This is an abysmal establishment, do not heed the reviews and be swayed by the decor and walk-in availability. I am in utter disbelief as to how "nail technicians" do not paint the sides of your nails yet paint the entire cuticle. This will inadvertently cause separation between the cuticle and nail and the gel polish will peel right off--absolutely pointless to even get gel polish. When I brought up the lack of polish on the sides of my nails, the "technician" hastily grabbed my hand and began filing the sides and bottom of my nails down; now my nails are vastly shorter than the anticipated length. This was definitely not what I requested and there was clearly a language barrier. The client alongside of me understood quite transparently what I meant. The "technician" also applied globs of polish on my finger nails, thus giving me very thick uneven nails. During my visit, a technician laughed and joked about the lack of a tip from a credit card receipt from a previous customer-- I am not surprised and wish I would have trusted my instinct to avoid this subpar establishment. Avoid this place like the plague so that you are not burdened by a language barrier, left with fully painted cuticles, exposed unpolished fingernails, and thick, uneven globs of polish. read more

The only thing that irritates me is when I call to make an appointment... I specifically ask for the liquid gel nails... and they book me in. Went here because my roommate recommended them. Wasn't that impressed. The first time I went I got a powder dip and pedicure. It started chipping 2-3 days after. I went back about two weeks ago. I had a fill on a fake toenail in which it looked HORRIBLE. The tech did not know how to do acrylic on toes and I even had to tell her my nail was uneven. On my fingers the tech did not file my nails correctly and they are uneven and the powder is cracking. Horrific experience. Was barely greeted. They don't have any colors and will not let you know until it's too late. Staff stay on the phone and mobile devices playing games. My toes and hands are two completely different colors ! And they should have told me they ran out of the color I wanted initially so that I could pick another . But wouldn't help. Getting my pedicure here as I write and am very pleased. The atmosphere is relaxing and my technician is friendly and sweet. This isn't the kind of place where they talk about you in front of you, they are actually focused on their clients. I'm pleased and can't wait to be back in a few weeks for a polish change and mani pedi combo next time. The massage seats in the pedi section are nice and the decor is nice and relaxing to be here. This is actually a review of Avalon Too, their new location two doors down. I have been a long time customer of Avalon Nails and have always loved getting services there. It is always clean and the technicians friendly. On 5/13/2015 I needed a manicure for a wedding I will be attending this weekend. When I saw Avalon Too I decided to check it out and see if the new location was as nice as the original. Avalon Too is so much nicer! They have a nail bar, hot tea, all the services of the original Avalon, and a bonus is its super quiet and relaxing since most people don't know about it yet. Tommy greeted me as soon as I walked in and was able to guide me to the manicure that would best suit my needs. We decided on a gel manicure. He explained that it would be dry immediately and last two weeks. He also helped me pick a color to match one I had seen in a photo. Tommy was meticulous and made sure every detail was perfect. The service finished with a massage and hot towel. I will definitely be back and will definitely be requesting Tommy in the future. read more

I happened upon this nail salon via Yelp since I badly needed my nails done. I opted for the SNS dipping powder which I had never had done before. The young man, Eddie, at the front desk was very courteous and genuinely nice. I appreciated that. I didn't have an appointment but I was seen by Sophia right away. It started off fine but ended very badly. She cut my finger with the file causing it to bleed, left several imperfections in the nails and got the color stuck to my skin on several fingers. I called her back three times to fix things. She came back each time and graciously fixed it. She informed me afterwards that the powder can get stuck to your skin if your nails are short. I told her that she should have said that at the onset. I was disappointed in her workmanship and carelessness while doing my nails. She was checking her phone and laughing and talking loudly with other nail technicians for a large majority of my service. I was really impressed by this place. After the last place I used took a horrible turn for the worst, I was really crossing my finger on this one. I was not disappointed. I went in the late afternoon on a Friday. They weren't packed, but every tech had a client. I was set up in a pedi chair and my feet soaked for about five minutes. It was nice, gave me a chance to get settled in and the massage chair going. The decor was very nice, clean and fresh. They used a brand new package of tools on me and offered a drink while I was there. I opted to get the Avalon Signature Pedicure, which is basically the works. I'm a go big or go home type when it comes to my getting pampered days. The Signature included a jelly soak, aromatherapy massage (I chose the milk & honey, which was amazing), a sugar scrub, hot lava massage, paraffin wax, callous removal and hot towels. It was about 75 minutes long and cost $75. So a dollar a minute. A little pricier than other places, but you get way more for your money and the service was great. I loved my attendant, Amy. She was fantastic. I'm not particularly talkative and prefer to relax. She was friendly, but didn't force the awkward small talk. Every employee I encountered was friendly and personable. Tommy had all of us cracking up and kept the atmosphere inviting . I will definitely be returning to Avalon Too and to Amy. read more

