Best salon in the San Bruno/Colma/SSF area. Where do you find a salon that still charges $25 for gel mani?? They didn't even charge me for taking off old gel. This is beyond crazy. I've been taking turns at different nail salons for about a year now ranging from $28 to $35 before tips. This place did the best job, super careful with prep and application. I paid $40 including tip for gel mani at a nail salon on Taraval a few months ago (not going to mention name) , walked out and zipped my bag up - the tip of my thumb chipped instantly. Normally the gel would def start falling after 2.5-3 weeks, I tested this place, stayed perfectly solid and chip free for over 3 weeks. I'm not going anywhere else from now on. I can recommend them for nails. They do neat work and a family favorite spot for nails. I can't recommend their facial/ waxing service. I tried their waxing once and my skin ripped (on my chin). It left a scar for a few weeks. They didn't offer refund and tried to brush it off as normal right after the appointment, but I came back to ask for a refund because of the scarring development later. It was my first time getting a wax done so I didn't know any better. But like I said, they do well enough job for the nails and I haven't had any problems with that. read more

Both times I received both excellent service and was very happy after each appointment. This was such a great find! I was traveling from out of town and called tons of other places and was turned away because I didn't have an appointment. Avenus had lower ratings but I was desperate. On the surface this place is not the cleanest or nicest but this is probably the best acrylic fill I've ever received. She hand shaped them exactly how I asked and they look so natural. I noticed the other customers as well everyone's tech was taking their time and was focused on the customer. Very impressed with the skill, definitely visit and leave a good review! I walked in today because my regular spa was closed. They took me in right away. The manicure itself was good BUT the polish job was horrible! The polish smeared off on my sweater and even after 2 hours it was still like mush. The pedicure was alright but the girl that worked on me never stopped talking! Do you know how rude it is to talk in a foreign language in front of your customer? You should only be working not chatting it up with your co workers! It was not a good experience at all. Came to this place yesterday as they opened to remove shellac and get a manicure. I used to get waxed here before i started threading. Any way, they did such a crappy job. My color already came off two nails and she only did put one coat of color, bc it started getting busy. I felt i just wasted time and money. Never again will i end up here. read more

I came a few days ago to get a mani/pedi ($25) and left feeling disappointed. First, they have a lack of colors to choose from. I wanted a dark purple color - OPI's Linkin Park after Dark - but I couldn't find it or even a similar color. The worst part was that there were some other nail polishes from Walgreens on display! It was the first time I'd seen Sally Hansen's express dry nail polish in a nail salon. Part of going to a nail salon is that they have nice brand name nail polishes, not drugstore brands. This place could use some revamping. It looked a little depressing. The nails on display were all crooked and falling off the display. And while they had tons of juicy gossip mags to keep me entertained, I couldn't help but notice that business cards of other companies (jewelry companies, insurance companies, etc) were littered all over the salon. The ladies here are nice, but I've experienced better mani/pedi for about the same price elsewhere and I definitely don't need to skimp on quality. read more

