I got to Avenue nails on a Saturday at 6pm. The shop was not busy. I needed a manicure + gel polish. It took the lady an hour to do a simple manicure. The shop was messy and outdated. My manicure looked pretty good and I was satisfied when I left. That is until the next day when my polish started lifting and a few of my nails broke. My manicure lasted a whole 24hrs. This place is absolutely amazing. I had my pedicure done there the old school way and they did a good job. I would go back.

For a $25 mani and pedi I am a fan! They use OPI nail polish and I've had my mani and pedi for 3 weeks - well more so my pedi because I've been doing some moving at work so my nail polish chipped off my nails =( . The ladies are real sweet and it seems like they have plenty of regulars coming in which is always a great sign since there is another nail salon across the street. Make sure to park in the lot behind the salon because it is 5 hour limit. If you park on San Mateo Ave, there is a 2 hour limit. read more

Nails by JOHN he did a great job, took his time paid attention to detail and was very gentle with my weak nails ! He gave me exactly what I wanted and they look amazing, I'm really picky and I have nothing but good things to say. Situated on San Mateo Ave, in SAN BRUNO, Avenus is a quiet, clean shop with pink walls and plants and comfy chairs/sofas and an AWESOME current selection of ENTERTAINMENT magazines!! They always have fashion shows playing on their large t.v. Now for a review of the services: Pink and white fill: $25.00.....* 5 STARS!!! May does a WONDERFUL job with the pink and white fills...for those of you that may not know, a pink and white fill is basically a French manicure...however, the white tips are actually applied to the top of your nail and sort of baked on (no worries, you're not microwaving your hands, it's this neat liltte white box you stick your hand in, one at a time, with purple bulbs inside...sort of looks like a tanning booth for your finger tips!) The long and short of it is...you have an immaculate, perfectly appointed French manicure and it does NOT budge! Doesn't chip/fade! You could paint another color over it, keep it for a couple days and remove the color and VOILA! Back to the perfect French manicure!! May does a very thorough job and finishes it up with a wonderful massage (great for warding off any threat of carpal tunnel after a strenuous day of reviewing on Yelp) After the massage, she wraps your hands in hot towels to great rid of massage oil/lotion and you are left relaxed and with GORGEOUS hands!! The whole process takes 60 minutes, start to finish. PEDICURE: $16.. **10 STARS!!! (but if you combine it with a pink and white fill, it's only $13.00 so the whole thing is $38.00 before tip) Anyway, Kim does the BEST pedicure! Van also does but she is usually the resident waxer) so anyway, they have wonderful massage/pedi spa chairs...very clean!! You get a nice foot soak, then a very detailed pedicure, scrubbed/filed....then she performs about a 8 min massage that honestly takes you to another dimension, really sublime!! (for another $12.00, you will get an extra 15 minutes or for another $20.00, 30 minutes) FANTASTIC! You really feel relaxed/rejuvenated when you are done. She then wraps the foot in a hot towel and proceeds to apply 2 coats of your favorite OPI enamel! (after a base coat and before a top coat, of course!) They also have an array of other services...from FACIALS/Waxing (anything and everything, just point ) My friend gets Eyebrow waxing done and says its the best ever and less than $10.00 and it lasts for 6 weeks!! They also have eyelash perms, eyelash extensions, a real MECCA of beautification! Unlike many nail salons I have visited over the y ears, they dont' rush you in and out, service and customer happiness is key! They always offer water or a cup of tea, they have a big parking lot right out back and you can always zoom in for a great spot, the people that work there are very sweet and professional! (unlike some shops where the staff spend all their time squawking at one another and ignoring the client, there's none of that here! They accept appts or walk ins....I tend to lean toward the appt just to ensure I'm able to be seen when I go there and get in/out in due time. They accept credit cards and are open Tuesday thru Saturday from 9:30 am to 7pm. Closed Sunday/Monday. They used to be open on Sundays before the economic downturn..perhaps in the future they will re open on Sundays, that was a favorite day of mine to go. There are many good places to eat within a block or 2, and just across from Starbucks, so you can get your nice chai or coffee drink before coming in or just following...Niiiice! i love going to Avenu's nails i have been going there for the past 5 years or more MAY the older lady is great with acrylic Van the beautiful lady with the glasses does amazing facials and waxing and mani pedis Chi or Kim is great with mani pedis as well but amazing with nail design they may speak a foreign language from time to time but it is no uncomfortable at all! as a foreign person in a foreign owned establishment i myself will talk my own language with my other co workers i find them extremely friendly and professional I GO THERE AT LEAST 2 TIMES A MONTH and the nail polish quality is so good one time i went on vacation in mexico or 2 weeks and i swear after the wear and tear of my feet my nail polish stayed on and looked new! Decor aside, I always come out of here with my nails looking really nice for a great price! It always seems to be super busy Thursday and Friday evenings, and that's where I've had to wait a while (I've always walked in though, making an appointment might make a difference). John and Patrick are amazing, but everyone I've had there is also great, and my nails can last easily for 2 weeks with the gel polish and every station is clean. read more

