We decided to rent a car for a quick trip up to LA. I always research and see where is the best deal and car that best fits our needs (something spacious for 6, comfy and not too bad on gas). I decided to go through Costco Travel which offers Avis and Budget as their providers. What an amazing experience! We were able to get a 7 seater, Buick Enclave for a great deal and Costco has a company that offers a pretty good deal on additional insurance (which was under $6/day). This location was a short drive from home and open 7 days/week so very convenient. Tony help us both on arrival and when we dropped off the car the next day. He is so amazing, very friendly and helpful and just overall great. We had an awesome experience and honestly will be going here from now on when we are in need of a rental car. read more

My need for a rental car is pretty rare, but as long as Tony is at Avis, I'll continue coming here. My wife, mom and I were heading on a trip and the town we were going to got a bunch of unexpected snow. Although my truck is 4-wheel-drive, it's not the most comfortable vehicle to ride in the back seat in for long trips and my mom has a difficult time getting into it anyways. After being let down by another rental car place in Poway, I remembered Avis and gave them a call. I explained to Tony what size SUV I was looking for and that it had to be 4-wheel-drive. Tony informed me that he didn't have any on hand, but was confident he could get one same day despite my last minute request after being let down by the other place. I arrived at Avis after getting off work and Tony knew who I was as soon as I said my name. He took a genuine interest from start to finish, was very thorough in explaining everything and left me feeling very confident in my decision. I feel I paid a fair price considering I was getting a brand new 4x4 SUV for 8 days and would have no concerns about renting from here in the future. Be ware carefull with this place, black guy there is a fraud. They been blamimg people for the same damage to the car. First I rented corolla there and after returning it he said, there is a dent and that I would have to pay for damages. So glad that I have taken a video of the car before I drove off and the damage was already there. They didnt even keep all their cars in assigned lot. Car that I got was in the middle of public parking lot of shopping centre and anyone could of hit it and then they just blame customer. That same fraud guy still charged me for 2 gallons of gas, I wonder how they measure it because car was full and he said it calculated electronically. Also charged me for a whole extra day, because I brought car an hour or 2 late. Well thats my fault. Make sure you take video of the car before you drive off , or this fraud will do what frauds do. read more

Used to rent from Poway Hertz, because of work discount and they seem to be the number one provider. Our work discount now includes Avis, so I have been renting there. Have rented at Avis now 3-4 times. Tony makes it easy, quicker and easier than Hertz. The last rental just recently Tony really was amazing the vehicle I rented didn't have enough cargo space, he quickly swapped it out even though all rental vehicles were booked up, even configured the new vehicle to maximize the cargo space. Can't say enough good things about Tony, really went above and beyond for me! read more

They say there was a nail in the tire, well How do you know it was after I returned? Why din't you reach out immediately after I return the car and mention about the issue? There are people that you meet where you are reminded that there are still good people in this world. Then there is Tony, who exceeds that even further. This is the AVIS store I would be willing to drive out of my way to just to rent a car. My relatives were in town from China (since December/January) and due to the coronavirus, there's a lot of misunderstandings. When they pulled out their China passports, I noticed that some people stepped back (seriously); not Tony. He was very nice and professional about it, grabbed the passport without hesitation and not as if it had coodies, just business as usual. He asked how their trip was in the US so far and other small talk. During the small talk, he realized that there was going to be 5 people in the car. Although the car we reserved could fit 5 people, Tony was super considerate and very very thoughtful. He said well, the car you picked can fit 5 but it would be more comfortable in one size up especially if you have luggage. It's so nice and refreshing to see someone so understanding of the situation and acting without hesitation. He has a genuine compassionate personality. Even approaching him he had something about him that says that we can trust him and we picked the right place to rent a car. Tony is absolutely considerate, thoughtful, kind, patient, and extremely respectful regardless of background or issues going on in the world; he provides customer service that every business needs to use as a role model. It is without a doubt in my mind that I will take my business here and recommend to all my friends and family to always come to this AVIS and ask specifically for Tony. I'm not really sure how long a review I'm supposed to post about a car rental agency. I'll say this: I've rented from this Avis location a few times. Tony, the owner, is usually there and is always friendly and helpful. The cars I get are (1) in great condition and (2) what I actually reserved. (I rent from Avis a lot, and I don't always get what I reserved!) Also, the prices for car rentals are as good, if not better, than the other locations in the area. Well they are not very helpful. They tried to give my mom a dirty dirty car with tons of scratches. When I asked if it could be cleaned he wasn't very kind about it. AVIS Poway is by far the best car rental experience I have ever had...not just once, but each and every-time and I've been renting here now for many years. Before finding AVIS, I rented from several competitors and will openly say that Hertz and Budget SUCK!!!!!! What makes AVIS so great? First and foremost, Tony is awesome!!!!!!!!! He greets me by name and always, always, has a smile on his face. His customer service skills are by far 100 and 10%. If you want to get in and out quickly and easily, with a fair priced vehicle, which are always in stock, don't waste your time anyplace else.....go see Tony at AVIS Poway. Dear Corporate....this office could use a makeover, I'm not deducting a star for this because I never have to wait long enough to spend more than 5 minutes, but it would be nice to at least spruce the place up, seriously, Tony has to work there and he deserves better. I am literally only still an Avis customer because of this location and Tony. I think Avis in general has gone downhill in customer service but Tony really cares and goes out of his way to provide service that makes up for the other locations. As long as Tony is there, so am I. My only wish is that they allowed nighttime key dropoff because they are not open weekend afternoons and that's usually when I return my cars. read more

