and well-priced compared to other locations, I thought the small bathroom was worth it.

We took a weekend visit to St. Pete and stayed at the Avalon Hotel, based on its pricing and ratings. The hotel is a boutique hotel; the building is old and has been renovated. It's got a great retro modern look to it, both inside and out. We arrived at 9 PM, and it was a quick check-in, and we were given a second floor room. The room was small, but it comfortably fit a king-sized bed. The bathroom was very small, but being that it was only two of us, we managed just fine for the weekend in the tight quarters. I really liked that there was complimentary parking and that we could leave our car at the hotel, with about a 15 minute walk to downtown St. Pete and a little further to the Pier. It really saved on time and parking fees. I also liked that there was complimentary ice cold water and water bottles in the lobby, as well as complimentary coffee in the morning. They also offered wine in the evenings, but we never partook. I grabbed a water bottle every time we returned to the hotel, so I could stay hydrated. The Avalon's sister hotel is next door, and they offer a restaurant and coffee shop. Unfortunately, we weren't in town long enough to try either of those out with our other plans, but they looked popular, and had great menus.

What a nice place to stay if you are visiting St. Pete. the staff welcomed warmly and the room was small but very clean and just what you need. It is an older building that has all charm and a good location to spend time being a tourist in St. Pete. I would absolutely stay here again when we visit the area. They offer wine in the afternoon and they have this great outside porch to just relax and enjoy your wine and spend a few moments in peace.

Picking a hotel is always the most daunting part of planning a trip. You want to be in the heart of things, have a comfortable and clean room, and you don't want to over pay. If you go to St. Petersburg I will save you the time of researching a dozen hotels and comparing prices and amenities. I have the perfect place for you, stay at the Avalon. My friend and I wanted to escape for a weekend away that happened to fall on Valentines Day. She was recommended this hotel by a friend and really wanted to stay here. We wanted two separate rooms and she purchased hers first. When I went to pay for my room online there was no longer any rooms at that price. In fact they were charging significantly more. I was getting stressed out trying to find something I could afford and I decided to finally just call the hotel and see if they could help me out. At that point I was willing to sleep in a closet. That is when an angel named John answered the phone. After talking it over with him he was able to find me a room in my price point and he saved my vacation. The Avalon is an older building from 1930 which I love. Its Art Deco design would be right at home in South Beach. It has a huge front porch with couches that you can relax on shielded from the street by bamboo trees. The Avalon has free parking in the back that they share with their sister hotel The Hollander next door. The parking fills up fast so once you leave your car it is better to proceed on foot or use the downtown looper trolley. The lobby of the Avalon is so inviting. As soon as I walked in I felt at home. There is a sectional with fluffy pillows along the glass front window perfect for lounging . Hanging in the lobby is a portrait of 60's supermodel Jean Shrimpton. John was waiting for me at check in and he knew exactly who I was. It was like meeting a friend. I absolutely loved the room he found for me right behind the desk. I didn't have to walk far, it was just perfect. The room was large with a comfy bed that felt like a cloud. The bathroom even had a tub which was wonderful for soaking in after walking around all day. Since the building is older the AC is window units but the temperature was comfortable. I slept like a dream. Before we went out for the night I had a couple of glasses of wine at the Avalon's 5-7 Happy Hour. They also served champagne. In the morning they offer free tea and coffee which was super convenient since my room was only steps from the lobby. John had recommendations for different places to eat and things to do in the area. He even had feee coupons for the famous watermelon bruschetta at The Mill. You are welcome to use the pool next door at the Hollander and they also have a restaurant and coffee shop. At the Avalon you are only blocks from downtown St. Petersburg and you can easily walk to the free downtown looper trolley which will take you pretty much anywhere you would want to go. This hotel has it all, convenience and comfort. It is also the most reasonably priced hotel in downtown St. Pete. I loved my stay and would not hesitate to book here again. If you see John tell him I said hello.

