The Inn was built in 1930 so the rooms are small so be prepared for that. In the bathroom you have to close the door to sit on toilette bec the door opens in front of it! I must say though the remodel of the tub/shower area is the nicest I've ever seen; real marble expertly installed! The shower has water pressure but it isvery touchy getting the right temperature. They have a nice wine/champagne happy hour in evening then coffee and cookies in morning. The two places on each of this inn are a part of this inn too so you can use the pool and the restaurant is very good there too. The other building are efficiency apt to "snow birds". read more

Great stay at the Avalon for my bday weekend. They are located right next door to sister-hotel with a nice bar and restaraunt. They are also conveniently located near stop 3 of the free downtown looper, which goes around to the dali and near the pier.. they also offer complimentary transportation within 10 miles on Fri and Sat 2-10. Room was small but clean. We did not have any mini fridge and lights are a bit low. They do a complimentary happy hour daily around 5 and staff were all very kind. read more

You can't beat the location nor the price! We had the best stay here. It's very cute with a cozy, old-school vibe. The giant porch was such a fantastic place to sit back and enjoy the free wine poured nightly. We were an easy walk from all the spots we wanted to see - the Dali Museum, downtown St. Pete, and the pier. We also really enjoyed the pool and the pool bar at the sister hotel next door. And the restaurant next door (The Tap Room) was perfect (we ate there 3 or 4 times.) We stayed in a studio suite and found the room to be very clean and comfortable. It was also a fairly good size. The only warning I'd issue to future guests is that the bathrooms are very, very small. I'm 5-7 and you can see in the pic how close my knees were to the wall when using the toilet. I suppose you could sit sideways...and the rest of the hotel is so comfortable and charming and well-priced compared to other locations, I thought the small bathroom was worth it. read more

Very cool place for a quick stay! It's a very old building so it's not in perfect shape but it was nice! Loved the front porch to hang out. Free parking but sometimes it's packed. Nice that it's next door to the Hollander which is a sister hotel so you can use their porch, pool etc. It was raining the we went so we didn't get to use the pool but the pool bar looked awesome. The Avalon is very conveniently located to the pier and Beach Dr. etc. We walked almost everywhere. Voodoo Brewing is a block away. Free coffee and cookies in the lobby in the am. There was a happy hour with free wine that we didn't get a chance to enjoy. Lobby is super cute and staff was friendly. Would stay here again for sure! read more

We took a weekend visit to St. Pete and stayed at the Avalon Hotel, based on its pricing and ratings. The hotel is a boutique hotel; the building is old and has been renovated. It's got a great retro modern look to it, both inside and out. We arrived at 9 PM, and it was a quick check-in, and we were given a second floor room. The room was small, but it comfortably fit a king-sized bed. The bathroom was very small, but being that it was only two of us, we managed just fine for the weekend in the tight quarters. I really liked that there was complimentary parking and that we could leave our car at the hotel, with about a 15 minute walk to downtown St. Pete and a little further to the Pier. It really saved on time and parking fees. I also liked that there was complimentary ice cold water and water bottles in the lobby, as well as complimentary coffee in the morning. They also offered wine in the evenings, but we never partook. I grabbed a water bottle every time we returned to the hotel, so I could stay hydrated. The Avalon's sister hotel is next door, and they offer a restaurant and coffee shop. Unfortunately, we weren't in town long enough to try either of those out with our other plans, but they looked popular, and had great menus. read more

I really wanted to love my experience at the Avalon, but due to a few barriers, I ended up needing to leave early and go to a different hotel. To backtrack, I was originally at their sister hotel next door, but moved to the Avalon due to wanting more comfortable accommodations for my extended stay/vacation. The Avalon is right next door to the sister hotel and you can enjoy the perks of both. A nice restaurant, coffee shop, bar, & pool + free parking. It also is a 10-15 min walk to a lot in downtown St. Pete I also wanted to make it clear that every staff and employee was an absolute joy, so kind, attentive and knew people by name. It made the experience more personalized. But, when I moved over to the Avalon for part of my stay, I started feeling unwell every time I was in my hotel room. The room felt damp, with an earthy moisture like smell. The rooms had wall and window Air conditioners, indicating the filter needing changing in one. Additionally the bathroom had no exhaust fan and a locked window, so nowhere for the hot shower air to escape. Also, the ceiling in the bathroom was also damaged from the steam/water, with a puckering like appearance. The room continued to remain an earthy must smell with or without Air conditioning use. I continued to feel ill. I ended up experiencing an allergic like response on night 3 of my stay in the room, due to what I felt was suspected mold exposure. When I spoke to my doctors virtually due to my feeling of my health at risk on vacation, they suspected I was exposed to mold as well and suggested to leave the hotel room as soon as possible. Thankfully when I mentioned my concerns to management, management was quick and efficient, and refunded the remaining nights stay + 1 additional night refund and I left as quick as I could and found accommodations for the rest of my trip elsewhere. If you are considering this hotel, for a night or so, and do not have environment allergies, including allergies to mold- you may still have a good time -for the vibe of pool, and location. I don't typically write negative reviews, but since this stay affected my health, I felt it was important to share. 2 stars for customer service, location to attractions/pier, and shared amenities for both hotels. read more

