If I could rate them at zero stars I would. I reserved a car on a Friday evening to drive to North Carolina on Saturday and fly home on Sunday. When I got to the lot there was one SUV there, and I walked in and mentioned to the guy behind the counter that it must be for me, and he replied "No it's not". I was surprised by how rude he was right off the bat. I told him I had a confirmation code and when I gave him my name he showed me a list of names and reservations and said "The car isn't for you, your name isn't on the list.", then he stared off as if I wasn't standing there. I tried to give him my confirmation number and he said "I said have no car for you" and continued to stare out the window. I wound up calling the toll free customer service number, and after 25 minutes of confirming my pickup and drop off locations, the operator insisted I had a car there, and asked to talk to the guy behind the counter. He refused to speak to the operator through my cellphone on speaker, and said they had to call his landline if they wanted to speak with him. As I waited on hold for the operator to call the guy behind the counter, my call got cut off, and the landline never rang. The rep behind the counter got annoyed, asked me for my confirmation number, looked it up, and said "You made a reservation for 3pm. It's 4pm. I had 3 cars here at 3pm, one was yours, and I gave it away. Next time get here on time". Basically, according to the world's worst employee, I went from not being on a reservation list for a car to being penalized for being late so he gave my car away. I had always thought if you reserve a car at 3, you start paying at 3, even if you get there at 6. Isn't how that works when you rent a car from the airport? If your flight is delayed you still have a car waiting for you? When I inquired about this with the rep, he said "That's not how it works here. First come, first served. Get here on time next time". I left the location and tried calling another customer service operator only to find out the guy at the location deleted my reservation from the system and there was no record of my reservation or my calls. To add to this mess, there were no available rentals within a 50 mile radius, so I had to drive my personal car 10 hours to NC on Saturday and drive back home on Sunday, and I was penalized $150 by the airline for canceling my flight. Clearly the employee there hates his job because as a "customer service" rep, he couldn't care less about the customers. I highly recommend staying far away from here. Horrible Customer Service, I waited 2 hours for them to finally get to me after processing 3 people. Only for the rep to tell me that there were no more cars available! I was the last customer looking to pick up their reserved car, only to be shooed out because it was close to closing time. I am waiting to hear back from Corporate and will update if they correct my problem. I brought back my rental to this location. I put gas into the tank but it was cold (-25) in New York with windchill. I filled up between 3/4 and a full tank. I was charged $41 dollars for less than 1/4 of a tank. I was then told it was $8.49 a gallon. Gas is currently 1.89 here on Long Island. I CALLED CORPORATE AND THEY ARE LOOKING INTO THIS. If there was a ZERO star rating available, that rating would accurately would sum up the experience we had with TROY at AVIS/BUDGET on Sunday 12-9 at 2:40pm. My brother, his wife, and my 9 month old niece flew in town for the weekend from Miami. His inbound flight was delayed and we were unable pick up his rental car at Enterprise since they closed at 1pm. We were able to book on Expedia a compact car for $40 for just one day at this location. When we walked in the rep (Troy) advised that he had no CARS except SUVS at a rate of $100. We told Troy that online there were several classes of cars available at this location and plenty of cars in the lot. If he claims that he ONLY had SUVs, then in the interest of customer service and HUMAN DECENCY perhaps he can rent us the SUV at the same rate. Well TROY went on a unprofessional rant .. "WHO TOLD YOU TO BOOK ONLINE?! I HAVE NO CARS!" . I told TROY that he should absolutely not be employed in customer service industry if he cannot control his temper and especially if he feels like he can YELL at customers this way. I said I am positive that Budget car rental would not appreciate having an employee talk to customers that way. TROY's response was "WERE ARE INDEPENDENTLY OWNED" . EXCUSE ME? I said to him the sign behind you says "AVIS/BUDGET" not Troy's Car Rental, therefore YOU WORK for BUDGET. He said he doesn't care, that he has no cars and we need to leave. We left and I called Expedia and the rep was able to speak directly to their Budget contact and Budget advise that they reserved an intermediate car for us for $46 at the same location. I asked them to please make sure that we will have no issues with this new reservation since TROY was extremely unprofessional and adamant that