It was another amazing rental experience for me from Avis once again. This time again the car was assigned and ready for pick up for me before even I arrived at the airport. Upon arrival I struggled a bit to find my way through the terminal to car rental zone, that was going a level down from main terminal, then walking across a passage and then taking elevator to the third floor. When I got the my designated spot, I noticed I got a luxury class car assigned, due to free double upgrade. I went to the nearby window to request a regular SUV and the agent assigned me a Jeep within few seconds. It was a smooth friendly service. Also the pick up area was super nice, one of cleanest and brightest Avis lot that I had seen. We used the car for 3 days, driving over 100 miles around Portland, without any issues. The interior was super clean. All functionalities inside car like A/C, USB port, radio worked perfectly fine. For drop off, it was easy to follow the Rental Return sign to take the car to designated area. Upon exiting the car, an agent processed the return on the spot and sent the receipt to my email. Again, it was a fast convenient service. Overall I was really happy with another fantastic Avis rental experience for a very reasonable price. read more

My partner and I returned this car in perfectly good condition. The woman at the desk took our keys, said nothing about any damage, and wished us safe travels. Then, nearly a week later, Avis suddenly sent us a $3,000 bill claiming the car had been in a collision and that an entire window had been knocked out. Huh? If a whole window had actually been missing when we returned the car, it would have been impossible not to notice. Why did it take weeks to document? Even more suspicious, the mileage shown in Avis's damage photos is three miles higher than when we dropped the car off. The car was clearly driven after it left our possession and before these photos were taken. I am disappoiinted by how this has been handled and will never rent from this location--or Avis--again. If you return a car here, document every inch of it and demand a written inspection before you leave. read more

I would give 0 out of 5 stars if I could. Its really hard to believe how little these guys care about any of their customers. Also, word to the wise, they own budget too and they are just as bad. They rent out vehicles that they don't even have, they willfully give you unsafe vehicles, their customer service is made out of porta-potty sludge. I would give a zero if it was an option. Stood in a massive line and regret using AVIS. How do you only have 2 people working, and 7 empty terminals? And line combined with 2 other companies. Key fob battery died and left us stranded. Windows were so dirty and covered with scaling that no amount of cleaning did the job. SO they offered us a coupon towards our NEXT rental. Hah! Update: I finally figured out the name of the employee who checked us out--Jasem. Unfortunately, my experience with Avis has only gotten worse. When my mom and I tried to resolve the issue today, the staff was incredibly rude, speaking to us in a demeaning manner as if we were children. Instead of addressing the real problem--the lack of transparency when adding extra charges--they acted as though we were a nuisance. When we first rented the car, Jasem never properly explained what he was tacking onto our bill. After a long flight delay, all we wanted was to get home, and he made it seem like the additional charge was just a deposit. He never mentioned all the unnecessary add-ons he slipped in. To make matters worse, when we went back to address the issue, the older white team lead barely cared to listen or help. She had zero interest in resolving our concerns and acted completely indifferent. Meanwhile, the rest of the employees stood around, chatting amongst themselves instead of paying attention to customers. Avis, this is unacceptable. We booked a mystery car for 5 people. when we arrived theyy told us the only vehicle available was a 15 seater Chevrolet express bus. They did offer to change that for a smaller car at $25 a day extra! No question about suitablility or extra fuel costs or anything. Very unhappy with Avis. TERRIBLE SCAM AVIS PDX AIRPORT I had a reservation to pick up a car and return it at Seattle Airport. The rental was fully paid in advance for $34. Upon arrival, I was told the only vehicle available was a 15-passenger commercial van, which was unsafe and impractical for me to drive due to its size--like a small bus. They keep telling me it's a supplier choice I have not choice but drive this bus! Or pay to upgrade to smaller car. I have been booking suppliers choice for years never had anything like this happen !!! I contacted customer service, and they advised me to pay for an upgrade, assuring me the difference would be refunded. After paying, customer service put a note on the reservation and confirmed the refund would process within 48 hours. This happened after I spoke to supervisor Lindsey O'Brien who insisted they had no other vehicle options and that I would have to pay for the upgrade. I told her it's a bait & switch she did not offer any alternative whatsoever and she was not really concerned or seem to care at all! Zero empathy. A few days later customer service processed a refund then it was reversed by the airport agency Thanks Lindsey, and I was charged an additional $258.24 Filed a complaint with customer service I did not hear anything back. I will never do business with them again!!!The supervisor LINDSEY O'BRIEN could have solved this easily she chose not to. Complaint filed with Better business Bureau and I will keep going up the channel until I get this resolved. I'm shocked such a big company is engaged in such a practice !!! read more