Picking a hotel is always the most daunting part of planning a trip. You want to be in the heart of things, have a comfortable and clean room, and you don't want to over pay. If you go to St. Petersburg I will save you the time of researching a dozen hotels and comparing prices and amenities. I have the perfect place for you, stay at the Avalon. My friend and I wanted to escape for a weekend away that happened to fall on Valentines Day. She was recommended this hotel by a friend and really wanted to stay here. We wanted two separate rooms and she purchased hers first. When I went to pay for my room online there was no longer any rooms at that price. In fact they were charging significantly more. I was getting stressed out trying to find something I could afford and I decided to finally just call the hotel and see if they could help me out. At that point I was willing to sleep in a closet. That is when an angel named John answered the phone. After talking it over with him he was able to find me a room in my price point and he saved my vacation. The Avalon is an older building from 1930 which I love. Its Art Deco design would be right at home in South Beach. It has a huge front porch with couches that you can relax on shielded from the street by bamboo trees. The Avalon has free parking in the back that they share with their sister hotel The Hollander next door. The parking fills up fast so once you leave your car it is better to proceed on foot or use the downtown looper trolley. The lobby of the Avalon is so inviting. As soon as I walked in I felt at home. There is a sectional with fluffy pillows along the glass front window perfect for lounging . Hanging in the lobby is a portrait of 60's supermodel Jean Shrimpton. John was waiting for me at check in and he knew exactly who I was. It was like meeting a friend. I absolutely loved the room he found for me right behind the desk. I didn't have to walk far, it was just perfect. The room was large with a comfy bed that felt like a cloud. The bathroom even had a tub which was wonderful for soaking in after walking around all day. Since the building is older the AC is window units but the temperature was comfortable. I slept like a dream. Before we went out for the night I had a couple of glasses of wine at the Avalon's 5-7 Happy Hour. They also served champagne. In the morning they offer free tea and coffee which was super convenient since my room was only steps from the lobby. John had recommendations for different places to eat and things to do in the area. He even had feee coupons for the famous watermelon bruschetta at The Mill. You are welcome to use the pool next door at the Hollander and they also have a restaurant and coffee shop. At the Avalon you are only blocks from downtown St. Petersburg and you can easily walk to the free downtown looper trolley which will take you pretty much anywhere you would want to go. This hotel has it all, convenience and comfort. It is also the most reasonably priced hotel in downtown St. Pete. I loved my stay and would not hesitate to book here again. Had an overnight stay at the Avalon this past Friday. Upon arrival you will enter a cute eclectic lobby area. We were greeted by a nice host and check in went smoothly. We stayed in one of the suites. It actually was not much of a suite. The room was quite small but I liked that it had a patio. When we first entered the room it seemed neat and clean. However, upon further inspection it was not as clean as I thought. Also, there was a noticeable smell. At first I wasn't sure what it was, but now that I think of it, it sort of smelled like bug spray. Something was definitely biting me during our stay. Maybe fleas? I had to wash my feet real good before bed because they were black from walking on the dirty floor. The sheets were scratchy and put on inside out. The bed is older and not very comfortable. When they renovated this room it was painted very sloppily. In the bathroom the window has strange peeling paint. There is a wall right in front of the toilet you have to squeeze by to use it. I understand it is a vintage boutique hotel. However, the renovations did not seem to be done by a professional. It's off putting since we paid $232 for the night. The only positives I can say about this hotel is that it is just a 10 minute walk to Central Ave. They also had nice pastries for breakfast. I'd pass on the coffee though. I don't usually like to leave reviews like these but feel people should truly know about the suites. The room in my opinion was definitely not worth what we paid. Don't think we would ever stay at the Avalon again. If you are looking for a nice boutique hotel, I highly recommend the Birchwood. read more