he had no cars. Expedia advised that their Budget rep spoke directly to the location and our car will be waiting there as long as we get there by 3:30. I even received an email confirmation at 3:08pm directly from BUDGET, not Expedia, advising that we have a reservation for a car at $46 rate at the Sunrise Highway location in Lynbrook. We pulled into the full lot at 3:10 pm, and my entire body had not so much as stepped into the office when TROY yells out... I AM NOT RENTING YOU A CAR .. I DONT CARE WHAT THEY TOLD YOU... I said WHAT? .. He said that he spoke to his MANAGER (blatant LIE) and that he told him that we cursed at him (?????) when we came in the first time and that he will NOT rent us a car. I have worked in the customer service industry for over 30 years and I would not to curse at anyone no matter how rude and belligerent the behave. His complete lack of professionalism was NOT warranted and there was nothing that we did that would justify him refusing to rent us a car we reserved on Expedia and the subsequent car BUDGET reserved for us. I was calling and calling the manager (since the manager's business card was on the desk), but there was no answer and the mailbox was full. We had enough... we left and decided that the best route would be to contact Budget directly and file a complaint (which we did via Facebook). All my years of renting cars and I have NEVER had this type of experience and based on the other reviews, this particular location has a history of problems with customer service, a few are specifically about TROY! (and he remains employed here????) . I hope that upper management read these reviews and reevaluate the way that this location does business. I had an awfull experience with Avis in JFK airport New York. We hired a Ford Mustang as we wanted to do the whole US muscle car thing. When we received the car the interior was filthy and stank of smoke. Despite being only a year old the car was covered in scratches and scuffs. Doesnt exactly make a great impression. Staff were rude and uninterested. GPS was a rip off and didnt work half the time. There are loads of other options in this area...AVOID AVOID AVOID! read more

Just like everyone else said, avoid this place at all costs. The woman working there is pretty much useless. Upon entering she knew I came in, yet continued to eat a few more bites of her food before coming out. Also, when renting the car I presented my preferred card and then she stated that I need to show my work ID to get the discount when it clearly states what company I work for on the card. Came back a few days later to extend the rental, and no one was there with a sloppily handwritten note on the door saying "will be right back" with a cell number beneath it. Wasting my time. When I came back to return the vehicle I didn't have my work ID and she said in a tone that she would have to charge me the full rate, and that she told me twice to bring my ID in. So I had to waste more time going back home to get my ID to show the rental wench so I received the proper rate. The car really wasn't clean, there was some sort of residue in various spots on the dash etc, and the exterior wasn't that spiffy either. Since I was going to have the car for two weeks, I took it home and tidied it up myself. It's really not that hard...get it together. read more

My mom and I came this morning to pick up a car she had a reservation for and even though she was a few minutes late there was no cars in the lot. The guy told her she should've came early and that they gave it away. My family and I have been renting cars for over 10 years for our vacations and if you have a reservation for a car you're not supposed to give it away to someone else. Worst experience ever. I will never rent from Avis or Hertz again. First time I had a reservation for the weekend and when I arrived their parking lot was EMPTY. Not one single car on the lot. I was told that they had no cars and that they did not know if and when they would show up. Was told that it was up to me to call other locations to see if other locations had cars. Called all locations in Long Island and was literally laughed at at every location. Had to rent from another company. I decided to try again to rent from this place a week later, prepaid figure that it would help. Went to pick car, this time there were cars at in the lot. Waited 30 min to be told that my car was not there. Same thing o don't know when or if its coming in or not. There was no apology no empathy. It was like I was making them work. Not even an offer to upgrade for any cars. Just sorry your car is not here.... It makes no sense to me on how your run your business. You need to close up shop and retrain your entire staff fleet.. Avoid this location by any means necessary. Suzette is the name of the woman who operates the location and she has the worst customer service in the whole world. She is extremely rude, does not communicate with the customers and will try to charge you extra fees without