In search of a new place to get my daily 10,000 steps, I came across Glenlake Park. What an…read moreincredible experience. This park is connected to a beautiful cemetery with such interesting history and views. It is so calming walking the paved paths amongst the burial sites and seeing the love and adoration of the families caring for their ancestors' resting places over the years. This park also has a tennis court, a public pool, a basketball court, a small baseball field, a general field, a pond, and a playground. It is clean and quiet, and those visiting the park are incredibly friendly. I tend to rate parks based on their visitors, and most of my "good evenings" were met with a very pleasant response unlike some of the more busy parks in ATL. There were families riding their bikes together, couples strolling amongst the graveyard, an older gentleman fishing in the pond, young men competing on the basketball court, people respectfully walking their dogs, a yoga session happening in the field and much more. This park is a catch-all for any age and experience. I'm sure I'm missing some of the amenities -- it has a lot to offer. Shout out to Decatur for maintaining this little gem. I highly recommend.

It features a large field perfect for sports and recreation, a well-maintained dog park, and a basketball court that's always in great condition. The playground is ideal for little ones, and there's a lovely pavilion available for small outdoor events. It's such a pristine and inviting place to spend time!

Medlock Park - Little stream area with sand. Located behind the field closest to the pool.

A hidden gem! This 39-acre park with athletic fields also offers a playground, swimming pool, trials, baseball fields and picnic area. Offers beautiful nature, creeks, old water works, train viewing bridge along the way. Shows how beneficial even a 1 mile of trail can be to connect neighbors, and offer an alternate, pleasant travel corridor. They have a nice picnic area and a beautiful walking path. There a baseball park here and open batting cages. Great place to take the kiddies and families. And you have the excellent South Peachtree Creek Trail for a walk starting there. Right now the restrooms are closed due to Covid situation. It's a dog friendly park. Walk from Willevee Drive across boardwalk and path to Mason Mill Park which is a very peaceful trial. The trail connects to other trails so could be good for a short walk or a longer run if you wanted to keep going. It's an easy enough walk for most to handle. Well shaded by trees and also saw several bike riders, strollers, and wheelchairs. There are well marked signs to inform walkers and runners of distance and elevation, as well as seating along the trail for rest and nature watching. A wonderful place to explore or relax. Parking is usually plentiful during the week. Very well maintained and policed. I would really recommend this place.

I feel like most playgrounds in Dekalb are closed, and then there's this muddy, dilapidated monstrosity. It's seriously always a mud pit. I don't get why there's always so many kids here.. and that's why I can't take my son, he's two, he could walk by and enjoy the rest of the park but always hears the other kids and HAS to run over. Half the swings are missing. The bottom of the slides are almost 2 feet off the ground, even on the little playground, launching unsuspecting kids right into the muddy grime. I love most of Dekalb parks, but this one is an embarrassment.

It's very easy to inflate and carry down to the river and you can reuse time and time again. If you go this route, it's best to go with another party that can park at the finish spot so you have a ride back to your car when you're all done. The water is pretty calm. It can be a little chilly at first, but you get used to it eventually. I like to bring a paddle with me so I can better control my float. The whole trip takes about 3 hours to enjoy. So bring some friends, pack some drinks and snacks, and enjoy a lazy afternoon on the river.

Upon arriving, the website says that they have different hours of operation on the weekdays and weekends and depending on water levels and condition of day. We came on a Saturday around 3, when last bookings for rentals are at 4. One staff member said they stopped doing walk ins, however they changed their mind so we got lucky.. they charge for the tube which was $22, a "convenience fee," and shuttle charge for $4 a person. And if you want a square cooler tube it was $10. It was a kind of an unprofessional environment with young adults working the table to take in our payments. You have to leave one ID of the whole group you're with for security reasons I'm assuming, but you get it back at the end. Now, we got our tubes and life jackets and off to the Chattahoochee we go! The water was freezing cold even though it was a hot 90° outside. The thing that sucked most was my tube I was in, was already starting to deflate, along with another tube deflating slowly as well. That's wonderful.. There was an accident that happened on the ride down the river. My boyfriend had a shoulder injury previously, and somehow his shoulder dislocated while trying to push off a pier to get us away from the side.. well that was unexpected. It was tough to even get him out of the river and we didn't finish until after 6pm almost 7 by the time I went to grab my ID. And on my way towards the shuttle, not only did it stopped at 6, I wasn't even told they stopped running by that time. So the only option was to take a 5 minute lyft/Uber or walk 30+ minutes back to the starting point where the car is parked.
