The person that answered the phone was very polite and explained the procedure. I picked up the car at the location near the ship and dropped it off at the same location. The van did have a crack in the corner of the windshield and later in the day seemed a little sluggish, but it got us to Mendenhall Glacier, drove to a few more sightseeing locations and finished at Tracy's. It was definitely cheaper than all 12 of us pay for a similar excursion.

Tires are the most important part of a car in regards to safety. We called and were offered a discount but really the most important is to be safe! Especially in the rain. Did not feel safety was an important consideration from them. The vehicle was also pretty banged up in the front bumper area plus interior floor was muddy. There was some computer issues so we had to wait for over half and hour to get the car. All the cars were electric vehicle. You will also pay a 25$ fee for them to recharge the vehicle. Full charged vehicle can go about 240 miles. We pretty much only used 1/4 of charge because Juneau is only so big. Lol. Did spot a deer near by before pulling out so that was pretty cool.

Having visited Juneau before, we knew transportation options would be very limited at that hour. Since we were traveling with a baby, we were especially concerned about how we would get to our lodging. I explained our situation to Mark at Alamo, and he went above and beyond to help us. He spoke with his manager, Jacob, who graciously returned after closing time to ensure we received our rental vehicle. Both Mark and Jacob were incredibly kind, professional, and genuinely focused on helping us. Their willingness to accommodate our situation turned what could have been a very stressful experience into a smooth and positive one. Drove less than 8 miles, went over a speed bump and the undercarriage began dragging on the road. We tried our best to drive back to the airport, driving under the speed limit with hazards, cut our day short by 6 hours, only to be told that they knew there was an issue with the car. Told me the manager would have to call to discuss a refund. Never received a call. Called enterprise customer service who said they would reach out. Still never received a call. Enterprise charged me the full cost 30 days after the incident. Will never use enterprise again. Definitely don't use juneas enterprise rental services.

I've had the good fortune of always traveling with folks that have primary car insurance and can rent a car without an additional cost. This time around, I had to be a big girl and rent my very own for the first time. Budget was arbitrarily selected for this honor. I easily reserved a car online and showed up the next day about 45 minutes early. It's not surprising that the desk was empty since this is Juneau and I was probably the first customer of the day. (Although it should be noted that the other car rental agency desks were also dead but not unmanned.) However, I consider it divine intervention since a freak snowstorm conveniently commenced during those 45 minutes, and if I had hit the road earlier, I probably would have met my demise in some remote location. When my pick up time hit, two fellows magically appeared and quickly had me on my way. The promised ice scraper wasn't in the car, so I had to trudge all of 50 feet back to the desk. I wasn't a huge fan of my Ford Fusion. I don't know if it had crappy tires or what, but it could barely handle the slushy road conditions during the snowstorm. It drove fine apart from that episode, but I'd inquire about tires if you'll be driving in inclement weather. Drop off was just as painless as pick up, if not more so. I've honestly never dealt with a more laid back or stand-up car rental agency before. The same two fellows barely even looked at my gas receipt, handed me my receipt, and had me on my way again. I was even charged slightly less than the estimated price. And no surprise erroneous charges after the fact! I didn't know it was possible for a car rental agency to behave this way.

Agents at National and Budget next door told us they had not seen the agent all day and that five previous customers had not been able to get their rentals. We called the 800 Hertz number only to be told that they only dealt with locations in the USA. Last time I checked, Alaska is in the USA. In the end we were unable to pick up our rental car that we had a confirmed reservation for. Completely unacceptable from Hertz!! This completely ruined our plans in Juneau. Thank you Hertz.

Several employees from the other car rental agencies looked out the window and said he didn't even have a car to rent you on the lot. They said he just called in sick and there was nobody to replace him. There was no way to get a hold of this person and when we called Hertz 800 number we never got to speak to anybody after being on hold for over an hour. We went to the airport security officer to inquire into a fraud report. He was finally able to get a hold of the regional Hertz manager, who works out of Fairbanks. This guy was just full of excuses. All the other car rental agencies were booked solid. The only other car rental agency was Juneau car rental so we had to pay for a taxi to get there. They had one car left and it smelled like cigarettes. This took up most of the day and we were only able to keep the car for a few hours before we had to go back to the cruise ship. Save yourself some time money and frustration and don't ever book with Hertz.
