Up to the point of arriving to Boston, no one had helped myself, my wife, and my two very young children with our bags. We're had just finished our last flight from our previous home in Honolulu with around 6 or 7 big bags full of some of the essentials it takes to move two adults, a 4 year old, and a two year old roughly six thousand miles. We're we're tired, stressed, annoyed, ready for everything to end. Then Ricardo stepped in, got our car, loaded or bags while my wife and I took care of the car seats, and entertained my kids for an extra minute when one odd the car seats was being difficult. Alamo was budget friendly and just aheads up you do have to take the airport shuttle to get to the car rental building. Once you get to the building it shows you where your car rental company is located. Very easy to find, you just have to pay attention you don't miss your stop to get off when the bus driver announces the next stop. The only drawback is depending on when you arrive, there might be a long line and short staff. There was only one lady there attending to each customer so it took abit longer. They were trying to get people in line to use the car rental kiosks available but people were having trouble using them and it seemed it bit difficult and they would just get back in line. Another staff member finally came to help the other lady who was by herself and helped us out. He was very friendly and kind. It was pretty quick. We just had to go upstairs to get our car. We got a silver Nissan Pathfinder. I believe all cars come with a Toll road box. The person who takes you to your car will tell you how it works. It actually comes in handy in the city and highways here. We thought we weren't going to use it but we needed to especially with the traffic during rush hour. It helped out alot. You just flip it down to use it and flip it up not to use it but they'll go over that with you when picking up your car. We enjoyed having the freedom of having a car to go wherever we wanted to. The car seats comfyness was a 5, they were uncomfortable after long road trips on our backs and bums. The niceness was an 8, the gadgets on the car were a bit complex to figure out but we got the hang of it. We did like that the back seat folded down to put my husbands wheelchair and our belongings, a plus on that! We would use them again. All car rentals out of Logan are extremely pricey, no matter who you use, we needed a 14 day rental which ran close to $900 (compact car) with NO additional CDW from Alamo (used our credit card insurance). To add insult to injury they wanted $12 per day to add my husband as an additional driver, an additional $168 (which we did not pay so I drove the entire time). We would have used a competitor that does not charge for spouse as driver but Alamo was our only option, others had no cars. The first car they gave to us was a very basic compact with stained seats, If I am paying nearly a grand I want a decent car. I refused that and they gave us a much nicer car; advice..if you don't ask you don't get. We hit a few tolls along the way, a charge of about $12 came through about a month later (not a big deal), we did not rent the transponder which is another ~$4 per day plus tolls. Life was easier in the old days when you just gave the toll attendant cash and you were on your way. In future I would only rent from companies that do not charge for spouse as additional driver, suggest that Alamo do the same if they want a repeat customer. I wish I can give this a 0. I was a soon-to-be first time customer. Here's what happened on a rainy Friday, May 5th, 2017 around 5:15 pm. I did everything I needed to do online to reserve a car. Identified myself, address, license number, and whatever else. Finally, the last option on the site asked if I wanted to PAY NOW or PAY LATER. I chose to pay later so I can get my rental first. I get there, I speak to 2 ladies at the front desk. I gave them my name, and they ask for a Credit card. I don't have one. I asked if there was a way to do this transaction via Debit card. Yes, my prayer was answered but good things come to an end. I would have to buy a round trip ticket by either air or ground. The lady in the back, either a shift supervisor or store manager handed a lady a store policy to give me. I read it. I confirmed it. I'm buying my ticket for the rental. I can get a discount on Amtrak so I tried to buy one on the spot from BOS to PVD and back. Right before I click BUY TICKET, she came back out and said I CANNOT BUY IT, which means I can't use my Debit, and won't be getting my rental. What a bad day! "I spoke to my district manager" she said as she proceeded to show me her phone. OK, I'M SCREWED. I'm not going to fight in public. This place of business probably isn't a bad place of service, yet I'm giving them a 1/5 because of the District Manager. He cheated the policy over the phone and basically lied to the store manager, and their two desk clerks. I'm a first time customer and he cheated me out of service. I hope this is a lesson for the ladies up front, and the store manager to learn that they cannot trust him anymore. Because of his disservice to me, they: the clerks, the manager, and the company, ALL get a bad grade from me, as well as NO recommendation. They were just doing their job, and really tried to help me, but the District Manager felt he had the right and authority to overrule the Alamo policy. The service is bad. The car is dirty and greasy. There is melted taffy in the cup holder, FUCKING MELTED TAFFY!!! But it does not end there, there are hairs stuck to the candy and the seats are full of stains. There are also hairs in the head rests. Also, children's cartoon character's stickers are stuck to the windows, if you need a decent car to travel on, go to Enterprise or even Zipcar, bith are cheaper AND better. I rented a one-way minivan for my roadtrip. With my work discount, Alamo was the cheapest at just over 1k for a week plus one day rental - unlimited mileage, 24hr roadside assistance. There are only 2 locations in Boston - Logan airport and the Atlantic Avenue location. The Atlantic Ave location is pretty convenient. You can take the blue line to the New England Aquarium or the orange/green line to haymarket or fanueil Hall and walk over. The gentlemen at the counter was very friendly and helpful. read more

