Beware of ridiculous cleaning charges!!!!!!!! We returned the car over 4th of July weekend upon using it for a few days. We rented the car from the Avis Santa Clara location and returned to Folsom. We received a letter in the mail 3 weeks later informing us of a $450 charge for smoke. We never smoked in the car and returned the car in decent condition. We were vacationing with family and have 2 young kids and no one is a smoker in the family. We disputed the charge and were informed there was "nothing they could do." Upon further research, we read that Avis charges bogus "cleaning" charges if cars are not returned "spotless". The car was not overly clean to begin with and the biggest thing we failed to do was document everything, although can't documenting supposed smoke smell. My recommendation AVOID Avis all together. We will never return. We are frequent travelers and have never encountered these issues. Ridiculous!!! Worse rental car experience ever and would give 0 stars if I could. read more

This is a family owned business and I discovered this jewel a few years ago. I would not go anywhere else to rent a car and I hate to even post this review to draw attention to the place but they deserve it. We rent cars frequently for trips so I've used a lot of car rental companies in the greater Sacramento area over the years. Here they are super friendly and always make doing business a pleasure. I also use my Costco membership which gives me a major discount on rental cars. One of the reviews on here says something about their beds...So somebody gave a bad review to the wrong business. Seriously? If someone is going to take the time to knock a business, at least make sure you have the right one. read more

Service is terrible, fully furnished queen bed in back looks equally questionable and comfortable. Chose this location/company because they're walking distance from my house. A big plus in making it easy to pick up/drop off the car. The first time I rented a car with this location they gave me an upgrade because they "didn't have enough clean cars". No issues until later when I get back in the car and realize it smells HEAVILY of smoke. I didn't notice at first because I was just in a hurry to get going and they were taking FOREVER just to get me out to the car. I prepaid before getting there thinking it would save time, it did NOT. It still too forty-five, FORTY-FIVE, minutes. Fast forward to me returning the car. Well, I can't. Why you ask? Well, because I arrived at 1pm on Sunday. What time do they close on Sunday? Oh, they close at 1:30pm on Sundays. But wait, that means I was there thirty minutes before closing! You got it. They closed early with no warning, and no "late" drop off option. I called corporate and they offered the worst customer experience I've ever had. When I arrived the next day to drop the car off, the employee INSISTED he was there until 1:30pm until I showed him PHOTOS with time markings showing that he, in fact, was NOT there. A few weeks later, I decided to rent again. I figured I'd give them another chance mostly because, again, convenience of location. The second experience was just as horrible. After an HOUR wait (I'm the only customer there), we finally walk out to get in the car and open the door and we are SLAPPED in the face with the thick cloud of cigarette smoke coming from the car. I had an infant traveling with me, I'm not about to expose a CHILD to some ignorant adult asshole's poor choices so I requested another car. Well, what do you know, there aren't any other clean cars. So my options were a dirty car filled with someone else trash or a smoke car filled with someone else's ignorant life choice. The trash filled car was the clear choice. This is just the actual rental experience. The actual space? There's a queen size bed in the back. I don't even know where to begin with that. Overall, just don't. Save yourself a lot of time and money and choose another company. This place is worthless. read more

DO NOT GIVE THIS PLACE YOUR BUSINESS. I would give them a zero if I could. When I picked up the car it was filthy and grungy inside like no one has ever cleaned it. Also smelled of cigarette smoke and did not appear that it has been serviced in awhile. So bad, I had to clean the car myself. When I returned the car, I did not realized that my wallet had fallen out of my purse. They called me about an hour later. Went right down and of course all my money and credit cards were missing. Amazing thing, is that I was going to give the guy some money for calling me so he caused himself a lot of trouble because I filed a police report and reporting him to Avis corporate. He tried to blame it on the cleaning guy, but the manager/owner looked guilty and could not look me in the eye. read more

My reservation was for 1 week at $201 and change. I brought the car in a day early and the guy hands me a receipt without explain the charges. $347! He charged me more for bringing in the car early plus $37 for gas even though I brought it back at the same amount I left with (3/4 tank). The guy working that Sunday (6/17) said, "The computer does it automatically. It's my job to check in the cars". It took a lengthy phone call to their 800-number to get amount on my reservation charged to my card. Be very careful when renting from this location. read more

If you've seen my other posts you'll know 4 is as high as I go unless my hair blows away from the amazing experience... (5 is like playing golf at pebble beach). I rent from avis for business no less than 10 times a year and the one time I needed them for personal reasons I chose this local Avis branch. Its located in the Dodge dealership in a small corner, but who cares.. The guy running the desk was likely the entrepreneur running the local market. +service was great. The guy was super nice +I got a car that got me from a to b safely, reliably, and was clean and brand new +the price and availability were perfect for me I will go back anytime I have a need around here. read more

