Visited Favorite Pizza for the first time for a to-go pizza order. I really wanted to love this place because it came highly recommended, but my experience didn't quite measure up. I placed my to-go order online. When I arrived, parking is sparse but I was able to park behind some employee parking spaces long enough to get my order. The employee promptly greeted me at the bar and gave me the status of my pizza and gave me advice on parking. The pizza was ready when promised. It was packed in a to-go pizza box. The restaurant is vintage with a counter to place and pick up orders. They also have a bar area and tables with stools for a diner vibe. I ordered the Piazza pizza with Italian Sausage, Pomodoro, Whole Milk Mozzarella, Roasted Italian Sweet Peppers, Shallot, Basil, Black Olive, Roasted Mushroom, Calabrese Salami. I was expecting something flavorful and balanced, but it ended up being way too spicy for my taste. The heat was completely overpowering, so I couldn't really enjoy the other ingredients. I couldn't really nail down what was spicy on the pizza, I don't think it was the Italian sweet peppers so it must have been the sauce. My mouth was on fire for at least a couple of hours. The crust and overall quality seemed good, and I can tell they use fresh ingredients, but the spice level just wasn't it for me. There was nothing on the menu to indicate that this pizza would be spicy so it caught me off guard. I'd be open to trying something else on the menu next time, just maybe not the Piazza again. Was always curious to try this pizza place. Open late in the night and they serve through a window for a quick grab and their pizza slices start from $5. I got the cheese slice. They took a lot of time to heat it but the pizza wasn't great could have been better. They also had Italian, pepperoni and beers and drinks. Will visit again to try their specialty pizza. read more

Whenever I am downtown for training or anything I visit Favorite pizza for that good lunch slice. This place is not huge in size and the ambiance has a relaxed feel. The place can get a little busy during lunch and there's not a ton of space inside . You can order a slice or a whole pizza. They also have drinks to include alcoholic beverages as well. The pizza is NY style in my opinion and very delicious. The crust has a slight crunch and The pizza is always fresh and the staff is always personable and quick paced. It's a very small establishment (bar counter, window counter, and two tables). I was super excited to have found a pizza place where I could buy per slice! For the size the price felt reasonable and I got the Speciality pizza which had japanenos, peppers, pepperoni, and cheese. There were cheese and red pepper flakes shakers on the counters to sprinkle on the pizza and also packets in case you planned to take the pizzas to go. On the bar counter there was also complementary water and plastic cups. Overall I enjoyed my pizza, the crust was very crunchy and the toppings certainly had the kick of a jalapeño pepperoni cheese pizza! I haven't been here in a while and I was craving a slice of pizza and it was close by to where i was working (trying to be all cool at codependent). I was kinda pumped thinking maybe I was too hard on the place in my last review over a 2.5 years ago. Nah, I wasn't. In fact, pizza has been getting much better in Austin so folks all around should step up their game. Similar to last time, I get annoyed at how much a simple slice of pizza costs but moreso how much a can of diet soda is. And then there's the pizza. So they warm it up in like a blast furnace for steel or something, because it's insanely hot. And funny thing, the slice actually looks pretty good. But amazingly, it has no taste whatsoever. Decent texture though. I will most likely continue to swing by every once in a while and get angry at how much it costs, how little it tastes, and the burns I get on the roof of my mouth from the molten steel warming process. read more

