Inside a knick-knack shop, take the stairs in the back leading up to the open loft type restaurant. The stairs at the front of the shop lead down to a very cute tea shop/lounge. Spacious seating, bright and airy. Service was very friendly. Sandwiches and salads, nothing too inventive, basic sandwiches done really well, with fresh wheat bread and quality fillings. You can order a half or whole sandwich, and they have daily soup specials. We ordered a cup of corn chowder, the sage club and the cheese avocado tomato sandwiches. A Must-Visit Lunch Spot in McMinnville! Every time I visit McMinnville, this restaurant is at the top of my list--and once again, it did not disappoint! In fact, my friend and I loved it so much that we had lunch here twice during our trip. The corn chowder was absolutely fantastic--so creamy with just the right amount of seasoning. A great little lunch place I would have never discovered without a recommendation. Open a few scant hours mid-day this is a downtown Mcminnville hot spot. You know it's good when the senior citizens and the cops go there. This is located upstairs of a cute gift shop (all the stuff you don't need but secretly want). This place specializes in homemade sandwiches and soups. It appears they do a brisk take-out business from all the bags near the back door. A soup and sandwich is filling and often you have some to take home. Also, do not neglect their dessert menu. They offer many tasty desserts. The restaurant is located upstairs above a very nice boutique store, so if you have to wait for a table there are lots of items to look at and buy while you wait. However, the wait was no more then about 15 minutes, and the staff actually moved tables and chair around to make room for my group of 5 people. I had a garden salad with red wine vinaigrette and he had the turkey noodle soup and we split a BTLA. Stopped by this afternoon and ordered a picnic to go. The place was a humming' along with happy vacationers and kids out of school (some). Another great lunch at Sage Restaurant! I had my favorite- the Cashew Chicken Salad with Honey Mustard Dressing. And the Turkey Noodle Soup. The noodles are made right there in the kitchen at Sage, where they also bake their own bread. All the food was fresh and the service was excellent. I topped it off with a piece of Marion Berry Pie a la mode. The staff was professional and clearly very experienced. It makes a difference. I like to go where the locals eat. This is a very popular lunch spot in McMinnville. It fills up fast and it's fairly small. Be prepared to wait for a table if you go at noon. It does get loud- not great if you want to hold conversation with your lunch date. The service is good, they're fast & friendly. We usually go there for soup & salad combo, $9.95. The soups are homemade as is the thick, soft bread served with it. Every soup I've had has been delicious. The salad is always crisp and fresh. The side of sunflower seeds is a tasty touch . My big complaint about this restaurant is its lack of accessibility. My mother enjoyed going for lunches here many times. She uses a walker. In recent years, she's become unable to climb stairs thus preventing her from continuing her outings here. It was difficult enough for her and others who use canes and walkers to get upstairs . We are visiting McMinnville and went here based on reviews. You enter through a boutique/gift shop all the way to the back and up the stairs. We went at lunch time and it was quite crowded, which is always a good sign when trying a new place. Just stand in line on the stairs and they will seat in that order. They serve cold sandwiches, soups and salads, everything is a-la-carte. I got the half ham sandwich, ham, Mayo, lettuce & tomato, I added cheese and bacon to my sandwich and bag of chips (one choice available, sea salt kettle chips). My husband got the ham sandwich and broccoli soup. The sandwiches are made from thick homemade bread that is soft and fresh. While it was nice to try a new place, and the vibe there is pleasant for a quick lunch, the thought of spending $8 for half of a cold sandwich hurts my heart a little Overall I think it's just a preference thing, if your a sandwich type person or maybe want just a salad or cup of soup, you'd probably enjoy lunch there. read more

Sage isn't my favorite place to grab a bite in McMinnville, but we keep coming back so they must be doing something right. Surrounded by other great soup/sandwich/salad spots it's easy to miss but may be worth a try if you're in the right mood. The long and short of it: 1. Bread: I get the feeling that the bread at Sage is the reason most people come or come back. They bake it fresh everyday and it shows. It's soft, it's fluffy, it's delicious and it comes on either side of a sandwich or with soup. Eat it, enjoy it, savor its carb-filled goodness. 2. Things that go on and next to the the bread: The sandwiches at Sage are fine, but get taken to another level by the aforementioned bread. Their signature soup, creamy broccoli, is tasty and pairs well with any sandwich. My favorite so far has been the roast beef with added horseradish, but they've all been good, not great. *WARNING: if you're like me and prefer to go no mayo on sandwiches, they will ask if you want butter instead. Do not do this. I'm unsure what butter they're using but it is nauseatingly sweet and will ruin your sandwich. Just go dry.* The salads are equally good, nothing to write home about but will get the job done. 3. Service: The service at Sage has been spot-on every time we've been. This is impressive as it is not a huge space and is usually fairly full. It's always nice to see a staff that operates as if it knows that people are here for a work lunch and need to get in and out in a timely manner. 4. Store: Sage is located above a Cracker Barrel style nick-knack store (you know the kind, lots of stuffed animals and magnets) that also sells clothing. This in turn is above a artisan tea and chocolate shop which is fun. Worth browsing around if you're just stopping in for a day and need a souvenir or some chocolate to take home. 5: Price: Sage is actually a bit on the cheaper side. $10 for a whole sandwich/salad/ half-sandwich and soup combo. This is nice considering I'd usually rather head to Community Plate or Valley Commissary in the same area for better food. Always nice to have a cheaper option if you're feeling frugal. Sage is OK food, on great bread, for a pretty good price. If you're a bread lover (that's a thing... right?) then it's a must visit. If not, it's a nice option to have. Overall Grade: C+ read more
