We heard about this new spot when we searched online; I kinda regret going. For a new business, the branding is nice, and the bar has a nice draft beer and wine setup. That's really the only reason this place isn't getting one star. There are no bar seats, only communal seating. The music and ambiance is underwhelming. It's definitely not a vibe where you want to stay and enjoy food and drinks. Feels sterile and confusing. The food is WAY overpriced considering you have to pay up at the bar and seat yourself, then bus your own table?!?! We got wings and a pizza with two beers and Paid over $55?!?!? Pinthouse pizza is cheaper, better food and has a better atmosphere. The wings were soggy and so small it was likes a kids meal. Actually, I would have rather had a kids meal at McDonalds. The used canned sauce and crap dressings like hidden valley ranch and blue cheese (something like that). We asked if anything was made in house and the person checking us out said "uh, no we don't do that here". No one explained how the place worked at all, and it felt like the business owner was not present. If he/she was there, they did not make that known for a new business. We tried Aviator for the first time tonight. But it won't be our last! The pizza was delicious. My husband and I couldn't decide what was the best part, the dough or the marinara sauce. We split the vegetable pizza (so yum!) and our kids had the basic cheese. They ate the whole thing! Each of them had four slices! And if the pizza isn't enough reason to go to Aviator, you have to go just to talk to Mitchell. He was the most joyful guy. He was quick with service and incredibly helpful with our questions. My husband said if we could still have kids, he'd name him Mitchell. read more

We were very excited to try this place out, as it's in waking distance of our new house. Their beer selection is awesome. The pizza is very good, although there is better in Austin (Pinthouse), but can't really ask for better with the distance factor. They let us try their dessert pizza which was decadent and addictive. I want to try their calzones and sandwiches, although price-wise the pizza is better value. Sandwiches are around $10, calzones $13. A specialty pizza for two is $16. Beers are around $6-7, but are almost all craft and local beers. I really liked the atmosphere, laid back but clean and Austin-y. read more

So happy to see new restaurants in the SoSoCo. Aviator is a cool looking place with a bunch of beers in the coolest tap system I've seen. To start, the place is a serve yourself. Order & prepay at the bar, grab your own plates, drinks, bus your table. I understand that at a McDonald's but paying $40 for a pizza, salad, & one glass of wine then busing your own table....? Maybe at a food truck for half the price but no wait staff for these prices is not appealing to me. The food was average. The pizza toppings were flavorless which is hard on a garlic pizza. The salad was equal to a McDonald's salad in a nicer bowl. Was happy with the gluten free dough option & it was good. Nothing felt from scratch & more like it was delivered from Sysco or typical chain food. Service was good but no one explains how the place works. If you're eating & need another beer you have to go get it at bring it to me prices. I was excited to see a cool big awning but it has been removed so your in the sun & weather if outside. Again the interior is cool & workers nice. I just don't like the concept or the quality of ingredients. If you're a beer person you should really check them out. Growlers to go too. Also the wine list had some excellent selections you don't normally see. I know they are new so I will come back to see how they evolve. read more

This place is great as far as atmosphere goes, but I was not wow'ed by the food or the drink menu. The food menu seemed all over the map, while the drink menu seemed pretty limited and didn't pair with certain things. It was just ok. Community seating wasn't an issue for me but the loudness of the surroundings were distracting. I prefer other places over this one for sure. read more

The pizza was A-OK. The beer selection was a bunch of local beers you could get anywhere else in town. They didn't seem to have any of their own. They were out of a lot of beers and the kid pouring them was struggling with foam blasting out of the taps, but maybe they'll work out the kinks the longer they're open. If you live in the neighborhood and want a drink I would say try it out. read more

Natural Lighting, very Open. Sitting- um bench seating not so comfortable. Took 30 minutes for our one pizza. Thick crust and the sauce had no flavor and very minimal sauce. Not sure if I would come back? Nothing too spectacular. Definitely cannot come during lunch time due to the time it took to get our food. read more

