The woman at the desk displayed such genuine concern for my symptoms and didn't waste a SECOND to get me checked in so that I could be seen by a Doctor right away. She was patient and kind as she explained how things worked and the billing. The nurse practitioner and the woman who checked my vitals were also extremely caring and pleasant. I made an apt for 10 and didn't get to a room till 11:15 am. After I sat down they started telling patients it'd be an hour or hour 20 minute wait even mentioned that the clinic in Middleburg seemed to have no wait. Although no one ever likes getting sick at least the people at Avecina make it easier. I always seem to get a nasty cold at least twice a year and I go in, usually get seen quickly and am on my way with a prescription called in right away. I recommend this office often. read more

This summer I was ready to leave on vacation. I had an infection, my normal doctor gave me an antibiotic based off a phone convo. Suddenly I had a rash on my body that was itching and my throat felt swollen. My DR said to go to the ER, so I went to Avecina because the ER would cost me $800 and Avecina said I could go there. The doctor looked at my throat and said it was fine. Didn't look at the "infected" area to confirm if my original prescription is actually helping. Looked at my rash (that I told her I feared was a reaction to the meds also) and said it was a serious bacterial infection that could spread to others. She prescribed me more of the same antibiotics the original doctor gave me and another antibiotic for the rash. Went home, took meds and throat swelled up again. Stopped taking all meds and healed fine. So not only did they MISdiagnose me, but I had to pay out of pocket to be given meds that did not help and/or could have killed me. Staff is friendly, but could have done a lot better. read more

My husband brought our son to Avencina Oakleaf -he called me frantically from there because they took our sons temperature and told him it was 107.4 my husband asked them if they were sure and to please re check so they re-took it and it was 107.8 .At this point, I'm at home absolutely panicking telling him to get in the car and immediately drive over to the children's emergency room next-door, the staff at the urgent care did not think to grab another thermometer to retest in case this one was incorrect OR call 911 because this is a DEADLY high fever. Those should have been the only two options. LUCKILY when we got to the ER they immediately took him back and took his temp. His temperature showed up as 101.7. Thankfully the reading was WRONG because god forbid it really was 107 and they reacted the way they did. Zero concern. Zero critical thinking. We all know what can happen with a 107+ fever..... This caused unnecessary panic for us. I cannot believe how incompetent these medical providers are. SCARY. Also left a message with the reception, they were rude. I Do not recommend anyone to this urgent care. read more

The office would look cleaner and more pleasant if it had a fresh coat of paint. It looks dirty and the colors are dark and bizarre in the exam room. You need to use your cellphone to check in by scanning the QR code, which is fine, however, you won't be able to access the link unless you access their protected network first. I wish someone at the front desk had told me that before I started the check-in process. They also charge a 3% fee if you use a credit card... I don't know of anyone who pays with a check or cash these days, so be prepared with a debit card if you want to avoid the fee. The best part of the visit was seeing the doctor. I visited the Tinseltown center at 9:50am on 1/2/2021 for a covid test. 1. At 9 am a client at the desk stated he was there for the covid test. did not have a mask on. 2. There was no mention to wear a mask to the person, nor was a mask offered by the staff to the person. 3. Realizing that the person was allowed in the facility without a mask I went up to the person behind the desk and said I was going to wait outside as the man with the covid test was sitting behind me mask-less, A. There is a mandatory requirement for masks by the city of Jacksonville where social distancing is not being followed. B. There is no sign outside Avencia or at the reception desk that a mask is required. The staff did not enforce a mask rule even when knowing that a client was there specifically for a covid test. C. Signs outside and inside Avencia only say "Please wear a mask" D. The Reception room in Tinseltown is small and where people sit there is less than 6' between sitting clients. Does Avencia, have a mandatory mask policy? If not why not? read more

I woke up feeling awful, you guys... I was in and out in under 30 minutes. That's it. From the receptionist who answered my initial questions over the phone, the front desk staff, and the doctor who attended me, everyone was so incredibly professional, compassionate, and friendly. Doctor Mike is a breath of fresh air, in the stuffy world of doctors. He came in with good energy and a smile. Nice pants, vest with some kick ass socks. He's a total hipster. What can I say? Doctors in cool clothes put me at ease. It feels like they're people too. I limped in the office with a very swollen sprained knee from a week prior. I was worried I was having a blood clot or other serious complications. I wanted a referral to get a Doppler vein scan . He told me I didn't need one as there was no clot , however to give me peace of mind , he wrote it up anyway. Gave me sound advice and peace of mind. Just as a doctor should do. I cannot tell you how important it is for a doctor to really listen to his patient and respond without being condescending. I will be back if I need urgent care. Don't wanna go back though The cost for the visit was $150. It's steep but what urgent care doctor isn't? read more

The staff were friendly and I was able to get my son seen fairly quickly. The NP we saw did an exam and said that we were dealing with Strep Throat and she'd call in an antibiotic and gave other necessary info. However, she did not do a swab culture, and it really didn't dawn on me until after we'd left. Without that, there's no way to know if he had a virus that needed no antibiotics, or did need that. I should have questioned and not accepted a diagnosis without that, as I do try to avoid unnecessary meds. In the past, we've even had one son with strep and other son with same symptoms and not strep, so I know that it could have easily been either. Based on that, it seems that cost saving of not doing the test mattered more than accuracy of treatment, so I will not likely be back. read more

