A must stop if you're in the area. Great for families to stretch their legs on a road trip. There's an outdoor "Zoo" to visit the animals. If you're hungry you can grab a roasted ear of corn. There are many treats to grab and go. Jams, pies, fresh produce all in a charming environment. My only disappointment is there aren't any savory items to grab and go, which seems like a missed revenue opportunity. I was hoping to grab a sandwich cold or to go salad. If there was a small space dedicated for the customer looking for a quick healthy meal to go, I think it would be a welcome addition to an already wonderful spot.

Just do yourself a favor and grab a cookie. Ohmuhgoodness! SO yummy! This little stop was a treat for us on our way from staying in Pismo over to Avila. It's on a very convenient road so easy to stop in on our way in or out of town. There were yard games, animals, a tractor ride, and shop. We had the corn (great!) and picked up some fruit to take back to our hotel. But seriously... The peanut butter cookies! YUM! We especially appreciated how open this space was and how much there was to see. Had we come with the kids, they would have loved it also! Everyone we came into contact with was super kind. Can't wait to go back one day when we're back in the area!

If you're in the area, stop by Gopher Glen Apple Stand! They've got all the fruit, all the pies--everything is fresh and delicious. I've got to make a stop there soon!. CHITO and Biff was here!

Oh, I love this place. I've been taking my daughter here since she was a little and even at seventeen she still wants to come back. Our favorite activity is feeding those rascal goats some delicious lettuce. We also stopped in for strawberries (SO GOOD), cherries, pastries, and a special stop into their sweet shop for some AMAZING strawberry shortcake. Can't wait to come back again! Such great people working here too, so friendly and welcoming.

Ice cream shop, farmers market, and tractor pickup; and very few peoole compared with a decade ago - this would have been been crowded.

This is a wondeful place to take kids for an experience to fed some farm animals and ride a flatbed pulled by a tracktor (free) to pick seasional fruit in a field - a awsome. The the HomeGoods area is awesome and has it changed? They have lots of jams, pickles etc and kitchen goods and a wonderful toy area with old fashioned toys. A decade-+ ago there was a great vegetable and fruit farmers market with fair prices, but the vegies are mostly gone and limited fruits, though the lattet i think are local and fresh in season. The bakery is still there with the same great beaked goods. However, it seema like prices are 20% marked up -28-30$ a pie, roasted ear of corn 6$ and a sandwich at the snackbar is 20$!! The was a wonderful huge ice cream bar and fresh candy counter and that has been remodeled, one it tiny now and the other gone - mostly an empty space now. Way to expensive for locals now overall, clearly now a tourist trap, sadly. On a weekend this was packed in the past; have to assume prices now exclude locals.

Today was the perfect day to visit this adorable little place. They have a cute barn where you can buy small cups of food for just a few dollars to feed the animals, which is perfect for children. The kids absolutely love interacting with the animals. They also offer hay rides that last about 10 minutes, which adds to the fun farm experience. There's a huge shop filled with local honey, homemade pies, fresh fruits and vegetables, and lots of cute little items you can purchase. One of my favorite treats was the roasted corn. You can load it up with mayonnaise, chili powder, Tajín, and butter -- it's absolutely delicious. They also have the cutest candy and ice cream shop, and the ice cream was really good. If you've never been here, you definitely have to check it out, especially if you have kids. It's a fun, charming place that makes for a great family outing.

The animals and overall aesthetic here are great! We had such a fun day should our daughter around. So many animals to feed and see. You can purchase lettuce in the barn to feed to the animals. The barn had so many options and so many different treats and souvenirs you can take home. The only downside was when we were checking out with nobody else in line, our cashier Alondra made it seem like we were such an inconvenience to her. We felt extremely rushed and it threw off the entire vibe of the whole place. Seemed like such a family friendly environment until we encountered that experience.

Avila barn will always have my heart, I have been coming here my entire life and for the first time I was able to bring my 1 year old to experience this special place. She loved the animals and atmosphere! We had a great time until we stopped in the store to buy items: Alondra was the cashier and she was rude and kept trying to rush me through the transaction. There was no one in line behind me and I was looking around really quick to buy some jerky and honey sticks which were at the register. She acted like we were so inconvenient to her when she was standing there doing nothing. Wish we had a different cashier but besides that everything else was wonderful!