I've been coming to Avenus nails for a couple of years now and they pretty much have memorized the things that I want or what sort of colours that I would go for. It doesn't take very many visits for them to remember you, and I don't come on a regular basis either. There's always the same three ladies working, so they work pretty darn hard and do the job right. Prices are decent and never any problems. read more

Fine, they're affordable. The staff is friendly and the massage chairs actually work. But if I'm paying $23 for a pedicure job that chips within the same day, I'd rather spend a few more bucks for one that lasts for at least a week. I just moved to SSF and was looking for a new place to go to get my nails done at. I don't get pedicures too often, I'm cheap so maybe once every three months, and I usually do my own manis but my baby shower was the next day and I wanted to treat myself. I usually don't take Yelp too seriously so I was willing to overlook the older negative posts, the tacky decor, and the fact that they can't spell avenues correctly. I was there for about an hour and you would think that is the average time spent on getting a mani-pedi, well let me explain a little. I come in at 4:45ish on a friday and I'm told it will be about 30 min wait, no big deal I'm not in a hurry and there are plenty of magazines to keep me occupied. About 5:10 I'm in the chair soaking my feet. The water isn't too hot but its hot outside so I don't mind. The girl started at almost 5:30 on my pedicure seemed very rushed. She is apparently the only one in the place that does waxing and there was someone waiting for an eyebrow wax. Being 35 weeks pregnant I was really looking forward to having someone rub my feet and calves so after she finished filing and scrubbing my feet I was ready to relax and enjoy the massage part. Well there was no massage part she slapped lotion all over my wet feet and calves, sort of rubbed it in, and then wiped it off with a warm wet towel. No massage? Seriously? Isn't that half the point of getting a pedicure? She started the nail polish on my toes and left to do the girl that was waiting for an eyebrow wax. Which that girl came well after I had come. The other girl that took over and started my manicure was nice but again being 35 weeks pregnant I was not a fan of having to reach across my opposite hand for her to work on. This is just me complaining so don't take it too much to heart. I was hoping that after the lack of a foot massage I would at least get a good hand and forearm massage. Well that didn't happen either. She slapped some lotion on my hands and then took it right back off with the warm wet towel. Overall, my cuticles were cleaned up nicely and I bite my nails so there were no nails to trim, just file. I still have left over nail polish around my nails, so I think its safe to say that I could have done the same polish job at home. I was done by 5:45 and as I waited for my nails to dry I thought someone would offer me those disposable flip flops since I left mine at home, well no such luck there either, I had to ask for them. In the end I think I will stick to the salon I usually go to in San Mateo, its worth the drive down there! read more

