The fleet seems to be getting upgrades, and in addition to the Altimas, they have a few nicely appointed Toyota Avalons as well. I was also informed that they were about to get another fleet refresh, so maybe this National location is looking up. I'm also happy about the personalized service. The car I was taking out had some dings on it, and I went looking around the parking lot for a staffer, and came upon the guy who does all the car damage assessment, who assured me that the cameras would capture anything in or out, but made sure to annotate my reservation booklet appropriately. Best of all still is the "local fuel option", because as I'd said in my previous review, if you rent from here, you're probably going to Bentonville or Rogers, and you can choose an under-100 mile rental fuel option, and National will charge you a flat $12.95. You could probably do better at a local gas station, but with so many flights leaving at 6AM, it's nice to have it as an option. I actually look forward to coming back here. Let's see what the next visit brings.

There was no one stationed at the garage to whom we could report existing damage to the car (there was some bumper damage we wanted to make sure was recorded). We've rented a fair number of cars in our day and this experience struck us as totally out of the ordinary. It took us three phone calls and a total of over 1 hour wait time to actually talk to someone and get it recorded. When we arrived back at the airport, there were literally no spots available to park in that were allocated for Dollar cars. And once again, no one on duty. Thankfully, someone finally showed up and gave the most casual once-over of our car. We did get a great deal for the rental, but this Dollar location can certainly do better in a number of areas.

After having rented there, I can see why. On renting, my Blue Chip profile fills everything out normally, so I can just grab my keys and go. Here? I had to go through all the paperwork of everyone else, and listen to the agent's list of upsell requests ("Did you want the insurance? did you want to buy a tank of gas?" No, woman, because it's in my Blue Chip profile.) When I get to the car in sub-freezing weather, across a parking lot from every other rental company's fleet, I find a car with all sorts of scratches and dings. (Luckily, they had been documented). Plus, I can't find the ice scraper. And there's no one around to ask. Hell, I'll just buy one. I later found the ice scraper hidden on the rear deck lid... you couldn't see it because of the sheet of ice on the back windshield. Great location, folks :-) Upon return at 6 a.m., the branch was still closed. No problem -- I've done this a million times. I'll just drop the keys and contract in the lockbox, and get the receipt online. Except it's not online. For two days. I finally call Thrifty, who tells me I have to call XNA. I call XNA, and they're all, "Oh! You wanted a receipt?!" *sigh* Avoid, avoid, avoid.

Sometimes, as in this case, their car sizing is a little off. I booked a Nissan Altima Coupe .. thinking hey, a little couple/sportiness would be nice for the long weekend. When I get there, they say that car is basically non-existent in industry, so they usually just upgrade you to the next class. How in the world do I for from a Nissan Altima to getting a damn Chevy Cruze?!?! I definitely should have been bumped up a class to something larger than a hamster car. I guess that's the worst part about renting ... your rentals are seldom as nice as your own vehicle. :(

I advised the staff member that Enterprise Rental on J street quoted a fair rate because the car is having repairs done through an insurance claim and the staff member stated "We do not give discounts regardless". He greeted each passenger as we exited the plane and wished us a great evening. Some might say that's not that big of a deal. My perspective is at 11:45 PM at night. That's a really big deal. He had a great attitude. He was thoughtful and he was doing his best to put customers first and greet people to welcome them to their destination and wish them a great evening and weekend. I was very impressed.

I fly pretty much weekly and there always seems to be an issue. What is really upsetting is they know the flight is delayed and they wait to tell customers until the last minute. United uses every excuse in the book for why they can't be on time or why they have to cancel. Get it together United!
