worst car rental experience ever. I reserved a full size car in this location, but later was told that no cars are available on the day I wanted. They canceled my reservation and made another reservation for me at the airport. I did not received any confirmation for the second reservation. Furthermore, I also have to pay $15+ more to pick up a car at the airport. When I ask them to price match my previous reservation, the owner of this branch would not help me on that. Her altitude is the worst I can met. I decided to move on, but it will be my last time to rent a AVIS car. Our trip/vacation should be happy, so please think about it twice before you rent a car from this location. read more

I reserved a Budget car online. When I arrived at the appointed time at this Avis/ Budget facility (Avis owns the Budget brand), I was told that no compact cars under my reservation were available in the current inventory and that I could only rent a more expensive vehicle in another size/class category. The rental agent, Stephanie, explained to me that she didn't have my phone number and could not call me to alert me of the fact that my reservation choice was not available. However, no notices, indicating any problem, were sent to me through the reservation system which previously forwarded a reservation confirmation. With vehicle unavailability in connection with a reservation, it's the usual practice to offer an upgrade at the reservation rate. I've experienced the same at Avis/ Budget rental facilities, including those in San Diego. I raised this fact with Stephanie but she refused to abide by this custom. I'll never rent from this facility again. There are too many choices from other rental car companies, in the area, to accept this treatment. Had I more time and had the ride that dropped me off at the location not already left, I would have taken my business elsewhere. If you have to rent a vehicle, keep on rolling past this Avis/ Budget location. There may be other traps in store! read more

Absolutely dishonest!!!! I returned a car I rented at the lax location on October 23rd,2019. After a few minutes driving on the highway towards San Diego, the smell becomes a mix of armor and smoke. The smell became stronger the more I was driving. I hate smoke smell and smoke disgusts me but I was already tired from my long flight from Europe so I decided to deal with the smell driving with the windows open. The return location was Rancho Bernardo,CA. I called this location before returning the car asking if there was a way to make an official complaint about the smoke smell and inform about my disgusting experience with the rental. The first time hunk I was told is that since I didn't report it when I drove off for them I was the one who smoked in the car and they will charge me if they smell it too. I told them that I was not happy about that and that it was unfair since not only I'm not a smoker,never smoke in my life and hate smoke smell. I was the one who has to drive more than 2 hours with the inconvenience. I took the car back and the girl working there inspected and actually said that she agreed about the mixed armor/smoke smell. I asked if she all was ok and she said yes and understood. On February 07th, 2020, more than 3 months after the drop off, I received an email from budjet informing me I have a balance of $121.67 as a cleaning charge. This is crazy!!! I was told after the drop off inspection that all was good and budjet can not try to get this money from me after 3 months. They should charge the person who rented that car before me if they want to make right. I should be compensated for the the disgusting experience I had. Never rent with Budjet/Avis!!!! read more

i made reservation at this place too. i was given a high mileage mini suv and with cigarette smell. i was offered with another mini suv with high mileage too. i decided to cancel my reservation. i will not rent a rental car from avis again. read more

Terrible customer service . I can't believe they are customer service people. Rude , terribly dressed the place is dirty and they have this attitude that just cause you are not a "corporate rental" they don't need your business. I used hotwire to reserve a car because it was a decent deal around $30 for a car, I think it was the smallest they offer. I didnt care, I just needed a car for the day. I drove all the way to the location just to have the lady working there tell me they do not have a car for me. She showed me how she tried to call me, but the number the third party company gave Avis was not a number at all. Now know I set an appt through hotwire just 2 weeks ago at the same location and everything went smooth that time. This time for some reason Avis had no cars available and the lady said she was trying to call me all morning. She was somewhat nice , but c'mon lady I was a customer before. Im sure if you looked up my name in your system, Im guessing (only guessing since I do not work there or know Avis's processes) you could have found my information and called me IF that is what you were really trying to do. No initiative or extra effort on that employees part so thumbs down. I went 9/14/16 @ 9am whoever you are lady that was working there. My advice if booking through a third party company call and confirm. I should have known better. Now I dont know if Avis or hotwire who screwed up, but wasted my time and time is money!!! Avis does not provide the right info to hotwire or hotwire does not have the correct info in their system. Guess thats what I get for trying to save a few bucks. read more

I have been using this Avis since I moved to RB 1n 1998. I think it changed ownership sometime within the last year and since then I have never received the car I requested. Today I returned a Chevy Cruise which had been given to me and topped off the tank at the local ARCO. Now take in mind, I regularly rent cars & have been driving for over 50 years and have never had a car not register full after topping off the tank, but today it did and they wanted me to pay a fee for that! I left & returned after forcing a whole $2.00 into the tank. I will never returned to this Agency & would suggest if you choose to do so to be very careful & certainly check the gas gauge before returning a car. read more

Don't ever rent a car at this location. Stephanie assisted me and was very rude, very bad customer experience. I rented a car for couple of hours and she charged me for 1 full day. Once inside, getting ready to pay, she had the audacity to tell me to go to the gas station and put more gas when it was already full! Clearly the line was on "F" for full! Unlike other reviewers, I've had nothing but good experiences here. I rent from this location 4-5 times a year and they always treat me well and are accommodating. Although I do book ahead of time, don't come in with a negative attitude, and realize that the rental car business isn't an exact science. They are 20X better than the Enterprise branch around the corner. read more

It's horrible. The owner is so rude. We decided not to rent a car at this place and never come back even it's so close to my house.