a valid reason. So I was returning my vehicle, it was 10 am this past Sunday and there was a decent line in the location, so I had to wait about 20 minutes to start the return process. So when it is my turn to return she asks me for my rental agreement and I said I did not have it and expressed to her that I didn't have the rental agreement because I did not know I needed it. I've rented cars for over 13 years and I don't ever believe I have ever been asked for my rental agreement when returning a vehicle they normally only ask me if I'm returning or picking up and ask me for the keys. Then she stated to me the next time I rent from this location if I don't have the rental agreement that she would not allow me to return the vehicle, which I did not fully understand. Then When she starts the return process she states that I went over the 29 minute grace period and would be getting charged for extra time. I tried to explain to her that I don't think it's fair that I'm going to be charged extra for returning a vehicle late when I've been waiting in your store to return the vehicle for the last 20 mins, and then talking to her took another 5-10 mins. So while she was still being rude about the rental agreement and the grace period, a customer called to find out what time the location closed so they could come in to modify their reservation, she told them the store closed at 3:45 pm, and if they where there before then they could modify their reservation and then puts them on hold and starts talking negatively about the customer out loud to everyone in the store, which I thought was extremely unprofessional, and not to mention the store truly closed at 4 pm. When she puts the phone on hold she then told me she was going to put me on the do not rent list and I asked her for what reason. She continued to be rude, unhelpful and have horrible customer service, so I asked for her name so that I could call corporate to file a complaint. She gives me a card I walk out the store and look at it, and it says Mark on it. I just shook my head went back in the store and asked her if her name was Mark and she says yes. She then said take whatever card you want and just leave the store. So I left and called corporate and filed a complaint, but this was by far the worst experience I have had on any level in my whole life. I would also like to point out the link cation is not that clean. She literally threatened to put me on the do not rent list because I did not have a rental agreement. Never have I ever experienced more incompetence and lack of responsibility than with "Troy Williams" who "works" at this location. To make a 4 hour long nightmare short - I called this place numerous times 2 hours before my pickup time with not a single answer. I do not exaggerate when I say I must have called 40 times. I get to the store to meet "Troy" who couldn't give any less %#^*$. This man, which is an undeserved compliment, is the single most incompetent and unprofessional human I have ever dealt with in my entire life. Upon arrival at the Avis location, which is almost definitely a front for some other "business," Troy informs me that there are zero cars. Mind you, this reservation was made a month in advance and had been confirmed. Three other customers arrive with the same issue, as I am explaining to Troy the next steps he should take to alleviate the issue at hand. These three customers were basically shooed away by Troy, with a smile on his face. Troy, I hope you read this and I hope you understand how incompetent and pathetic a person you are. You should be ashamed of yourself, and I can't fathom how you sleep at night knowing that each day you accomplish nothing, aside from making good people scramble for a car they were promised at the last minute. I cannot wait to have a chat with the folks at corporate and fill them in on how this "franchise" is operating. Contract law is a fabulous thing, and this franchise is destined to have a big fat lawsuit. Do yourself a favor and stay as far away from this location and company in general. I wish I had read these reviews before my experience. We go to pick up our vehicle and they tried to give us a vehicle with the filthiest seats. Beverage stains (or worse) on all of them. We insisted on a different vehicle, which we got but then a few hours into our road trip , get an alert on the dashboard saying the car needed an oil change. When weget to a Budget/Avid near our final destination, they tried to give us a compact to replace our standard size vehicle. Of course, we refuse, finally something turns up closer to our size. We return the vehicle back to the lynbrook location and the clerk tells us we should have never called customer service for a credit of the 2 days of vacation time lost with this issue. It's just not worth the so called cheaper price to deal with poor vehiclea, horrible customer service with mediocre remedies. Stick with Enterprise!! read more

