I had a seriously unsafe and unacceptable experience at the Hertz Pittsburgh International Airport location, made worse by the aggressive and dismissive behavior of a staff member named Bryan, who refused to help me and treated me with clear disrespect. The rental car I received had dangerously poor headlights--while they technically turned on, they did not light the road properly, making it extremely unsafe to drive at night. When I contacted Hertz Roadside Assistance, I was told to go to this location to exchange the vehicle. The first time, I was told no cars were available. After being directed by customer support to return, I went back--only to be denied service again. Bryan told me they don't exchange vehicles for "personal preferences," even though I clearly explained it was a safety issue. All I asked for was a car with headlights that actually work--something that should be standard in 2025. Even the Roadside Assistance agent tried to contact this location and got no response. According to Hertz's own rental terms, customers are entitled to request a vehicle exchange when the vehicle is unsafe or not in proper working condition. My request was completely valid and should have been handled with urgency and respect. I hope Hertz corporate investigates this location and takes meaningful action. I thought I was having a great experience, President's Circle, great car quick in and out. Dropped the car off, he said you're good to go. Got my email receipt a few minutes later and they added an underage driver fee. I'm 54. Chatted with customer service and they said it was my fault for not putting my birthday on my profile. If I could leave NO STARS, I would. First I get in and there are signs for Hertz directing us outside. I go outside to find that is for Gold or Platinum members and instead of just helping me they directed me back inside. There were about 7-8 people ahead of me but the lady working for Hertz was taking her sweet time. The first guy had issues with his credit card, the next lady did not have a credit card and had to get a member of their party to redo the reservation. Even once another representative started helping it STILL took 45 minutes for me to even get up to the counter! It was so disorganized, slow, and they need more people to help. Added on top of that, their protection for the car was $34 a day and then they charge fees on top of that even though I had already paid in full! I had to pay another $142 total for my 3 days. Other car companies don't charge that much and certainly don't charge fees if you've already paid in full. I rented a car from hertz for a trip to PA . While in the state I was struck with an illness and hospitalized. As I was 2 hrs from the airport and being transported by ambulance to another town, I called hertz to see if they could come get the car . Thier answer was that they would have to tow the car and charge me $400 for the tow. Not wanting to pay that charge I again explained the situation and asked to extend the rental 1 more day so that a friend could bring it back. The woman on the phone said no. She proceeded to inform me that if the car was not returned on time they would report it stolen and have me arrested, and that NO-ONE could change that policy!! I tried to find the Uber rental location on McKnight RD but there isn't a place to post a review for them. My issue is company wide though so this will work. After an accident I needed to reserve a rental in order to work. After an entire day of running in circles I was finally able to get someone to answer the phone at the Greentree location (shout out to Matt for all of his help). He was able to get me in the right direction because the information online is incorrect. I went online, made my reservation for later that day. My best friend drove 45 minutes to me and then an hour and 20 minutes with her sick kid to take me. When I got to the rental location I was told that I was lucky there was a car for me. Apparently the website lets you make reservations without actually knowing if there is a car available. I was told I would be able to work as soon as I took possession of the car. Technically I could have. However, the car was TRASHED when I got it and it reeked of cigarettes. It took me an entire can of febreeze and an hour of cleaning the car before I felt like I could use it for work...and even then I had to put seat covers on the seats because they are so stained up. The photos they took are not at all accurate to what I received. This car was disgusting and had I had any other option, I would have taken it. This company should be ashamed of itself. read more

The service desk was good. Honest upfront agent told me even with additional insurance coverage there was only $1,000 damage coverage when I have the car with OUT a passenger. I mean, the point IS to Rideshare RIGHT! Who in their right mind would dare to drive this Uber rideshare car might such low amounts of coverage let alone drive it and hit someone or something. I kept it 3 days I did personal local errands. I found this to be unbelievably unsafe for the driver and people on the streets. Hertz and Uber can do much better for Uber drivers to put the driver at such RISK! read more