I'm not sure I want the answer to this but why are there so many fruit flies around? This was the third (and last time) I was there. I only went back because I received a gift certificate but I think next time I will just throw it away. Went with a friend and we both received horrible service. My toenails were cut unevenly. There is a noticeable size difference between my nails and on my right foot, I have a nail that was cut on a slant and was cut so short that the skin around it was red and tender. Then one of the nails wasn't cut all the way. My friend got the worst of it though. Her tech started 10 mins after mine started yet we finished at the exact same time. The tech barely looked at what she was doing and was focused primarily of what was happening in the parking lot (which was nothing.) My friend did not receive her foot/leg scrub, did not receive toe separators, and the polish was sloppily applied. I wish I took a picture of the tech staring off to the side instead of watching what she was doing. On top of all that, the tech LEFT A PIECE OF UNCUT NAIL HANGING FROM HER TOE!! This all happened on a Wednesday afternoon. It was not busy at all. There wasn't anyone waiting when we got in nor did anyone come in while we were seated. There was no excuse why my friend's service was rushed. We did express our disappointment at the end of the service. No apologies were given just that they were "trying to look for a 20% off coupon for next time." I was surprised to notice the shock on the girl's face when I declined the coupon saying that we won't be back. I'm a pretty easy-going person but this was absolutely unacceptable. read more

It's been 4 years since my first review, and this is still my to-go nail spa! I now get the SNS powder-dip instead of a gel manicure. My nails remain strong and do not break easily, plus I do not need a break between manis. The lifespan of an SNS manicure is typically 3 weeks before the color starts to very slowly come off at the base of the nails, which is GREAT wear all things considered! All the established staff are well known in our local community. You will get a quality service regardless of the technician you choose, otherwise they will happily fix it for you. The ambiance is nice and the people are very friendly. I got a full set and the nails were bulky and there was acrylic along my cuticle. Also, the base of the nail, near the cuticle, was uneven and chipped away a couple of days later. Two weeks later two nails came off and another is on its way off. 1. Wait times are extensive. We went on a Friday afternoon and were told the wait was 15 min. 40 minutes later, only one of us was seated in a pedi chair and was left waiting in water for another 20 minutes. 2. The tech asked me if I was mixed because I appear to have some Asian in me . Where do they do that at!? 3. Same tech also let me know that they had been busy all day and none of them have eaten yet. Umm ok, so maybe the employees should let management know so more help can be hired. 4. The tech used the pumice so hard on my feet and toes that she rubbed skin off the side of my big toe. I have frequented this location and have noticed a decline in customer service and quality. These are the issues I have observed with Avalon during my most recent (last) visit. 1). You may or may not by greeted upon arrival 2). Nail techs do not wash their hands or perform basic hygiene between clients 3). Based on prejudices by various nail techs, you may be asked to pay for services prior to completion 4). During services, your nail tech will talk about you to their colleagues 5). During services, your nail tech may "handle" you as though you're an animal versus a human being. ROUGH! These examples have been my personal experiences. read more

This is a great place they have great pedicures and they really take their time. I got my spa pedicure and a new acrylic set which took me three hours in the salon. I do wish that I could have had two people working on me at the same time so that I could only spend an hour and a half in there and not three hours. I am very picky with my nails so I had to guide her on the shape. I wish that nail artist would recognize small details like making sure the shape of the nails are the same on each nail and not have one too thin and one thick etc. . Tried Avalon today for the first time. I had to wait about 15 minutes or so before I got a pedicure chair. I sat with my feet in water for about 15 minutes and then I was told I had to move to another chair. Apparently the group of 3 coming in were more important than me? Nobody apologized for the inconvenience or the fact that I had to walk over with dripping toes. My new chair had cold water. I saw people around me being offered water but I wasn't given any. I walked into this place without an appointment last Saturday for a manicure and pedicure. I walked in based on the yelp reviews. This was my first visit and it will be my last. The male receptionist was very friendly, that was really the only good thing about this place. The pedicure chairs are old, uncomfortable, broken, and placed too close together. You only get one of the tray out to put your purse or water or book on. The other tray could not be raised because the chairs were too close together. The products they use are inferior. I got a french manicure and french pedicure and the polish on my nails and toes starting chipping the following day. The technician assigned to me cut my toe. Also, she kept loudly talking to the technician sitting next to her and wasn't paying attention to what she was doing. This was on of the worst experiences I have had in a while. read more

