This is a weird one because drop off was great but pick up was odd. I only rent Avis and if the pick up was my first impression, I would probably never come back. I've rented from Avis multiple times a year so when the front desk person was pushy about me getting insurance even though I told them that I have to decline their cdw because of my credit card (they provide me with primary coverage), she wouldn't take that answer. I provided my card's policy and my personal insurance as proof that I will be covered liability-wise but she was at the point of not allowing me to rent the vehicle. So weird. And she never gave me a rental agreement copy. But dropping off was great. The shuttle drivers expecting tips or they give you attitude is a bit weird. read more

At SFO waited four hours for a car did not even come close to getting the level status of a car. I ordered very disappointed no way out never again.!!!!!! The staff was very unaccommodating/very overwhelmed/very understaffed very accommodating. He's literally had no cars that's why everyone was upset and was kept waiting for so long worst experience in life.!!!!! ruined our trip!!!! read more

Buffalo Airport waited over an hour and a half just to go wait into another line to pick up the key never again! The absolute worst!

I am giving a review here instead of my local business because at the Modesto CA airport location, the employees were wonderful. However, the representatives and management in the Avis help lines and main business were mostly who I had a problem with. I will try to make short version: 1. I reserved a Kia Soul but even though they had some on the lot, I was told a truck was coming to pick them up that day so I couldn't have one. I specifically requested that because we had a wheelchair, but instead was given a smaller car with a "big trunk". The wheelchair did not fit so there was no way we could have used this vehicle. 2. Also, on the way to my son's house to load up, a maintenance light came on, so when I arrived, I tried to get ahold of the pick up location but there was NO number ANYWHERE on the forms they gave me. 3. So I called the main number for Avis and after going round about with the recorded options, I finally was able to talk to a real person. By this time the pick up location was CLOSED. 4. I told them my situation and they said they could have a tow truck pick up the car and get me another. I told them the Avis at the airport was closed and they said if it is they would move on to another option, so I figured they had something else in mind. They called and of OF COURSE it was closed just like I told them and so was the other one in town. 5. Their only option was to have the tow truck take the car and we wait until morning to exchange. I had booked a hotel room for 3 days so I wanted to leave that night so we don't lose our reservation. Fortunately, after 30 minutes of going round and round with this phone call, my friend said she would loan us her car (that had a hatchback like we needed) so I decided to leave the rental at her house while we were gone. 6. The next morning I called Avis again and asked about my friend returning the rental car that day so I wouldn't have to pay for the 4 days I had reserved. They told me no. I HAD TO PAY FOR THE 4 DAYS EVEN THOUGH I WASN'T USING THE VEHICLE and I wasn't able to return it early. ??? So with nothing else to do, we left for our trip and the car remained in my friend's driveway. BECAUSE we were late to our hotel there was also a BIG mess that happened there but that's a whole 'nother review. 7. When we got back home, I returned the vehicle and told the nice employees at Modesto CA airport Avis the situation and they informed me that YES I could have returned the car early and would have been fine paying for the one day. !!!!! They also informed me that the maintenance light that was on just meant the car had an oil change and they hadn't reset the light so the car was probably fine. !!!! THIS WAS NOT COMMUNICATED ON THE PHONE WITH THE AVIS REPRESENTATIVE AT ALL! I wish I would have remembered their name because they should be fired for giving false information. 8. I was charged the amount reserved, they didn't have a choice, but they suggested I email Avis for a refund because the mileage on the car obviously proved I had driven it home and back again and it was otherwise sitting in a driveway for 4 days. They even had me take a photo of the mileage so I had proof. So I emailed Avis and explained the situation and their reply included and apology and a $174.02 refund. Which I am grateful for but I PAID $317.77! So I essentially I am OUT $143.75 for a vehicle I DID NOT USE and nothing happened was MY fault. Ridiculous. 9. On top of that, they included this in the email: "For future reference, you may choose to exchange the vehicle as soon as possible, or at your earliest convenience at the nearest Avis location. Please do not feel that you have to keep driving if the vehicle issues make you feel unsafe. You may also contact our Emergency Roadside Assistance to arrange an exchange, and if the vehicle is not drivable they will arrange to bring you an exchange vehicle." This was AFTER I had already told them the location was closed and an exchange was impossible! I guess they just skimmed over my email. I did tell them I will not be using Avis again. They didn't care because I never heard back. This was almost a month ago. read more

The pickup process was smooth and well-organized, and the car we received for our trip around Ireland was excellent. The only reason I'm giving a "maybe" recommendation is due to the after-hours return process. There was no clear signage for Avis, and while other rental companies had signs, they were vague and unhelpful. It took us an unexpectedly long time to figure out that we needed to drive to the Terminal 2 short-term parking area, then take the lift back up to Level 3 where the rental desks are located in order to return the keys. It's possible this information was mentioned at pickup or included in an email that I overlooked, but clearer on-site instructions would have made the return much easier especially at 2am. read more

She shows me, sure enough my car is in longer so i had to extend a few times. What they dont say is every time you do they tack on another $10 fee. I went on-line on a Wednesday morning to Avis Dale Rd, Modesto location to reserve a car to be picked up the following day. I only visited the Dale Rd location AFTER no one picked up the phone at the airport location. We needed to visit VA Hospital in Palo Alto the next day and be on the road no later than 9:00 a.m.to see my brother who was not expected to live. I received a confirmation saying my car had been reserved. We arrived at 8:30 a.m. to pick up the car and waited for about 15 minutes before being waited on. We were told the SUV I had reserved AND had confirmation for was not available. The agent then said they had tried to call me to let me know but that is not true. We were home all afternoon and they did not call, leave a voice mail or call my cell. The agent then proceeded to tell me they didn't have a car at all as they were a small facility. They did not offer to try their other location but they told me I could drive across town and see if they could help me. No "sorry we can't help you, hold on and let me see what I can do", nothing like that. What a bunch of unprofessional jerks they have in their locations. I will never use Avis again and hope you don't either. read more

Whether it's for a vacation or family medical trips, I've rented vehicles from every car rental in town. Since I've rented at Avis, I don't need to go anywhere else. The customer service at this location is what brings me back, but it helps that they have the best rates and great cars. These people are awesome and they're always really helpful and friendly. Returned a car after having it for 1 week, she gave me attitude and went out to go check the car, comes back inside and tells me that she normally does not accept car that are that dirty. IT WAS NOT DIRTY. There was a couple of seeds on the floor mats. OMG. She's rude and goes on to tell me that she just doesn't like to have her guys have to clean up something unsanitary, Well I'm sure the're going to use the vacuum cleaner. GEEZ rude women...put a sign or let people know that you don't want the cars to be returned uncleaned. Rented a 12 passenger van through costco. Picked up the Sears in Modesto. The customer service person was extremely rude and dishonest. She will change what she says when you rent and when you drop off. She will not tell you things and when you return it then tell you you should have done something. They will charge you if you bring it back with less gas but won't give you fuel credit if you bring it back with more (even though at rental time they say they will). Just beware. Avis/Budget on Dale Road at Vintage Fair Mall is the best location to rent. It is much more convenient for me than renting at the airport and the quality of the customer service is exceptional. Angela is the owner/operator and she always takes great care of me and my wife. We have rented there at least six times. Angela has gone out of her way to help us and is always super friendly and helpful. She will go out of her way to make sure you're taken care of. I would definitely rent from them! read more
