This is honestly one of my favorite places to go to get my hair done! The prices are really affordable, especially compared to a traditional salon, and I've always had a great experience here. I've had my hair balayaged, cut and styled, and even had my roots done to blend in with color that I previously did myself. Every service I've received has turned out great, and both the service and products used are really good. Since the services are performed by students, I would recommend requesting that the educator be involved if you're nervous or have a specific look in mind. They can really help walk the student through the process and make you feel more comfortable. I have been coming here for years now. I know it has a slightly low rating, but I really value the services I get here. I appreciate that students of all ages can learn new skills here. I really love the enthusiasm of the students. They bring a lovely happy energy. The shop just feels so vibrant. The clients who come here are all ages too. I love all of the products, & that they do not do animal testing & are environmentally friendly. The students are friendly and eager to learn. There are plenty of instructors and everyone is up to date on the newest techniques. I usually get my hair colored and cut (When I feel inspired). I will admit I was hesitate to come here for the longest not knowing what to expect. I think what I appreciated most was that it's a slower process in that they need to get approval from their pros before moving on. This allowed for fewer mistakes in my opinion and allowed for the customer to speak up if they wanted something changed or differently. Nothing is worse when hairdressers go to fast and are hard of listening of when to stop. I would just reccomend reserving a date to book a person that's right for your needs. read more

*this review is from the experience of being a student client, not for the educational experience* After years of pacing this location I finally gave it a go - and overall a very great experience! Everyone was very friendly and the students were professional and to be appreciated of you coming in. My first experience was for a facial with Cali. Shoutout to this student! From the first greeting to closing she was very professional and welcoming. After explaining it was my first time - not only for facial but booking an appointment she was quick to ensure I was aware of what to expect and to clarify and walk me through processes. She provided the option of a quiet treatment or one explaining the steps and what was being applied. Ad this was meant as an educational experience (especially for myself) I requested the walk through. She did a great job ensuring I understood what was being used and why and what I can do at home. At the end I learned it was her first time with a client at the school. I was surprised, as she was incredibly professional and I would have guessed she'd done it a variety of times with how smooth the entire experience was. The haircut experience with Liz was overall positive. She was super friendly and very easy to talk with - a great thing since you are with them for a good amount of time even if not doing a specialty service! I could tell this was a true passion. She was able to teach me a few hair care things I had no idea about (apparently I've been conditioning wrong) and really inspired me in ways to improve my hair health. She also was not afraid to ask for assistance when handling an area she was unfamiliar with - ensuring that mistakes were not made on the client and that she could use this as an opportunity to continue to grow and learn tools. At the end of whatever session you complete, each student ends with personally escorting you back to the entrance and walk you through the products. I appreciate that this process is more about the informative aspect than high pressure sales like you'll find at many haircut places. There was no pressure. I will definitely return to explore more of their spa and aesthetician services, as these are newer areas to me and the prices are great to get a feel for the experiences while also helping provide valuable experiences and feedback to students. At the end of each session the instructor will pop in periodically to provide guidance, check on their technique, and ask for your feedback. Don't be afraid to be open and honest as that is the purpose! As a friendly reminder be sure to bring some cash - students can accept tips (they do not ask so keep that in mind if you are wanting to provide the tip - which I feel you should since they are providing a service - be sure to give it to them before parting ways. I went in for a facial before my wedding. Inside, it was busy and bustling, until we entered the spa area, where it was dimly lit, soft music was playing, and it smelled like essential oils. The facial was very relaxing. McKayla did my treatment and paid close attention to detail, assessing my skin and involving her educator for confirmation of the protocol she selected. My skin is sensitive so she did a sensitive protocol with hydrating treatment. The shoulder massage was amazing and my skin was so glowy afterward. It was affordable too. Got there and was greeted right away. I was told there were no appts today, but I could do a consultation. Well, ended up having my hair done. They said my hair is very healthy and beautiful. Hearing that made my day They recommended a trim and a botanical mask. They loved everything about my hair and did not want to cut it. The personnel is friendly and seem very genuine. They ask questions and take your answers and comments into consideration when giving you hair advice. The vibe is pretty relaxed, but also busy and loud. I had been curious about trying this place for a while and finally decided to go for it. I scheduled an appointment for a half head highlight and haircut. I received a voicemail 25 MINUTES BEFORE MY APPOINTMENT telling me that they had to cancel my appointment because the student was running behind. I was already halfway there and only found out because I called to let them know that I may be a few minutes late due to a horrible rainstorm. If I hadn't called, I wouldn't have heard the message until I arrived - and I would have driven an hour to get there. I understand that this is a school but it's also a business and it's is a TERRIBLE business practice to treat clients this way. Hopefully the students came with better ethical standards because they clearly aren't being taught how to treat clients. read more

