The staff was really nice. It was expensive since it was a breakfast buffet but the quality made it worth while. completely blown away by the breakfast buffet. LOVE this restaurant. It's the BEST restaurant in Gainesville and my boyfriend and I frequent them at least once a month. The staff here is fantastic and always super positive. I really like when they have live music during weeknights and they even have an after hours bar upstairs to enjoy a cocktail or two after dinner. Huge fan of the dinner specials and the ribeye and fries. Totally dig their quinoa bowls and their moscato. Finally got to Avocados for dinner (my previous review was for Lunch). Service was fast and attentive. I've decided that the thing to do at Avocados is to always get one of the specials. We ordered chips and salsa for app. And we finished the chips with half a cup of salsa left the waitress asked if we would like more chips so we said yes, come to find out she charged us $3 for the extra chips ( this should be told that the chips are extra ). No happy first and last time to visit. Response from owner on checkout app. "Thank you for your feedback! We do not usually charge for extra chips, especially if you had salsa left over. Very odd experience here we met friends for lunch. First time for all of us. The waitress was friendly. We enjoyed our food. Nothing special but we'll prepared. However the entire restaurant was covered with torn sheets of paper talking about Jesus and Christianity and we found that very off putting in a public restaurant. I would have been uncomfortable taking any Jewish or Muslim friends there. It seemed inappropriate and I am not likely to return there. read more

Disappointing. I usually judge a restaurant by its flow of traffic and this place was packed. I was alone and 3 people walked past me and I didn't get greeted or seated, then it took 15 min for someone to take my order. At lunch! Everyone on the patio had finished their meal so not sure what took so long. The Cuban was a huge disappointment. Bread was stale and tough, ham was on the verge of bad. The fries seemed like they had been double fried to make them hot. They were all crusty and hollow. Maybe that's the way they serve them. So after tip I was into $16. Cuban, fries and soda water. Yikes. I even told my server I didn't like it and he took no action. Attempt to make it right and I will give you another chance. Ignore it and I will leave a review. Okay, I may be biased because any place that offers gluten free bread makes me do a happy dance, but I loved it here! The atmosphere reminded me a a coffee shop, laid back, colorful walls and artwork. I didn't get into any in depth conversation with the staff, but they seemed friendly and efficient. Timing was perfect, nothing took too long, everyone was pleasant. Now the food. I LOVED the food! I ordered the apple and Brie sandwich on gf bread, and substituted the fries for an artisan salad. Normally when you get a side salad for lunch it's a dinky thing with just lettuce, maybe a cucumber or a tomato. Two if you're lucky. This side salad actually came with a half an avocado, feta cheese, and the dressing was perfect! My sandwich was delicious, the melted Brie complimented the apple slices, and the gf bread was grilled perfectly. I can't wait to come back here again! So I have always been a fan of Avacados. Food is always consistently delicious. I had their special soup today that was beyond my imagination of what a butternut soup could taste like!! To be honest, when a friend and I went, it was very crowded, the staff seemed somewhat irritated by us coming in. We were seated quickly, and ordered without any issues, however when it came to the food we were just so disappointed. For the price we paid, it took so long- and then my friends food was super burnt, like, her fries were inedible- I mentioned it, but the man serving the plates laughed it off and walked away quickly. I was being nice, but I wasn't kidding, so that was awkward. Then our waiter accidentally poured water into her sprite, we mentioned that and he seemed confused why we were asking for a new one. The check came around, they'd tried to charge us for the second drink, and I was just appalled by then. Other parties seemed to be having a good time, and as I walked by, it seemed like most of their entrees came out just fine, so I'm trying to give them the benefit of the doubt here and say maybe we just had some bad luck that day- who knows. read more

I've never had fried oysters before, but I'm definitely a fan. They were served with spinach and cream sauce. The batter was crunchy but not too heavy. I had salmon, brazed greens, and mac n cheese for dinner. The salmon was cooked perfectly, but a bit sour with a lot of lemon, still refreshing though. The "brazed greens" were lettuce and spinach browned with salt and pepper, not terrible but I was expecting collard greens, could have used a bit more flavor like garlic or hot sauce even. The mac n cheese was definitely 5 star worthy, baked in an individual ceramic cup. It had onion in it which was a nice surprice, very creamy would definitely recommend. They serve fresh fried tortilla chips made from real tortillas, only thing I would comment would be to add less salt as I don't eat salt, but they were amazing. The staff and ambiance is very peaceful. Easy parking. A little on the pricy side though. $18.75 for a small dinner plate. read more

