After a cancelled flight from Chicago to D.C., I was rebooked to Pittsburgh. Avis let me rent a last-minute car for $175 to D.C. Justin at the Avis counter, which is inside the airport near baggage claim, was friendly and fast! Once I was set to go, I crossed the street to the parking garage and waited for my car to arrive. That took about 20 minutes, longer than Justin said, but it was alright. I recommend Avis! read more

worst checking in process ever @ Pittsburgh airport. waited over an hour to collect car due to one person checking people in for Avis and Budget car rental. This is after 8 hour flight from London. so slow, loads of very young children getting restless and I felt so sorry for the parents as they had no choice but to wait Won't ever use them again. Jeff Santa must've gotten his MBA at Clelian Heights, because I can't see him being anywhere but the bottom of any class regarding the administration of business. Highly recommend National as the alternative to this insanely poorly run outfit. Luckily, Jeff blacklisted me from ever potentially using any Avis, despite the status I enjoyed and my positive experiences at every other branch, because I hurt his feelings speaking plainly in response to his poorly timed, automated status check in email as I sat with my two young kids on a curb at 3 am without vehicle. Guy's way too soft to be from Pittsburgh. He's probably from Cleveland. Like the Browns, this Avis location could use a couple years off to try to regroup before returning again to be the worst location in car rentals. It's UNBELIEVABLE that AVIS in PIT would have me drive this unclean, dented, marked for repair with big white X's in several places (have 4 photos that wouldn't load in Yelp, but they did in Trip Advisor), piece of junk for 9 days, and still make me pay full price! No one could believe it either. I made my reservation with AVIS. Then I received a 35% OFF email from AVIS, so I booked again using the 35% OFF email; however, the final fee was more expensive then my original reservation. I will NEVER use AVIS again. They never have car seats ready so be prepared to wait at least 15-20 minutes for car seats. Their preferred counter is a joke, so add another 10 minutes waiting for help. I'm not sure why I keep renting from this location. Maybe it's just the ease. I have an account already and it is super easy to book on the website. Maybe it is the price. Typically it is the cheapest out of the brands I trust since I won't touch Budget with a 100 ft pole. Or maybe it's just laziness. It is just so easy. But yet every time I come here I am greeted with cool contempt. This latest time the man in the preferred booth practically growled at me when I came to pick up my rental tossing the keys and staring at me slacked jaw. I walked away to hear him complain about his job and lot in life. The car had garbage in it. I had to spend time clearing it out. This was easily spotted garbage - in the cup holders and door pockets large pieces of plastic like from blister packs and bottle seals and paper towels. The car was dirty on the outside. When I dropped it off the attendant barely looked me in the eye and said nothing. I am seriously wondering about the work conditions here to keep encountering such disgruntled employees and poorly maintained cars. read more

Beware as they will charge you for alleged damage to the driver's footwell of the vehicle. $119 for what they initially claimed was "Dent damage" but then when I called said it was for detailing. I needed a car for a work visit in the airport area of Pittsburgh and used this Avis... Booked it through the web, which is always easy. When I arrived to pick up the car, I was advised to go straight out to the garage, where there's a counter there. They gave me a car, a RAV4 that just got cleaned and it was just OK. It had about 40,000 miles on it and it was based out of Florida (had FL tags) and too much dark tint on the side windows and sun visor area of the windshield, which I don't prefer. But, dropping off was easy and the gentleman checking me in was efficient and friendly. Overall, I'd use this rental car location again. read more

On Saturday, the Preferred booth in the garage is closed. So someone like me who has Preferred status and therefore I get to bypass the counter will bypass the counter, go out to the garage thinking that his name is going to be on a board, see that the booth is closed, have to go back inside to find the counter, wait in a queue, get keys to a car, go back to the garage, see that something is wrong with the car, go back inside to the counter, find out that the damage on the car is already documented then go back out to the garage. My car is a year old Kia Forte with 26000 miles on it. read more

I made a reservation online for this location in the morning before arriving. Upon arriving at the counter I was greeted courteously by a gentleman that had a very heavy accent making it very difficult to understand the policies he was trying to get me to agree to or decline. I had prepaid, so he game me my paperwork and sent me out to the garage with a row and a car type to locate my rental. Upon arrival my car was not in the garage. I searched the row and couldn't find it so I went to the booth. That guy was very short with me and told me to give it a few minutes as they were bringing it over from the reserve lot. About 10 min later the car arrives (I stood in 23° weather that entire time) the guy hops out. Asks for my contract verifies they match and hands me the keys and walks off. No inspection, no further instructions, no directions to the exit. Nothing. I was staying an hour away and immediately got on the road. Upon arriving at my hotel I noticed damage to the car. Looked like someone hit a curb. I called the next day to report the damage and spoke to Wendell. He had a pretty snarky attitude with me and as we were hanging up he sighed and said "enjoy your the rest of your trip" with an exasperated tone. Today when I checked the vehicle back in I pointed out the damage to the attendant in the return line and told him it was supposed to have been marked in my account already. He told me I was good to go and t probably just wasn't marked with a "white x" yet. We will see what happens.... read more