In a nutshell, I was overcharged about 30% more than what the original booking stated and still haven't gotten my money back 2 months later. I've rented twice from this office before. The most recent time was 2 months ago. When I returned the rental on time, no damage, no toll charges, minimal miles (about 100 miles over the course of 3 days), and a full tank of gas, they were having a computer system issue and couldn't furnish a receipt during the 15-20 minutes I waited. After, the rep told me that they could email me the receipt and, being in a rush, accepted. I was never emailed the receipt and noticed an overcharge of 30% on my credit card bill a few days later. I've called them and the main line about a half-dozen times. Each time I've had to spend 45 minutes to an hour on the phone and have spoken to countless reps and supervisors. Each time, I've been asked a few questions and then told to wait 3-5 days for a response. 2 months later, this is still unresolved and I haven't received any kind of refund. So if you're looking to book a rental car at an agreed upon price, and then be overcharged by 30% with no customer service to help solve the problem, go ahead and use this office. read more

SMALL OFFICE. The wait could be huge if it's busy. We had the misfortune of picking up the rental after a LOT of internationals came in for rentals. Beware, you could be waiting. Also, you have to go up to the 7th floor or so to get the car. You've got 15 minutes to get out before the garage charges you. Beware that, if setting up a GPS, mirrors, etc. It takes a long time to drive down that many levels in a garage. It was nuts! However, the manager was amazing, apologized several times and took care of us. She gave us a huge discount and upgraded our car and waived fees. Apparently, one of her coworkers couldn't make it in and that's why the line was so long. The customer service made it FOUR STARS :) That was WORTH THE WAIT. read more

Good location, good service, very easy returns. I rented a small "sedan" or similar from them, and they gave me a 2008 black Hyundai Tiburon GT V6 with only 13K miles on it. it was SWEET! ONly cost me $70 (unlimited mileage) and I was able to keep it all night, they have very late returns to the NE Aquarium parking garage on the 7th floor. When you return the car, no one is there, you just either leave the keys in the car or drop the keys in a lock box. read more

