I rented a vehicle through Priceline paid in full for auto rental car upfront in full with debit card. However when I arrived at the location they did not have a regular size SUV was putting me in a Ford Explorer 7 seater vehicle. That's fine I didn't have extra time to argue over midsize I ordered. But, then I was refused my rental as I do not own a major credit card in my name and they refuse to take debit card or cash even if I agreed to double the deposit. I had to cancel thru Priceline who wanted to say my reservation was non refundable! After a few hours of phone calls while sitting in the airport I was refused a refund at first by Priceline. Once I negotiated a refund. I approached Enterprise. Much easier to work with and very upset she had nothing till tomorrow. Enjoyed the driving of the Nissan Versa immensely! I would advise anyone who is considering renting from this company to rent from someone else. I've not had to rent a car but I would walk before I would rent from them. My son rented a cr from them for work and when he went to return it they had towed his car after they were the ones that told him to park his car there and the woman that worked there is the one who had it towed what should have cost 300.00 dollars cost him over 1400.00 dollars. Arrived in SBY at 10pm and received a voicemail from Avis stating my reservation had been canceled. The agent offered no assistance or alternatives. She stated they were out of cars for "same day rentals". It was not a same day rental. So if I had reserved for two days and returned early they would have had a car for me? Definitely not the truth about being "out of cars" because two others in line received their cars. I believe they canceled my reservation because it was a corporate rental at a contracted rate. I'm afraid they have lost a customer. Upon arrival my compact car was unavailable (that's fine), so I was given a giant family van. (that's OK). However, when I checked my credit card charge that week, I was charged nearly $300 for 'excessive pet hair'. This was of course totally unrelated to me since there were NO animals in the van! Just me!. The cleaning fee was absurd. I noticed the front seat of the van was a bit dirty, but I never checked the huge rear area. Vehicle was extremely neglected. Seats were stained and had round spots all over them from being spot clean, there was soda or something splashed on the ceiling. Overdue for service was notifying on the dash. The key fob battery was low and notifying on the dash. And it smelled like cigar smoke really strongly. I'm disappointed this was rented to me. Will not be returning to Avis for future rentals. read more

Rental process was ok, Reserved through Costco, got a decent deal. Picking car up was smooth. Returned the car a day early, only not a full 100%, 24 hour day early, missed it by an hour and 15 minutes, and still got charged the whole day. Booo. Then 1 month and 2 weeks later get a new charge for a $19...a $16.75 "CONVENIENCE FEE" for a $2.25 toll in Va that CANNOT be paid w cash (something called pay by plate/EZ pass only in Hampton Roads). Customer service rep "Jay" was useless and sounded stoned... I had to look all this crap up myself as the tolls dept is closed. AVIS is a nickel and dimer for sure... read more

Worst rent a car experience EVER! I had reserved a 15 passenger van for my Moms 90th Birthday. It was to be a whole family experience 3 generations in the same vehicle sharing her stories of growing up. I called the day before and made sure van was there and was assured it would be ready. Arrived and no van. Was told it was relocated with NO replacement. Really?I was told I could have 2 mini vans at same price of 189$ for 1 day or drive to BWI and get one up there Really? DO NOT RENT FROM THEM!!!!!!!!! Very disappointed in this company. Or should I say, the Salisbury Terminal office. I called and had questions about a rental. The woman that answered was very rude and when I kindly asked her name she hung the phone up on me!!!!! Hung it up right in my ear!!! Then when I called back multiple times there was no answer. Later I called back and a woman said she had just got there and didn't know who I spoke to and said the owners name was Alice and she had just left. Very unprofessional. This place doesn't deserve 1 star the juvenile girl who is always at counter by herself liying and saying she is a supervisor tock 300$ off my card and never released it back. I was supposed to rent car for 3 days i had vehicle about 4 to 5 hours before she called my cell and asked if i could come back for her to swipe my card . I asked her are you going to take more money off my card??!! She said no!!! She said she just needed to swipe my card again. I shouldn't of come back but i did and she was on the phone and swiped my card twice and gave it back to me, no more money was taken off. She then asked for keys to get number off car key. When she hung up phone i asked for keys back and she said i would have to jump over counter and take them from her. I then asked are you serious ?!!!!! a car i just paid for and have paperwork for. I went back in forth with her and got so stressed because of her crazy actions that i just told her i just wanted to get my belongings out of the car. She refused. I asked for hours for her to unlock car so i could get my belongings out. She finally unlocked car and it was close to closing time before I left. Its been a week i still dont have my 300$ back on my card and nothing has been done by corporate. Ive made several reports, claims and it contuied to be taken lightly. I needed a quick 1-way rental car to BWI and there was a young lady there who'd just started a few days ago. She was very professional and helpful and made the experience as great as it could be. I'm thankful I went with Avis rather than the other available options that seemed to be attempting to take advantage of a last-minute emergency I had. read more

What a mistake! I haven't used Avis before and what a disappointment. They misrepresented the vehicle and then had to change my reservation to accommodate my family and our luggage. The car was about as dirty as a used minivan could be, and had the overpowering smell of cheap car perfume used to douse out the underlying stench. Try any other company for a better result. read more