Prepaid and reserved for my father a 7-seat van a month in advance. We even showed up at the pickup location 1 hour ahead. The staff there just said they ran out of 7-seat vans, and there's nothing they can do. Attitude was bad too. The staff's literal word was "First come first serve, that's how it works in rental car world". No sincere apology whatsoever... Excuse me, what's the point of reserving, paying in advance, selecting a pickup time then if it's "first come first serve". Plus, as when we asked for a refund, they just threw us a customer service number to call. We also had two elderly 80+ years old. One of the worst service experiences I have ever had. Absolutely no regard for customer care. I made the unfortunate mistake of losing the keys to my rental vehicle. (A bone-headed move on my part that I was more than willing to accept responsibility for. I left the keys on the hood of the car but because it was a push button start, the car was running when I pulled away with the keys on the hood. The keys were lost but the car remained running which allowed me to get it back to the Avis location without the keys). However, the service I received from this location throughout the process was miserable. It started when I realized I lost the keys. I called the location 7-8 times on Friday evening to let them know of the situation. The phone was not answered. It never even went to a recorded message. It just rang nonstop. After 7-8 times, I called corporate support who confirmed that I had the phone number correct and that they were still open. I was on track to return the car at 2 am (after they closed) without the key. Corporate advised me to park the car at the return location and use the after hours drop box to deliver my return details (on the contract folder) and include a note that the keys were lost. I did this. At 1 pm the next day (Saturday), I got a call from the return attendant (Katie) who told me that she could not locate the keys. I told her that I included a note on the contract folder that I put in the drop box, and she proceeded to tell me that she just got in and did not look in the drop box. Which - if she was calling me b/c she could not find the key - she had to have checked the dropbox first). She then told me that I would be required to pay for two keys plus every day that the car can't be used. I expected to pay for the replacement key (one, not two since there was only one key on the ring), but nowhere did the contract state I would be charged for every day that the car could not be used. She could not give me a reason other than "I can't check the car in without the key". I asked to speak to her manager. She told me "I don't know where my manager is and I only have his cell phone number which I am not allowed to give out." I told her I wanted the manager to call me so she said she would let him (David) know, however he was going to be leaving soon and that the next manager on duty was Justin. After six hours, I did not receive a phone call back. I tried several times to call the location, and just like Friday evening, the phone was never answered. I literally called another dozen times over a one hour period and nobody picked up the phone! So, I drove back to the location and spoke to Justin in person. The first thing he told me was that "everyone here wants to kill you". He said it to try and be funny, but quickly realized it was a poorly-timed to joke. He apologized. He then told me that the information that the return attendant told me was extreme, and that I probably would just be charged for the replacement key. However he could not confirm and I would need to call his manager on Monday morning. He gave me her name (Shannon) and number and told me to try her at 9 AM. I proceeded to tell him that I called their location 20 times over the past two days and nobody answered the phone. He told me his is not surprised to hear this because they can't hear the phone ring due to where it is located! How is that an acceptable reason and how has it not been addressed operationally? Pathetic. Literally 20+ times I called and nobody answered. Just think of all of the poor customer experiences this location has had because they don't answer the phone! Anyway, Monday morning I called Shannon. I told her who I was. She told me she was not up to speed on the details yet and I offered to share more information with her. She said yes, and then asked me if she could "call me right back". She never called back. I called her at around 5 PM and left a voicemail. Still have not heard back after 24 hours. Still have no idea what the final resolution is. I have every intention of paying for the replacement key - I lost it and accept that consequence. I will never, ever, rent from this location again. Had a confirmed reservation when I arrived the AVIS desk was closed with a sign that said they were out of cars. Try calling customer service it was outside of the hours that they have a person answering the phone, the recording said go online for customer support. Walked to every other rental car agency at the airport no other agency was giving out cars to walk ups without a prior reservation. They didn't want to leave their customers stranded. It was after midnight at this point, and I had no choice but to find a hotel room for the evening and call for Uber to take us there. Could not Uber to final location for this trip as it was over 3 hours from the airport. Called the Avis line when they opened the next morning only to be told that the airport still did not have cars available, and the off-airport Avis location was not open on Sundays. Totally de-railed my entire trip, left me with extra expense of Uber and hotel room and still NO CAR. read more