Easy check in and drop off/check out. They even upgraded me from an economy car to an SUV for free. It's in a busy downtown location (right by the aquarium) so that can seem a little overwhelming but that's really the only downfall. Some people don't believe me when I say that the area by the aquarium 7-11 is sketchy but walk by this area enough when you're going home at 3 am and you'll get a better idea what I mean. The shops in this row are your standard random lot, a dunks, dry cleaner, and for some reason an Alamo. However this is a good thing, their rates kind of smack you in the face with how cheap they are compared to the other places around, their location is central enough, and you don't have to deal with going to the airport. The location itself looks like it got in a fistfight with one of the homeless gentlemen outside, the walls look like they were just cleaned, the lamanated notes are peeling up and most things could use a quick refresh. But you end up getting a rental agent that quickly hooks you up with the car that you need, delivered on the 7th floor of the garage with that just vacuumed smell, you are out of there quickly. But what's really beautiful it's when you use the overnight key drop and you get an email the next morning letting you know that everything's alright,.... and they didn't try to screw you over with extra charges. read more

All of us--and there were a lot, including some represented here-- arriving Christmas eve a/o 18:00 got the same bad news. That said, I was pleasantly surprised when they a) volunteered to pick up the cost of my taxi (which was more than the entire cost of the rental), while furthermore arranging for a replacement at my remote destination; and, b) actually sent the reimbursement check a couple of weeks later, w/o prodding. I have never been so humiliated and disrespected by a company in my life. I've already visited 26 countries. I rented every possible kind of car. but I've never been so mistreated. I had with me a temporary driver's license issued by the State of Illinois, especially for visitors. just to never have problems with an international driver's license. The State of Massachusetts admits any driver's license from any state or even countries, that's right, People from any country with a valid license in their countries can drive in MA up to 6 months, including temporary licenses issued by any state. The truculent, disrespectful attendant from the Boston unit canceled my reservation when it was time to pick up the car, simply because he was not prepared to do a simple search, and find information that is public and simple to find. My family was unable to go to the hotel, but luckily at the window next door there was a more serious company. We pay more but we rent with those who care about customers. Run from this evil company, and avoid being embarrassed and humiliated as I was. WORST SERVICE EVER! read more

This is a very convenient location for car pick up and return. However we went in to pick up a reserved car on a Sunday morning and the line for check in was extremely long and slow. The location has only two check in desks. There are two kiosks, but nothing posted to say what they can do or how to use them and and not apparent until you are almost inside the door. This was by far the most negative experience I have had with a auto rental company. I booked a Jeep Wrangler for my anniversary trip to go up the coast from Boston Logan. I arrived after midnight to Boston Logan and as I've booked a car to be picked up at 1:30am at the counter, I've checked in ahead of time. Checking in online doesn't help the process even a bit. The line was long and Alamo counter was closed so we all lined up at the National which apparently is what Alamo does in the non-peak operating hours. The lady at the counter was rude, she would not help with an ez-pass rental and was short in anything I asked. She then sent us to the garage to pick up the vehicle and this is the worst part: When we got to the garage, there were at least fifteen families standing there waiting for the car. Only one employee checking paperwork and asking a few more valet guys to pull up random vehicles from a different floor of the garage. They drive into the garage at extremely high speeds, peel into the spaces and then he would give random vehicle to random people. As you can imagine, people were upset and tired of waiting. The guy looked at my paper and told me there is no Jeep available. I told him I paid for a Jeep and he said "Well it says: Jeep or similar, so here is a Nissan Altima, that's all we got". I was shocked. An Altima would have cost me $200 less. I paid a lot for the Jeep and I wanted a Jeep. I told him that I won't settle for an Altima. After about half hour of this torture at the garage and dozens of people wondering why this guy is just auctioning off cars to people, I went down to the rental counter again to downgrade to a sedan and request a refund. The guy in the garage said that they won't do that I will pay even more.... They were not helpful, there was a long line again. Then my wife comes down with bags and says they finally pulled up a Jeep and we should hurry before they give it away to someone else. I ran to get it and sure enough it was finally there. I don't remember any more all the details but the guy was really mad at me and said something...what a crazy night! I will never forget this! Such chaos, disrespect and unprofessional treatment, I can't believe it! I thought Alamo was a reputable company but I will never use them again and avoid them at any cost. read more

