Matt, our pilot, was fantastic, skilled, professional, and made the flight itself feel like part of the adventure. Go big or go home was my thought process for my 50th birthday- we booked an Alaskan cruise over a…read moreyear out in anticipation! This was the excursion I wanted most- Seaplane over glaciers! Lunch at a lodge, fresh caught and smoked salmon, hiking a bit of that barely touched land. It's a bit of a walk to the Wings Airways check in and shop- not too bad, but longer thanks to construction. Check in was easy and they can hold bags for you to pick up when you return! Great since we had about 45 minutes to explore before boarding. We got Orange/Orcas group- they have a fleet and each plane seats about 10. I'm mad at myself for not paying attention to who our pilot was- June 22- 9:30am- he was excellent! Has been flying for 13 years, very smooth take off and landing! I knew that someone gets to ride up front with the pilot and my hand shot up so fast when the question was being asked! Birthday girl- me me, pick me. lol- yes, I got front seat- right next to the pilot! Prepare to be stunned. Simply, unequivocally, utterly in awe. I lost count of how many times I said wow. Five glaciers, plus tons of smaller glaciers, jagged mountain peaks and smoothed over mountains, the waterfalls!!! The rivers!!! I felt like my entire being couldn't comprehend the enormity of what I was seeing. Alaska made me feel so small in its vastness. Reminded me how little I've seen or done. Landing at the lodge, it is directly across from Hole in the Wall Glacier. The grounds are glorious- it was buggy outside- and the gracious hosts have bug spray on a barrel head right outside the front door. Our feast was incredible- smoked salmon, caught fresh right downstream from the lodge. A family owed property, they bring in 9 additional hands to work the summer and all stay on the property- self sustained. The food- my goodness. First, I have never been a fan of salmon- but there was no way I was eating chicken at an Alaskan Lodge! The salmon was delicious- cooked perfectly. Everything was delicious- the herbed biscuit- perfection. I tried the spruce tips oil in my iced tea and promptly bought a bottle to take home! And just when you are done your meal and enjoying the atmosphere, they bring out gingersnap cookies- freshly baked. Ginger is great for your stomach, even though I was stuffed, I thoroughly enjoyed the entire cookie. Next up, our naturalist took us on a short hike and talked about the flora and fauna, about the glacier, the local plants that they use daily. I broke from the group to check out the trickle of a waterfalls at the back of the property- enjoyed the quietness of the forest & was grateful for my hoodie to keep the mosquitos at bay. Return flight was just as spectacular. Alaska stole a piece of my heart for sure. Thank you to every staff member between the Wings and the Lodge! You were all fabulous!

Cold rainy day but the inside seating was comfortable and the windows are perfect huge size for sightings. The naturalist guide was clearly in love with her job. She was as excited as we were at each siting. We came across a family of sea lions napping on a buoy. So cute to see the baby poke his head out from under mom. Worth the money for sure. Even though we had seen more whales off the coast of VA, these were Alaska whales!

Walking around on a glacier and getting to see it from above will be a core memory that will last a lifetime. It does get chilly up there, make sure you have a scarf and beanie. They do provide you with clean, weather appropriate clothes to wear during the tour, and you even get to scoop up a can of glacier water to drink!

Our guides were awesome too and didn't make the pace too fast so that all ages in our tour group could participate. Their knowledge about the Glacier and being able to answer questions makes them true professionals. The only thing I noticed is that they don't require a sterile environment when landing back at base as our guides were chatting when we were coming in. The pilot could have pushed ICS, but as much as they push safety, I feel like this is a huge safety item.

At first it was okay experience, we got on a school bus that brought us to Mendenhall Glacier Visitor Center, we got only one hour to walk around, it was good but wish that we have 30 more minutes. We did see the Nugget Fall, it was amazing. Then they brought to do the Whale watching, this was amazing, we have the perfect weather. The boat that we were on was nice and clean, also it was steady that no one just seasick or anything. At a moment our boat captain did couple of faster turns, it felt great didn't even felt like anything happened. Yes we saw lots of whales and it was great to see our tour guide and captain excited with us to see the amount of whales. Also once we stopped we were able to go outside of boat to see the whale. The best part is really our Captain Austin, he was amazing. My elderly mom was not able to move that much so he make sure that we parked the boat on the side where she can watch it. Also, with his great experience he can predict around when or where the whale will come out. It was amazing. The tour group with Jake the party bus and our captain Austin, they are some of the best. Also we were cutting close to get back on the cruise, Jake dropped us off right in front of the cruise with 15 mins left to spare.

He took us to several places including the old mine area, the Mendenhall Glacier and throughout town with historical sights. He was very flexible and his car was immaculate with water bottles waiting for us. It was a great way to see a snapshot of Juneau if you don't have much time. We saw other ships out on the water that seemed a lot rougher in condition, and just less professional, so I'm glad that we paid a premium to be on the ship that we were on! I'd definitely recommend booking with this team, they also seem to be a subcontractor for Juneau Lighthouse Tours, so booking with them may work as well.

I can't imagine all of the other operators were breaking the rules. Even with 25× zoom on my phone, I couldn't get clear photos, and binoculars were almost required. Whales are plentiful in Alaska, so finding them isn't the issue--the viewing distance is. Staying so far away made this much less exciting than other whale watching tours I've been on. I would choose a different operator next time - sadly we don't know when will we be back to Alaska.