Finally found a new and awesome nail salon / tech! I had been going to my previous nail salon located in Annapolis, MD for more than 6 years. However, my nail technician left the business and I let a couple other nail techs at that nail salon do my nails, but the quality and technique was not the same. This left me with one choice, find another salon and nail tech. So I set out on my tried and true Yelp adventure in search of a highly rated nail salon and technicians. While combing through Yelp and reading reviews on several nail salons in the Bowie area, I came across Avalon Nail Spa in Crofton, MD. I read all the reviews for this nail salon, as well as, looked at all the pictures posted by reviewers /customers. During my search I realized that I really liked the pictures I was seeing of one nail tech in particular, Kevin. I was instantly drawn to Kevin's technique, designs, as well as how great customers nail shape looked. I immediately made an appointment for Saturday, 4/18/2015 at Avalon Nail Spa with Kevin. I love my nails! Kevin did an amazing job. Better than I expected. To note I have a Pinterest account where I post all my favorite nail art /design. I showed Kevin the nail design I wanted and he executed it perfectly. I am now going on my second week with my nails and they still look awesome! I have no complaints. A quick mentioned about the nail salon and other staff. The actual salon is really nice. The decor is done really well and the equipment is modern and in good condition. Poor selection of nail polish. Caps werent tightened so my friend ended up getting it onbher lap as she was waiting for us to be seen. Oh, that was 55 minutes. I get its on a saturday and we were walk-ins but we called ahead and they told us 15 mins. But thats the same thing they told eveyone that came in as we were sitting waiting. But the best part (sarcasm) was when they took two ladies ahead of us that came in after us. When we pointed that out they tried to rectify it by pulling those ladies out of the pedicure chairs...but only after they stood there andjabbered back and forth for a solid minute. I decided to drive about 30 mins since there were so many raving reviews about this place. I went Saturday morning around 10am. It wasn't too crowded. As soon as I entered the doors, the receptionist seemed very disinterested and in a dry tone said "how can i help you?". Well, I told him I wanted a mani and pedi but would like to see my options. That never happened. I was finally asked to pick a color and I asked for the gel color options. I was finally taken over to the manicure station where the gentlemen started to prepare my nails to remove the gel nails. He rushed me the entire time on picking a color. I had the color set for 1 min tops. Then I went to pick a color for my pedicure again I was rushed and the place was not packed. Finally, I was taken over to the pedicure station but waited for a while, so long the water got cold. I was never offered anything to drink, I mean nothing but other people were getting nice greetings and drinks offered to them left and right. The lady that worked on me was pretty rough with me and was very stern. Also, during my pedicure I noticed there was hair on the pumice stone. ( GROSS) When it was time to check out I paid almost $80 they did not explain why it was so expensive. So I would not go back unless they have a relationship with you. They did not even try to make any conversation with me at all . NEVER AGAIN. I would say there was a lady with tattoos and dreadlocks she was very attentive to her customers, if I could get her name I would go back for her because she was on it.My nails are gorgeous but they hurt from the nicks. read more

Terrible customer service! I scheduled a pedicure for the first appointment in the morning because I didn't have time to wait in case they were running behind. I got there on time. Someone was just opening the door. I was told to, "sit, they would be here in a minute." Ten minutes passed. Others came into work but nobody for a pedicure. I told them I had to leave. They said don't leave, they will be here. That they just called them. Fifteen minutes after they opened (and my appointment time) a couple girls came through the door giggling with some type of beverage that I assumed they just stopped for. I walked out saying that if I show up on time, then the employees should also. To my surprise, I got a call from the employee who opened the place. He/she apologized and told me that I could come back anytime for a free a free pedicure. My name would be at the front desk. Well I am here now. No name at the front desk. I told the manager the entire story. She said that she believed me but since she could not verify my story then she would not honor the free service. In other words, she thinks I am a liar. Made an appointment for last Saturday (9/22/18) for 11 am. When I arrived with my friend they checked us in and asked us to choose our colors. Fifteen minutes they finally escorted us to the pedicure chairs. The quickly began my pedicure and painted in a rushed fashion; because there were a lot of people and they were short staffed. How that was my fault is unknown, I was still paying for the service that I made an appointment for. My friend was patiently waiting until almost an hour had passed, and she asked if they were ever going to start her (11:45). They immediately got defensive and said they had to take the other THREE patrons first because they had appointments at 11:30.When we mentioned WE had appointments at 11 they said oh well, someone will start soon. A gentlemen began her pedicure and it looked as though it was his first time as the polish was layered in clumps and it had to be redone. I also had an SNS manicure done, claiming it should last up to 3 weeks. Not quite. Fast forward to one week later, my toes are chipped to the point they need to be redone. And my SNS manicure is beginning to crack. These were done for engagement photos tomorrow and have to be redone now. Worst $70 I've ever spent. We will not be returning. read more

Worst experience I have ever had getting my nails done. I called the day before to make two appointments to get pedicures and SNS nails. When we got to the salon my friend was taken immediately and I had to wait a half hour to go back to get a pedicure. I waited in the pedicure chair for another 45 minutes until somebody could take me. By then my friend had already finished and was getting her nails done... The whole point of us going together was to get the services at the same time. Someone who clearly did not know how to do a pedicure did mine and it came out awful. Thank God for Lambo who came to the rescue and finished my pedicure and then did my nails wonderfully. This whole experience took almost 3 hours and my friend had to wait over an hour for me to finish. Again...
