The only thing I like here is the Cuban. My loves the place so I've eaten many of them. She likes the grilled apple and Brie which is well crafted and a salad. The salad looks like the rough on number nine and to eat it you need a pitching wedge. If you want a $6 beer thus is the place for it. Service is stilted. Staff comes off as arrogant. It can be difficult to even make eye contact as they rush by. The ambiance is cool. Sunday brunch is over priced and frankly not that good compared to others. We were in Gainesville for a family gathering and choose to eat here because they have a Sunday brunch buffet and boy did we make the right decision! First of all, the atmosphere and decor are quaint and pleasant. It's a small restaurant in an old store or something on the very cute Gainesville downtown square. The buffet was delicious! They had a very nice variety of breakfast and lunch foods. The menu was imaginative and well put together. They had Caesar salad, and avocado salad (delicious and fresh), frittatas, grits, fried fish strips, mixed veggies and brisket. There was more, but that's what I remember. There was a separate table with desserts and a nice variety. Coconut cannolis, creme brûlée's, brownies, banana pudding and a couple more things. We all shared and tries bites of everything and it was all delicious! The wait staff was terrific too! They catered to our every need and they were delightful. And as if that wonderful buffet weren't enough (believe me, it was plenty) they also make to order pancakes, french toast, eggs Benedict and omelets! I had eggs Benedict and they were delicious. A couple of people o our group had Nutella French toast and they loved it! So, we can't say enough good things about our brunch at Avocados! We all loved it, every single bit of it! read more

Had the fried lobster tail with steak and mashed potatoes and a vegetable. The lobster tail greasy, the mashed potatoes tasted reheated with too much butter flavor. And the steak, oh my goodness, I truly believe they cut these pieces off of steak that was left on patrons plates that didn't finish their meal. The beef truly tasted bad and reheated. There for the first time for brunch. Typical brunch buffet fare plus ala carte options included. Promptly seated and drink orders taken, as well as ala carte orders. After this point the service became very inattentive. With a buffet and new plates each trip, diners shouldn't have to track down their server to get the table cleared. Had to wave to server each time we needed drink refills as well. The visit was disappointing because we were hopeful to find a regular Gainesville brunch spot, but this wasn't it. Cute cafe w/ charm, comfort and kick-ass cuisine. Why have I never ventured to the Gainesville square before? Our server was dipped in Southern sweetness (with the right touch of hipster edge) & was attentive to our requests, but not in a nosy way - the perfect balance of "I'll give you a moment" without jumping down our throats. I had the Square Omelet, and may I just say Ahhhmmmazing. With a restaurant name like "Avocados" you expect that ingredient to play a starring role in many of the dishes, and its inclusion in the monstrous omelet did not fail to impress my belly! The homefries on the side were also good, and my friend's veggie fajitas were a nice varied mix of vegetables that weren't swimming in oil. (She was a little disappointed that their menu was pretty skimpy on the vegetarian options, but the colorful quality (and quantity!) of items to cram into tortillas in her entree made up for it.) The early evening sunshine made the sidewalk tables great for people watching. Living only 15-20 min. away, I still don't know how I haven't made it to this area of Gainesville before, but I'm glad that I did, and I look forward to venturing into all the restaurants around, that is, if I can get past the urge to have another square omelet again. read more

One of my favorite restaurants I'm Gainesville! Love the location on the square, my favorite spot is by the window so you can look out at the square and people watch. The service is always very good and friendly. They get really crowded we lunch hour. I love to go for Saturday brunch, even though they serve breakfast all day. I always get the square omelet... If I'm splurging I get the home fries or I will get fresh fruit. For lunch / mmmm depends in what you are in the mood for... But you can't go wrong with the treat of a burger (huge!) or the grilled cheese with tomato and bacon. With seasoned fries. Absolutely enough for 2 people. The chicken sandwich with advacado and roasted red pepper with a side of fruit is also great. I've been to one lunch meeting here in the upstairs room which they catered buffet style with pasta and grilled chicken and homemade bread that is to die for. And the dessert selection - wow... Usually don't have room but I have had the pecan pie and it was fabulous. I usually go for more if breakfast and lunch, so I can't say much about dinner. Would have been nice to know that the only thing they have on Sunday morning is a $22 brunch buffet before I waited 45 for them to open at 10am. Especially when the website and yelp website say they have a breakfast and brunch menu. If you offer a regular breakfast menu it should be available, if it's not for some reason, there should be a blatant sign. Also, as a 5ft 115lb woman, there is absolutely no way I can eat $22 worth of food, and for kids it's $14. What a rip off. read more

I bookmarked this place a long time ago and finally had the chance to visit. I'm glad I went! We had a nice dinner with friendly service in a quirky environment and I would definitely return. Had a Georgia Peach cocktail (delicious) and fish and chips. The fries were a bit soggy, but the fish was fresh and lightly fried - a really nice preparation. My husband had the chicken fajitas and loved them. Service was friendly. We were worried that the musician would be too loud (it is a big echoing space) but that wasn't the case at all. read more

A restaurant named after one of my favorite foods?! I love it. I also love a restaurant that has gluten-free options! I usually get the Artisan Salad when I go for lunch and it's delightful. The greens are always very fresh, the chicken is cooked to perfection (you can tell it's never frozen), and the house dressing is light, yet flavorful. Not to mention the healthy serving of at least half an avocado they toss on top. They also offer gluten free bread instead of the normal bread that comes with it. Easily one of the best salads I've found in Gainesville, but the rest of the menu is great, too! Their fries are just perfect! I'm often here for lunch and the crowd is mostly business lunchers, and the atmosphere is calm with music playing in the background. I do however, love dinner here! They have live music most nights and the place fills up and is very lively. It's a great local spot with great food! read more

Stopped in for a quick breakfast before court. However, there was nothing quick about it. Was seated right away, but sat waiting to give our drink orders. Although it was not crowded, it was then another lengthy wait to give food order. When I put order in, I explained we had an appointment, but had to ask for a box right away. After all said, the food I did get to shovel in was good and made well. I wish that I had more time to enjoy. On our way from Atlanta back to Asheville we realized that it's going to be too late to grab food in AVL and decided to get something on the way. Avocados advertised vegetarian and vegan options so there er went. Long story short there were two vegetarian options on the menu one was a Main another one a salad, the only vegan one was chips and guacamole, well great. We took both vegetarian options and a side of fries. We never saw a cocktail menu but other people had margaritas, they had expensive wine and some beers but I could not find anything local that interested me, it's hard when you live somewhere with tons of breweries. The restaurant is nice, not cozy but nice one wall exposed brick another orange/yellow with pictures of different artists. They advertise themselves over the door on a big chalk board, and I was really wondering how much of the items on the menus really are local? Our food was one quinoa bowl ( not local) and a quinoa salad it tasted kind of almost like the same dish, one with Feta and cold the other with egg and warm, as I mentioned the fries never made it and were not mentioned again. A little more effort would be great a little more salt or pepper or other spices would be great it was bland and for what we got too expensive. The best way to describe this breakfast is mediocre. For a restaurant called avocados they have little to no avocado on the menu and very few healthy options if that's what you are looking for. One of the few places we've been to in Gainesville that can cook truly gluten-free food. The server was willing to work with us to make sure my wife's hamburger and bread were all cooked and toasted in a clean and separate pan from all the other orders.