The location of this place is perfect if you want to wander around St Pete. There is parking available, although not enough to accommodate both hotels that share the space. The lobby and outside sitting area are very nice, and the front desk people are extremely pleasant. My problem is with the noise. Maybe because we had a room at the top of the steps, or maybe because the building is old and everything creaks, echoes, etc, or maybe it's because people are inconsiderate and talk loudly in the halls and slam doors when it isn't necessary. It could be all those things or just the outside traffic which we could hear clearly, but I got the worst night sleep. The room is nice and the bed was comfortable, but the noise ruined it all. read more

Located right next door to the Hollander hotel. Same owners, great vibe, excellent staff and both hotels share the same parking lot and pool. The atmosphere is Art Deco, decor is same in rooms. You can't beat the prices with the kind of fun atmosphere you get here. The Avalon does have there own happy hour that's only there thing. So don't expect it if you stay in the Hollander. We did get complimentary champagne to help start the celebration of my birthday. I've come to St Petersburg three times in the last two years. This is always my go to hotel. The amazing memories I won't ever forget. We do have friends that live downtown, and they still come here to hangout. There is a large bar with a full menu that's offered. The bar food is pretty good and the drinks even better. It's such a nice pool area, that you end up hanging out there most of the day. Over all, I've had such amazing experience every time and highly recommend. Almost forgot to add- I took off a star because the carpet is gross. Our room wasn't vacuumed well or even at all. I dropped my earring that went under the bed and what was under there, grossed me out even more. The Hollander doesn't have carpet and I would rather stay there because of it. I did ask the front desk if someone could clean it, but over all the hotel should update the rooms. read more

This place is in need of a lot of work. Room was very dark, dim lighting, furniture was in need of repair. Blinds had clumps of dust that fell when opened. Cabinet in bathroom was water damaged and peeling. The bathroom smelled like urine even though they did a second cleaning for us. Everything smelled like wet, soggy laundry. Parking for guests will most likely result in parking your car in the dirt/off road. On a positive note-the wall a/c unit did its job keeping the room cool, and there was a ceiling fan. My husband and I were in St. Pete for 3 nights visiting family and wanted to also see downtown, so I chose the Avalon after hours of searching online(I hate dirty hotels). Check in was great, they told us about the Hollander which is their sister hotel next door where happy hour is, restaurant and pool. The room was nice, most importantly it was very clean, housekeeping was also generous with bringing towels as we didn't want them to clean the room. There was a total electric 4 burner stove, oven, small fridge, small table for two, cleans dishes and more than enough closet space. The building is old so each room has a window AC unit which keeps the room very cool, the bed was very comfortable with 4 pillows, counter space in the bathroom was small but not a deal breaker for me because cleanliness trumps every updated amenity in my book which the Avalon was very clean. We were in walking distance of downtown night life, so we walked downtown every night. I loved the quaintness of the Avalon and am looking forward to staying there again in the near future. read more

When we first got in to the hotel, it had been a very long trip with delays in flights weather, etc. Lucky for us we had a beautiful room free parking and plenty of places to eat and have drinks. The gentleman working when we checked in his name was Jeff, he literally was very empathetic to how tired we were and had answers for every question. We had we really enjoyed the champagne and wine in the evenings and anything that we had questions about and anything that we needed. He seem to have the answer or the cure. I look forward to coming back in to The Avalon next time I'm in St Pete working and hope that Jeff still is working there! The second we walked up the steps, we knew we were in for a treat. This hotel (Inn??) is eclectic, zany and geared toward fun! I have my sister/brother in law with us, I booked the hotel and didn't give them the particulars. I wanted them to be surprised when we walked in. I had a business in Tampa years ago, I wanted to relive the St. Petersburg beach area with them. We go to the front desk to check in and are greeted by a friendly counterperson. I'm told the pool is next door, there is fresh coffee and home made biscotti in the morning. Enjoy your stay. We're given room keys and take the elevator to our room. If you're looking for a door man with perfumed air, this is not the place for you. It's whimsical and comfy. They want you to sit on the porch and unwind. Once inside our room, it's cool as hell! A big comfy bed and the furniture is WWII style made from, what looks like airplane wings. Very very hip. The bathroom is just a little off with limited shelf space for your toiletries. Besides that one little issue, it wont deter me from loving this place. I meet my in laws outside on the porch with comfy couches. We're ready for some beach time as well as having a nice dinner in St Pete. When we come back we're ready for a night swim. My brother in law & I grab our suits and jump in the welcoming pool. After swimming I told my brother in law I'm usually up at 5am. I'll be having coffee and freshly made biscotti in the lobby if you want to join me for coffee in the morning. The lobby is a nice place to relax. I have my iPad and I'm reading a book. They brought out coffee and biscotti, at this point I think I want to live in the hotel. (Inn??) We pack our bags and head towards Orlando for a night at Disney before flying back to NY. Avalon Inn, I thank you for your hospitality during our stay. read more