As you've seen me post before about this, I'm an East Coast pizza expert. Austin has very few places that can compare. Favorite makes me feel like I'm scrolling through St. Marks at 3 a.m. munching down on a slice. What does this mean, you wonder? It means it's a damn good slice of pizza. Crust is just the right thickness (thin) and the sauce tastes like it was made by a Brooklyn Nana. First off my family and I are loyal Favorite Pizza customers, and I would generally give them 5 stars but the last two times we have gotten pizzas the crust has not been up to their usual taste and consistency. I am truly worried that there has been some change made to their pizza dough. The last time we noticed it and then again tonight it tasted off again. The issue is that it no longer taste like my favorite pizza in town. I love this place and I will continue to order for the time being, but if this issue continues. that admittedly is more personal to my own families standards of taste (I am a Texan but my fiancé and her children are New Yorkers through and through) it will be hard to keep them elevated as the "best in town in our opinion". A friend of ours that lived in New York for a while said Favorite Pizza was THE BEST NY style pizza she has had in Austin. Naturally we just HAD to check it out for ourselves. Sunday to Thursday they have a deal with a large cheese or pepperoni pizza with a pitcher of beer for $22. Pretty great deal! Went with a large pepperoni with side of ranch and Tyler(I believe he is the manager) threw in some sort of special sauce they have to try since it was our first visit. I really enjoyed the pizza! They did not skimp on the pepperonis, the bottom of the pizza is super crunchy and the crust fluffy, but still crunchy. I only wish he had more red sauce, but I'm a big sauce person. I feel it's very comparable to Homeslice, but I like this price point better ha oh and their ranch is sooooo good. I did like it over the special sauce we got. I wish I remembered the name. On a gorgeous day like this was I recommend sitting out on the patio. It's not very large, but they have a TV and umbrellas. Fun people watching too. Tyler was super nice and they happened to pour the wrong beer for someone and he offered us the additional pitcher. So that was very nice! Oh and the restroom is super cute with a disco ball!!! Staff is always friendly and attentive, and the atmosphere is incredible. It's like stepping off a sidewalk in downtown Austin and being transported to a pizza shop in Brooklyn. I did stop in there for lunch on Sept 30 (Mets doubleheader against Braves for a playoff spot) and they didn't have the Mets game on!! I was surprised that a Mets themed restaurant didn't have the biggest Mets game of the year on (ESPN News or something was on the TV), but maybe the lunchtime staff just isn't Mets fans? I've actually had a few slices around town and this is definitely my favorite. It's the closest to a NY slice I've experienced in Texas. Very quick too, so it can be a refueling stop during your evening rather than a lengthy destination. Pepperoni: Exactly what I want out of a slice. Lots of savory pepperoni rounds. A crust that is firm, so no flopping. A decent amount of sauce. And lots of cheese. It really hits the spot later into the evening. Margherita: I feel like this is specially made for me since I love sauce and fresh mozzarella. Not as much cheese coverage as a regular cheese slice, but the fresh mozzarella rounds are thicker. They grate a little fresh parmesan on when it's done, which tastes better than the powdery parmesan from the shakers. And I think there was some olive oil added at the last minute. I love me a slice of NY style pizza and am a regular at Homeslice but wanted to find a slice of pie closer to me. When I saw this had opened up, I was super excited! NY style? By the slice? Within walking distance? I was sold and went to check it out on opening day. My sister and I ordered the garden pie and perhaps I didn't read the description of it correctly, but we were a little surprised when we received it because it literally looked like a salad on pizza. It was a white pie but didn't have any sauce (again, I probably just assumed sauce would be involved). The top was sprinkled with salt which we had to dust off because it was too overpowering. However, the crust was amazing! What I ordered didn't match up to my assumptions/expectations (def my fault) which left me a little disappointed. However, I'm looking forward to going back and trying something else to see how the red sauce tastes. read more

I live downtown and after sampling several pizza places including homeslice and 313, this has become my go-to. As far as NY slice, im from Jersey and this is the typical Northeast pie. The pepperoni is top tier. It has fresh basil embedded under the cheese and a nice crust (not too thin, not too thick.) Its always weird when i see this place left off the top pizzas in austin lists. I showed them the price on their menu, and their retort was simply, "Oh yeah, the manager has not changed the prices on the menu on online yet." However the name of this pizza place, Favorite Pizza, is so fitting it's crazy. So wash your brain of the "other" pizza place and go to favorite pizza. So. Full disclosure we went late after a day full of shenanigans. It was amazing. But after a full day of shenanigans isn't everything amazing. The location is amazing, it is usually not too hard to find parking around. The staff here is so sweet, I have been here twice now and everyone I have interacted with is lovely. The pizza seals the deal, I just go for a slice or two of either cheese or pepperoni so it ends up being a super amazing and affordable meal for downtown Austin on 6th. The interior of this place will make you feel like you are in a completey different city in the best way. Definitely drop into the restroom while stopping here to see their funky set up in there! It is so cute! Overall, Favorite Pizza has joined my list of places to go regularly in Austin. I would also reccomend it to anyone visiting from out of town.