A group of ten of my friends including some children dined here last Thursday night, November 16th. We frequently dine here and consistently have horrible service and terribly long waits. This night was no exception. Only after this night, none of us will ever dine here again. After being there for three hours, waiting on our food over an hour, we served a pitiful dish of scallops for my daughters dinner. I reviewed the restaurant on Facebook and I would love to share the managers reply. PLEASE READ! Hi Mandy, I do appologize you were disappointed. Myself and several of our Amazing service and culinary staff did everything in our reach to please you and your group. In light of the City of Gainesville's efforts to drive citizens and families to the square to see Santa, we at Avocados went into the evening very well staffed, extremely well prepared, stocked to the gills, and keenly focused to accommodate our city's young families tonite. You have no idea how many positive comments I received tableside from the moms and dads with kids dining at Avocados tonite. This is really not the best opportunity you've chosen to run a full critique on our menu, our people, our seafood dishes vs our competitors, our seasoned kitchen staff when there were clearly over 2000 citizens who came to the square tonite of which 380-400 guests actually dined at Avocados and most told me how delicious their meals were. My longest ticket time was 56 minutes and it was your table. Frankly, way outside the norm of our own best expectation. I recall greeting you, seating some of you, running your food, discussing the scallop dish with you at length, that btw was sent out exactly to the specifications of the dish as it should have been when ordering the Scallop "Entree" as a $10 "appetizer" portion. I can assure you there is nothing we could, should, or will be doing differently when we recap last nights activity tomorrow with our owners. I'd like to request that you please help Avocados to help the community, and help others in need by returning the gift certificate I gave you to the Avocados sidewalk mailbox; mostly because you were so clearly disappointed with the scallop appetizer you ordered and yet never touched; as it appeared to me you were eating with your eyes instead of your mouth. By not even trying it, you offended the chef who put forth a stellar effort to execute your dish for you amongst the throngs of chicken tenders and fries that was dominating the kitchens time while he was skillfully plating up your appetizer. We really have far to many citizens in Gainesville out there going hungry who we'd like to pay it forward to and offer your gift certificate to, since you claim you are never coming back. From the statements you've made to the www on Facebook, I for one happen to believe that you won't likely return. We don't always do everything right at Avocados, but tonight the team of employees I'd assembled to serve our city's young families was in my view rather exemplary, and as a Manager I'm proud of how the entire team stepped up and responded to such a crush of citizens trying to eat in a small 90 seat independently owned restaurant. Yikes. This was my second time, but the first time going for brunch and eating inside. The "decor" is torn rectangles of white butcher paper with Bible verses written in sharpie - it seriously looks like they were written by children, or maybe by an adult with terrible handwriting who had too much of the holy spirits. It's very cringey and off-putting. Especially considering how much they have the audacity to charge for their brunch. $25 gives you access to a 7-10 option buffet with mostly lunch foods and a dessert section. You can also order from the a la carte menu, which has more breakfast options like omelettes, French toast, etc. I asked my waiter, what if I only want to order the French toast? Is it still $25? The answer was yes! That's wild. AND you want a glass of juice? No refills and it's an additional $4. If I had been with my husband instead of meeting a friend, I would have left. Between the alienating "art" (is it always like that now, or is that a marketing ploy they use to entice the post-church service crowd?) and the outlandish prices for food only marginally better than say, O'Charley's, Avocados won't be a place I'll visit again. read more

We stopped here after trout fishing in North Georgia. We were tired and starving. Our mood was instantly changed by amazing food and wonderful service . I got an avocado steak salad. I asked for medium steak and it was cooked to perfection. My son ordered a grilled cheese and it was full of the "good cheddar cheese" if you know what i mean. This place wasn't packed at all and I don't know why because the atmosphere is great, staff is very friendly and attentive, and the food was clutch. Avocados is one of my favorite Gainesville restaurant for three reasons: food, people, management. Tthe omelette or the lovely artisian salad with grilled salmon on it are the main dishes that I order. Both dishes are consistently well prepared. Also, the coffee is good. The servers and other patrons are friendly. Since Avocados is a gathering place for locals, running into friends and aquaintances is likely and I love to meet and greet. The management is excellent and everything flows from that. Albert, the owner, circulates checking in with patrons and makes sure everything is going well. Many of the staff stay for years and that speaks volumes about the management. Bravo Avocados! read more

I'll start by saying the service is good, they're always nice and attentive. The food is mediocre at best, you'd have a better meal at McDonald's. The worst part has to be the decor. I don't know if the owner is manic or something but the walls are covered in quotes from the Bible and Christian propaganda, it's crazy and makes a very uncomfortable environment. Me and Girlfriend always enjoy coming here, but today we received the worst service ever. We waited 10-15 before WE decided to grab a waiter to serve us. It's a little frustrating because servers saw us clearly sitting there waiting patiently. We only saw one server. We never saw the server assigned to that section. Jordan was his name. We're quiet disappointed in the service today. We're not one to complain. As we're both servers. This was a delicious restaurant that we happened to stop at for a quick bite to eat for lunch. I highly recommend this restaurant when in the downtown Gainesville area. I ordered the turkey BLT and fries. So good! The chips and guacamole is a must! The guacamole is made there in the restaurant and tastes so fresh. I love that they serve the silverware with plates so I don't have to place them on the table. The atmosphere is very artistic and quaint. There is plenty of cozy seating inside and outside for nice days. Probably not for big groups but for a nice lunch for 1-4 perfect. Wait staff was friendly and proud of the food they are serving.
