The chef-owners, Brendan & Haley, prepared and served a thoughtfully curated multi-course dinner featuring the freshest seasonal Oregon ingredients. Every course was beautifully executed, but the duck was, without question, the best I've ever eaten. Perfectly cooked, incredibly flavorful, and something I'll be telling everyone I talk to who plans to go to Willamette Valley. What made the evening even more special was hearing directly from the chefs as they shared the inspiration behind each dish and highlighted the incredible local farms and producers they partner with. It felt intimate, personal, and unlike a traditional restaurant experience. You could feel the care and intention that went into every detail. If you only know Alea for its amazing bread, breakfast, or pastries, you're missing one of the most unique dining experiences in McMinnville. Our daughter has celiac disease, and after talking through options with our server, she ordered a modified breakfast plate. When it arrived, it had two slices of (gluten-full) toast placed right in the middle. We asked for a remake. While we were waiting someone came over to tell us (firmly) that the kitchen isn't dedicated gluten-free. We fully get that, but that's different from putting bread on top of everything on the plate, especially after we'd already discussed the restriction. As I was saying that, the staff member walked away. The interaction felt more like a lecture than the apology that would've been appropriate. The food overall was okay, but not memorable. My husband said the "special" Bloody Mary was the worst he's ever had--memorable, just not in a good way. On the positive side, the gluten-free coffee cake was excellent, and thankfully the company made the day worthwhile. My guess is there may have been an issue with our reservation. We made it in person previously and it was written in a notebook. When we called to confirm the day before, they initially couldn't find it. It felt like it might not have made it into the system, and they were trying to accommodate on the fly once they realized it. If that's the case, a little transparency upfront would have gone a long way--we would have appreciated the option to adjust our plans rather than end up waiting outside for so long. Overall, this felt like a series of misses and mishandled opportunities to improve the experience. It's also an excellent reminder of why I normally steer clear of dining out on holidays.

We. Love. This. Place…read more The family who works it. The ingredients that they use. The attitude of service. The devotion to quality. Duffy's had become and integral part of our weekly routines. It's perfect for a quick coffee and snack on the go, but it's also wonderful to meet friends and family at. It's a relaxed but polished place, full of smiles and good smells. I love their breakfast sandwiches. My kids adore the gluten free muffins Miss Kelly makes. Their coffee is my universal pick-me up. Mr. Doug never fails to make my kids smile, while Delaney and Peyton are always so patient and charming with the children. When I asked my son what special place he wants to go for his birthday dinner, he yelled "Duffy's" and the rest of them said "for me too!" He was so disappointed that it wasn't a dinner option, but you bet dollars to bagels (like the locally sourced ones stocked here) that we will be there for his birthday coffee!