I reserved a vehicle and was confirmed but I did not get the vehicle I reserved. My issue with Hertz is their customer service contact by phone sucks. I have been on the phone for lost and found for an hour and a half. I was hung up on and disconnected. It says someone will be with you shortly or have the option to have them call back. I did that last weekend, and I never received a callback, so I called again only to be hung up on and also disconnected. After several attempts with customer service, I finally talked with Louese who was very helpful. I am pissed off at the run around that you get for help, it's like they hope you will give up. I will hopefully never have to rent a vehicle again. Tried to rent a car but because I didn't have a return airline ticket they refused to rent me a car. HOWEVER, they took my $600 and held it for more than 3 weeks. If i could give negative stars i would. I was going on a business trip ( I work for Intuit-- we run a TON of business through Hertz) We have numerous trips to multiple places Worldwide. The only part of this process that was not painful was the return. Its safe to say I will be extremely hesitant when booking car rentals in the future. This review isn't really about the local office, it's about the company. I arranged to rent a car for an upcoming trip. I provided my flight information on the form as requested. After that, I received a barrage of texts and emails insisting that I "check in." I tried, but they had me listed on the wrong airline, and the correct airline was not on their drop-down list, and I could not type it in. They also had me listed for the wrong kind of car, and I couldn't fix that either. The messages kept saying that check-in would close 15 minutes before my reservation, which made it sound as if I had to get to the desk early. Finally, their very last automated message admitted that they would hold the reservation for me anyway. Then, when I arrived, they didn't have the kind of car I had requested (economy). The clerk said she had given me a "free upgrade," but I didn't want an upgrade! I wasn't comfortable driving a larger car! Hertz: get your automated systems right, don't browbeat people into using them if they don't want to, and provide the kind of car they asked for. Thank you. read more

Will never use Hertz again. Tried multiple times to contact someone at this location when I got to my gate because I realized I'd left something valuable in the rental car. I was never able to speak to anyone at this location. I filled out an online "lost & found" report which is a joke because all I got were automated responses that they were still looking for my item. Very unhappy with Hertz. According to the associate and company policy, the "underage fee" was supposed to expire 9/30. I picked my rental up on 10/1 but they extended the fee period the day before. The associate told me it would be refunded when I return the vehicle. They did not honor their word, and I still had to pay $145 even though when I booked the car, the rental period was outside of the underage fee period. It went from $42/a day to $98/day accounting for taxes and fees. I've rented with Enterprise multiple times in the past and will definitely be sticking with them in the future. read more

My otherwise awesome experience with this Hertz location (great car, great garage associates) was completely soured by their front desk agent. She was not communicative, and signed me up for the damage loss waiver despite me not wanting it. That particular electronic signature screen made it hard to tell that I was accepting the waiver when I thought I was declining it, and the agent was no help in this process. Unfortunately, the printed rental summary of charges was misleading in my opinion so I didn't notice the discrepancy until it was too late. Front desk service is terrible. Most of the workers have attitude and just come off like they hate their job. I rented a car for 10 days and when I showed up with a triple A membership to get my under 25 age fee waived as it SAYS ON THE WEBSITE. They refused to waive it because I already paid. When I asked if I could re do the reservation and she tried to charge me way more than initially. At the end I just told her to cancel it and got a reservation at budget for 500$ more which is fine considering how late the reservation was made. The worst part of this is when I called hertz they said the reservation was never cancelled meaning she never cancelled it and things could've been way worse for me so always make sure to do that because they are lazy and spiteful. My favorite Hertz Airport location by a mile....this place is always slammed, but the folks who work here are super friendly. I always have the same group of ladies working the check-in counter when I arrive. They ALWAYS greet you with a smile and are extremely helpful...you can really tell that they enjoy their job. Returning your car is a piece of cake too. They always have more than enough folks there to get you out in less than a minute. Heads up...if you fill your win tank with gas...bring the receipt...this is one of few Hertz locations that does ask for it. No biggie...just be prepared. A big salute to the branch manager that runs the Pittsburgh Airport Location....very well done! read more

