Confirmed reservation through Costco/Avis for travel to Florida. Arrived for pickup of reserved type and model for $341.15, I was informed no vehicle was available except an EV. I was upset, but the manager told me that he could upgrade me, but I would have to pay $186.00 more, no other option. Avis's policy in that situation is to provide the upgrade at no additional cost. Left with no option, I paid the $186.00 more with family waiting. On drop off a week later, I overheard a customer faced with the same situation with no other option other than to pay upgrade. The manager walked away as she cited Avis's policy. Not a coincidence her report confirmed problems at the location. As a lawyer, I did not think this was a coincidence. Happy to hear documented evidence of similarly situated customers. I am not happy and don't want to let this practice continue. Don't bother renting from this location. Most unhelpful staff and shady business practices. Rented a standard SUV and since the type of car was unavailable, they charged $400 a week to upgrade to the next car level. The whole process took over an hour and at no given point the stuff was trying to help, the only way out was to pay the difference or lose the prepaid reservation. read more

If I could give less than 1 star I would. The guy at the location was great but the system is beyond broken. I made a reservation two weeks in advance and when I arrived they were sold out. They didn't have a single car there. I waited around and didn't hear back, I tried to call the location with no answer so I called customer service to check in. They said my car had been ready for an hour - I showed up and they didn't have a car and he said customer service tells everyone their car is ready. What is the point in having a reservation? It means nothing to them. I never ended up with a car because they were "sold out" all weekend. If I made my reservation two weeks in advance that should be plenty of time for them to make sure I have a car. If I could give 0 stars, I absolutely would. I have never had such a terrible experience renting a car. Roger was clearly scamming customers. I witnessed him do it twice--telling people that he didn't have small cars available and forcing them to "upgrade" to larger cars, which they fell for. When I asked about the car sizes, he told me he only had full-size cars, which was fine since that's what I had reserved. But then he claimed that because I had booked that day, he didn't technically have to give me a car. He suggested I could "upgrade," but I pointed out that I had already reserved a full-size car, which was what the "mystery car" should cover according to customer service. Roger then claimed that he only had one car available, which was supposedly already reserved for someone else. However, that person didn't want it and preferred an SUV, so the car became "available." Despite this, he still refused to give me the car I had paid for in full in advance. He raised his voice, got out of his chair, and even tried to intimidate me by saying he was being patient with me, but I just needed to accept the "upgrade" (which wasn't an upgrade at all). The police were called, and Roger told the officer that he had offered me the same deal he had given others, but I refused. It was a scam. I left without a car, and Roger refused to refund me. He gave the car to someone else who arrived early for a reservation the next day. This is clearly a scam operation, disguised as a private-owned business. Roger acted as if he could do whatever he wanted, and it's clear that he had cars available for those willing to pay extra. I have noooo idea why I keep renting from this place . They never have any cars .. I book reservations sometimes months in advance and they never have cars come time for pickup. The owner is a bilingual woman who at times come off rude but I do think she means good . There is a high turnover with staff because of the disgruntled customers ( in which I don't blame them). This was very likely the best customer service experience I've ever had in renting a car. I needed to swing in and swap out a car that was rammed down my throat at the ATL Avis. The gentleman, Amari (?) was able to switch cars out for me in no time. He had a great inventory and was ready to do whatever he could to help me out. While waiting in line I noticed how helpful he was to the customer ahead of me. Amari (I hope I'm spelling that right) was pleasant and helpful to everyone that popped in including the vehicle service staff. It was great to hear him try his best to communicate with them in Spanish. He's no native speaker, but his approach was top notch. This review should mean a lot to Avis. Admittedly, I am more apt to leave bad reviews on Yelp as my service to fellow humans. It takes extraordinary measures for me to rate excellent experiences. I made the reservation online through Avis.com on Aug 27th and went to pickup the car on the same day. When I arrived at the counter, I was told that I will have to pay an additional 15.99$ per day to get the car since I booked the car for same day. I was surprised as this is the first time I heard anything like that at a Avis location. I was polite and asked the associate to clarify if this rule or policy is new and if so is this listed anywhere in the terms and conditions. He aggressively said that this is his own rule and I can rent or walk out in-spite of having an online reservation. I had to take the car as my wife was having a medical emergency and we were out of my state without a car. Also the associate by name Bruce at the store was very very rude and was almost trying to humiliate me. This extra 15.99$ was added as PDW @ 3000$ on the rental agreement. I have my own insurance and I was never asked or told about this PDW insurance. So this was added without my consent. Later, I read the google reviews for this location and was surprised to find out that lot of other customers had a similar experience. I had a very high hopes for Avis based on my past rentals and good customer support I received but this time with this location it was a traumatic and horrible experience that I am still trying to erase from my mind. I even called Avis customer support to report this issue but I couldn't get a proper resolution or address to this issue. I've used this Avis location to rent a car twice but I won't ever again. They are usually understaffed and I stand in there waiting on someone to assist me while the phone continues to ring in the background. The employees lack professionalism. And before actually looking at my reservation always say "I don't remember seeing it" or "hope we have something." Do not trust them. Make sure gas levels are accurately noted. Note all blemishes. I failed to notice they marked the gas as full when I left, when it was much less than that. First, I want to state that the customer service people were kind and that my review is not a reflection on them as they are merely the message carriers of Avis's completely screwed up business practices. This particular location requires a second form of ID for out of state drivers to pick up a car. Since there was no communication about needing a second form of ID, and because I rented a car in New Orleans (my home city) without being asked for one, I had no idea that one was required and obviously didn't bring my passport with me on a road trip to Atlanta. They informed me that they could not give me the car and could not refund me either, since I had already prepaid. Their acceptable forms of second ID include a passport, utility bill, or government issued employee ID. My lease agreement would not work, nor would a credit card, health insurance card, or anything else I had handy. My drivers license alone was not sufficient. I spent 1.5 hours on the phone with customer service. Once I finally got that part sorted out, they refused to run a card that I had used with no problem online because it was a visa gift card and therefore didn't have my name on it. They were not able to change the payment method to any of the other credit cards I had with me. This resulted in me calling customer service again and spending another 30 minutes to change my payment method. While I was waiting, another family came in complaining that their car smelled like an ashtray and that they gave them the wrong car with not enough seats for their family. They refused to give them a different car. Avis also has a policy that they do not clean or service the cars until the driver has arrived, meaning that picking up a car turns into waiting for 30 minutes for the car to be cleaned. I recommend enterprise, which has the cars pre-cleaned and ready to go, and doesn't have hidden policies which make renting a car turn into a nightmare. I will never rent from Avis again: read more

