This is an Avis/Budget location so leaving this here. 50 min wait for a Budget rental car despite having reservations 3 weeks prior. Exterior of car was not clean. Then at drop off the employee tried to charge me $10 a gallon for gas despite having purchased the fuel recharge package and having obvious proof via my emailed reservation confirmation. Service at care rental places is not always the best, but we had a very nice experience at this location. First off, we wanted to pick up the car we had rented a few hours early. Per their website, they were sold out of cars until our originally appointed time. We went anyway and hoped for the best. The 2 friendly, accommodating women at the counter were very helpful and had us on our way in minutes. Great customer service and certainly worth calling out. read more

THIS REVIEW IS FOR BUDGET! I've rented from this Budget location on 214 N Clark twice now & I have never had an issue! Staff has always been helpful & friendly. Quick service. Close to my house so easy pick up & drop off. This location is also open until 7:30 on Sunday which is amazing when traveling back from MI (like I do). The only downfall I guess I could say would be the first rental I received... It was a death trap, but this past time they made up for it! Clean, flex fuel, 2016, and NOT a death trap! The women who worked were beyond polite and sweet and got me in a car within 10 minutes to get home for the holidays, where Hertz failed me and was a huge disappointment. CHECK YOUR RECEIPTS!! This location is out to scam people out of money. I have read several other reviews on here where people were charged for fuel fees that did not apply. I was charged for fuel and had to send in my gas receipt to corporate in order to get reimbursed. I will never be renting from this location again. I've had great experiences with Avis and Budget at other locations but whoever is running this location is a scam artist. They should be fired immediately. It would be interesting to know how many people don't notice the charge and get screwed out of money. I will be sending my complaints to corporate. read more

Have been waiting a half hour to pick up a car frustrated customers stand in front of idle workers. Apparently the people somehow responsible behind the scenes for preparing and pulling up cars are not answering their phone or providing anything resembling cars. Not sure how many people aren't doing their job here, but I am absolutely certain I won't be returning. Update: ended up taking 55 minutes, start to finish, till they finally gave me a minivan instead of having me continue to wait for the compact car I had reserved. read more

I rented a car at Avis,Oakbrook Sears. When we went there their system was down. After waiting 30 minutes they informed me that the system is down so they could not rent a car to me. I told them I was late for a drive to Canada and had an event to attend. I needed a car. They suggested I go to another location. When I got to the new location which was at Double Tree the agent advised me that I had to pay 60 dollars more. I had no choice I took the car. then when I got it home I saw how dirty it was. grass on floor, dirty seats. it was not cleaned. BEWARE OF SCAMMY PREPAID FUEL CHARGE!!! They put a $32.09 prepaid gas charge on my bill against my consent when I picked up the car, but told me the charge would be removed if I returned the car full. When I returned the car, they wanted to charge me the full $32, because they claimed the vehicle was only 7/8 full (basically drove a few miles between when I refueled and returned the car). I offered to go to gas station and top it off, but they said I wouldn't have time because my car needed to be returned by 1:30pm and I'd already spent 30 minutes with them fighting. Finally, Rolando the manager agreed I would only be charged the market rate for 1/8. However, when I went upstairs, they still charged me $16 for gas. When I raised my voice at them, they said they would neeed to call up Rolando again. After waiting now for 45 minutes, I had to leave to go doctors appointment. My only recourse was to write this bad review warning other potential consumers to beware of this location. To Rolando and the rude customer service reps who I dealt with, sorry for raising my voice and using bad language, but in fairness, it's frustrating to have a big company like yours defraud me without anything I can do about it. Our car was supposed to be picked up from the Lowe's hotel but was not there. No one picks up on the local number, no one on site to handle the issue. The national customer service number couldn't really tell us anything other than to go to the office. We arrived, we were the only customers (not sure why they weren't picking up the phone) and they had no real reason why the car was not at the pickup point. They basically said they don't do Lowe's pickups despite offering it as an option because they're short staffed. No one thought to call us and point it out?? Really?? This put our trip back and hour and made us rush around town trying to sort out their mess. When we got to the car it was filthy, so clearly hadn't even been cleaned let alone sanitised. We pointed this out and they sent the car for cleaning delaying us further while we sat in a garage wearing masks. Just astonishing at a time when all of these companies are at risk of bankruptcy that no one seems to want to put in any effort to be competent. read more