On 3/21, the airport location failed miserably. Their computer system crashed. i understand system failures occur on occasion; I have no idea how often it occurs for Hertz. This may have been once in eons for them but the fact is that it happened to us. That wouldn't even be the biggest issue if their staff had handled the situation professionally, courteously, and with some grace. But that didn't happen. The "special folks", the frequent renters with their Hertz rewards system in place (of which we were not one of), have their own line. I get that. However, in a crisis (system failure counts as a crisis), someone on the front line (a manager, perhaps) should step up and figure out how to handle the growing crowd in line, most in the "non-reward" line. It appeared that there was no dedicated staff for the non-rewarders so that every rewarder got first dibbs on any staff available at the counter. With the system being down, staff was having to write out in long hand all the rental info which took an extremely long time per person. The non-rewarders had nearly no chance of being waited on. Note that we would have gone to a different counter just feet away but I thought I had a brilliant idea by booking with Hotwire and pre-paying... never again. We were stuck in this line no matter how long it was going to take. I just wonder why a manager didn't step up and figure out that 1) an announcement to everyone in line would be warranted that there was a problem but they were handling it; please be patient, etc. and 2) a dedicated sales person needed to be slotted for the non-rewarders to help ease the pain of the wait and 3) staff could smile and apologize profusely about the inconvenience (they didn't even acknowledge the issue, much less apologize). Based on this one experience that, yes, I realize was a one-off occurrence most likely, I am taking my business elsewhere, anywhere else, lowest price via Priceline/Hotwire be damned. Questioned me like I was trying to fraudulently rent a car even though I showed my rental reservation, license AND US passport. She started speaking to me in a LOUD, SLOW manner as if I couldn't speak English (which I do being born and raised here). When I responded in the same tone as her (slow and loud) she became irate and refused to rent me a car. I'd hate to think it was due to racism but it was so blatant. Haven't had that happen in over a decade. Anyway, I asked to speak to a manger. She walked to the back yelling loudly that I want to speak to a manager. Hertz has THE worst customer service. After being a "Gold" member and renting many vehicles through Hertz, you would think someone would care to at least try to fix a problem. My driver's license number was apparently fraudulently used in an attempt to rent a vehicle. The license did not match my name, state, DOB or anything else, just my driver's license number. I sat in the airport not allowed to leave in my vehicle (yes they still accepted my reservation and did not tell me prior to arrival) on hold for 90 minutes trying to get a resolution. I missed the meeting I flew into town for. At that point I was told me what happened a month prior and told me I never could rent through Hertz again because of it. Upon further attempt when I returned home to restore my ability to rent through Hertz, I am being told the only way to restore my account is to go the the DMV and completely change my license and get a new license number. I HAVE TO GET A NEW IDENTITY TO RENT THROUGH HERTZ DUE TO A FRAUDULENT ATTEMPT...THAT IS THE BEST RESOLUTION THEY CAN COME UP WITH. I feel like a practical joke has been played on me. I've rented from Hertz for a good while now and always had a great experience previously. With this new rental experience here at Pittsburgh international airport was no different. I'd definitely recommend Hertz for your rental car needs. I'm glad that the car rental counter for Hertz, as well as the other national car rental companies, were actually in the terminal next to the baggage claim area at Pittsburgh international airport. There is no waiting for a car rental shuttle, so that was just awesome! Just walk across the street to the car rental garage after getting your car keys, find your car, and off you go. I got my car rental deal through Priceline.com and compared it with other 3rd party sites, along with Hertz.com. For me, cheaper the better, so I'm not a loyal member of their loyalty program. While I do recognize the benefits of the loyalty program, $$ is the driving force in saving it. I rented the car for 5 days on a recent rental here at Pittsburgh, PA and the journey was epic and amazing, especially when you can put out 2 marathons in between. The overall experience renting from Hertz here in Pittsburgh was good and positive. The lady at the counter was professional and friendly. She made renting a car fun and exciting. This Hertz rental car is located adjacent to the Pittsburgh international airport (PIT). It's definitely convenient to I-376 and I'm thankful that there is no rental car shuttle to wait for to take me to the facility, places like SEA and ATL come to mind. Prices here can range greatly, depending on the class of car you want to rent. From economy to luxurious, vans, and other forms of transportations are at your fingertips. For me, I prefer to get the cheapest one, obviously. That usually means getting the economy car. Sometimes, it can be the compact car. For this rental here at Pittsburgh Hertz, I got a economy car - which ended up being a red Nissan Versa. The car itself drove beautifully and had no problems on the road. I opted for the basic insurance package, which included the Loss damage waiver and the road side assistance. While I do not have personal car insurance, going through my credit card would be a hassle, if something were to happen. So, I just get the car rental insurance directly from the company. It's piece of mind when I rent a car with Hertz (or anyone). Like all car rental companies, Hertz accepts the major credit cards, which is pretty much industry standard these days. For the most part, this rental car experience with Hertz was as good and decent as I've ever had. The rental car was clean and well maintained, as usual. It had about 30,000 miles already and it was an incredible piece of machinery. I really liked the Nissan Versa, but my favorite cars to drive is the chevrolette Sebring and the Hyundai Elantra. I would definitely recommend Hertz rental car for all your travel needs on the ground. For flights, see airlines. I would give Hertz Pittsburgh airport at least 4.0 stars. It would be 5 stars, if it was cheaper. Too bad they levy a lot of taxes and fees to the end consumer. Oh well. Whenever you need wheels for work, play, or other, Hertz will get you there in style. The check in process was nice. Asked for the car that had an EZ pass / I pass transponder already installed on the vehicle, in case I went through toll roads. The check in process was seamless. I rented a car and the women at the desk were so unprofessional and rude. As soon as a customer left they started talking about her so bad Absolutely disrespectful, and did it in front of me. They rented me a smoke smelling car, then changed it out to a car that obviously had mechanical problems. The car broke down in the middle of the street, had to be pushed to the side of the road. Could not get anyone to answer emergency roadside service! I had to call AAA to help me. They said it was a bad fuel pump. I finally got someone on the phone at Hertz, who was the only person helpful. I left the car there and they had to pick it up. They are awful!
