It's a really great farm stand with more produce behind the store front. Just walk in further to explore! I am not sure why Yelp noted that this offers validated parking. You just park in the dirt so it's free to park! We were passing by and wanted to pick up some fresh strawberries. They were the best strawberries that I've had this summer season! Saw this place on Friday as my husband just kept on going when I said that looks fun.... Made my way over there by me self on way to beach the next day. So glad I did! Grabbed a bunch of veggies to cook for dinner and makings for salad. Made sure to get fresh strawberries and cherries to eat while enjoying my day at the beach. Couldn't resist picking up some of their house made dressings and hot sauces. This is a place I could stock up on condiments and use for myself and fun gifts. They managed to upsell me from one basket of berries and cherries to three baskets of each; I'm the only one that will eat so I'm indulging. This place is really cute with parking out front and directly on highway one (1) near several farms. They are open daily from 10am to 5:30pm and have all your produce needs. My roommate wanted to get some phresh berries and avocados and couldn't wait for Thursdays farmer's market in SLO so we came here on a warm Sunday afternoon. The space is small, yet clean and well stocked. They are known for their strawberries and flowers, but carry everything from dressings and vinaigrettes to jellies, preserves, organic nuts, several kinds of honey and phresh vegetables. . Prices here are much better than your local grocer. You get more bang for your buck with fruit baskets starting at $4 and avocados under $2. Being in a heavy Latino community, most fruit stand owners/workers here speak mostly Spanish and thus did not make a serious effort to converse with us so it's best to practice simple Spanish phrases to interact and build rapport with the employees. . If you're on the road in the central coast and want healthy snacks that don't cost an arm and a leg, stop here. I love Hayashi's stand on PCH I also like to visit them at the farmers market on Wednesday morning located in the smart n final shopping center on grand ave. I wasn't prepared for what I wanted to buy today when I visited the stand I usually bring my own reusable canvas bag or a another box. It was a spontaneous stop for goods. I love that I'm so fortunate to live so close to such wonderful farmers. Last week I left a tip and I was surprised with a song and dance!!! Absolutely beautiful fruit. We stopped by twice in our one week in the Pismo area and both times got big, juicy berries and perfectly ripe apricots. I got blueberries, raspberries, strawberries, apricots, and blackberries. I don't even like blackberries but these were good! They were having trouble with the credit card service but were working on it while I was there the second time. The woman at the counter gave me the information to pay using Venmo which made my life much easier. All the people working there were friendly and helpful. If I lived closer I would be in there at least twice a week. read more

It is a good thing that I have continued to stop by here periodically, on different months, over the past few years, since they do indeed carry local produce, when it is in season. It also helps to ask what is local since it may or may not be labeled. Today, in the fall, they had an abundance of all kinds of local fruits and veges. Some prices are quite reasonable, such as for Pumpkins or corn. Therefore, I am now a fan of this little stand. While they had nice berries, no matter where you shop now, the only cost effective local berries are Strawberries. They are now a seasonal stand and grow quite a bunch of produce in the fields in the back. Since most things are ripe and at the end of the season, you can find good deals on produce in lots of places. This place also does carry the very hard to find fresh Garlic whole cloves from Gilroy. While not cheap, they are far superior to the Garlic that may be from China in some supermarkets. Hayashi's also has a line of canned goods and some other items. While I hit many of the local stands [e.g. Rutiz] and better local Farmer's Markets in some of the surrounding towns [i.e. Arroyo Grande on Sat. noon; Madonna Plaza in SLO @ 8AM; Los Osos/Baywood Mon. from 2-4PM; etc.], you never know what & where you might find more unusual items such as raisins drying on the stem, Passion fruit, Asian Pears, Concord Grapes, Shitake Mushrooms, and more, unless you look around. Hayashi's has a wide range of products and is generally far better than what can be found at Whole Paycheck market for example. It also is a part of a nice drive in either the farmlands or more rural areas. It is also on the way to the fascinating town of Guadalupe & beyond via Hwy #1. read more