Had an overnight stay at the Avalon this past Friday. Upon arrival you will enter a cute eclectic lobby area. We were greeted by a nice host and check in went smoothly. We stayed in one of the suites. It actually was not much of a suite. The room was quite small but I liked that it had a patio. When we first entered the room it seemed neat and clean. However, upon further inspection it was not as clean as I thought. Also, there was a noticeable smell. At first I wasn't sure what it was, but now that I think of it, it sort of smelled like bug spray. Something was definitely biting me during our stay. Maybe fleas? I had to wash my feet real good before bed because they were black from walking on the dirty floor. The sheets were scratchy and put on inside out. The bed is older and not very comfortable. When they renovated this room it was painted very sloppily. In the bathroom the window has strange peeling paint. There is a wall right in front of the toilet you have to squeeze by to use it. I understand it is a vintage boutique hotel. However, the renovations did not seem to be done by a professional. It's off putting since we paid $232 for the night. The only positives I can say about this hotel is that it is just a 10 minute walk to Central Ave. They also had nice pastries for breakfast. I'd pass on the coffee though. I don't usually like to leave reviews like these but feel people should truly know about the suites. The room in my opinion was definitely not worth what we paid. Don't think we would ever stay at the Avalon again. If you are looking for a nice boutique hotel, I highly recommend the Birchwood.

Located right next door to the Hollander hotel. Same owners, great vibe, excellent staff and both hotels share the same parking lot and pool. The atmosphere is Art Deco, decor is same in rooms. You can't beat the prices with the kind of fun atmosphere you get here. The Avalon does have there own happy hour that's only there thing. So don't expect it if you stay in the Hollander. We did get complimentary champagne to help start the celebration of my birthday. I've come to St Petersburg three times in the last two years. This is always my go to hotel. The amazing memories I won't ever forget. We do have friends that live downtown, and they still come here to hangout. There is a large bar with a full menu that's offered. The bar food is pretty good and the drinks even better. It's such a nice pool area, that you end up hanging out there most of the day. Over all, I've had such amazing experience every time and highly recommend. Almost forgot to add- I took off a star because the carpet is gross. Our room wasn't vacuumed well or even at all. I dropped my earring that went under the bed and what was under there, grossed me out even more. The Hollander doesn't have carpet and I would rather stay there because of it. I did ask the front desk if someone could clean it, but over all the hotel should update the rooms.

Amazing experience here! Front desk staff especially John and Brian were top notch. Comfortable porch with much needed shade, nightly free wine from 5-7. Loved the decor and vintage Art Deco vibe. Perfectly located to downtown and most everything you want to see. Free parking and use of sister hotel The Hollander's pool, bar, coffee and resto next door was a bonus. That hotel was much busier with far less charm more of a party vibe - not our scene- glad we picked the Avalon. Our room was clean, had a/c and a fan and a very comfy bed and pillow. Great value Would happily stay here again!

My husband and I were in St. Pete for 3 nights visiting family and wanted to also see downtown, so I chose the Avalon after hours of searching online(I hate dirty hotels). Check in was great, they told us about the Hollander which is their sister hotel next door where happy hour is, restaurant and pool. The room was nice, most importantly it was very clean, housekeeping was also generous with bringing towels as we didn't want them to clean the room. There was a total electric 4 burner stove, oven, small fridge, small table for two, cleans dishes and more than enough closet space. The building is old so each room has a window AC unit which keeps the room very cool, the bed was very comfortable with 4 pillows, counter space in the bathroom was small but not a deal breaker for me because cleanliness trumps every updated amenity in my book which the Avalon was very clean. We were in walking distance of downtown night life, so we walked downtown every night. I loved the quaintness of the Avalon and am looking forward to staying there again in the near future.