I went into Avenues Nails without an appointment. it was a cloudy cool saturday afternoon outside and as well rather gloomy inside. don't know quite how to describe it -- the energy is "heavy." it's a large place, not the cleanest place either. I'm actually a fan of "retro" esthetic and old-fashioned places but the energy of the place was what got to me. anyway, the pedicure turned out well. I didn't have to wait long and the young woman who waited on me was very efficient. Still, while sitting under the uv lamps drying my toes, I started to feel a strange feeling (no it wasn't the large macchiato I'd had right before!) and decided to finish drying at home. I looked for my pedicurist to pay and discovered she'd fallen asleep on the little sofa near the back. seeing that sort of confirmed my intuition about the energy of the place! overall I may go back but probably after trying Vicky's across the street. read more

This would've gotten a 5 star but the fact that the place is so old and outdated probably didn't deserve so. So, I go to this place because the ladies are friendly and they know what they're doing. My nail polish can probably last at least a week. If it weren't for the ladies I probably wouldn't take the drive from San Mateo to come here. I also like the fact that they put plastic over the pedicure spa for sanitary purposes. The owner is friendly and she does great job with waxing unlike another wax place where the lady nearly ripped my skin off, I guess I'll save that story for another review. read more

I came to avenue nails since it's close to my house. The place is outdated and dirty. A man who did my nails, took over an hour to do it. Initially I was happy with the job. Looked neat and pretty. 12 hours later first nail chipped off and then the other went too. I have never had gel nails chip off this fast. Stay away! So many much better places. I had been a customer here for a long time, but I will never come back here again. This place looks very dirty and the decor is tacky. The nail polish display is dirty and unorganized. The quality of the polishes isn't so great either. But, on top of that the service is horrible. The nail technicians are very dismissive and rude. They take other customers before ones they have already waiting. The price may be reasonable, which is why I came here for so long, but I think their quality is lacking now. I was referred to them by two friends who both said John was the best in the business. I was told he was very thorough and his gel manicures lasted weeks. They were right, he is amazing and I didn't have to make one request or correction. The woman who gave me a pedicure was also wonderful (I think her name was Rosa) and both of their massages were also supreme!! I went in there this morning as I needed a pedicure right away and everything else was closed. I went in and I was told to sit on the third chair by this girl with really heavy make-up. I waited for five minutes before another girl started working on my feet. It would have been nice if the first girl would had said "we will be with you in a minute" or something. I noticed that there was a little boy running around the establishment, he was the son of the lady doing my pedicure. The poor kid wanted her attention, so she put in a movie for him. We watched Shrek as the tv is right in front of the pedicure chairs but anything was better than to be ignore by the workers there. They spoke in their native language ignoring that they have customers who do not speak their language. The pedicure was ok that's the only reason why they got 2 stars but the ambiance was terrible and the ladies were not very friendly. I've came here for over 8 years or so. I live very near it so that's one of the reasons why I like it here. The waxing done here is great I've gotten a Brazilian wax and eyebrow wax and they have all came out pretty nice. The nails here are good but the only thing I have a problem with is that some of the ladies that work there rush your service. They don't take their time to make sure your nails are all straight or thicker than the other. I've came out of this place with one thumb acrylic nail longer than the other. So yea the waxing is great but just double check your nails before leaving. read more

First off, the place is called Avenus nails, not Avenue nails. I went there for a manicure and pedicure as their sign said they serve men and women. I have to say the place was kind of gross. There were tacky decorations all over the wall, the place didn't look clean and there was some kind of soap opera on the radio that was not very soothing. The staff wasn't dressed professionally either. My manicurist looked a bit like a bag lady. I guess she was cold but she was wearing a knitted cap, a scarf, finger gloves and sweat pants. I thought about bolting but I felt it would be rude. I should have listened to myself. First, they use those electric tubs rather than the chairs with the built-in tubs. It's just not appealing to stick your feet in a bucket with plastic bag in it. The main problem was that she cut my toe and it started to bleed. I've been to a place in Piedmont called Love Nails that was excellent and so far I haven't found a place that is as good or as welcoming to male customers. I won't be returning here. I don't think anyone is awful or mean but they seem careless, disinterested and messy. Not a place I'd return to. read more