We spent one night here in a suite for a staycation for our anniversary. Everything was spotlessly clean, the hotel staff was extremely helpful and professional, and the location can't be beat. We enjoyed having the convenience of the Hollander right next-door for beverages and food. This vintage hotel in downtown St. Pete is a great place to stay. I chose this hotel because it was close to Janus Live. I was going to a show there and wanted to be able to have some drinks and not worry about driving home. When you arrive, you will see a large, beautiful front porch. This is a great place to have the complimentary happy hour drink or morning coffee. Inside the funky lobby, I was greeted by a friendly desk clerk. All the staff I interacted with were very friendly. My room was just up one flight and close to the stairwell so I took the stairs but there is an elevator. The rooms are very retro looking and clean. I loved the steamer trunk dressers! I also had a good sized tv in my room, which is nice for when you are getting ready to go out or in the morning. Mine also had a ceiling fan, which is great because we have one in our bedroom at home. A great thing about staying here is that it is associated with the hotel next door, the Hollander, so you can use all the amenities. They have a really great pool and pool bar. My husband and I ate at the pool bar before and I want to come back and stay another time to spend some time at the pool. In addition to the pool, there is a shuttle service that will take you anywhere in the downtown area, an inside bar and restaurant, and a bakery. There is also off street parking. Parking is tight, but if you stay on the weekends you can also park across the street at the dentist's office. Also, there is a Sunday brunch but I didn't stay for it because I had things to do. My room was facing the street, but i didn't hear much street noise at night. In all, I would say this is a great place to stay and I am looking forward to coming back! read more

Avalon is a Boutique hotel, so it is definitely different than a more traditional chain hotel. It's very unique - our room had old "luggage trunks" for the dresser and nightstand, a fairly small bathroom, and a window AC. The lobby decor was rather funky, which was fun. The staff was cordial, but they were very busy. We really appreciated the free drinks and snacks from 5-7pm. We got to use all the amenities at their sister hotel right next door (The Hollander), and we had free overnight parking. And we're so glad we went on a Tuesday night, as the best part of our entire trip was the Magic Man in the Hollander lounge from 7-9pm. He was AMAZING!!! It was unseasonably cold, unfortunately, so we couldn't use the pool, but it looks awesome. The free shuttle is a nice benefit (although have some singles for tipping). We ate breakfast at the Tap Room in the Hollander. Our waitress was so friendly and the food was very tasty. We would definitely consider staying here again on another visit to St. Pete's, even though it's not right on the main strip. Full of character! read more

The pool we were able to use at the sister hotel was beautiful with an amazing pool bar that was open early in the morning, and the restaurant was also fantastic! Spent this past weekend at the Avalon Hotel in Suite 205 for my friends wedding weekend. (Friday 12/27/19-Sunday 12/29/19) The worker behind the check-in desk was very friendly, welcoming and helpful! The Avalon does free Champaign and snacks 5pm-7pm, which was a fun way to check into the hotel. The suite rooms (next door the the Avalon) are dog friendly! My room was amazing! It was clean, good vibe and had a super comfy bed!!! The shower/water pressure was amazing too! It was a good size room too! Their sister hotel (right next door across the parking lot) the Hollander has a Tap House, Pool and restaurant. We stayed for their breakfast buffet on Sunday and it was delicious! Free Parking (with a parking pass for your car dash) Free shuttle service (driver works off tips) to the surrounding area until 11pm. It was a wonderful weekend at the Avalon! So my friend and I took a galentine's overnight to St Petersburg and we decided to stay here. John, the night manager was exceptional and very friendly. He went above and beyond to make our stay here great. The hotel is in a great location near all of the restaurants and stores downtown. The lobby is really cute and they also have a beautiful front porch. You should know that the rooms do not have central air but are very comfortable. My room was very clean and comfortable. We had the option of using amenities from the sister hotel next door (the Hollander). Whenever we had a question or needed something, everyone was helpful and I would definitely stay here again when I visit. The champagne and wine at 5-7 was a lovely touch. Okay so I really love everything about this boutique hotel except for one thing. I will say I absolutely love the decor of the place. I especially love the front desk as they are super friendly and accommodating. The even have a shuttle that will drop you off where you need to go. The only thing I had a bit of issue with is the size of the room. It's a bit outdated and tiny. I didn't mind too much as I was by myself and I only stayed one night.