We booked a room with two queen beds for two adults and two kids. The room was simple, very clean, and everything looked fresh and well maintained. The furniture seemed new, and it had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. There was a mini fridge, a safe, a TV (which made our kids very happy), a coffee maker with coffee pods and tea bags, a hair dryer, an iron with an ironing board, an extra pillow, and plenty of towels. The bathroom had wall-mounted shampoo, conditioner, and body wash, plus hand soap, body lotion, makeup remover wipes, and soft facial tissues. One thing I really appreciated was the extra security. The room opens with a key card, but once you're inside you can lock it so the key card won't open the door. There is also an additional security latch, which gave us extra peace of mind while traveling with kids. It was very quiet at night, and we all slept well. The location is great--about a 10-minute walk to the pier, and we even had a partial water view from our window. There is also a pool. The only thing I noticed was a couple of spots where the pool's underwater coating had chipped, so it could use a little maintenance. Overall, we had a really nice stay. My biggest concern before arriving was all the comments about rooms smelling damp or musty because, to me, that usually means mold. Getting to the hotel was a little confusing. We missed the valet entrance at first and had to circle back around for an awkward second attempt. Once we arrived, the staff was friendly and check-in went smoothly. I did get a little frustrated waiting for a luggage cart since there was only one person handling it, but we eventually got it. After a long day of traveling, we just wanted to unload everything and get settled. We were on the 15th floor, which is the top floor, and had a nice room with a king bed. The room was spacious, the bathroom was a great size for both of us, and if we looked off to the right, we had a partial water view overlooking the pool. My biggest complaint about the room was that it did, unfortunately, have that damp, musty smell I was worried about. Since we were only staying two nights and planned to spend most of our time out exploring, we decided to deal with it. I also wish more hotels would get rid of carpet altogether--it always seems to hold onto odors. There was a cheerleading competition in town, so the hotel was very busy. Thankfully, the teams were gone most of the day competing, so it wasn't as chaotic as I expected. The bigger issue was the elevators. Only two of the three were operating, and getting downstairs often took forever. It became a running joke between my husband and me trying to guess how many floors we'd stop at before reaching the lobby. As Hilton Diamond members, we receive a $30 daily food and beverage credit, which was nice. However, we were shocked that two cocktails at the bar still came to around $40. The drink prices were incredibly high, and the additional $45 per day for parking definitely added to the frustration. The location is excellent and within walking distance of the waterfront, which was a huge plus. Since we were using Hilton points, it made sense to stay here, but if we're paying out of pocket next time, I think we'd choose the Hollander instead. Overall, the hotel had plenty of positives, but the musty room, slow elevators, and expensive extras kept it from being a great stay.

Since the facial and massages are usually $225.each, this is a pretty good deal. The one major downside to the spa is the valet parking. You get two hours validated for $12, but then it is $12 an hour after that. If you get to the spa early to make sure you're not rushed, plus spending time after eating, this ends up being a not inexpensive valet parking bill. I'm really surprised there isn't a flat rate or that they don't validate more of your parking. Especially given how expensive the treatments are. I have to say I like the hard rock spa a lot more. The main reason is because the facilities here are small and seem a little rundown. The actual spa services are separate from where their steam room and salt room is. So you have to walk in your robe through the hallway to get from one to the other. Also, the salt room and steam room weren't turned on when we got there so we had to wait for both rooms to heat up. It is a bit confusing on how to turn them on, so we were lucky that one of the employees was nearby for us to ask. All the services are fantastic though. So if you're coming just for the service and not for a Spa experience, this place is pretty good. The massage was one of the best I've had in a long time. My masseuse really got into my back, which was fantastic. I thought the facial was well done as well. So if your plan is to come solo, this place isn't bad, but if you're coming with friends and want to experience more than just your services, I wouldn't recommend this place. I was also surprised that you don't get access to the pool with your Spa service, which is pretty standard for other places.

Great ambiance, attentive service, and drinks that are genuinely worth the price. A must-visit whether you're staying at the hotel or just stopping in for a night out.

