My husband and I are new to the area and recently became patients. We have purchased both glasses and sunglasses, which were quite costly. Today I walked in to the office and asked to have a pair of glasses tightened. There were no other patients in the office. One woman was on the phone and the other appeared to be dusting off frames. They told me that I had to pay a fee for this service. I was really astounded and I left. I will not return. The staff nor the Optometrist are friendly nor caring. Huge disappointment. The staff here is incredibly friendly and helpful! I called to verify they accepted my insurance and they not only confirmed it but also gave me a run down of what the services would cost with my insurance. When I arrived they checked me in quickly and reviewed the process. I walked around and they had a good selection of glasses. The doctor was efficient and answered all my questions. I also appreciated that they sent me the paperwork ahead of time so that I could fill it out before I arrived. They estimate my new glasses will take about two weeks and potentially sooner. I definitely would not recommend paid almost $500 for a reading glasses through my insurance 2 months later the arm broke on it and the lens was supposed to be Progressive. They gave me the whole thing reading. I went back to see if they can fix it for me they won't do anything about it, this is the last time I'm going to this place and they were supposed to call me when it's ready 2 to 3 weeks went by nobody called. I had to go in person to check on the glasses. They told me oh yeah you they're ready we sent you a message and I did not get any messages that shows you the kind of service you're getting. read more

My family has been at this facility for a few years now. We were fine with them, though we have been to better eye doctors with more advanced technology when we were active duty living in other areas. I called to set up our annual appointments and we were told they won't see children under age 10. I explained our kids have been there without issue (my children are very well behaved) and my son's pediatrician said he needed an eye doctor appointment but they refused. When I told my pediatrician she laughed and said she has never heard of an eye doctor refusing children. We are now on the search for a different family eye doctor for our entire family. read more

Made an honest mistake and missed my appointment, I called to reschedule and was put on the phone with an older lady that told me that I could not reschedule on a Saturday since I missed my Saturday appointment. (Which makes no sense.) She told me I could reschedule on another day, just not Saturday, I told her that wouldn't work because I work during the week, she said well, sorry, and hung up on me. Terrible, terrible customer service! Fortunately, there's plenty of other doctors in this area, so I was able to get an appointment same day at the eye doctor across the street. I definitely won't be back. I needed a simple update to my prescription as I am near sighted and thought this place looked ok since I was fairly new to the area. The whole experience was just weird.....the girls behind the counter were nice enough, but the Dr made me uncomfortable....just no personality whatsoever. He didn't make small talk or anything, but was more interested in chatting up his employees behind the counter. Ugh...to top it off I think my prescription he wrote was wrong because my new glasses gave me a headache and were blurry. SEE Eyewear double checked it and said that is the prescription he wrote. I've never had this happen before at any other optometrist. They also have a really lame and limited selection of overpriced frames. Definitely will NOT be back. UPDATE: As you can see by the defensive response of this Dr., apparently he has a "great" personality. He can't take any criticism whatsoever from any of his poor reviews. Rather than apologizing and bettering his business he'd rather badmouth his customers. There's an optometrist on every corner, so you decide! Yes they do carry those brands, but maybe one frame option from each brand! Lol. Everyone please shop around- better deals, better doctors out there. read more

Update* I was waiting for the reply from the doctor since it seems to be his routine. As the other responses it was condescending and rude, which only validates my original comment. It also justifies how unprofessional the office is. So glad I won't be returning. He is assuming all policies were followed at the end of the visit which they were not. I was not told I may need to rerun or which day I'd like to come back to follow up. I was asked to let them know how the contacts worked and to get my prescription. He is only speculating as he was not there when this happened. But like I said above, I was looking forward to his condescending, unprofessional response, and I sure got it. I was very disappointed with Avant Garde. I ordered 2 pairs of corrective glasses (after an eye exam by Dr Stewart). It took over 2 weeks for the glasses to arrive. The prescription for one pair (readers) was totally wrong. The second pair of glasses were too big for me and constantly slid off my head (even though they were "fitted" for me). Dr Stewart did a second eye exam and changed the Rx plus I ordered a different pair of frames that wouldn't fall off my head. I had to wait over 3 weeks for the new glasses to be made. Avant Garde did the right thing by not charging for the correct frames/lenses but I find it ridiculous to have to go through this trouble and then to have to wait for such a long time to receive the glasses. I have no intention of purchasing from this company again. Wow- I am following up to the response to my review from this company. It's too bad that they are not willing to listen to constructive criticism. My complaint was with the extraordinarily long wait time to receive glasses. But I guess their response is indicative of the level of customer service provided. Buy at your own risk. read more

I went for an eye exam last week. Nice optometrist. Went back today at 5:15 with my wife to pick out glasses. As soon as we arrived we were told the computers shut down at 5:30 and the alarm goes on at 6:00. It was clear they did not want us there. We left. Went to a nearby eye glass store, picked out two pair of glasses, paid over $700 and left the store by 6:00. Worst customer service ever. Lost me and my family as customers. read more

Ordered contacts. They never called to fit them and then the glasses woman acted like it was my fault that I didn't call to see if they were there. She was extremely rude. Went in with a scratched on my glasses. I was abruptly told it was 2 days past the 1 year guarantee, so they couldn't help me. I accidentally scratched them over the weekend. They are closed on Mondays and Wednesday morning was as soon as I could come in. My husband has been in 4 times to have his glasses adjusted and mine have never fit right or seemed like the prescription is correct. Unfriendly and poor customer service. Unnecessarily overpriced! Bought the cheapest frames I could find and was still charged over $700. Will never pay that much for eyeglasses again. Noticed this weird film on my glasses and realized when I researched it that it's the anti-scratch coating. Interestingly enough, a lot of people are having this problem with the coating but only right after the year mark. Conveniently (for them), it had been just a couple days over a year so the lab can't even touch them. Wouldn't they know that this happens regularly?! Seems like a sham to me. The place to go at four corners near Vistancia! Fantastic selection of eye glasses, high technology, and SUPER friendly and professional staff! Dr. Stewart was engaging, and very conscientious and competent. Since my eyesight has only required cheap readers, I have never had an exam. I received a well-deserved kind lecture as to why at 64 I have never been to an eye doctor and had my eyes examined :-)He explained in layman terms what could be hidden problems that only an exam can reveal. I am a believer now! I received a prescription for reading, and the kind and professional person who provided cost options never tried to upsale - just provided all the alternatives. This is the worst optometrist I have ever been to. The office staff is rude and uninviting and will not let you speak to the MD again after the visit with him. Additionally, I have VSP which this doctor takes however, he insisted on taking my medical insurance coverage as well. He performed additional tests, and said he couldn't correct my right eye. When I got glasses elsewhere on his RX they didn't correct my vision rather cause blurriness and headaches to the point I couldn't drive. I went back after a month and asked to have the MD reevaluate the RX. I was told I had to repay for an entire new visit. I also later found that this doc also billed medicare for my charges that were not approved by me other than what VSP would have covered... Medicare denied the eye visit but paid an additional 500 dollars for tests that I have no knowledge of and were not indicated on my patient information I requested. I have to give a one star. This was our first time going here and decided this place due to the good reviews. The front desk ladies were nice but Dr. Stewart had no bedside manners. I had both my kids seen and not even a smile or friendly talk to my kids to make them feel more comfortable. He had a poker face the hold time and did not even greet us when he entered. I had a few questions at the end of the examination and he cuts me off and says "let's walk out to the front" as if he's don't talking and would like me to empty out the back room. He also gave me wrong information on a few things that I had questions about. I was going to make an appt for myself but now will not be going there and do not recommend this place. read more