In fact it was waaaay better that the other hire car I had from Hertz as the deluxe card and as a gold member. I'd rent here again - service was fast and efficient - and a great car. The online reservation site was very user friendly. When I arrived at the store front, the whole process was flawless, and I was in and out within 10mins. *Benefit- Avis is located in a shopping plaza with plenty of parking. Rented a full size car for a week drove out to the Grand Cyn, Sedona and Las Vegas. Received a free upgrade and free satellite radio. The car was great, pretty new- still had that new car smell and only 5k miles on it. The service was nice, friendly and efficient. Cheaper than renting from the airport. Horrible experience. I am not one for bad reviews, but I have had nothing BUT TROUBLE. First off, we rented online and paid prior to picking up the vehicle. When we got there they told us that the card holder and driver had to be the same person even though it was my credit card and my boyfriend driving. (We are 21). Tony helped us but didn't mention there would be a fee for switching me to being the driver (even though we had to because who else was going to drive the car if my boyfriend couldn't??) Then I tried to extend my rental by one day, and first when I called the Poway location, whoever was working told me they were going to put me on hold and instead hung up and wouldn't answer when I called back. I called the company and they told me it was going to be $300 for one extra day. (We didn't extend). When bringing the car back I was so happy to never have to deal with budget again... I was wrong. I received an email of my invoice which showed $200 extra dollars charged. Curious to why, I called and no one could tell me why I was paying $200 extra dollars. They told me, oh it's for the radio xm (we didn't click radio xm when we made the reservation) and extra liability (which we also didn't ask for). We paid for coverage on the car, but even Tony explain that we would not have coverage on any property or medical coverage but now we are also being charged for that. Not to mention that we found trash and even other peoples belongings in the car. The sole purpose of going to budget was because of the low price but in the end it was the same price if I would of went to enterprise. I will not ever rent a car again from such a poorly managed establishment. Please skip the headache and rent elsewhere. If I could zero I would. read more

We rented a car from this location last year and again this year for a long trip and the experience was great both times! Tony is great and very good with customer service. He always gets us in a car quickly and gets us the car we need. The prices are great and the cars are always clean. We typically go to a different Avis location and had grown to like the staff there. When they didn't have the inventory for a last minute holiday weekend request, we were routed to this location. Tony is truly a customer focused representative--- greeted us with such appreciation and he was soo attentive. When the car we were issued had a weird glitch, he swapped it out with the speed of an Indy 500 pit crew. Thanks, Tony! This is one of the worst companies I have ever had to deal with. Don't be fooled by their low prices. Case# 15673248 I purchased a van to rent for the day for a wedding, I returned the van late by 2 hours. Totally my fault. However they told me the extra charges after I returned the van, Which is more than a regular 24 hour day rental. So I said I'd keep it for another day. They said No. Sorry you already gave us the keys that were 1 foot away. Then after dealing with a very rude manager they had me sign off that the van was returned, only to send me an email later on saying that their was a 1" scratch on the front Bumper. Totally a BS call, But now trying to make me pay for a new paint job. This is all because I tried to argue with the manager. DON"T BUY FROM THEM. read more

Beware!!! I rented a car through Budget Rental and I guess that Avis bought Budget so this is where I picked up the car. The store says nothing about Budget so I drove right past it the first time. The prices are great...I reserved through Hotwire.com...much better prices than going through Budget. The car was fine, got in and out of there quickly...no long wait for the car. BUT...the day before I was returning the car I called to make sure that when I dropped off the car, someone could give me a ride home. They assured me that they would be able to. When I showed up the next morning, I was told (by the mgr, Tony) that they didn't offer the service...period. I asked how I was supposed to get home? He really didn't seem to care and didn't seem willing to take responsibility for his employee who gave me incorrect information. It took a bit of "conversation" to get him to offer a cab ride, but the cab was going to take too long to get there. I only live about 2 miles away...I told him I would walk......but, I would not pay for the car rental (2 days). He agreed to that and I had to walk home. NOT my fault that the employee provided incorrect information....Tony did not handle this well. read more

This place is a dump! Seriously the store front is horrible. But worse than that was my experience today. I travel back and forth between SD and northern AZ. The big storm had me concerned so I thought I'd upgrade to a SUV. My work travel agent confirmed Poway had one and made the reservation. I left work in the middle of the afternoon even though I had several critical tasks due that day. But this was important. I was potentially driving into a snow storm. So not only do I get informed they have no SUVs when I arrive but their answer was a shoulder shrug and gee that's just they way the system works. WTF?! Talking with the manager got me no where. He offered me a van. I asked if he'd drive a van into a snow storm. Of course not was his reply. Bottom line I wasted an hour because they mis represented them selves. My car had to go in the shop so I rented a car from Avis. I was planning a birthday party for my sister and definitely needed a car to run around in. I had to pick up food, decorations etc. I had $150 in an envelope with me when I was running around. I returned the car and a day or two later I realized I didn't have the envelope with the cash anymore. I was in an out of the car so many times I tried to backtrack where I could have misplaced it. I thought maybe it's was in the rental car and figured the chances of it still being there would be slim to none. A few days later I thought what the heck I'll stop by and see if by any chance the envelope was turned in. I stopped in and the agent remembered me. I explained the situation. He opened a drawer that had all kinds of miscellaneous stuff in it. He pulled out an envelope and I asked him to look inside. Surprise!!! The $150 was still in it!!! He looks surprised too!!! I really didn't think that I would recover the envelope with the cash still in it. I just wanted to express my appreciation to those honest people at Avis who turned in the envelope!!! read more