I blame the owners at this establishment. The woman at counter is totally unknowledgable as well. Horrible experience. Upon returning my rental in the middle of a downpour the attendant (most likely the same guy everyone else is complaining about) came out to check in the vehicle and verified that my tank came back full. My wife and infant daughter were still in the vehicle waiting for our ride to arrive when he rudely told her to get out now because he needed the car. Ok so my wife and myself got our daughter, her car seat and her stroller out of the car in the rain and went inside the office. Waited for 30 mins while the attendant was in multiple verbal altercations with other customers when a female associate came out to assist us. She smiled and then decided that's where polite customer service ends. She rudely asked for my papers and when I asked for a receipt she refused saying that we will get one by email. Got no email receipt but did get a bunch of extra charges. They claimed I brought back my vehicle late when they were the ones who were too busy getting yelled at by other unsatisfied customers to do my check in right away and I got charged for gas which they didn't have to refill because I brought it back full. I travel from Canada to Long Island multiple times a year and will never deal with this location again read more

Horrible experience! Rented a car online, showed up to pick up the vehicle with my confirmation and was told they had no cars and I should go home and they would call if one showed up. The 800# for customer service was no better. They told me the location in Westbury (about 8 miles away) had 'plenty' of vehicles if I could go there...was about 2 minutes away from that location when I got a call saying they had no vehicles either due to bad weather and "people walking in to get a rental' and when I questioned how a walk in could be assured of a car when I, with a reservation and confirmation was at the 2nd Avis site and still did not have a car...they hung up on me. The only reason why I'm giving one start is because yelp is making me. I never wrote a review for a place before but I am making it my business to. And I wish I read the previous ones before. This place is a joke! I don't know where to begin. I will begin with the service I was greeted with by Suzette the manger who has no managerial skills whatsoever. I was charge a hidden hundred dollar fee as soon as I walked into return the rental car parked on the lot the night before I was to bring the rental car back. Those were the first words out of Suzette's mouth. "Is there a reason why you parked our car here last night it's 100 dollars for parking overnight" in the nastiest why possible to say so. Shocked by this I stated no where did it state that in my contact or is it posted anywhere in the lot on in the dirty office. Long story short I was told to try and dispute the charges with my credit card company after I already told her to not put it on my card because I was going to pay cash and she already processed my card. Followed up by giving me the district manager Mark Smith telephone number whom he never even return my call back after telling me that those was his rules. I contact the corporate office and they told me they never heard of such fees. Making a complaint case out of it I was then told that the hundred dollar additional fee was for clean man that cigarette ashes out of the vehicle which I've never smoking a Day in my life. I did get a email from Mark stayed in that the hundred dollar fee with the tow the car that was left in the same exact spot. So what he was emailing me and what corporate was emailing me was contradicted each other. So either way if they trying to scam me for 100 dollars just for parking. Worst establishment ever! This place has horrible customer service!! I was rushed through the rental process because they had to leave to attend to VIP client...guess it didn't matter that I was still a customer. No one explained or even told me they were going to perform a DMV check before doing it, it wouldn't have been an issue because my license is clean but I would like to have been informed prior to. I was never even given a brief tutorial of the car prior to the staff and now who I've come to find out is the district/regional manager "Mark" left me alone on the lot as they drove away. A few days after returning the car, I received an email to rate their service which I did. I indicated that I felt rushed through the process etc., and surprisingly "Mark"responded and disregarded my experience totally. I will not be renting from them again! Zero stars if possible. Incredibly rude, condescending, and unhelpful. I called to inquire different type of insurance. The rep who picked up the phone did not answer the questions. Instead, she kept complaining about an echo, and stated that I was "hurting her ear". I called my cousin; he didn't hear any background noise. There seemed to be something wrong with her line - but she curtly and unsympathetically blamed it on me. When I called back, she