Unacceptable. Here is the e-mail we sent to them on 6/6/2016:
"The car was returned a few minutes late and with a half tank of petrol. For this I was charged 70 euro for the petrol plus an extra day's hire.
We left Bruges at 10.30 am, allowing plenty of time to return the car at the airport by 2pm. However, the GPS system would not show us the airport, as it required a street address, and we spent lenghty periods of time going into towns and seeking directions.
We also selected the highways option on the GPS, thinking that it would take us on freeways rather than into Brussels, but this kept on taking us in the wrong direction, into villages and farms.
In addition, your colleague in Brussels had assured us when we picked up the vehicle that
we would find a Shell service station at the airport on the way to and near the car
return carpark. We could not see a service station. This may be due to changes in the
airport approach following the recent problems a the aiport but, in any event, the advice was incorrect.
In view of the above, I consider it very harsh that you would insist on such exorbitant charges and respectfully request their reversal."
3 more e-mails were sent none was answered. At the end after the intervention of the Greek AVIS there was a refund of 10€ !!!!!!!!!!!!
Here is our last e-mail to them:
"I consider the refund of 10,20 euro derogatory. Avis ought to know that
access to the airport had changed and consequently we would not pass a
petrol station. Instead it overcharged us for petrol which we had every
intention of topping up. We were misinformed by your agent and you choose
to take no responsibility for this.
As for the blithe and insulting contention that there are signs to the airport
everywhere in Brussels, as if we were illiterate or totally ignorant, I repeat for
the nth time that we were travelling from Bruges and needed to make sure
that we took the correct entry into Brussels, directly to the airport, etc. The
GPS system would not accept "Brussels airport" as a destination and required
a street address. In any case, I consider the extra day's charge for a few
minutes delay opportunistically excessive.
I also need to point out that you chose not to respond directly to my various
emails and required the intervention of your Athens office to do so. Had the
issue not gone so far, we would never have known about the 10,20 euro
overcharge.
Consequently, we have multiple reasons to avoid Avis in future and naturally
to warn friends and the general public to also avoid you if they don't want to
be subjected to the same treatment."
BE WARNED: GIVEN A CHANCE avis WILL FLEECE YOU IN COLD BLOOD. read more
