We picked up our rental car on a Thursday morning right when they opened at 8am. This location is…read moreon Canal Street and is the same place as Budget Car Rental (they're owned by the same parent company). When we were going through the pickup process, the representative asked for proof of insurance which was not typically our experience when getting a rental car. We got that sorted out but then later the credit cards wouldn't work on the machine so he tried another register and then it worked. This whole process took longer than we would've liked but we got here early expecting delays. We filled up gas at the Chevron station nearby before coming back. After we dropped off the car and were in the process of paying, they accidentally charged us for gas assuming we didn't fill up the tank. Eventually the representative was able to fix this and refunded us the gas amount charged and then we were on our way. There were a couple hiccups during our experience but they were eventually ironed out with some time and patience. It also helped that the workers were friendly and were knowledgeable and experienced in resolving issues. Everyone's experiences vary at places like these but I can say for us, the pickup and drop-off processes were smooth for the most part.

It took me 45 minutes to have the car delivered. Advice: don't offer that service, if you can't do it efficiently. It generally takes less than 5 minutes to walk to the car. It got worse. The battery on a 2026 hybrid died, and they wanted to charge $173 for a jump! The explanation was that I didn't pay for roadside assistance insurance. My take: a ne w car should have a good battery, and, given that modern cars don't let you forget to turn off the lights, plus I'd driven during the day. So I had it jumped, drove 20 minutes to make sure the battery was charged, checked out of the hotel, and... the battery was dead again. It took 6 hours to get a tow, for which they wanted to charge $319. At this point, they need to refund the rental. I am serious about this, even if work is paying.

Instead, when I arrived at the location, I was told they did not have any cars available and that I would have to be placed on a waiting list. That is completely unacceptable considering I had already prepaid in full. If you take someone's money months ahead of time, there should absolutely be a car reserved for them. What makes this even worse is that I was never contacted beforehand to let me know there was an issue with my reservation. I only found out after arriving at the location, wasting my time and completely disrupting my travel plans. The staff offered no real solution, and when I called Budget customer service, I was told there were no one-way rentals available anywhere else either. Because of Budget's lack of professionalism and poor planning, I will never use Budget again after this experience.

Because we never received a vehicle, we had to cancel our plans. This was one of the worst customer service experiences I've had.