I just want to say a big thank you to Taj!! We were in desperate need of a rental car and after having no luck with other rental agencies like Enterprise we went to Avis. Unfortunately, the lack of communication between the corporate reservation center and the actual location regarding inventory isn't the best but Taj made it work! She was alone and dealing with a lot of angry customers but her hospitality and customer service never wavered. She was able to find one last car for us and for that we are extremely grateful! WARNING! This location will not have the vehicle you reserved. Despite my Costco Avis Preferred reservation they did not have the full sized vehicle I reserved. They only had 2 smaller cars one of which reeked of smoke. When I complained that the smaller car was not acceptable my reservation mysteriously was cancelled. At the same time several other customers came in to pick up their full sized vehicles which were also not available. It began to get very heated with one customer screaming loudly outside at which point I began to feel a threat to my family's safety. The only option I was offered was to rebook the smaller vehicle at a price considerably higher than the full sized vehicle or be stranded without a car in the rain. The totally offshore customer service was worthless during and after the situation and has been unwilling to offer any vehicle replacement or compensatory assistance. You know the routine, ask for a supervisor, click! Their slogan "We try harder" is a total joke. Go elsewhere! read more

They only get one star because the supervisor (she's a lady but I'm not sure of her name since none of them wear name tags) is accommodating when she's there. I have used this location twice, both times showing up at 8am when they open. The first time I arrived I was there for almost two hours trying to get the car I reserved. A woman who was there a little shorter time than me, told me that she came to the location yesterday; they allowed her through the door then shut everything down not helping her. I seemed to be having the same luck she was having. The lady supervisor gave me a free day for my long wait which I thought was nice of her. I thought that since she was so helpful, I would give this place another try...-_-. This is my second time here and I am writing this one while on sight. I got here at 8am again and no one showed up to work!! I and a long line of customers are here waiting for them to open and it's currently 18 minutes past opening time. One man that has a rental van has left and came back three times waiting for someone to show up. Edit: the workers nonchalantly strolled in running their beards 20 minutes late. I'd put their names down here if they had name tags because this is awful. I've been waiting in line for 37 minutes and counting. The couple at the counter has been trying to get their car this whole time. If you don't have an in state license, apparently you're all screwed here. I'm going to try a different location next time for sure. Another edit: it took me TWO HOURS to get my vehicle. Man if I could give this a zero I would. I prepaid online with a debit card. Getting there and waiting for 37 minutes was ridiculous enough. The couple in front of me never got their car. Later, I called again - The location manager Bruce (He told me he was the Manager) picked up the phone - He first said "Since you booked the car today, I may not have a car for you and you may have to pay upgrade fee" Of course I said that "I booked yesterday, I can send you my email confirmation" He said "On my current system I can not receive your email" This went on for a while, finally he said " I printed my list at 3:29 PM on Saturday and since you booked after that hence its not on my list" My response was "Fair enough, if you do not have car in my category but in upgraded category, I am okay to take the upgraded car but without paying upgrade fee" "Since I have confirmation email and confirmation on phone with Avis national on my reservation, Avis location should be providing any car that they have available without extra fee" He did not agree. The attendant asked for a 2nd form of ID since my license was out of state, something I have NEVER had to do and I have rented in probably 30 of the 50 states including numerous times in GA. My last visit with Avis was quite disappointing: I reserved a midsize vehicle online about a week and a half ago. When I arrived this past Saturday, they only had suvs available and only two to choose from. I went with the Ford Flex and it was obvious that the car had not been detailed. The other one couldn't be reserved anyway, because it was "on hold". Lol They were short staffed, as always, with two ladies working the front desk. As a result, the wait to checkout was extremely long. I was there for almost an hour. The two ladies at the front desk were extremely rude. I had to drive the car from the back of the lot to the curb in order for someone to inspect the vehicle. I then waited 10 minutes before going inside to remind someone that we were still waiting. When someone finally came out to inspect the vehicle, I had to insist we inspect the car together and that they note the mileage - basically make homegirl do her job otherwise she really was about to hand me a blank sheet of paper as a receipt. Oh and should I mention she tried to say they came out looking for me, but couldn't find me hence why the wait for the inspection I asked for (emphasis on "I asked for") took so long. Lies. We were parked right outside the building the entire time...just waiting! I started using Avis, because their cars are of better quality than Enterprise and location relative to where I work, but the poor service recently experienced at this location and inconvenience of picking up and returning a vehicle is just not worth the hassle. read more
