It was super easy to rent a car from Alamo at the Pittsburgh airport. We were in our vehicle and out on the road within five minutes. I booked through Expedia, expecting a BMW X7 or Range Rover, but when I arrived and those weren't available, Anthony personally made sure I was taken care of. We had requested a Nissan Rogue or similar, but when we arrived at 12:30 am, there were none. They told us we could wait and one might come in. We ended up with a Volkswagen Golf, which was very small. The driver side windshield wiper was ripped and unfortunately it rained a lot on our trip. The only redeeming quality was the gas mileage and the fact it had a little zip to it. They did give us a credit because it wasn't the car we reserved, but we still had to drive around for 10 days in a small car. read more

Rented an Altima at the Pgh airport. When we got the car, we saw the right rear tire had a low pressure warning. They filled it up, looked for a screw, nail, didn't see one. During that time, a Carolla showed up. They gave us the choice of keeping the Altima or switching to the Carolla. We stuck with the Altima. Later the next day, the low pressure warning went off again. By the end of the 4 days we had the car, we were having to fill it up in the morning, and at night, so it would be ok the next morning. Quite a bother. When we returned the car, we told them about the tire, and they did note that they'd have to take care of it, and not just let another customer be bothered with it. Plus, they didn't charge us for the car size upgrade we got. So in the end, not happy about the stupid tire, but we managed, and Alamo made it right with us. read more

The biggest difficulty I had was locating the car-rental counters at this airport (just next to the escalator that brings you out from the 'train' from the main concourse building). The line was fairly short and moved well. Alamo appears to share a counter with Enterprise here. The agent was helpful and efficient. You then proceed down past the baggage carousels to the last door on your left, cross the passenger-drop-off lane, and enter the main garage. All the rental car companies are here. We were met by a pair of roaming agents who checked our paperwork and directed us to the cars we could select from. We were offered 3 Chevy Cruzes (but in varying colors...). I picked grey. The car itself was fine (though I'm not a huge Chevy fan after having driven a Chevette for a few years early on). There were only 2 of us, so despite being on the small side it was roomy enough. We only made it through 3/4 of a tank in our 3 days in the area. The airport actually has one gas station on-premises (presumably for fill-ups prior to returning the car?); there didn't seem to be a lot of other gas choices within 5 miles or so of the airport. No complaints, overall. read more

Yesterday I had to get creative with my commute. There was some serious weather in Chicago, and all the flights to CLE and CAK were pretty much cancelled. Enter Pittsburgh. The car rental was a fantastic experience. It is just under two hours to get home, and I was so pleased that I caught a flight to PIT, instead of getting trapped in ORD. Customer service was superior. Very quick. No line. Super friendly. The drop off in CAK was fantastic too. I got a great rate for a one-way drop off, and I will use Alamo again as an alternative to get home when flights aren't looking great to fly into Cleveland or Akron. New car with only 500 miles. Clean. Easy to drive. Great gas mileage (Hyundai Elantra). Thanks, guys for being awesome. read more

It was super easy pick-up & drop-off with Alamo, really pleased with how friendly the service was, how quickly I was checked in and then also how easy it was to get my car and drive off. I also got a water bottle. I'm also glad that I took the option to fill up Gas from them - the cost per gallon was $2.21 gallon and the cost at the nearest gas station was $2.46 so definitely more cost effective. He made our return very easy whilst maintaining utmost professionalism and a great sense of humor! He made my wife and 4 yr old laugh and asked about our trip! Squeaked up to a 3 star because of cost and smooth pick-up/drop-off experience, but beware- Spouses don't drive free and bad tires... 1) Imagine my surprise when, after being told 'no' by both the desk clerk AND the person down at the pick-up kiosk when I asked if there was a charge for my spouse to drive, I was charged an additional $227 at the end for having my husband added as a driver. Now, I am not maligning the policy itself, just the the under-informed staff who didn't tell me I'd be charged. I wouldn't have added him if I had known that to be the case. However, when I called Alamo customer service they DID remove the charge. 2) We rented a minivan for winter driving in NW Pennsylvania.The tread on the front tires was poor and ALL tires were at least 10 PSI too low starting out. We filled all 4 and then had to fill the front ones a second time! Not fun in sub-zero temperatures putting air in the tires at gas stations, not to mention that we had to stop at several places until we found one that had air available. Alamo customer service is mailing us a free day for the inconvenience. 3) I rented WAY before the trip back in July and got a killer cheap rate for a holiday rental, so I guess we got what we paid for? read more

Am currently renting a car from Alamo Pittsburgh Airport. Had a medical emergency and needed to extend my contract. Called Costco and Alamo corporate and they both said I needed to directly contact the airport office to extend my contract at the current rate. I've made 8 calls over 4 hours. Left messages. No calls back. Nothing. No one answers the phone. Very unprofessional. Very upsetting. It's exacerbating a family medical crisis. Still waiting for a call back. I rent a car for work every week. I have alternated between Budget and Hertz the last 6 months but are pretty fed up with the cars they've given me so I thought I'd try another company. I ended up with the best rate from Alamo for this week and next week. Alamo does have an online check in for your reservation but it's not as quick as Budget/Hertz. If you sign up for the FastBreak or Gold Plus program with Budget/Hertz, all you have to do is go up to the counter and they will hand you the keys - nothing to sign. With the online check-in with Alamo, you still need to initial and sign in the documentation, still fast... just not as fast. ;) The gentleman that assisted me today was friendly and helpful. I look forward to my next rental. read more

