I pick this Avis location due to the pick up and drop off times. They also close at 1am which is another plus, however you have to be careful when dropping your car off here. I've been charged twice for a late fee for car rentals I brought back by the drop off time. I will say they are very good about accommodating me for rental upgrades due to my Avis presidential status. The Avis Prefer counter is normally closed when I pick my cars up but they were open this night. You also have to be careful with the electric cars, they don't tell you if the car you're picking up is a gas or electric car. Which I feel is very important decision on what the person is renting the car for. I only recommend renting from location if you're picking up or dropping off outside of normal Avis business hours.

Rental cars, nation wide, are subject to the level of care that the renters have in stiff that will be used by others (i.e. consideration of others). Well, you don't need special glasses to note that in this day and age, every single person is totally out for themselves, and themselves only. So, you'll have to just (sadly) expect and assume your rental car is going to have been beat up. And yea, sadly, because remember about 2-3 decades ago when rental cars were actually "nice"? Like it was fun to rent cars. The newest models, well taken care of ... sort of like a preview for a car you might want to buy. Anyways... people today are the worst and they treat things they own terribly - so imagine how they treat something they don't own? I had no choice but to use Avis. I typically use BUDGET, and have had decent results with them here in KCMO, but I travel (and rent cars) on behalf of the Government and the Government required lowest logical costs when selecting hotels, flights, cars etc. This trip, after having completed 6 other trips here quarterly... AVIS out of nowhere was the lowest logical cost. So I had no choice but to use them. I arrive at airport, grab bags then head over to Avis. Now then, I have to select "intermediate", again, lowest fare, but I already know for a fact intermediate is small - like they also have compact and sub compact categories, right? But a Toyota Corolla (yea the TINY Corolla), is considered intermediate... so wtf is a compact???? Anyways... I know this is too small because as usual, 3 of us (all adult men with 1-2 bags each) had to share the one car. So I explain to counter, hey guys I can't reserve any higher than intermediate, but can I get something bigger due to situation? The Avis counter was not even acknowledging my request. They kept just repeating "you reserved an intermediate sir". Ok cool. Toyota Corolla it is. I go to get the car, way out in the lot (not in the covered section where the "fancy" sedans and SUVs that definitely were available were. And as soon as I get in the car, it hits me - SMOKE. Dang it. Nothing worse than that stale smoke smell. And then, as I decided "whatever - I'll just have the lady note it on my way out"... the lady on the way out didn't even ask me for the initial inspection and just waived me through from her little movie watching shack. I had also noticed, and lends to the smoke smell, to giant perfectly round holes in the front seat. Burn holes at that. So I exited, made a left, and turned right back into the return. At the return, I showed the guy the burns, had him verify the smell, and we noted the car was missing fluids (like no wiper fluid at all). And he was like my gosh so sorry - go get another car. Went back inside, now having had to unload my luggage again, and went back to desk, waited in line again, and started over. Same guy even - so I'm like sure - he will remember me from 10 minutes ago, he will feel bad on behalf of Avis for giving me a car that was unfit for service, and now he will give me a car or suv I need to accommodate my colleagues and I. I mean, I didn't make up the smell, the fact it didn't even have fluids, or the burn marks (and I sure was not going to be put into a situation where I was charged for that)... but when I got to counter and explained it, and had the Return clerk verify it - the same guy didn't even apologize, but instead kept insisting "you reserved an intermediate sir". I was like wow - not even a "sorry I have you a car that was damaged" - NOTHING. So, back to the intermediate I go. This time, HONDA HR-V. Even smaller somehow than the Corolla. And wow - I feel as if whomever had it last, stuck their index fingers in a small jar or honey, and then stuck it in a small jar of Vaseline, and then proceeded to use said index finger to touch of single button in the entire vehicle. And then just to make sure we knew of their or presence, they added water spots and sandy / linty / dusty shavings to every single piece of plastic and cup holder etc - again, people don't care at all about you; only them. So, why give Avis a 1-star because someone else dirtied the car? For one, because of the service provided as mentioned above. And two, I mean, CLEAN THE DANG CAR AVIS!!!! Wtf!?!?? I'm really displeased with (people) and Avis At Kansas City International Airport

Thumbs down for this location.

I'm super disappointed in this location. We had a rental car reservation and they are supposed to be open until 2am. We showed up at 1:56am (our plane was delayed) and lo and behold, the people decided to close up shop early. So here we are, with three young children, staying "the night" in the rental car facility without a car. All customer service at their 1888 number said was, "we can't help you. You'll have to wait until the location opens back up at 7:30am". Yup that sounds like a grand time with three kids in the middle of the night to do. Ridiculous. If you say you're going to be open until 2am, then stay open until 2am. Also-- see image for the false advertisement. It says you can scan the QR code to pick your car, skip the counter, no contact and express exit from the lot. Lies, lies, lies. I went through the process and it says "now go to the counter and the customer service rep will have to give you your keys". How is this considered "no counters" or "no contact"?!?