This is one of my favorite local farmstands!! Their staff is super friendly and always have great suggestions on the best items!! My go to are the strawberries! I always grab a 3 pack of them and the blackberries as well! They are delish and so fresh!!!! Every once in a while they have amazing cherries and veggies too! Prices are not as bad either, comparable prices to vons but these fruits are much better than the ones at the local grocery stores. As far as parking goes.. it's less busy during the week, and make sure not to go too late in the day. The traffic piles up on Halcyon right by the stand and is only dirt parking, so no one is parking any certain way-- which can be a challenge if someone blocks your view to the road. As far as COVID guidelines.. they are outside but still ask you wear a mask, and the staff picks out the fruit or veggies for you, but you're allowed to walk in and look to see what they have. Which is good.. it limits the amount of hands that touch your food. Their staff wears masks and gloves and are very good to only have one person taking payments. Which they allow for cash and card payments (not all local farm stand stands take Cc). So all in all.. I most definitely recommend stopping here to support local businesses and to fill your belly with fresh, delicious eats!! read more

I happened to stumble upon this family fruit stand on my drive to Monterey. I was blown away but how flavorful all the vegetables and fruit tasted. The strawberries are by far the best strawberries I've had stateside. They aren't sour or hard like the ones you usually get at the market. The strawberries from Hayashi was so similar to the ones I used to eat as a child in Japan. It almost makes me wonder if they brought seeds back from Japan to grow here. Amazing! Sooo much selection and the owner is so sweet! The location is super easy to access. Parking is alongside the farm stand on Highway 1. They are currently packing the produce for you to reduce the risk of COVID, which I thought was awesome. The girl that was bagging my stuff was not friendly, but the owner made up for it. There are so many options...fruit, veggies, flowers, nuts, etc. The prices were super fair and they even will have little specials on certain items. This is a nice little farm with quite a bit of options available. They grow their own fruits and vegetables. Their strawberries looked so good that I took some home. They were sweeter & Juicier than what you would find at the supermarket. A half crate was $14 which is pretty reasonable. I've been to Hayashi numerous times, it's on my usual route. More often than not I get home wishing I'd gone somewhere else like the grocery store, or driven further to another produce stand. I find my interaction with the staff generally not pleasant. They're not usually helpful about what's being sold, going as far as giving poor advice because they don't know an answer. I've been charged different prices than what's marked. They have a tendency to hide berry baskets with bad fruit. They hover over you and don't let you check what you're buying, as they say, because of Covid. I'd prefer not having to check if past experience didn't prompt me to do so. Go to Okui's 5 mins down the road for fruit. Their vegetables are decent, however, not better quality or price than you'd find local elsewhere. This last visit, I really had it. Being charged more than what's marked and being duped by the berry baskets again. I don't do small frequent trips but rather 1-2 bigger trips a month. For what I paid at Hayashi, I found I should just subscribe to a produce box, even with the shipping. I just signed up for Talley Farms Box. I hear great things about what Hayashi used to be. That hasn't been my experience. read more

I don't find the staff as friendly here as at other stands. They don't seem knowledgeable about where their produce comes from and when I asked "what's perfectly ripe today?" I was told, "it's all about the same." That just doesn't sell me?! The few things I have picked up from here haven't tasted great and some of them (strawberries and peaches) ended up being overripe or even rotting within a few days so definitely carefully check the whole basket of what you purchase from here! It seemed like they were hiding the older fruit under the newer stuff. The stand is in a location that is convenient for many people passing by to stop, however, it can be tricky getting out of there once your parked. After looking, and trying, several other stands we have settled on this long established (15 years +) stand. Why? The corn is fresh, the blueberries arrive every Friday and are great! Strawberries, cherries, nectarines (yellow and white) are here. The downside is the prices are not particularly cheap compared to the supermarkets, and you do have to scrutinize what you purchase (common sense) but if you are a picky/choosy consumer, you will enjoy this farm to table stand! read more

I stopped this past Tuesday for some strawberries and got a 3 pack for $6. I dropped them off at home and ran my son down to his tee ball practice. When we got home he dove into the strawberries - they were good, but only the ones on the top. The ones on the bottom looked a bit old. I figured it wasn't a big deal because we eat strawberries very quickly, so I stuck them in the fridge. After work the very next day as I'm getting a few to wash I noticed a lot of them were growing mold. What!!?!?!?! Not cool sticking such old strawberries at the bottom - I won't be back here for strawberries...too many other fruit stands I've visited don't do that to you.
