Ok, I know...says it's been 11 years...well there were a couple rentals I did here that I didn't check in. The SHAME! Anyways, on to the review. Same problem as the last review, rent from the airport, $$$$$$$, rent from here, $$. Reserved a full size car and all they had was a minivan when I arrived, worked for me. One person shop looked like when I was there. Easy return once I was done with the minivan and saved lots over getting it at the airport. Sadly with Sears closing...this Avis/Budget location may be closing too. I hope they find someplace else to rent from. read more

Made a reservation online for a pickup an hour later. Per the site, I tried to call and confirm and when I did, I was put on the phone with the same person I would later call. I know this because I recognize the voice. Anyways I call and someone says something very quickly. I thought it was just a standard greeting and started talking but then I was hit with the hold music. So I assumed it was someone saying please hold on and I'll get back to you in a few minutes or something. I wait for 15 to 20 minutes and no one returns, just the same background waiting music. I thought they were busy or something so I said I'll just go. Grabbed an uber and went there. I arrived to a sign on the door saying they'll be back at 1215 (my pickup was at 11) and to call a number posted on the flyer. I called and spoke to the same guy, again matching the voices. I said I was here for a pickup at 11 and he sounds surprised. I said I made an online reservation and was supposed to pick up at 11ish. He says I should have called because they took away most of their cars last week and he has no cars available. And then reiterated saying I should have called. I was so pissed off I didnt mention that I did call earlier but was put on hold for 20 minutes, instead just saying I paid to get an uber here and now I have to pay for one back? He just says yeah well, next time ca- I hung up before he finished. Yeah buddy, I did call but you put me on hold for a long time, I wasnt even sure i was on hold because you blabbed some incoherent words before the music started playing. How god damn annoying. I spent 30 dollars just getting an uber there and then to the next place to get a rental. No wonder they took the vehicles from here, if a dumbass like him is working here then business must be suffering. Avoid like the plague. read more

Before I moved to Boston and bought a car, I've rented tons of cars from many different companies. Unfortunately, I didn't have a choice in renting it from this place when my car was with the body shop. The service started out great - they met me at the body shop, got me into a car for less than my daily limit by my insurance company, and sent me on my way with no issues. Returning it, however, was a nightmare! The woman who was working that day was totally different than the first woman. She asked me if it was okay to charge it to my debit card. I said yes. THEN she told me how much and I asked why it was so much and she told me it was because I kept the car a day longer. Well that doesn't explain such a big discrepancy. So I asked her to call a manager and when she did, she stood right in front of me and told the manager I was "bitching" about the cost when I was clearly only looking for an explanation. After that was settled, she just walked away and went into the office. I still needed a ride back to the body shop to pick up my car, and she made a huge ordeal out of having to bring me back there. In short, it was a horrid experience and I'd NEVER rent from these people again! read more

The gentleman who answered ignored my request to search surrounding areas and hung up before I could get a word out. Then I called the Budget location not knowing they were the same building and he was even ruder the second time telling me "You just called on the other line" and then immediately hung up. I've never been to this location therefore I was not aware that they were the same building. read more

Much cheaper than Logan (half price or less). Service was good. HOWEVER, the brake light went out the second day. I bought a new bulb (two pack) and replaced it. When I returned car I pointed it out to them, gave them the receipt and the extra bulb and asked for a $4 credit, as a courtesy since it was a little pain. Two weeks after return they charge my credit card $27 more for something and have never returned my phone calls asking for an explanation. Three weeks after return they charge my credit card for $3 for EZ pass tolls. I paid all my tolls in cash and was never told that I had an EZ pass transponder. So, excellent prices - terrible customer service. read more

This review is for the Avis/Budget Car Rental location at 1325 Broadway in Saugus. The man at the rental desk seemed courteous and professional, and the car was clean, although perhaps a little more scuffed than most cars we have rented. There was the standard upselling and offers of insurance, but we declined since we were already covered. Then he issued dire warnings about what could happen. If there was even a tiny chip in the windshield, for example, we would be responsible for completely replacing it. The car was equipped with a transponder, whether we wanted it or not, and he warned that if we got too close to certain lanes at the toll booth, it would be activated and we would have to pay a significant fee. We started to feel uneasy. We were in the mountains of New Hampshire when the tire pressure alert lit up. We found an Auto Zone and bought a tire gauge, only to find that all 4 tires were inflated at different levels, with one as low as 20 pounds. We inflated the tires but the light stayed on. There were no auto repair shops open because it was a Sunday, so we were forced to curtail our plans for the day and stay close to the hotel rather than have a blow out on a remote mountain road. Several hours later the tire pressure light went off and never came back on but it affected a whole day of our vacation. We called Budget during their posted Sunday business hours. In addition to reporting the tire problem, we wanted to inquire about extending our rental because the time of an upcoming tour had changed. We called three times. Twice there was no answer, and the third time, the person who answered said he would call back in ten minutes. We never heard from him again. When we turned the car in, we asked about a cab to Boston. The Budget man gave us a business card for a company to call, and we were quoted an estimate of $30. This experience turned out to be a nightmare. The gentleman driving the cab did not know how to enter an address into his GPS, he did not know major landmarks in Boston such as Boylston St. or Boston Common, and he surely did not know how to find our hotel. We drove around three times as long as we should have, and finally used a big chunk of our data plan trying to help him find it. I felt sympathy for him until he charged us $53 because of the extended driving time and offered no apology. It was very stressful. Perhaps it was a scam. In summary, I have zero confidence in the reliability of this car rental location. read more