I've been having a lot of issues with Avis recently but this rental went perfectly. I was assigned a Kia Forte but the app let me switch cars. One of the options was a free upgrade to a Genesis, Hyundai's equivalent to Toyota's Lexus. It was a great ride. Just be aware when leaving the lot that it may take a while if they're busy. Avis hasn't quite figured out checking people out in a timely manner yet.

Always long lines at the rental counter but at least there were about 3 people. Rates are great, you get to choose which car based on the category you rented. Their compact car was a Kia and it wasn't compact at all for my needs - clean, no smoke fine odor or sweaty sucks odor even with linen car seats. The car I rented already had 100k miles but ran fine without no issues and good mileage per gallon. Car return was also smooth.

As far as Hertz was concerned, I had completed and uploaded forms including my license so that I could "skip the line" and go straight to my rental and be on my way. This did not happen. Once I landed and got an email/text to click here for telling me what car to go to, it advised that my car was not ready and check back in 15 minutes. Then it still wasn't ready. I had to go in line which, thankfully, only had two people in it. After some computer shenanigans checking my reservation, I was told that they still had to prepare a car for me and to wait at the chair area. About 10 minutes later, the car was finally ready. Drove fine and got us where we needed to go. Although I did not pay extra for Sirius/XM, the car was equipped with it which was nice. Returning the car before they opened was easy enough just parking it in their lot where I was told to and just leave the keys. Very uneventful. So overall, some problems with the actual obtaining of the rental but otherwise no issues.

I had a car for three nights and when I returned it there where no issues, the employee walked around the car looking for damage, seeing none he said I was good to go and left thinking it was just another normal car return. 2 weeks later I received a letter saying I owed them $1500 for hail damage even though the car didn't even get rained on while I had it. I was also told the guy who did the walk around asked me about the damage and I said I didn't know what it was from, which is a lie. There was visible damage to the car when I dropped it off. When they sent me pictures of the damage I couldn't even see any dents in the car just spots circled on the car. They then told me they use a special tool to find the dents and they are really hard to see. So basically unless you have this tool you can't see dents in the car?! This all seems like a scam to me. There are a lot of great people working for national but obviously not at the Kansas City branch.

Enter sexism- they didn't want the little lady to drive a big ol' truck. I had to tell them my career, which involved driving bigger things than this, to get them to give it to me. Everything was then great. Awesome truck. Returned the truck after topping it off at the gas station at the rental center, got my "final" receipt. Fast forward 3 days, I get another receipt with an added fuel charge. I suspect they counted on me not looking at it. Super shady. So I called Budget. Turns out this location is privately owned (how is that possible?) and corporate can't or won't do anything to help. And this center won't answer the phone. So this review is for now my recourse, but I haven't given up on recovering the bogus charge. UPDATE- With persistence and receipts, I was able to get the bogus gas charge reversed. Because of a Southwest computer glitch (was it really nine years ago?), my original flight from…read moreOakland to St. Louis by way of LAX was canceled, and while my dad got on his flight from LAX to St. Louis, which was supposed to be the second leg of my flight, I had to scramble to get on some flight, any flight, or else risk returning to the airport the following morning, and that would mean my dad and I would miss the Dodger-Cardinal game, the entire reason we were vacationing in St. Louis in the first place. So I eventually chose Kansas City and arrived so late (1:47 a.m., 2:28 a.m.?) that the rental-car center was closed. Yes, I spent the night on an uncomfortable bench in the airport. I set my alarm for 4:30 a.m. or whenever the shuttles from the airport to the rental-car center started running, except I wouldn't need that alarm, because I wouldn't be able to sleep much anyway. (I ended up going to an airport Burger King, which opened before the rental-car center, and waiting it out there. The shuttle was fine. When I entered this place, I just couldn't believe it. Why so many escalators? Why the second story? Did the rental-car center double as a mall? As an airplane hangar or NFL indoor practice facility? Nope. There is all this space, and the different car-rental agencies are lined up against the walls, like in most places. But rather than a single large wall or even two walls, this place has three! Plus a whole hell of a lot of empty space in the middle of the floor. Because? No one really knows why, actually. It's a total mystery. I asked my agent, who was very friendly, if yawny, for this early in the morning. "Does it ever get crowded?" I asked. "Sometimes," she said, "but it's never full." Indeed. How could it be full? I had my one-way rental from Kansas City to St. Louis in a flash, and I was soon navigating unfamiliar Missouri highways on my long trip to St. Louis. It's fine. It's very clean. But what's with all the open space? Is this like a built-in subsidy for the floor-cleaning-solution industry? They must spend so much time cleaning and buffing these floors.