straightly hung up on me. All my follow up calls were left unanswered and routed to voicemail. When my cousin returned the rental car, she did not honor the terms my cousin was initially offered by the manager. Normally, when you return later than your specified time, you would be charged the much more expensive hourly rate. If you were more than say 2 hours late, you would be charged the full day's price. My cousin was worried about NY traffic, so he negotiated with the manager before the rental. The manager assured my cousin that an hour or two would be forgiven. When my cousin went to return the car, however, the rep still charged him the full price in the manager's absence, even though my cousin was only half an hour late. My cousin tried to reason with her and get her to honor the agreement. She insisted on her terms self-righteously, treated my cousin like an idiot, and when we grieved, she simply took his money, threw him her manager's card and walked away. The rep's attitude was atrocious: Not only did she not provide service or even make an attempt to solve customer's problems, she was absolutely rude and careless. She treated customers as lesser beings that are a nuance to her. I could not fathom how Avis could tolerate such horrendous customer service. I would never rent from Avis or Budget again. read more

I agree with all the other bad reviews, never rent from this location. Lousy customer service, the man and the woman were both not professional at all. They never fully explained the rental agreement and held an extra $46 against the charge card; they could not explain why they were holding the traditional amount against the card. When I turned the card in, that was the total rental charge, $46 more than they originality told me what the rental charge would be. They also did not explain fully all the optional coverage's, i rented a 2017 Ford Fusion and the right front tire blew out, there was no damage to the rim, the tire just blew out. I did not purchase the additional coverage so I'm responsible for a new tire regardless of the fact that I believe it was a defective tire. I was told no reimbursement from Avis. *** AVOID AT ALL COSTS *** The entire staff that runs this location are SCAMMERS, LIARS, CHEATERS, UNETHICAL, CRIMINAL, and RUDE. There is no possibility of having a positive experience here. I am a repeat Avis customer on a major corporate contract. I normally love Avis, but this location is like going into a battle zone. It is hard to imagine that they get away with running their business the way they do. They NEVER have the car class you reserve and they will lie or make up some story to blame you for the reason they couldn't fulfill the reservation. I have been accused of "being late" and therefore forfeiting my reservation just 15 minutes after the designated reservation time. I was actually YELLED AT by the man that works there for being late. Ironic because half the time you show up there there is sign on the door that reads "be right back" and they don't return for an hour! I have also been accused by the same man of damaging a vehicle when the supposed "scratch" wiped off with spit on my finger. I have been told that I will be charged $30 per gallon for gas if I return the car less than full so I returned it to JFK instead, knowing that this location would somehow find a way to charge me. They don't clean the cars so when you have to take a car filled with the last customer's trash and dirt. This last time they actually told me that they intentionally do not clean the cars in the winter because it is too cold outside. NEVER EVER AGAIN will I rent from this location - such a shame because the location is so convenient. Thank goodness the management team and staff and JFK offer over-the-top customer service. They refunded me 50% of my last rental and told me they would escalate to the regional president. I would encourage anyone with similar experiences or problems to escalate as well. I can't imagine Avis wants the Rockville Centre staff representing their brand. read more

This is the second time I rented from this location and, both times, I had the same experience as the other reviewers. Suzette Wilkins, the owner operator of this franchise, is very rude and does not explain the requirements of the rate. I feel she is trying to add extra charges wherever possible. The first time my final bill was higher than the quote. When I asked why, she said I did not give her a receipt for the gas purchase. She did not even ask for the receipt before she added the charge and ultimately removed it. The second time my rate was $50 higher than the quote because I brought the car back 3 hours early. Whoever heard of being charged for bringing a car back early? I would have expected her to tell me at the time of rental not to bring the car back early. When I said I'll bring the car back later, she said that wasn't possible since I already turned in the car. Two calls to the district manager have not been returned. read more