I had used Priceline to rent a car for my boyfriend, recieved a comfirmation number and instructions on what would be needed for check in. As soon as they saw he had a Priceline receipt, they said they couldn't look him up or find his reservation. They wouldn't take a credit card over the phone or help us (I was on the phone with him during the check in process) despite the circumstances. My boyfriend took a red eye flight there to see his grandmother in her deathbed and the people at Alamo were unmoved and unwilling to help him out. Took our business to the Enterprise counter instead and received much better service and just some downright human compassion. read more

I have not rented from Alamo in the Pittsburgh airport before so as a first, I did not know what to expect. After checking in at the airport counter I was told to go to the booth in the garage for further assistance. I asked him to just tell me what type of car of slot I have and I can assist myself. He said I would need to see an attendant at "the booth". I rent cars almost weekly so this is a huge waste of time. I just want my car and do not want to have to go to another desk or booth. When I went outside I went to the only Alamo booth I saw, which was the one you drive up to. The gentlemen inside the booth was mouthing something to me that I could not understand. As a car drove up he leaned closer to window and pointed to the National booth and said (I believe) "go there". I went over to the National booth and a young lady attempted to assist me. She told me she was new and was having difficulty reading my contract to know what car I was to receive so she went to another gentleman for assistance. He was in mid-conversation with someone else so this took some time. When she finally got his attention I was directed to my SUV, which I promptly jumped into and drove away. Typically I do a full inspection but this took some time and I was eager to hit the road before the Pittsburgh traffic came full force. The car was okay; however, after looking it further it had white stains on the gray interior passenger seat and back seats. I certainly wouldn't sit on it so happy that the driver side was stain-free and I didn't have passengers with me. The price was affordable so I would rent from them again...after a full inspection of the car and with time to kill. read more

I would recommend not renting from Alamo. When we arrived to pick up our vehicle we were asked what class was on our reservation, as the gentleman did not know what class UFER was. Once we received our car, we ran to the restroom and when we returned another man was waiting at the car with his hand out for the keys-Alamo had reassigned the car 5 minutes after they gave it to us. Once in the car it smelled of cigarette smoke again we were told just tell them as you leave no effort to help. The smell was unbearable however, it was the only car they could offer us in our rental class. Alamo should understand no smoking means no smoking and learn the concept of customer service. You have many options to choose from Alamo should be your last. read more

This company is severely lacking. There were about 10 customers that had rentals with Alamo. We called from LAX and told them we were 2 hours delayed. When we arrived at the airport in Pitt no one was there. Many people called the number to speak to a supervisor and they told us we could sleep in the airport and someone would be there at 6:00 AM. Their customer service is horrible! We will NEVER ever use them again. They did not even offer us a free day or anything. Do yourself a favor and don't use Alamo EVER! read more

Our flight into Rio de Janeiro landed 30 minutes early Sunday February 27, and we immediately went to the Alamo location at the airport to pick up our car we had reserved. When we arrived we were told we had no car as they had all been taken already by other people. The girl apparently didn't car that I had a reservation. Because it was carnival in Rio, there were no other cars to be found anywhere and we had to call relatives to come get us while we waited with our bags in the airport for 3 hours for them to arrive, all after an 11 hour overnight flight. Because we didn't have a car we were unable to travel to Buzios as we had planned and were forced to have to pay for a hotel for two nights that we didn't use because we were outside the window of cancellation for a refund at the hotel. We were forced to use public transportation and depend on riding with relatives to do any of our scheduled plans which were drastically changed because of a lack of a car. We reserved a 5 passenger vehicle with automatic transmission because we were planning on transporting my mother in law and sister in law with us on our itinerary, again all of which was thrown into turmoil. This trip was the first time my spouse had been back to Rio to see family in 15 years and my first trip ever. Stressful and disappointing does not even begin to describe Alamo's business operation there affected our trip. I will doubtfully ever use Alamo again after this unless it is a last resort and I do mean last resort. I will post this review on every website I can think of and tell anyone that will listen to me to avoid this company at all costs. This feedback does not begin to reflect my outrage that I felt every day that we had to scramble to make changes to our plans for the 9 days we were there. read more

