Enjoyed trying the sampler plate at Awash. Thought the quantity of food was a little slim, but I am always a growing boy!

We had a wonderful group dinner at Awash on a snowy Chicago night that was full of warm vibes. It was so memorable that everyone in the group--living in four different cities--agreed that we're going to meet there again in 2026! The waitress served us a fragrant tea at the perfect temperature at the end of our meal. She lit incense right afterwards that floated over to our table and kept us feeling full and grateful. The spicing on all of the dishes was delicious. This place is special.

SO AMAZING!!! All the entrees were incredibly flavorful, the meat dishes tender, the injera fresh. There was a bit of a wait but we were a rather large party!! Also the sambusas were super duper fresh!! 100% recommend as someone from the DMV!!! Some of the best I've had.

It was my first time having Ethiopian food and it was fantastic! We had great service and the food was awesome. Will be back for sure.

The veggie sampler with Yebeg Tibs Alicha (#31) Perfect to split. :) and one order of Beef Sambusa

So delicious! We ate in the restaurant. Very clean, clean bathrooms. Wonderful friendly staff. Listened to our preferences and made recommendations. Spot on! Highly recommend! Ps. Very random but their water tasted to usually good.. clean, crisp, cold. I know it's weird but, it was great! And they had local (Ethiopian) beer. Great flavor! :)

I forgot the name of the food, but if you are seeing this photograph then the food was that good. My friend group and I came to this restaurant looking for something to eat, and this restaurant epitomizes the diversity that this city provides. If you are not eating at this restaurant yet, you are honestly missing out. The meat was well seasoned. I am totally coming back when I get the chance. If you are reading this review I advise you do the same. Trust me, you will not regret your time eating the food. If you do sit down here, I will say that you will wait a while for the food, so be patient. Other than the wait, the food and place is amazing.

I remember the potatoes, the beef tips or something, and the fish was delicious and I really liked the beets!!!! There were some lintels that were yummy too. We ordered wine bottles and a few of us ordered a signature cocktail-- those were pretty and they all said they were good. I ordered the spinach sambusas and I got the Gomen with two sides: the red lentils and the yellow lentils. The sambusas were served as a trio and they are a good size, with hefty portions of spinach inside. The problems was that they were heavily overly seasoned. And they were served with a minuscule pink colored dipping sauce which did not pair well with the flavor of these appetizers at all. The njera came wrapped in plastic wrap, which I thought was an interesting choice since plastic doesn't hold heat well. Then I opened my main course and half of the plate is greens. Huge portion. And in the two side dish cups are what appear to look like red soup and yellow soup. The red lentils were very spicy. I'm used to a flavorful spice from Ethiopian red lentils, but these were not enjoyable. The yellow lentils had very little seasoning and the texture was like mashed potatoes. I did not enjoy this meal at all unfortunately.

I would definitely recommend Demera to anyone looking to try Ethiopian cuisine, whether it's your first time or you're already a fan. If you're planning a date night in Uptown, this is a great place to start the evening, then head across the street to the Green Mill for live jazz and cocktails. It makes for a fun night out!

There was water immediately, but then there simply wasn't a server. When he finally arrived (from outside the restaurant?) it was close to 8. Nice guy, but we were hungry. Placed our order and waited. And waited. He finally came by to say the food would be out soon, as others around us were served and lots of carryout orders flew out the door. Our too tiny appetizers came, but nothing more. We waited and remained hungry. We asked him to check, and we waited. When the food finally arrived it was past 8:30. We had ordered the four person platter, for four people, but it simply wasn't enough. We wanted to order more, but again there was no waiter available and a sad realization that it might take another hour. We paid and left. Bottom line is that we arrived hungry, we sat hungry for over an hour, and we left unsatisfied.

My Demera Messob combo had injera bread roll which is essentially a sourdough crepe. It was great for scooping up the sauce in the ye-beg wot (lamb) and doro wot (spicy chicken). Namely,…read morethe food you're getting is probably not going to be the best version of what the restaurant is and the price will definitely be on the higher end. Demera is no exception to that. I've dined at their regular brick and mortar restaurant and also have eaten plenty of Ethiopian restaurants when I used to live in the DC area. For me, the food here is a a little below what you'd get at the regular location, and for $18 for the combo, it definitely feels a bit lacking on quantity. But that's the thing with dining out at Timeout Market. You don't go here expecting to have an amazing meal. Especially when you're in the west loop with so many great spots. You dine here because you're with picky and/or indecisive eaters and you're just trying to hangout and eat some food. There's so many vendors here there's a little something for everyone even if it's not the best version of it. And so for that, I can't really fault Demera since it was still a solid meal. The meat combo was well seasoned (I prefer the chicken over the beef if you were to pick one), the mushroom tibs was fine, I enjoyed what I got.