It's always such a special treat to come visit Avila Barn!!! They have good food / treats, farm animals to visit, and other fun activities like apple picking and hay rides. It's a good place to come with your family or friends or even a date. I always make sure to get a cup of apple cider when I visit. They also have really good corn, sandwiches, and ice cream. There is also a shop that is full of goodies to purchase. The staff does a good job keeping it tidy with how busy it can get. When I used to live in the area I used to come quite often, but now that I live in Los Angeles it's extra special to come here!

Avila Valley Barn is my one must stop in the central coast- the animals, fresh produce, fruit, made to order meals, seasonal offerings, pies, market, shop... Staff is generally helpful and friendly- the barn is typically busy, meaning the staff are also busy. Parking is a dirt lot, if it rains, there's mud- it's a barn/farm- wear proper footwear. They offer train rides seasonally, Christmas trees, pumpkins etc. It's a nice farm experience, weather is usually nice. Market is laid out well, they even have a children's section for gifts. Feeding the animals is the absolute best.

Color me a Believer! The reviews on Avila Valley Barn were spot on. I've been to various farms and pumpkin patches over the years, but this was the coolest farm I've ever been to! And definitely the first I've ever been compelled to write a review about... The grounds are very well taken care of with ample parking, clean bathrooms, and a neat farmer's market to buy fresh produce. Best $3 bucks ever for a head of lettuce to see the gleeful smiles of my kids feeding the goats and donkeys :) My 4-year old daughter had the time of her life riding a pony for the first time, and we loved watching every second of it as well. To top it off, there was an old-fashioned ice cream parlor inside, her favorite dessert! During a time when the world can seem a bit crazy, Avila Valley Barn was a welcome feast of simple pleasures. Thank you for the wonderful memories from our family!

When do they start their pumpkin patch? Trying to plan a trip in Aug/ September

Their website says the pumpkin patch is open September & October. Hayrides are listed as being available May through October, as well.

    Are you open on Christmas?

Does disgraced senator Ted Cruz and family own Avila Valley Barn?

WTF?!? Check out the website and get info about the family that owns it Karen (and it's not Ted Cruz) 🙄

Can you feed animals during covid?

    Yes

    Are dogs allowed?

Yes! Dogs are allowed around the farm, and goats, just not in the small market.

Are they open on rainy days?

    Yes they are!

How much are their cooked pies, such as apple?

I don't recall the specific price, but they are not on the low end (ie, cheap). It seems they are in the $20-22 range if I recall correctly.

Until when will there be the pumpkin patch?

    Are they open on thanksgiving?

No. They are closed Thanksgiving, December 24th-26th, New Years Day, Easter and July 4th.

Yes, they do sell fruits and vegetables, but the main product here is Hot Pepper Jelly…read more I don't know why they call it "jelly", the texture is more like jam or marmalade with seeds and chunks of pepper flesh in it. And it is definitely not a sauce or paste, so it does not incorporate easily into room temperature liquids (like oil, vinegar, soy sauce, etc.). It is more like a "spread", so you need a little force to spread it. Another cooking option is to dissolve this jelly into hot oil (like stir fry). In fact, I recommend using their jelly in spicy stir fry. Afterglow looks like orange marmalade. It has citrus note, also. I use it for shrimp or chicken stir fry. It is made mostly of habanero pepper. Sting & Linger is made of mostly ghost pepper. I use it for beef or pork stir fry. Its spiciness kicks in slowly and stays and stays. Tastes smokey. Each jar is $8 at the time of this writing.

This operation is family owned and operated since 2001, and has a pretty good selection of locally grown fruit and veggies, depending on the season. BEST thing is the prices!! The prices here are generally 50% to 75% better than supermarket prices, depending on what you get. I have been shopping here twice a week for a few months now, and have never yet been disappointed in the quality of their produce. Their friendly service just adds more to the experience, especially if you speak Spanish. They have a variety of stone fruit, such as plums, pluots, peaches, apricots, as well as avocados. They have cauliflower, broccoli, celery, corn, watermelons, and the list goes on. If your Spanish is a bit rusty, come by on Sundays, when Martha, one of the owners' nieces is there. She is a nurse during the week, and her English is perfect. ALL of the family members who work there are friendly and helpful. Even though they are open 7 days from about 8 AM til about 5 PM, I have found that the best days are Wed. and Sun. Do not be afraid to ask if they have fresher specimens of what is on display, they will fetch stuff from the large walk-in fridges, or even let you do that, if you have a mind to freeze a bit! Big plus, they also carry fresh made guacomole, chips, honey, Mexican candies and salsa. I submit to you that it doesn't get any better than this...really!
