SCAM ALERT. Do NOT rent from these guys and most of all DO NOT prepay...pay at the end, no matter what they say. Give them your card to have on file but do not let them charge you till you have returned the vehicle! If they do, contact your bank. Learn from my mistakes. The issue: I booked a car over the phone and they said I had to prepay, which was weird but I thought it was maybe because I was using a debit card. I asked if this car was extendable or if I could return it early (I was waiting on new plates for my car and had to rent in the meantime. Because the DMV takes anywhere between 7-21 days for plates, I rented from Avis for 3 weeks... but wanted to make sure I could change the reservation if things at the DMV happened faster or there were delays). I was assured I could. AT NO POINT did the agent say to me "If you prepay and return the car early, you do not get your money back." AT NO POINT! I was also told by prepaying I SAVE money compared to when I pay at the pick up location (not that that was even an option for me). Of course, I returned the car early and was told the $967 left would not be returned to me! Nearly $1k, or $1413 total, for a week long rental. What the actual hell? I spoke to three agents, all who hung up on me (and I just have to say they were all men and because they didn't like being challenged by a woman they thought the appropriate response was to start raising their voice to me and then hang up). ALL three agents said this fine print detail was included in the copy of my receipt and "contract" emailed to me upon paying. AFTER I PAY, they let you know this detail. That is nothing short of fraud. How dare you call it a contract when you don't even let the customer in on major things like this. I was also told I could change my reservation at any time, but what a tiny detail to leave out...if you change it you don't get a dime back! Moreover, when I reserved the car over the phone, the agent booked my return day incorrectly, which I saw when I picked up the car. The location I picked up from claimed they couldn't do anything about it, so I had to call the customer service line back and it took another hour to sort it out. I also found a used face mask in the backseat pocket. So much for keeping cars clean and safe during COVID! Ew. All in all it was a terrible experience and I will never use them again. After way, way, way too long and talking (and threatening a lawsuit) to various managers, supervisors and staffers, they opened up a case number to review and refund the remaining $967. I still haven't received it (they said it takes about 10 days), but I plan to keep following up and make sure it happens. It is a total scam, and I also reported Avis to the Better Business Bureau, the Federal Trade Commission and the FBI offices in New Jersey (their headquarters) and New York (where I rented from). If anything like this has happened to you with Avis, I encourage you to reach out to the above agencies. The more people who do it the more likely a case will be brought against them for fraudulent business practices. read more

have had the pleasure of dealing with Ravi and Alex on two occasions recently and both times, they have been the breath of fresh air I needed during a not so good time in my life. My trusty 5 year old car had broken down on me out of no where and these guys made the process so easy for me even when I had come In all frustrated and not as friendly as I normally would be ;) from the minute that Uber dropped me off from the mechanic... and me... in my flustered moment came waltzing in... Ravi and Alex welcomed me with a great big smile, knowing that I was not having a good day at all! They are so accommodating that even when I needed to extend not once or twice but three times...they always had smiles and greeted my phone calls with great accommodation and pleasure! I couldn't be more satisfied with the customer service that these two provided on both occasions for me and my family! They even made my horrible day so much better by upgrading me to a gorgeous truck with a great discount! I would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for impeccable customer service, great quality rentals at fair prices!! Ravi and Alex will definitely exceed your expectations...I know they did mine! Thank you guys for making my rental experience such an easy one!! I'd give it ZERO stars if I could! After a terrible car accident, I got a taxi to take me from my mechanic to Avis so I could rent a car. I had been at the Hicksville location many years earlier and was able to get a rental car with my debit/credit card. When I got to Avis this past time, I was obviously very shaken and upset from the accident that had just happened and requested a rental car from the employee. He informed me that I needed a major credit card. I told him that I had gotten a rental at that exact location with my debit card which was also a VISA card in the past. He told me that they didn't do that (didn't say that the policy was changed so that was shady) but if I had a credit check approved, then they could use the debit card. I know my credit is not the best, (although I had a credit check done just a few months earlier when I sent in an application for a new apartment and there were no issues then) but I had no choice and agreed to the credit check which was not approved. Seemed suspicious but ok, I wasn't blaming Avis for that...the reason for the one star review is the treatment I got. The employee (and I think he was the manager since he was the only person there) was so rude to me!! When he saw I had "failed" the credit check and I was almost in tears from what had just happened to me a few minutes earlier, he had such a sarcastic smirk on his face when he handed back my debit card! I was stunned! There was absolutely no sympathy or kindness at all. He was a completely unprofessional CREEP! What kind of person is amused by another's misfortune? I ended up having to walk home. I'll not only never go there gain, but I'll tell anyone who needs a rental NEVER to go to that place! I ended up getting a rental later in the day from Enterprise....not only do they pick you up and take you to where you want to be, they had no problem accepting my debit/credit card and were so nice and comforting each step of the way. Complete professionals! There are lots of Enterprises, including ones in Hicksville and Syosset, so if one center cannot accommodate you, another will. As for Avis, they should be ashamed of themselves for such horrendous service! PS- If you look at all the Avis reviews, not only for the Hicksville location but for the other rental centers in the vicinity, all of them have terrible reviews! So you know it's not just one bad day or one bad employee...it's just a rotten company!!! read more

Terrible customer service and unprofessional staff. I booked a reservation online and received a reservation number through email to pick up a car the next morning. I had to put credit card information down so the vehicle is already prepaid. I am looking for Avis the next morning (couldn't find it until I called because it's a kiosk inside the mall) and when I called they said that they didn't have the car ready for me. They told me that they didn't have the car for me because I booked the car "after office hours." I was very upset considering I was relying on this car for a weekend trip to Albany. I did not understand why Avis would allow people to book a reservation online and CHARGE MONEY for a car that is not actually available. The worker at Hicksville then told me to call Avis customer service to move my reservation to the Roslyn location because they have the car available there. I call customer service and am told that they cannot move my reservation because it is "pre paid." I ask to speak to a supervisor and the supervisor tells me ten minutes after being on the phone that they can't move the reservation because all the cars at Roslyn are "sold out" and to "maybe try the Melville location." I gave up on Avis at this point because I felt that I would just be riding around searching for a car that would never be available. I ended up finding a car at Enterprise who quickly made the reservation and had better customer service. At this point I called the Avis at Hicksville to cancel the reservation and he told me to "call customer service" so I am still wondering what this persons actual job is if he couldn't do anything I asked for. I called customer service and they did not understand why I was asking for a refund and I had to explain that I was charged for a car that was never made available to me. I had to speak to a supervisor in order to cancel it and and finally received a confirmation email saying I was getting a refund. read more

AVOID It was my birthday weekend and I arranged a convertible to be picked up at 11am Sunday!! I called at 9am and they said the car would be there!! Great, I called at 10:15 and asked to see if I could pick the car up early, Alex told me the car isn't due back in to Islip until 11am!!! There goes my plans!! Thank you Avis for ruining my birthday weekend!!! I will never use this company!! I would recommend enterprise but they're useless too!! read more

Go to enterprise down the road in Hicksville. Avis won't give you a ride home. The location was flexible that I dropped a car off in Hicksville instead of Carle Place. Also the rep here was lazy and asked me to get the mileage from the car. Isn't that your job? read more