Nobody will believe this. I went to the Avecina in Oakleaf this evening and was denied treatment because I did not have a referral from my primary care physician. That is insane. I was turned away only to bear another night of pain and agony. I guess my condition was not "urgent" enough. Perhaps I should have passed out on the floor. There was plenty of room. The place was empty - not one person waiting. Never again. ******************* Mr. S comments shown below are truly CYA, as treatment was in fact refused. I was not offered any self-pay option, or any option for that matter, and was actually advised to go to the emergency room for treatment. The person at the desk stated that Avecina would not be paid by Humana unless I had a referral. What doctor in their right mind would refer a patient to Urgent Care? Give me a break. I did not make a decision not to be seen and was absolutely refused treatment. I later contacted Humana and was informed I did not need a referral for treatment. Avecina is listed as an Urgent Care facility in my network. And I hope you feel better soon. You're head must be pounding after this awful review. read more

High turnover at the front desk. Was there 20 minutes before my 8:50 appt and waited another 25 minutes. Was told that it takes time to insurance verifications. Which is garbage. Worst experience at the oakleaf off in the 3 yrs I have been going. To be told well it take time, yet you watch people come in after you get served faster. read more

Avecina is always my "go to" when I need to be seen quickly to get on the path to feeling better. Never a long wait and you don't sit in the patient room for more than 5 min to be seen. Dont go here. This place is a joke. The receptionist is not friendly at all. And for some reason they was having system issues again and couldn't verifie my son's insurance so I would have to pay almost $200 up front then they would reimburse me. Never tried to call the numbers on the back of the insurance card or anything. More concern on money then my urgent need. It was pay the deposit or go somewhere else. So we did!! This place is unreal. I will never go there again. If you live near St Vincent's urgent care go there. It's 100 times better and treats their patients with care no matter what. read more

When charging absurdly high costs for Covid tests ($175) it would be refreshing to be seen at the time of your appointment. If that is not feasible, it would be helpful to be contacted ahead of time to be informed that the appointment time cannot be met and needs to be pushed back. Seeing as how neither of those options seem to be feasible for Avecina, maybe charge accurately for the service being provided. Disappointing service should at least be cheap. An appointment at 4:00pm should never mean that you are called in to be seen at 5:44pm. Be proactive, set accurate expectations, avoid bad reviews. read more

First time going here. My experience was terrible. Too many patients crowded into a space too small to allow for social distancing. One of the employees kept pulling her mask down and leaving it down. My guess is that anyone who didn't have COVID-19 before they came in probably did after they left. When I attempted to contact them directly to express my concerns I was met with an angry, rude, spiteful response. Not exactly what you hope for or expect from a medical provider. My family is on vacation and my 3 year old woke up at 4 am on a Saturday with an ear infection. We came here just a few minutes after opening and we're seen within 10 minutes. I'd give this review a 0/5 stars if I could. Firstly why are masks still a mandatory thing? Especially when it's not mandatory everywhere else! Secondly I was told I could come back and get an extended medical excuse if I still was not feeling well from the ladies at the front desk. The lady at the front (who was the same as I saw on Friday, who was incredibly rude on that day) rudely told me that in order to receive an extended excuse I would need a note from my primary doctor. Which in all my years of going there, I never had to bring them anything from any primary doctor. Also they did not test me for RSV of which doing my own research I think I may have. Strange how they treat the elderly incredibly differently from those who are younger. As my mom had gotten treatment there for the same exact reason and she was able to get an extended excuse without needing a note from a primary doctor. So unless you are old, have the flu or covid expect to be treated differently by the front desk ladies. Also don't expect them to test to see if you have any other illnesses. read more

I had been coughing for about a week. I assumed I had allergies, so I kept on trucking. I was wrong...my voice started to disappear, and the coughing didn't subside. Completely disgusted with avecina at oak leaf. Made an appointment as my son was showing symptoms and had been exposed to COVID-19. Was advised on the phone that there would be no charge. However they did charge us $125. When I called to dispute this they were not helpful at all and said they couldn't bill our insurance because he hadn't seen one of their doctors, however they never asked us if we had insurance to begin with. read more

I had a rib injury and went in here since I have had three good experiences previously. This last visit will be my final visit here. The staff could care less about any pain or discomfort you're experiencing. They just take your money and let you go on. The front desk was demanding I pay $75 for the Covid test I had back in December, but my company paid for it and she said they could not tell if they paid or not but demanded I pay or else I won't be seen for my rib injury. My daughter woke up this morning sick. I Googled urgent care centers because I did not want to take her to the emergency room. I saw that avecina medical was right near my home. I did not realize that they even existed! I called them they told me come right in. We got there and filled out a few papers and waited maybe 5 minutes and we're taken straight back. The nurse that took my daughter's vitals was extremely friendly very compassionate and empathetic. We saw Michael the PA, he was very sweet and very thorough and very concerned about my daughter's health. My daughter is 16 and she was even impressed with this facility. We will be back if we ever have another situation where our regular physician is not open. read more