Getting the car from here was very easy. We were able to bypass the counter and head straight to the spot our rental was in. They need to do better cleaning the interior though. Just at a glance, we found food and receipts left over from the previous passengers. Returning the car here was a pain though. We followed the markings and signs to return the car, and were waiting for someone to come check us in. An employee yelled at us saying we were not supposed to be in that lane/aisle, even though it was open, not coned off, and there was no one directing the returning cars. Then, we were directed to drive up and out, and back into an empty spot in front of the previous aisle. Still, no one to check in the cars. I guess it's just normal for people here to get out, leave the keys and walk to the terminal. Chose Avis because of their low prices. Not the best experience for myself or others. Doubt if I'd rent from here again. One line for 2 different rental companies, located at the airport, not a shuttle ride away as I was expecting. I was told I didn't add info to my online customer profile (pre checking was supposed to speed up the car retrieval process) so I had to fill it in or else walk to another part of the airport at a different Avis location. After a technical glitch signing in, the employee helped to enter my info in her computer. The three of us were expecting a full-sized car like a Camry. We didn't like the Dodge 2-door sports car we were given, so I went back and chose a Corolla instead. The Avis app gave me a QR code for the first car to leave the parking structure. None appeared for the Corolla so I went back a second time to the Avis booth only to be told I could just drive out without one. **It would have been convenient, hassle free and time-saving to be informed of this from the get go.** While waiting in line for the second time, this poor couple in front of me were having trouble paying for their rental. The only form of payment they were told to use wasn't accepted and they didn't have any other credit cards. The Avis employee didn't seem concerned with their predicament. My Toyota rental was fine except I had to open windows or else some car chemical gave me a stomach ache. Thankfully returning the car was so easy. Scam artists are saying I caused almost 20k damage to interior and never sent proof and accusations were 4-6 months after rental when there was ZERO damage anywhere in or on car and someone checked car in with ZERO problems! The car rental center is located inside the PDX airport. The lines are horrendous as it seems like there aren't too many employees for each car rental company. During my trip to Portland I received an unfair parking ticket. I called the court and got it removed and overturned. However, Avis charged me the full ticket amount. I contacted Avis and showed them the letter and they just keep auto responding on email to pay them for the ticket amount. I have sent the dismissal letter to them, reported this as fraud and they still wont clear the charge. Service rep "Belly G" continues to send me automated emails and wont even read the documents or emails Im sending them. read more

OK, it was Thanksgiving day and I read all the reviews that it was going to be a nightmare long lines. Just everything was going to be horrible. We flew in from San Diego. We went up to three flights of stairs. No one was in the line. We got an upgrade. They were very nice once we were done, we dropped off our vehicle and it was that easy. The vehicle did have damage. The worst car rental experience I've had. I will never book with Avis and i tell my friends and fam not to rent from them. I booked a car online and checked in and got all my information done early. Arrived to the rental car location to find Avis's line reaching the airport exit and was told it would be a minimum 2 hour wait. I didn't even receive an email stating to expect a wait. I had a job interview scheduled two hours post arrival. So I decided to cancel my rental and get a Turro. As I leave the airport I'm on the phone with an Avis representative named Jamal or Jamil I explained my situation and asked for a refund as this was not my fault, the two hour wait defeated the purpose of the car. We rented a car in Las Angeles and returned it to Ontario Airport. Obtaining the car was quick, and the person who helped us get the car was kind and helpful. The problem was when we returned the car. We had some sand on the floor mat and 1/2 of a pretzel and they charged us 125.00. Apparently, this caused the car to be out of commission for an entire day. They have the slowest vacuum process that I have ever heard of! There are so many car rental places to rent from but I just removed one option from my list. read more