on June 22, 2012 I rented an economy car at Budget at 214 North Clark St in Chicago for $193.99 per week to be returned to the same location on Friday 6/29/2012. Sharon the sale person on site assured me that I will not have any problems if I will choose to extend rental lease for a month. All I had to do is to call the 24 hour number listed on the papers she gave me. The cost per month was $600.00. On 6/29/12 at 4:40pm, I called the number listed on rental papers. I reached the office of Avis Rent A Car, and not Budget. Later on I have learned that Avis and Budget are owned by the same company, Avis Budget Group. Frieda the woman who answered the phone, couldn't find my information in the computer - which was wired and specious. Later, Mary was able to find my information. That seemed STRANGE! I told Mary that I'm keeping the vehicle for a month and return it on July 21, 2012. to the same office. Mary tried to sell me a new deal and not extend my rental to a month, but I didn't fall for it. From $1200 she went down to $800 per month, but I told her that I will deal only with Sharon who offered me a month for $600. even $193.99 per week times 4 is less than $800. I didn't trust Mary and I ended our conversation telling her that I will finalize the money with Sharon on the return date July 21st. Mary had to add this information into the system, but she did NOT.. On July, 17th (I think 20th) about 9:15 am, my front door buzzer rang. Two security men identified themselves as Avis / Budget employees were to pick up the car and keys. I was Shocked & surprised. I called Budget to find out what's going on. I called 866-996-6784 a # I got from the guys. Ms Johnson who answered, was unprofessional and rude. I was treated as a thief and criminal, something I didn't deserved. She claimed that they sent me emails. Unfortunately, Budget's emails went to a different address, which is listed on the order of recovery is my proof of giving the vehicle and the keys back to Don, the security man who signed this document. Budget never called my work number, they called someone else. All incoming messages are recorded as an email which I get, and include the telephone number of the person or company calling, the date, time and the message they left. I got no calls!!! Without an explanation, Ms Johnson was only interested only in getting the vehicle and keys which I returned voluntary. I did not steal their car. A thief will hide the car and will not park it in front of his home, as per the security guys, but I parked the car in front. On Sunday, June 24th, I reported the credit card I gave to Budget as stolen, and my bank, Chase issued me a new credit card which arrived 10 days later. All payments transactions were to be canceled immediately. On July 25th, Budget took out $1706.78 from my account, and on 8/24/12 Budget took out additional $26.65 using my stolen card number without my signature or authorization. Recently I discovered disturbing information about the way banks pay the daily credit cards transactions of any business, in this case Budget. I was told by a bank manager that BANKS NEVER CHECK what is the amount on the sign receipts. Banks approved the amount their vendors claim on their daily deposits. With CLEAR KNOWLEDGE, CLEAR UNDERSTANDING and FULL CONSCIOUS, BUDGET Rent A Car LIED to my bank and stole money from me. They LIED about the amounts, dates and used these loop holes and trick the system and get my money without my permission and signature. BUDGET knew what they doing and did it anyway and IT IS ILLEGAL! As a result of what Budget did I was penalized by CHASE, for overdraft and non available funds in the total amount of $127. To date I'M OUT of a total of $1860.43 that was stolen by Budget from my account illegally. On the original agreement I approved only a total of $310.68 and not a penny more- I have the proof with my signature on it. It is sad to find out that there is NO LAW that protects us the people, and allow companies like Budget and Chase to do whatever they want and whenever they choose to do this. The burden is on BUDGET to produce signed receipts with my signature on them for July 25 and for August 24th transactions. they DON'T EXIST !!! Today August 27, this is what it cost to rent... read 1. The cost for a economy 2 or 4 door is only $596.69 per month. 2. The cost for compact 2 or 4 door is only $614.69 per month. 3. The cost for intermediate 2 or 4 door is only 629.99 per month. 4. The cost for a standard 2- 4 door is only $659.69 per month . 5. The cost for a full size 2-4 door is only $685.79 per month. I'm telling the truth. Budget is a terrible company and YOU SHOULD NEVER USE THEM ! This is a strong warning to BUDGET and CHASE who don't stand by their service. One was totally sexist towards me, one gave me a car covered in tobacco and got me sick. And didn't bother to refund me for it. Also when I complained an incompetent employee told me where the exit was instead of helping. Disgusted with my treatment never again will I rent from them. Also! This is a review for Avis in general not so much this location. Renting cars for years a person discovers they each have their own games to add on $$. Avis game is to try and get you to upgrade vehicles then ask about a dozen other things that cost extra. Upon returning the vehicle they expect you to vacuum up or an excess cleaning charge is applied. I'm done with Avis better luck to everyone else. read more