As an acrylic/gel nail addict for the last 8 years & trying almost every nail salon in the daly city/san bruno/ssf area, this place is by far the WORST. I came here for the first time last month (on a friend's recommendation..what was she thinking?!) When you walk in, you immediately notice how much darker it is inside--almost gloomy. Every other nail salon I've been to have a much brighter atmosphere, with comfortable, modern decorations. This place, however, had quite tacky decor & slow, odd music that sounded more creepy than relaxing. There are two sitting/waiting areas with magazines (one in the front, one towards the back by the foot spas). The couches are NOT the cleanest, I actually saw a wad of old gum between two cushions (gross) and crumbs between the side cushion & armrest. You know there must've been a lot of crumbs if I was able to notice it at all. Another odd thing was all their nail polishes weren't on neat stations on the walls (like other nail salons). Theirs were placed in rows on a counter in the back, which wouldn't have been a problem if the counter wasn't FILTHY. But unfortunately, it was. Old nail polish spills that weren't cleaned up, clutter surrouding the rows of polish, and I saw dust in between the back couple of rows. I couldn't help but notice this after I picked up one of the polishes from the back row & saw some dust stuck to the bottom of it. Bleghhhh. Don't get me wrong, I'm not a clean freak in my own home, so I don't usually judge other people/places. But if i'm going to get my nails done, EVERYTHING should be completely SANITARY! I hope they take better care in cleaning/sanitizing their nail equipment. Their polish selection wasn't that great either. Very minimal compared to other salons. It only looks like they have a lot because they filled up lots of space with unknown & cheap brands of polish. Only about 60% of their selection was OPI/Essie/Orly. Now about SERVICE. I would give their service a big fat ZERO if I could. I was so upset when I left, I wanted to scream. Let me break down my experience: -I walk in & notice they're pretty busy (3 customers, 2 employees). I told a younger lady with very bright makeup I needed a fill & pedi. She says, "Sure, just 5-10min". -I had no problem waiting, plus they had a huge selection of magazines to keep me occupied. -15min pass. Another girl walks in from the back entrance of the salon, asks for a full acrylic set. I notice the workers know her by name, so she's obviously a regular. -The girl sits at the other waiting area (I'm sitting at the couch in the front). The lady with the bright makeup tells us to both take a seat at nail stations next to each other. -Lady with bright makeup brings out a piece of equipment (looked dirty), filled it with acetone, and tells me to soak my nails to soften them up. Ok, no problem. I proceed to soak. -Lady with bright makeup then leaves me and starts doing the other girl's nails. Alright, no problem, bc I'm probably gonna have to soak for at least 5 min anyway, nothing wrong with being efficient. -10min pass (I constantly look at the clock behind me). Lady with bright makeup & girl are chit chatting away about their families, vacations, work, etc. -Another 10min pass. I'm absolutely irritated at this point. I take my nails out of the nail-soaking equipment/whateveritscalled bc my fingers are SUPER wrinkly and uncomfortable and my skin is turning red from soaking it so long in acetone!!!! -I keep looking over to catch her attention. I didn't want to be rude & interrupt their conversation. I'm a total puss, so I wait another 5 min. -5 min later, I'm REALLY upset now. Debating in my head whether I should ask to come back another time (too nice?) or if I should just get up and storm out (too harsh?). -I took it upon myself to oil my cuticles with the oil in front of me since the acetone completely F*d them up. THEN I got up & said I have to leave, I have an appointment (with a huge frown on my face). Lady with bright makeup says "Oh.....ok" (no apology) and the girl looks up at me and smiles. No, I did NOT smile back at her. UGH. What kind of service is that? On top of being dirty, they pick & choose customers to help first (they know I was there at least 15min before the other girl). I was NOT going to sit there and wait for her to finish a full acrylic set on that other chick while my poor fingers drowned in acetone. NOT COOL. I went right across the street to my usual nail salon, Victoria Nail Spa. There was a little girls party going on (Vicky allows customers to throw parties there, complete with pizza & kids' pedi spas & flat screen TV & karaoke), but Vicky still took me right away and finished the job Avenue Nails failed to do. Never, ever going to Avenue Nails again. Go to Victoria Nail Spa, theyre the absolute best, AND they have a 5-star rating here on Yelp read more

Even when I moved to Davis for several years to complete my under grad education and i would hold off getting my eyebrows waxed until i was able to travel back to San Bruno. My bestfriend and I went here for pedicures, my nail lady didn't give me the treatment my bestfriend got such as customer service, massage, etc. She completely rushed because there was appointments and since we did a walk in they took us and ruined their timing. Dont tell customers you can take them if you're just going to rush, we go to be semi pampered not thrown around. Your tip and reviews would be so much better. I got to Avenue nails on a Saturday at 6pm. The shop was not busy. I needed a manicure + gel polish. It took the lady an hour to do a simple manicure. The shop was messy and outdated. My manicure looked pretty good and I was satisfied when I left. That is until the next day when my polish started lifting and a few of my nails broke. My manicure lasted a whole 24hrs. Not the best place I've been to but the girls who work there are Thai and they are pretty nice. Nail Polish Colors - I picked up a purple OPI color but it said "Whiteberry" on it. Errrr.