We made our 25 minute walk from our terminal gate to baggage claim then over to the Avis car rental line. There was approximately 50 people in front of us which wasn't to bad as they had 4 desks open. Then we saw food delivered to their backroom for some type of party. One by one, the employees at the desks started dropping off to join the party. Soon there was only one desk open and then another 50-60 people showed up. After waiting 45 minutes with the line NOT moving, we went over to the Dollar car rental and got a car in 15 minutes. Needless to say we will not being using Avis in the future read more

Oh I could spend a lot of time to write a review of how terrible Avis @ PDX is, but just read the reviews below to get an idea. In short: 1. We paid almost $300 to upgrade to 'Luxury', and the Infiniti crossover was lame and all marked up with paint damage. 2. A lot of the staff were super rude. 3. I switched to an economy rental, and the gas tank was not full. Yeah, AVIS @ PDX are horrible. Do not use them. There are many other agencies at PDX that are better value. read more

I originally rented a car from the downtown portland AVIS location. I made the reservation over 1 month in advance. When I went to pick up my car at the downtown AVIS, they told me they had ran out of cars and said that my best bet was to go to the PDX AVIS. The PDX AVIS was unapologetic and unsympathetic and simply told me that the downtown AVIS was a franchise and that the PDX AVIS does not honor reservations for the downtown AVIS location. They further told me that the PDX AVIS system can't see reservations for the franchise locations. they told me they ran out of cars and coldly told me what my options were. The entire process was very cold and matter of fact, the lady at the counter told me I should have booked w/ PDX AVIS first. I told her how am I supposed to know that the various AVIS locations don't talk to each other and are independent. How am I supposed to know that different AVIS locations don't honor prices for other locations? I ended having to reserve a larger vehicle which ended up costing me twice as much as the original reservation at downtown AVIS. The entire process was annoying and terribly executed. I had to take an uber from downtown to PDX just to be told they didn't have the car I wanted and that they don't honor other location prices and that they are independent. Avis in general has changed to increase their prices if you want to rent a one way trip. The cost is ridiculous. From what I gather it's because the amount of cars being supplied has declined so this change is to make sure that you bring the car back to the location you rented from. One way rentals are frowned upon and quite expensive from Avis. Due to this, I will start renting from your competitors. I suggest others who need a one way rental do the same. I tried to rent through several rental companies but AVIS was the one that opened the earliest (at 5am) so I chose to rent with them for times sake. I've rented through Avis Preferred around the US - Avis PDX stand out as the absolute worst. Just beyond bad. Avis Preferred never works right here. Supposed to head to your car. It's never there, or, like recently, the wrong car is in the assigned slot. I was told to "walk around and find the right one." No, Avis, that's your job. Go down three flights and try again. Wait in line - the whole point of their program to avoid. No apologies, no comments, just continuing horrible service. Car has 60k miles and smells strongly of body odor. Paul Blart mall cop security has an attitude, and like the people at the desk and who run the place, should be fired. No response to my complaints of such awful service. Go anywhere else. Rented a jeep at the Portland Airport. After returning the vehicle, I received a letter saying I was charged $450.00 for some dog hair. It is extremely excessive since they should be vacuuming the vehicles between each rental anyway. I will never rent from the Avis Group again. My nephew had the same experience. Once in Hawaii, he was charged an exhorbant fee for sand. If you choose to rent with the Avis Group, maybe plan on getting the car detailed before returning. Would be cheaper. read more

The line at Avis/ Budget car rental in the Portland Airport is was extremely lengthy. There were 7 stations and only 3 agents. Since Avis and Budget are the same company they share the same line adding to the holdup. It took over an hour to get to an agent. Someone asked if there was some technical issue and one of the agents said no, it was just that everybody comes at once. Duh, its an airport. The whole time we waited in line it didn't appear to get any shorter and the other rental car companies had hardly any lines. We did request a Camry and got an Altima. No biggie but obviously you can't be sure you'll get what you ask for. That being said the return process was actually easy. read more