PSA: LONG POST BUT USE ANY OTHER LOOP LOCATION!! I rented a car there this past weekend and returned it on time with the gas tank full. I picked up my dog from the dog sitter and dropped him off at home on the way to drop off the car (he was in the car 15 min max). When I returned the car (the car return area is terrible - difficult to drive down a tiny windy basement entrance), they inspected the car for ~5 minutes with me there and asked me if I wanted a receipt, in which I responded to please email it to me. A few days later I checked my credit card statement, and noticed they charged me 30% more than the quoted rate when I picked up the car. Apparently it was due to a $50 excessive cleaning charge related to my dog, but it was never mentioned in the ~5 minutes I stood there while they inspected the car. Additionally, the limited amount of dog hair has never been an issue at any other car rental place I've used over the years, even when my dog has gone on the road trip. On top of this, they never sent me a receipt, so had I not looked at my statement, I never would've noticed the extra $60 ($50 + 21% Chicago tax) charge. Additionally, the workers couldn't tell me when their manager would be in so I could speak with her, and it took me three attempts to finally speak in person. Maneca, the manager there, said that any extra sort of cleaning means an additional charge, and they have limited supplies to clean vehicles at this location (they have handheld vacuums not ones you typically to see at any decent car rental location). She did not care about anything I had to say, and kept reiterating the company policy (extra cleaning beyond a handheld vacuum = $$). WHY AM I BEING CHARGED BECAUSE YOUR COMPANY DOESN'T SUPPLY WORKERS WITH SUFFICIENT SUPPLIES TO DO THEIR JOB AT THIS LOCATION? Absolutely horrible experience all around, and I would NEVER recommend this joke of a car rental location to anyone. Customer service was a complete joke. However, we had issues with the windshield wipers and when we notified the manager - Aaron - upon return, he was extremely dismissive and condescending. I have never been so appalled by a manager's response to a safety issue that was raised by a customer. The staff were extremely helpful, but if you don't have experience driving a car in tight spaces do NOT rent from this location. The area where the cars are parked is extremely tight. When I was ready to pull put of my space, there were two parked returns directly in front of my vehicle and to the right and to the left was a pillar. So getting into a car which I'm not familiar with yet and having to maneuver in the tight spot (keeping my fingers crossed that I don't need to use the insurance coverage) was an uncomfortable way to begin my trip. read more

I am from chicago and I typically rent from this location when I come in town due to I often get a hotel in the downtown area. But that's as far as it goes. Since I've rented from this location multiple times, I have been prevy to the diffrence in customer service blacks receive opposed to the white customers. The front desk staff can be rude and condecending towards the black customers, and social and VERY accomodating to the white customers. Please whatever you do, do not ask any questions regarding making changes to your rental or have questions upon your return because you will definitely get an exasperated dismissive response. Which is unfortunate, because every other avis location I patronize is happy for my business. read more

The reservations service center transferred me to this location after assuring me that the the customer service representatives there could help me with a simple request. When I was connected to the "mini-lease" customer service agent, I asked her if she would be able to fax me a copy of my mini-lease contract. She responded that she could fax me a number of different things, but not the one thing I was asking for, and then she asked me something like, "what did you do with your copy of that paperwork when you signed it anyway? didn't you get a copy then?" If you're looking for friendly, helpful customer service agents, this is not the place to find them. If you want sacarsm and rhetorical questions, if you want to feel stupid for misplacing your paperwork, or if you want to experience condescention for asking a simple question, THIS is the place for you. read more

I rented through the Budget side of this location. Carefully check over the rental agreement. I had prepaid my reservation online, went to pick up the car, and was asked if I wanted any additional coverage or services. I verbally declined, as I ALWAYS do with a rental car. Then the woman pointed out the three places to initial without any further explanation on the contract. I did so, and am regretting that mistake. She had actually added in a roadside assistance coverage charge, as well as acceptance of the loss damage waiver. So I was charged an additional $40 on a two-day rental. When I called to inquire about the charges, I was told they had to be upheld since I signed the contract as is. While I understand that and wish I had looked more closely, I just want people to be careful about their business practices. My first time ever renting a car and its was the worst experience I ever had. Jynnell was the associate that had one of the worst attitudes I ever seen in a retail environment. I visited the rental place today Saturday the 26, around 130pm trying to rent a car for the weekend. I called one hour before to make arrangements, so when I arrive at the store the car would be ready. Like I said it was the worst ever. When I walked through the door no one acknowledge me, so I step to the counter and the first thing she (jynnel) said "you here to rent a car?" Like really, no good afternoon, how are you, even may I help you?...nothing! With that being said I said yes I'm here to pick up a car I reserved over the phone...she rolled her eyes and told me to give her my license and credit card. From there downhill it went. From her rolling her eyes about me asking why is she swiping my card without me knowing what the charge is for. It went as far as the manager being called to the front because I cancel the service....I would never step one foot in there nor recommend anyone to go there while JYNNELL is working because you would leave there with a bad attitude.