Terrible customer service! Shady business! Charged me for 75 miles of gas when I only drove to my house and back (about 15 miles total). Tank was full when I got it. I didn't fill before bringing back, which was fine. I was willing to to pay for 1 gallon of use at $8. But to get charged $38. I called AVIS and the lady just basically said too bad. Computer shows usage of 75 miles. Nothing I can do for you. I'm a returning customer to the Dodge dealership for over 15 years, which is where this AVIS is located. I use them to get a rental car when my car is being serviced. Never again! They just lost my business over $30. Wasn't even offered a partial refund. It's not the money I'm concerned about, it's the customer service. I know, everyone reading this is probably saying that it's my fault for not getting a receipt with mileage usage on it (true), but I'm extremely busy and don't want to wait around for an inspection and paperwork to be filled out. I just feel as a returning customer, that if something like this comes up, I wouldn't be treated as a liar and my future business would be secured by offering a refund or something. Could have been honest mistake on their part. No one is perfect and I never expect everything to go as planned every time, but I consider this a major failure for customer service. read more

Never have I been treated so awfully, not only by the staff, but also by the Avis Customer Service. Okay. Where to start off. The 100% guarantee the car will be smoke free: 100% lie. The Kia (that almost broke down passing Truckee) reeked of smoke. I left a a shirt in there for twenty minutes and it smelled like I just got off a smoke break. The attendant most likely knew the car had this problem, which was probably why she gave us the "compact" deal instead of the actual deal I originally had. Problem two: she messed with my res so much, And muffed with the cost, saying she was lowering the price... then tells my dad "wouldn't you like to have peace of mind your daughter has insurance and she'll be safe?" Raised the price by $88. She also talked him into changing the res, placing it in his name when I was going to be driving it. Big mistake when I tried to get the car exchanged before leaving for a business trip at 4:00am. (I got the car the afternoon before). Found out I couldn't do it without the primary on the res. Customer service on the phone told me differently, they said I could. Just go down, they'll smell it and they'll exchange it. Drove down to the Fulton location where they told me I couldn't do anything. When I called to see what else I could do, customer service and the attendant just gave me NO help. At all. I get an hour into my drive and get a huge migraine. Lasted all till Utah. And again on the way back. Had to drive to the ER, I couldn't see straight (I have other medical problems but smoke sets it off). Problem 3!: I get gas RIGHT BEFORE dropping it off. Filled it up. She has the NERVE to tell me it wasn't filed. Would you like me to helicopter the car in so it's EXACTLY FULL??! Thank you, Avis. For giving me so much stress dealing with you. And mind-numbing headache, and clothes that REEK of smoke. And a new ER visit to put on my list! OH! So furious, I'm fuming. I used to like you. BEWARE, they will charge you msic fees and send you out in a rental car with only 3000 miles on it that breaks down in San Jose. The San Jose Avis exchanged the car but the person they sent was verrrrrry rude. When we didn't get our belongings out of the car during my grandson's 4th birthday party the San Jose Avis guy threw our belongings on the ground and was quite rude in attitude. they charged us for insurance which we declined because we have car rental insurance through our american express.card automatically when we rent a car. We went through costco travel, were quoted 81.08, and this avis location charged us 193.10. Scott at the Folsom location has been helpful in getting us 84.34 refunded but we still paid 27.08 over and above what we were quoted in misc fees. We rent from Budget typically and have never ever had a car break down on us or been charged anything other than what we were quoted. The only reason we chose Avis was that it was a convenient location. In hindsight the 8 miles to Budget would have been well worth the "inconvenience". Never again will I use this Avis location or Avis period. Sticking with Budget. read more

I have been coming here for a few years and have always loved their service and knew what to expect with reservations and rentals. I showed up for my reservation on June 27th at 5:00 PM. I was stressed because I had planned a huge trip with my family to see my grandfather in AZ who was dying and this would be the last time I would be able to see him, but I remained cheerful with the front desk lady. She was pretty rude to me when I pulled out a prepaid card to pay and basically said they don't accept "those kind" of cards. Okay fine, I use it as a DD card and can transfer it shortly to my bank account. Then I was told that I would need to provide a $300 deposit to take the car. I planned a trip to drive because my family and I were really tight on cash and needed to see our family member before his death, so a flying wasn't an option for us at the time. Anyways, I was not informed of this and I have never had to leave one before, but the woman was completely unhelpful, didn't have any options for me, and just stood there looking at me like "what do you want?"; So, I just walked out and left. An hour before I was supposed to go pick up my uncle and mom and head to AZ, I now realize I have no rental car for the trip. I ended up taking my car that has expired registration (They expired in May and I had put it off so I could go see my grandfather) and ended up getting a $100 ticket along the way for expired tags. I don't blame them for that, but I really wish I had known about the deposit so I could have planned accordingly. Frankly, I have always gone here for trip rentals, but after this experience, I will be taking my business elsewhere. I left feeling embarrassed, stressed, and completely helpless at a time that was already an emotionally difficult time for me. The manager here, Scott, really takes care of the customers. One time I booked a car rental through Avis's website. The website allowed booking a car rental which had a return date on July 4th, but a few days before the car rental, I called this Avis location to confirm the reservation. It turned out that the website just did not have this information, and that this location would be closed on that day. Scott allowed the car to be returned the following day, free of charge. I've reserved rental cars at this location multiple times because of the great service that I get. The workers here alway follow up with what they say, and make sure the customers have a great experience. read more