For my birthday week in St. Petersburg, we stayed at The Birchwood. It was a pricier stay than at…read moreother hotels but I was willing to spend due to a few factors: central location, luxurious bedrooms, and rooftop bar and upscale lobby restaurant. Its central location in the city that is close distance in Uber from the Dali Museum and the Chihuly Collection, walking distance from the Museum of Fine Arts and the St. Pete Pier, and close to a barrage of restaurants, bars, and clubs in the downtown area. The luxurious, corner-end bedroom were quite cozy and comfortable with an elongated hallway that had a dresser and a bougie fridge, a clawfoot tub in the gorgeous bathroom with red-painted and marble-tiled walls along with a standing shower with excellent water pressure and tiled enclosing. The golden-framed mirror that hung over the clawfoot tub was really stylish as well as modern and bourgeoise. The four-post bed with down comforters and bedding was quite nice along with the velvet reading chairs, coffee table desk, extra set of dressers, and wardrobe closet in dark mahogany wood. We had consistent internet connection that was provided complimentary. They had hair dryers, toiletries, and digital programming for the LCD TV, and we could enjoy some chill time with the dark burgundy curtains. The spare robes in the wardrobe closet was nice as is the iron and ironing board. While having access to the rooftop bar that became a nightclub in the evening was nice as we was the Birth and Vine restaurant (which had deliciously rich food), overall, the amenities were not as plentiful as you may think for what you pay nightly. The complimentary breakfast was scarce in selection and variety. It's really there if you need to grab an apple, a packaged muffin, or bland bagel on the go. They do have boxed individual cereals with milk as well as hot coffee and hot water to use for tea (they didn't have much of a variety of tea bags). If you want room service, the hours are limited, and we preferred to walk down the street to hit up some other restaurants. While the express check-out and luggage storage is nice, if you want to self park, it's not that convenient as most of the lots are away from the building. We valeted for the time we were there. While that wasn't as expensive as other places, if you're looking to self park, you're still going to spend a few dollars depending on where. Don't do street parking as you will get tickets. For the money you spend, the Birchwood offers luxurious rooms with direct walking distance to all the museums, restaurants, bars, and other attractions St. Petersburg has to offer. There's plenty to enjoy with the hotel, especially, if you're looking to hit the city during the day and night, while enjoying the glamorous rooms and bathrooms.

I'm not sure if I would recommend this hotel, so here are the good and the bad. The good: Price…read morewas reasonable, and free breakfast was basic, but hot and delicious. The location was excellent for us, as we were in town to attend baseball games at Tropicana Field. It was an easy walk from the hotel to the stadium, and the hotel also has a free shuttle van that will take you wherever you want to go, within a couple of miles radius. We did use the van to go to the game one night, because it was raining, but walked back after the game. There is a small refrigerator in the room. The location was also within walking distance to many bars and restaurants on Central Avenue. (Pedicure at Mibella across the street was great.) There is a free trolley that travels the length of Central Avenue that was convenient. Our room had a comfortable bed. We requested firmer pillows from the front desk, and they were brought to us quickly. EVERY staff member we encountered was above and beyond friendly and helpful. Especially Owen at the Valet desk. We did not use the Valet services, but he greeted us and gave recommendations every time we saw him. The bad: There are no drawers and no closet in the room, so we lived out of our suitcase. There wasn't really a good place to open our suitcase, except for the bed, then we had to zip it up and place it on the "bench" area at the foot of the bed. We only had one suitcase, so it worked out well, but if you have multiple bags, it would be difficult. There was a place to hang a few things. There was one desk chair in the room, but no other place to sit, other than the bed. One elevator was broken during our entire stay, so there was only one usable elevator. I had the impression from staff that it has been broken for a while. The room was mostly clean, but see the photos I attached. They were taken in the bathroom. Also, I walked around the room barefooted the first evening, and the floor was pretty dirty in places. Last thing....beware of the bed frame. The frame is made of solid wood, and sticks out from the mattress on both corners. My husband ran into the corner our first night, and sustained a pretty good gash on his shin.