Found a great price on line, reserved a car. Tried to call them multiple times... no answer. When I arrived at airport and standing 30 feet away, called again just to see if anyone would answer. Three agents at desk , no one bothered. :) When I went to counter to pick up car, found that I had somehow got the wrong pick up date. I asked if I could go ahead and pick up today( had the next day as pick up). Guy at counter said sure, no problem. But rate today was $63 and rate I had booked at was $27. Wow!!!! As I stood at the counter, we talked about my need for a rental... I had ordered a new car, but it was late getting in so needed a rental. He asked what I was getting and I after I told him, he said that car was too big for me. Did I know that it had 3 row seating??? Shucks, if I had known what an expert he was on the type of car I needed, I would have called to ask his opinion. But wait, they don't answer their phones at Alamo. Went on out to pick up car, lots of choices. Told me I could pick whatever car I wanted, very nice. After I got in car, no one to check it out with you... like auto settings for lights, how to open fuel door, etc...whatever. After leaving and on interstate noticed side view mirrors had something on them that made it impossible to use. They were opaque. Not easy to manage rush hour traffic without those mirrors. After getting home I cleaned mirrors with Windex, Goo Be Gone, and then finally pure ammonia . Don't know what was on it, but finally got it clean. Liked the car, liked the online rate I got, and the nice selection of cars available. Hated the guy at the counter, hate the outrageous rate they charged at the counter, hated the unsolicited opinion by the guy at the counter telling me I am buying the wrong car after a 30 sec conversation, and hate that they stand by and let the phone ring without bothering to pick it up. Just wanted to let everyone know that I would highly recommend NOT using Budget Car Rental. I am disgusted by the quality of the cars, the waiting, etc. But the worst part was, there was something wrong with my car, and I ended up driving it for 15 minutes. It had to be towed and they still charged me $98 and refused to give me any adjustment. They disgust me. read more

But I see from reading a previous review I was not the only customer who had to request an adjustment. So I can't give 5 stars. You shouldn't have to ask for your bill to reflect the reserved price. Alamo is one of the few rental services even open past 11 PM, which is important when flying into Pittsburgh from the west coast. Overall the prices and service were very good but the airport check-in service was painful. There were two clerks occupied chatting away with customers about their travel plans, favorite restaurants, children, grandchildren, favorite teams. Those of us in line were forced to wait at least 10-15 extra minutes just to sign our forms. Worse, nobody mentioned the construction and detours between the airport and downtown Pittsburgh which were poorly marked and extremely confusing. read more

Car was clean and full of gas when I got it lady neglected to tell me that I needed a half a tank of gas when I turned it in even though I paid the $20 gas fee. When I return the vehicle to the airport I was informed that I didn't have enough gas but it's in that waive the fee which was nice anyway. I have always had a pleasurable experience with this car rental company in Pittsburgh. John is always there to assist in helping locate the type of vehicle you are seeking & always handing out water. The counter help us friendly and will offer clear instructions or directions. They are never pushy by trying to up sell you on your vehicle selection - not to say that they don't ask. I would have rated a 5-star but I have had challenges on vehicles being sold out during peak times & had to use a competitor with not nearly the customer service that Alamo provides so I always come back to Alamo. I know it would be difficult but it would be nice to "hold" some vehicles for Insider members during peak times. I really enjoy the "select the car if your choice in your category". Pittsburg Airport - flight delays and cancelations had us flying into Pittsburg at 2 am. No one else seemed to be in the airport. Resigned that we would be sleeping on chairs until things opened at 6. As we rounded the corner, near baggage claim and rental cars, there was one lone sole behind a desk still working - we call him the "Alamo Angel" (aka, brian!) Second time I've rented from Alamo in the last two months. Had great experience with desk staff both times. Very polite and helped us out of a bind on a time frame in Florida. In Pittsburgh was upgraded to an SUV for a sweet deal. Only issue I had was having the KIOSK check in down in Pittsburgh. Had to wait in line for quite a while at the counter. On a recent business trip November 5, I needed to switch vehicles based on what was offered in Lot 7 at 7:25 AM at Pittsburgh Airport. In doing so, I made the mistake of leaving my wallet in the drivers side door compartment. After leaving the airport I was heading to Lewisburg, WV for a meeting which concluded at 2:30 PM. When stopping for coffee before the next leg of my journey to Baltimore, MD I then found I had left my wallet. After spending 2.5 hours in a circular voice mail and only speaking with "Call Center" individuals who provide phone numbers but ALL go to the same place, with same non-response outcome and never speaking with a human being who actually cared, I began driving. It is November 8 and to this date I have NEVER received a call back from the "answering machine" messages assumed to be at the Pittsburgh counter where I pleaded into the phone for someone to check the first vehicle I was in or find who rented it to solve my issue and HELP me. NO ONE helped. This is a service company where in many cases people have issues that prompted voice commands on the phone don't always fit the emergency bill you may have while traveling. In no instance did I feel anyone could careless, in no instance can you opt out to speak with customer service person and if you did get someone, again they are at a call center not where you rented. I WILL NEVER EVER rent with is company again. If you do make sure you never need to call anyone about anything during your rental period for an emergency or any kind of help. It may just be lack of caring at the PITT Airport and not company wide but they lost all my business no matter where based upon this shameful, disgusting lack of response and caring to a customer. I circled for 5 minutes I was parked in front of (right next to) your booth waiting for one of the 5 people to step out. After 5 minutes, I saw an open spot, pulled in and walked to the booth Questions at the booth Who are you renting from, national or Alamo? Is the tank full? How many miles did you drive? I only had a sweatshirt on and after 5 minutes of pecking at the computer, finally got to go inside. If it was too cold for me to wait outside while your staff had heaters in the booth, did they do this for all renters? read more