This place is a joke! I had an appointment at 1pm for root touch up, partial highlights, and cut. Showed up at 12:50pm and checked in. 1:20pm rolls around and I'm still sitting there so I asked when I might be called by someone and was told my student was running behind so they switched me to another one. Ok no problem. Then 1:50pm comes and I'm still sitting there. Asked the front desk again and was told he would find a manager. Comes back and says manager is looking for a student. Sit there for another 5 minutes and still nothing so I walked out. Not only did I leave work early today for this, I also had my step daughter with me who had to sit and wait a whole hour for nothing too. I called and asked for a manager and she apologized and asked if I wanted to come back in. I explained how I didnt want to pay for those services after sitting there for a whole hour being ignored so she offered me a 20% discount. I'm not looking for freebies but after wasting my time and being a first time customer there, a 35% discount would have sufficed so I declined the 20%. Horrible first visit! read more

As an Esthetitian student here at Orlando branch I would say emphatically GO TO SCHOOL SOMEWHERE ELSE!!!! Aveda is AWESOME but the Orlando branch is horrible. Educators are angry all the time, equipment is constantly broken and most a huge safety violation, the teaching is inconsistent and can barely be called teaching. They demand excellence from their students but NOT themselves, they barely give 10% and expect 110% from the students. The Esthiology department is treated like we dont matter from Administration, because the Cosmetology department is what they were built for. We have broken equipment, are constantly out of products and disposables, and our concerns are laughed off and swept under the rug. There is constant DRAMA amongst the teachers and between Educators and students and forget about taking concerns to Administration that run the building because they care less about the students than the teachers do. From my whole experience, students are treated like dirt, they are treated like peasants, and that we should be privileged to be allowed to pay money to step over the threshold. I do not usually write reviews but my experience, along with my fellow students, had such a horrible experience here I want to WARN everyone I can from going to this Orlando branch. If you can, seriously go to Tampa Aveda or anywhere else. Aveda's curriculum is top notch and the ability to work on paying clients and get real worl experience is amazing, Truly. But this building leaves Allot to be desired and just makes you feel gross by the time you leave you cant wait to never see any of these people again. Worst College experience I have EVER had. My 90 minute facial was scheduled for 1300. I waited until approximately 1315 to be greeted by my esthetician and was told we were "waiting for a paper" that she needed in order to get started. Ultimately the facial didn't start until after 1330 but I was still charged for a 90 minute facial despite ultimately receiving an hour-long treatment. read more

Not allowing your students enough time for so much as a bathroom break and making them rush from client to client is shameful. Especially with how fancy art schools like to have extravagant cuts and colors. I have mixed feelings for this place. I actually came here looking to go to school for Aesthetics. I paid the $50 non refundable enrollment fee to find out that my school accredition was not valid. The funny and weirdest thing is I also applied to Valencia college with the same school accreditation and was enrolled for my A.S course: How does a city college accept my accreditation and this privately owned school doesn't?!? I'm still clueless on how they run their operations. Now for the good part, my cousin went here and is now a very successful business owner. She doesn't do hair anymore only lashes but this school gave her the advantages of being a self employed business owner. The products are amazing!! I would come here for blow outs and hair cuts by the students. I know soon a i'll be booking an appointment at night time for the students who rarely get people to work on. Run as far away as possible. The director is one sided, lessons are disorganized many times they don't even have an instructor for the day. The rules they give you when you sign up are not enforced. Terrible guest service. Takes forever and rarely end up with what you had hoped or even close

Let me start with the positive--great haircut at a great price. But the service is all over the place. My very first visit a couple of years ago for a basic haircut and style took two hours!! I wasn't pleased at the length of time but decided to give them another chance because my haircut was good. I went back several more times with a great results (each visit the same--shampoo, haircut and style --all done in less than an hour). Yesterday, I had an appointment and oh my word, the stylist was in over her head. I realize the stylists are students but they are also about to graduate and enter the working world. She had trouble attaching my cape, couldn't wrap my wet hair in a towel and it took her 2 hours to do a basic cut (my hair was completely dry before she was finished with the cut). The stylist lack confidence and ability to do a simple haircut in a timely basis. read more

got a makeup application for my birthday. I understand it's too much a gamble to be cheap on a birthday. but i don't think it should be like this still. my seat was in the lobby, facing the lobby. th questions were, "do you need mascara? do you need to do brows? you need lipcolor?" to my understanding, makeup application is more than foundation. however, after the first step, which was the foundation, pretty every step is too much to ask for, or something i don't need to get done. the eyeshadow makes my eyes look swollen badly. i thought a student would do better than myself. read more