The rental process was easy... But returning was a nightmare. I rented an intermediate sub because I was going camping. Upon picking up the suv everything went smoothly I got the keys, signed the paper work and left. When I went to check in the car I realized I forgot gas. I stood in the waiting room while the lady at the front desk finished up on the phone and then instead of helping me took another call. After the person on the phone didn't want to service due to price she made a comment to me saying "like they'll find anything open today." I ignored it and proceeded to try to check in the suv. I let her know I forgot to get gas and I would just pay the 2.88 a gal price they have posted on the wall. She informed me that was only if I pre paid the gas and that she was going to charge me $10 a gal. I took the suv and filled it with gas at the chevron then came back. She took the keys and inspected the suv and told me that she should be charging me a cleaning fee because there was dog hair. She said she would take care of it this time. I informed her i was not advised there was a cleaning fee for dog hair. She told me that I'm supposed to check in the vehicle as clean as when it left. I told her I had never had a problem like this at enterprise and asked if I needed go clean the car. She said it was fine but normally they would charge me. This was the first time renting from this company and I will never rent a car from Avis again. read more

Costco travel puts me in contact with this rental company and the rates are decent. I have used them more than four times. The first time I heard the owner complain about all of the negative Yelp reviews. I tend to make my own decisions. One time I returned from Vegas with some cash and wanted to pay with cash. I was rudely told that they don't accept cash. I then made the decision to go elsewhere from now on. This most recent trip, I went through Costco and they put me to Budget. Went there to pick it up and BAM, it's the same company. Got back from the trip and was 2 hours late for the return. I was rudely charged another day AND INSURANCE FOR THE NON EXISTING DAY. I clearly showed that I was not ok with this and was met with a I don't give a s--t attitude. I get it, I broke the rules and need to be charged but at least try to make me happy by not charging me insurance for the day. As a business owner, I found it wise to make reasonable people happy even if you have to eat some money. I will never give these rude people another cent. How much did that cost? read more

This is the first formal complaint I have ever written on someone, but I felt compelled to inform people about manager of this location. I had a horrible experience with a Cindy Hollister, in the Rancho Bernard location, her complete lack of professionalism both in person and over the phone with me is where I draw the line. It is really unfortunate that this woman is giving your company a BAD name, I see others have had the similar issues with this woman. Please Join me fellow yelpers in the fight to NOT SUPPORT costumer service based companies, that treat their customers like crap! I have been using this Avis location for the past 5 years. I rent vehicles about 3-4 times a year for a period of 2-3 months at a time. The staff is great and helpful! I have had no issues with service. I recommend this location above any other location in Poway or Rancho Bernardo. read more

Watch out for this office! I was billed for a repair charge almost 8 months after renting and returning a car. The office is very disorganized. and more busy dealing with their personal problems rather than their customers. I was given the wrong keys at first. Finally got the right keys only to get down the road and notice the check engine light was on. I had to bring the fully packed car back, unload, reload, and get a new car, which I never had the chance to sign for or inspect before leaving on our trip. Now, 8 months later I've been mailed a bill for damages. They said the car had to be towed when we drove right up to their door when we returned it! One Avis person said it was a tire, another Avis person (different phone call) said it was something else. They said the charge would be billed to my credit card after one week from the date of the letter. I was billed 2 days after I received the letter even though I had already reported the error to the main office! I'll be writing the corporate offices and will even consider small claims court, if needed. I just saw a very similar situation from Christina S. Almost identical! Rented a car at this location through a third party. Podunk rental office with woman who prioritized her Starbucks run before customer service. Didn't answer phone 10 minutes before closing (made a reservation) and when I arrived that evening they were closed before 6pm. However, there was an "open" sign and no hours were posted. I arrive the next morning at 7am and the woman told me she gave away my reservation because I didn't pick up the car "on time" the night before and it cancelled due to a large corporate reservation that took priority. She says they open at 730am however no cars can leave the lot before 8am due to the fact that the zippy doo da car wash opens at such and such time. She proceeds to try to educate me on what a "reservation" means. Coming from NYC, think I am clear on the definition of a reservation. I let her know that I don't have 5 hours to wait for a rental vehicle, so she tells me to leave and go to enterprise. I confirmed that she knew how to cancel a reservation since she couldn't keep a reservation. The real incompetence is that she then charged me $80.00 for "car insurance" through the 3rd party service when I didn't even receive any rental car! Crooked or stupid...anyone's guess! read more
