On 01 March 2022, I received an email from Avis informing me that the rental car that I had previously reserved for the following day in Utah (reserved two months prior) was no longer available.  I had already paid $80 toward this vehicle for collision insurance.   That same day I spoke with an Avis Customer Service representative during a recorded Case Conversation and he specifically advised me to reserve and pay for a similar sized and equipped vehicle at any other rental car company, and that Avis would refund me the difference in price.   On 02 March 2022, I was able to purchase a rental agreement with another company, with a total price paid that was $122.86 more.  I was forced to pay this extra price solely because of Avis carelessly giving our reserved vehicle to another customer. After countless email exchanges with Avis Customer Service, and after being repeatedly denied the ability to speak with a representative, I was finally able to get someone on the phone on 29 March.  During my phone conversation I learned that the initial representative had provided me with false information during my initial phone conversation. Further, Avis went out of their way to make customer service process almost non-existent and difficult to reach. Needless to say, I will never use Avis again, and strongly recommend others to use a different company. read more

Do not rent from this location. The office is closed. The office use to be located inside Sears but it closed. Avis is going their business outside. They had a clerk waiting in the vehicle and explained how the sears closed and they are moving but with licensing it's taking awhile. So today we had a return time for 10am. We got here at 940 and it's now 1028, and no worker is here. We have called multiple time the numbers listed, and the greeting says, voicemail is full. Not sure what is happening read more

DO NOT RENT!!! Pick-Up &Drop-Off was HORRIBLE! I Never experienced a rental car issue as BAD as I had with AVIS. I flew in town and needed a rental car last minute to attend a family emergency(death in family) Upon arriving to Sears Location the location doesn't have a physical store front, kiosk, or Signage saying "AVIS" it took 30mins to locate where to pick up. I walked inside the Manassas Mall outside the mall, Around the back of the mall. All the while calling and calling the number listed & finally I got hold of the Agent & Only to see that the Agent was operating from his CAR with a Clipboard. He sat in the car the entire time while conducting business representing a Company! I was hesitant and asked "why are you doing business from a car?" I was told by the agent onsite "due to pandemic the location didn't have a store anymore & they were working on fixing that." Which is absolutely NO excuse to Not conduct business in a Professional welcoming manner. The Process was so cringeworthy. I had to hold my driver's license and credit card up to his window and sign contract through passenger window. Under different circumstances I would've left and cancelled my reservation but I went against my judgement being that I was in dire need to get a rental. The agent was RUDE and EXTREMELY UNPROFESSIONAL. And I Will NEVER rent from Avis again and advise anyone I know Not to. P.S. The franchise owner of this Avis is deceitful and makes promises he doesn't follow thru with!! He promised to keep me at my rented daily rate if I needed to extend to find out he can't or won't change the 'system' to match his promises...charging an additional $185 for 2 days which was twice what I paid the first 3 days. We rented a car in Portland, OR and drove to Manassas, VA, where we were instructed to return our car to the sears store at the mall. The Sears store is permanently closed and so is the Avis car rental agency. We too called multiple phone numbers many times with no resolution other than to switch drop off locations for and additional $200 fee. I'm so disgusted at this point!!! I was told I would have to take it up with customers service when I return it to avoid paying late fees and location charges. Wish me luck. I will NEVER rent from Avis again!! read more

I would give them minus stars if I could. This is the worst car rental place we've ever dealt with. Be careful what they tell you!!! We were stranded when our car broke down and needed to rent a car to get home, after the towing service took our car to the dealer. Miriam rented us a car, giving us a weekly rate. She never told us that if we returned the car early that we'd have to pay the FULL amount. Plus the car she gave us was a piece of junk!! I didn't even feel safe driving it. The transmission wasn't shifting properly so the acceleration was unreliable. The engine would rev every time it had to switch up gears. The car also smelled horrible! We only drove the car home and back, and to the bus stop and back. So when we returned that car we didn't have a full tank of gas. We know that car rental companies usually charge more than the going rate for gas, but thought that with the little amount we used it wouldn't be an issue...Well, they wanted to charge us something like $9.80 for a gallon of gas. We were upset, but thought it wouldn't be a big deal since we only rented the car for one day. We did complain about the price though and as we were complaining, Mirian said I'm going to charge you 279. Well, we thought that was for the gas. My husband said, "Okay", thinking it was for the gas. So Mariam then ran our credit card as I asked for clarification and she said she was charging us $279 for the car, not for the gas!!! She never told us when renting the car that we'd have to pay $279 if we returned the car early. And, while we were there there was another couple behind us who told us they never told them they would also have to pay the full price either. They were in a similar situation where they needed the car for only a day. So they ended up keeping their car. So, it's interesting that it happened to us....but another couple was there experiencing the same thing. If that's the case, there seems to be miscommunication going on.....Avis not telling their customers everything. So, we were forced to pay $279 for using a rental car for one day! And, I tried calling the management. I left messages and no one returned my calls. It seems like they are sneaky not telling you everything just to get your money. I have also rented many cars in my lifetime all over the world and have never been treated like this. Horrible, horrible, horrible! My advice - steer clear. UPDATE: Mark Sokol, the Territory Performance Manager finally called me and listened to what transpired. He was sympathetic and said he'd call the store. I like the owner but even he cannot make up for the shoddy service. I rented a 12 passenger van over the July 4th weekend. I inspected the outside for dents. Note: They initially wanted me to sign the damage slip before I inspected the van. After I refused, it was then that she marked the dent that was on the side of the van. I looked in the inside and it was reasonably clean. As we got on the road the next morning, I get a headache and my sinuses are going crazy. I was trying to figure out what was going on when I saw the pet hair under the seat, on the seat, and on the side of the seat. It was everywhere. I called back to the Manassas location and was told to call around in the city where I was located to find another van. Note: That was the wrong advice. Needless to say, I did not get a van but was told by AVIS (800 number) that they would take something off when I got back for having all of the pet hair in the van. I dropped the van off a day early and explained to the clerk what happened and she said the system will only allow her to take $10.00 off. I told her that was unacceptable since the inside of the vehicle had clearly not been cleaned. The clerk then had the audacity to ask me if I inspected the vehicle before I got it. I told her yes, the outside, I did not inspect for cat hair. She then smirked and dropped that line when I got in her butt. She then called the owner and he told her I think (because she was speaking in her native tongue) what was going on and he told her to give me $20 off. When I called corporate today, I found out the clerk lied. How much they knock off for problems with the vehicles is up to the location. I would not rent here anymore. This was my second time and I should have learned the first time when I had issues. Go to the airport location or better yet, select another car rental company. read more

Beware, do not waste your time renting from this location! Dishonest branch who made up lies that they weren't able to rent me a car because of my credit history. Little did they know that my credit score is 750+ and how did they get my social to run a credit check? I never provided it. It may have been because they had 1 car left and I got a hell of a deal through Costco. read more

This location is co-branded with Budget, at which I made an appointment. The website lists local pickup, but what they fail to mention is that they do not pick up after 4pm. I cancelled my reservation and made one at the nearby Enterprise, which picks up until 5:30 (and closes at 6p, like Budget). Plus, this Avis/Budget's on-phone service was less than stellar. read more