I have two teens. One went Wednesday at 11am, with an appointment, for highlights and when she got there they said there was no appointment. They said they could get her in and she waited an hour. Then they said come back at 1pm. She obliged and didn't get done until around 6pm. Way too long For basic highlights. My other daughter went in today with an appointment at 9:30 for full highlights and a haircut. Both girls have the same hair. The stylist said oh it looks like you had color before what have you done in the past. We said she used sunbum lightener last summer and it's very grown out. She immediately got her teacher and he said we can't work on this hair And very loudly said we would damage it too much by using bleach on damaged hair. He said it's so damaged and just acted disgusted, which her hat is not damaged because she regularly gets treatments and haircuts. I said I've never heard you can't work on hair a year after it had sunbum lightener in it and that my other daughter with the same hair came in 2 days ago and you did her hair. He got louder, rude and started moving my daughter's hair around saying how bad it was. My daughter was completely embarrassed because the surrounding stylists were staring at her by now. I was completely thrown off by what he was saying. It was not true and that's not what you should be teaching your students to treat a customer like if their hair was damaged. You should be giving them options for treatments or something else. I was completely thrown off by the whole experience and will never come back to Aveda. We went to Paul Mitchell the same day and they did her hair in a couple hours. They said her hair looked healthy and there was no issue getting highlights. I am completely disgusted with the customer service the educator provided. If he treats clients like that I sure wouldn't want him as my teacher. read more

My hairdresser, Master level Chris S, gave me a professional hair shampoo, skillfully accomplished haircut and blow out service in a comfortable, friendly and vibrant environment. My first experiences were pretty good but I was also just getting a haircut. The other two times I came in for highlights.. it was pretty much a disaster. My stylist doing my hair the first time was very attentive but then the instructor told her to use a color toner for my highlights that turned my hair red (I was going for caramel ). It wasn't the stylist's fault, it was more the instructor telling her what shades to use. But when I calmly mentioned "that's not really what I was looking for" the instructor came over and started yelling at me in the middle of a crowded shop and telling me I didn't know what I was seeing. I left very unhappy but came back to correct the color, where they added another toner. I decided to give it another chance after since they were willing to correct it the first time. My second time getting highlights was more of a nightmare. My stylist was nice but never checked on how my hair was processing, which can be a little scary. She cut my hair shorter than what we discussed, she damaged my ends with the dye and curled so I was unable to tell my hair was cut uneven until I got home. I called to tell the manager that my hair was cut uneven and they brought me back in. I had been in the salon for 5+ hours, more than double time I've spent anywhere else. When I returned to correct the haircut the instructor could tell it was obviously cut very uneven, and agreed to fix as much as possible (which meant cutting even more ). Overall, as much as I like a deal and giving people a chance, it's not worth risking your hair by coming here. read more

Whoever cuts your hair today will likely as not be gone the next time you come in. You may or may not be able to follow them because they may be moving out of state. I love this beauty school! I have been purchasing their services for about 7-8 years. The school is very well managed from the front desk with Andrew (always very cordial and efficient), and the experienced teachers like Steve (hair salon) and Natasha (SPA). I do my hair coloring with master students. Every student follows directions from the floor teacher. If you have any concerns about your hair, you will receive first a teacher's consultation before the student proceeds with the work. The spa program is wonderful. You can get different services. I usually get the 60 minutes facial with the Plant Cell mask. It's a product that you can only have at the spa and it rejuvenates your face. I have also done waxing and more and I have always been satisfied. I am a retired teacher, so I love the school setting. If you are considering this institute for school purposes, all I can say is that the advanced students graduate knowing a lot and they look ready for their new career when completed the courses. I had very low expectations when booking and arriving at our service appointment. I wanted to treat my tween daughter and her friend to a mani-pedi without breaking the bank. The prices were very reasonable--$30 for the combo and you get to keep your polish? Sign us up! The girls had a wonderful time. The students helping them were delightful and engaged them in conversation the whole time. It did take a little more than 2 hours for both services, but they are students who are being supervised by an educator who has to come by and check on their work, so I expected this to take a while. The polish looked great. They didn't have a ton of colors to choose from, but there is something for everyone. I would definitely try them again for nail services. My daughter will try them out for a simple haircut so we will soon see if their hair students provide a great experience as well! If you do want to come, know that the students do not get paid for what they do and you cannot give them a tip on your card, so bring cash! read more

I had a great experience! I like getting my hair cut from Aveda Salons. Recently they've upped their prices so I decided to try an alternative option -- going to the Aveda Institute. This is a much more affordable option. A haircut is $20 (their site has levels you can choose from, but there wasn't the $15 option available). I added on a Botanical Treatment for $15. At Aveda Salons it's $35. This treatment is Aveda's version of Olaplex. Pros: - affordable - walk-in available - pretty entrance - friendly staff - lots of light coming into the salon, so it feels nice - I got face framing bangs and my stylists' teacher cut that, so I got an experienced stylist without paying the price - the stylist did exactly as I said Cons: - the area where hair is cut isn't as professional looking as Aveda salons. It just wasn't as clean - the blow out at the end wasn't that great, it looked ok. I wouldn't come here to get a blowout before a party read more