Made a reservation on line via hotwire.com for the off airport location (about $15 less per day on a 9 day trip) . Asked Alamo (national help desk) about how to get from airport to the off airport location, and they said I am responsible for that (which is fine I will get a taxi). But still want to make sure that a taxi can be arranged from the car rental drop off; to the airport during the return. Got same answer that I will need to arrange. That was completely unhelpful; as I do not know how to arrange taxi with who? Will the off airport drop off set me up with a taxi when I return the car? How about a direct phone number to the off airport location? How about confirming that I can get a ride to the airport from the off airport location? read more

If I could give zero stars I would. We booked a car with Boston Alamo through Virgin Holidays, for collection at 10am, as we had a long drive up to Maine. We eventually received the car at 11:40am; we had also booked a GPS but nearly didn't get that at all. When we returned home I complained to Virgin and several weeks later received a measly $50 in compensation from Alamo. A few weeks after that we received a letter informing us of an unpaid toll (OF 10 CENTS) which was incurred by driving over a bridge near Newport, where there is no option to pay by cash. For paying this on our behalf, Alamo are charging us $18.00 which I think is outrageous. Needless to say I will never be booking a car with Alamo again. read more

We decided to take the train from Logan into downtown and save the rental car fees and parking on our site seeing day, and rent the car as we departed Boston for CT. This plan really saved money, and this location was easily within walking distance from Faneuil Hall. The staff was great, car worked fine and was a hybrid which saved on gas. All in all, a great experience. I would recommend this location for anyone wanting to rent a car after they tour Boston. read more

These lower stars are due to the poor information provided by customer service and lack of signs in the return lot. I was so pleased with my rental and price (NY to downtown Boston) but thought I would drop it off last night upon arrival instead of paying $40 for parking at the hotel. Alamo' s website said closed at 6 so I called customer service to see if they had a key drop. She said Boston is open 24 hours, I asked if this was true for downtown, so she looked up my reservation and said open until 11:59. We went to the return and it was closed. It was night at the top of an empty (of people) parking structure. There weren't any signs pointing to a key return or any information on the office door about one. Back to the hotel we went and paid the parking fee. So this morning we went to return the car and as we walked to the porter (on the opposite side of the garage we were on last night) we saw the key return. Yes anyone looking for it, It Is There. I wish I had seen it last night or there had been a sign!! Or customer service had answered my question and said YES, there is a Key Return. On the up side the return was very fast, no line, in and out. read more

We were stuck in an incredibly sore spot after our car was STOLEN within the first week of us moving to Boston. Unfortunately, my job requires that I have a car. After my car insurance company told me that they would only reimburse a $30/day car rental, the ONLY weekly reservation we could find at that rate was through Alamo. I have to admit that I was really worried about what we were going to get; I mean, what can you assume about a car rental company when it's the ONLY ONE that offers rentals at a rate under $30/day. There's got to be something amiss, right? But, that was not the case... like all of the other reviewers, we were very well taken care of. We did have to wait a bit to pick up the car, but it was a very easy transaction and they didn't try to sell me anything I didn't want. They were extremely helpful and friendly, and every week I had to renew the car I did so over the phone - no problems. There was one week when they needed me to turn in the first car I had rented because it was going to auction. The manager who helped me was extremely apologetic and gave me tons of discounts (as well as my choice of car at the same rate) when I went in. I JUST got my car back - nearly two months after it was first stolen and then recovered - and Alamo was by far the easiest company I have had to work with throughout this whole ordeal. Should I need a rental again in the future, I will not hesitate to reserve with this Alamo branch again. read more

Rented a car here on a Saturday morning, with a Monday night drop off. Was charged three days at checkout, which is what I expected. Then, the day after drop off, received a $19 charge for "after hour drop off," despite the website saying nothing about this and not being told this at checkout. When we called to inquire, they were rude and refused to send us a copy of our contract. I would highly recommend avoiding this Alamo and other Alamos in the future. read more