I called my order in this evening and asked for the Spinach Salad. I asked the guy on the other end of the phone if it was a problem to substitute the feta for cheddar and hold the tomatoes, he replied that it was no problem and repeated the order back to me for confirmation. He then told me that my total was $10.77 and that it would be ready in 5-10 minutes. My husband and I arrived at Aviator's less than 10 minutes after I placed the order. He went in to grab the salad and returned to my car window to tell me that I got the total wrong and he needed $2.00 more. I gave it to him and then checked the price on my phone because I was sure I heard the guy on the phone correctly. Yep, $9.95 plus tax is $10.77, not $12.77. So, I pass my husband on his way out, go inside and ask the guy at the counter why I was told my total was less than they charged my husband. He told me that I was told the wrong amount and it is store policy to charge $2.00 for any substitutions. I asked why I wasn't informed of this on the phone, especially when cheddar is less expensive than feta. He said, in a very condescending voice that he agreed that the rule is ridiculous and I didn't hear wrong, I was told $10.77 on the phone, and yes feta is more expensive, so he's sorry, but that's the way it is. So, we've been regular customers since we lived in Elgin and they opened their first store, but this is the second time we've received less than great service at this location and I think we're done. I'm a bit disgusted that it cost them less to keep the tomatoes, and use a cheaper cheese on a salad that is fresh made and they decided to charge me an extra $2.00 instead of making an exception to their rule since they told us a different amount to begin with. I hope the two bucks was worth losing a customer. read more

Solid pizza. Good beer selection. Reminds me of a bit of Pinthouse. The dough is soft and on the thicker side. We tried the Four Cheese, Major Tom and mozzarella bread. I came craving cheese and did not leave disappointed. Local brews. Toppings were oddly my least favorite part... No real crisp on meat, they seemed a bit underdone, but still satisfying. Good vibes. I met my bestie and hubby here for happy hour planning to just have wine and maybe a snack. Wine is $1 off during happy hour and the pour very large. So we ordered the Major Tom. It was good, not like oh man I've gotta go back for this, but good. We also got the sriracha Brussels sprout and goat cheese pizza. Again, good, but not wow. Wait staff was super nice and the space has great natural light. It was easy to park and overall a good experience. While I'm not itching to go back, if I were in the area and craving pizza and wine, I'd definitely go back. Recommend giving it a shot. read more

We tried Aviator for the first time tonight and had the Chicken Bacon Ranch, the Pepperoni and Basil and the Breadsticks. The crust for all was cooked perfectly and all were extremely flavorful. Our personal favorite was the Chicken Bacon Ranch, a must try! Not only that, but the staff was highly customer service oriented, even letting us sample beers while we waited. So we saw the place awhile back and had been wanting to stop by. We finally did and it was the best decision ever. The guy at the counter was amazing and super nice and really excited to be there. He talked to us about the beers on tap and gave a quick run through of the story on their pizza and how they came to be. We ended up ordering (I don't know the names) the one pizza that was all meat and the other one that had all meats + all veggies. A 9 inch and 12 inch respectively. & 2 Oaktober fest beers which were so amazing and cold and perfect with the pizza. Now, when the pizza came out, I was amazed. They were STACKED with toppings. You literally couldn't see the cheese below it bc there was so much toppings. Once we grabbed a slice and but into it, omg HEAVEN. There's more than enough cheese to keep all the toppings in place. Just enough sauce and the dough is out if this world. Crispy on the bottom & crust but the rest of it was like a soft cloud of bread (not to be confused with soggy) Long story short, hands down, some of the best pizza in Austin and my new go to place for pizza! read more

I just moved to a new duplex and it's right around the corner from this place. I noticed it a few weeks back and I finally made it in yesterday. I won't lie, I was nervous pulling up because the lot was pretty empty. But I got in there and the staff was super friendly and happy to explain the concept. My buddy and I split the large bbq chicken pizza and each had a couple beers. The pizza was really good, great flavor and I enjoyed the style of crust. Decent selection of beer and the best part was how friendly everyone was. I walked out this place with a smile on my face and I sure hope others will give it a try and make it successful. read more

This is my favorite pizza place in Austin. The salads are delicious and eating this pizza feels healthier than most pizza (lots of veggies, which I love). I've always found the staff here friendly and hard working - nothing beats service with a smile, which is consistent here. I've never had any issues with my order and always enjoy the "view" of the plane flying over ATX. I come here whenever I have a craving for pizza. It's our solid go-to pizza joint. We typically end up with the South Austin pizza - it's pretty stellar. We often eat there as the beer selection is pretty good (as is the soda - honestly, I don't drink soda, but the brand they have is very tasty, I'm usually stealing sips from my kids.) and the outdoor patio is surprisingly nice for it's location. We've also ordered pizza to go and it's always ready (and right) when we get there. Outside of pizza: we really love their BLT. Their salads are generous and have good ingredients - I think my one tiny complaint is the salad dressing isn't as good as I think it should be. Enjoy! read more
