The restaurant is in the center of Ethiopian village. It's a bit pricey for the portion. You get tons of bread but not enough toppings. I got the vegetarian samplers and it only came with 7 types of dishes, each of them occupied a small corner of a huge plate. If you have eaten Ethiopian before around the US, this place doesn't stand out that much, but it's still decent. Great service and cozy restaurant.

Ethiopian Diamond definitely lived up to their reputation for being one of the best ethiopian restaurants in Chicago! Got the classic meat sampler for 1, which was reasonably priced and every side was on point! Still warm after a 30 min drive delivery. Kik alicha (yellow split peas) and yesga alicha (beef stew) were my favorite. Everything was juicy, so well seasoned, and not as spicy as other meat and veggies combos I've had at other places. Sambusas were smaller than I expected but really tasty as well. Highly recommend the beef one, the potato and carrot one is good too but mostly carrot. The sauce I'm used to getting with sambusa is the spicy red awaze sauce which is usually a bit too spicy for me, but this one was more sweet and sour vibes which I actually really liked (probably still has berbere spice blend though I assume). Will be my go-to spot for Ethiopian food!

Very simple aesthetics but great time trying Ethiopian food for the first time. Went with the tea and the vegetarian platter. Enjoyed the food and the service.

Ethiopian Diamond is easily the best Ethiopian food in Chicago. I'm never disappointed when I go. If you go in a party of two or more, I can't recommend the tibs sampler enough. The mead is delicious and the tea hits the spot after your meal to help digest. This is a spot I will keep coming to for years.

    Drinks and our sambusa.

An unassuming storefront with a weathered awning is home to a city gem. There's plenty of room inside for parties of varying size. Our group of 8 walked in on a Saturday night with no reservations. We need to fix that. If you've never tried Ethiopian food, you're in for an experience. It's great for vegetarians AND carnivores. You also eat with your hands so no worrying about which fork or plate to use! (Don't worry. There is a hand washing station, separate from the restrooms.) Various dishes are served on a plate of fresh injera - a spongy flatbread made with teff. I did notice on the menu that a teff-only injera was offered so if you're gluten-free ask about the injera. We shared a vegetarian sampler for two, which included two sambusa per person - think something like a samosa or empanada - and more injera than you need. Plenty of street parking and a frozen custard place across the street!

I'm generally a carnivore, but this platter could persuade me. Filled with beans, greens and more - I loved the communal dining style with a sourdough flat bread like nothing I've ever had before. A little noisy when the restaurant was full, it was tough to hear the waitress. Other than that, a homerun.

The food was delicious and the portion was very large. I ordered twice on GrubHub and they were very efficient.

Went here for lunch and it was a very good experience. I loved the decor and how big the space was. The food was amazing and flavored immaculately. We ordered the 3 different sampler platters and I enjoyed the sense of community while eating. FYI there aren't any utensils so go with people you don't mind using hands to eat with. Staff was polite and attentive so all in all I give the experience a 4.8 out of 5

I ordered this on door dash ( so excuse the plating) but the food and portions were great . I asked for a bit extra spice in the side and they gave it to me and it was delish! The misir was especially great

We hopped the train and headed northward for lunch. Seating and service started a little slowly but picked up. Our order consisted of the tibs sampler for one and two doro tibs alicha (cubed chicken breast). It was more food than we could eat. We should have taken the suggestion to get the tibs sampler for two. The beef zilzil tibs were the most popular amongst us. We also enjoyed the vegetables. One brother is eating healthfully. It was my brothers' first introduction to this cuisine. There was plenty of injera. They honestly enjoyed the experience.

There's a first time for everything, right? Well, last night was when I had my inaugural Ethiopian meal in my more than 40 years on this planet. I blew my chance last year when I was in Washington, D.C. with its ubiquitous Ethiopian establishments so when I saw that my cousin lives close to some, I just had to seize the moment. Once again, Cousin Marlene **, was without my two nieces for an evening so she and I took the short drive to Ethiopian Diamond. Unassuming on the outside, go in and you'll be surprisingly greeted by the sight of a somewhat packed, dimly lit dining room. The nice gentleman who I assumed was the head of the eatery sat us close to the window with a good view of the L tracks and Broadway. We were when then given drinks and two meat-filled samosas ("It's just like an empanada," my cousin said after trying hers). Since we were first-timers, we kept our dinner simple and went with the Tibs Sampler and the Doro Tibs. Whatever the Ethiopian word for "wow" is, that's what I want to say. It's as if a cadre of different flavors ranging from salty to fiery to tangy got together in each of those dishes. I should also mention that this cuisine doesn't involve spoons and forks, but a unique bread called Injera, which diners use to scoop up the meat and vegetables. This is food meant to be eaten with a large group. Want to hear a funny story? I told my cousin how the Ethiopians feed each other with Injera full of anything, which she found surprising. I said it was a way for people to bond, almost like when they toast with drinks in their hands. ** Name changed to protect her privacy

Located on Elston a wee bit north of Montrose, Second City Meadery has been open for about 18 months. We tried the Intro Flight, four meads including Session City (grapefruit), Angelic (a "traditional" dry mead), Summer in the City (pineapple and peach mead with coconut), and Barrel Aged Wildflower (Michigan Wildflower aged in a whiskey barrel). Of the four, my love and I enjoyed Summer in the City the most, as it was a sweeter mead but not the sweetest. Our friends went with the splurgier Brewer's Flight. From their flight we tried a sip of the Blue Line (blueberry mead with vanilla and cashew), and we liked it so much that we ordered a glass of it. There was a handy water dispenser for us to hydrate ourselves between tasty sips of mead. While I am still a beer kind of guy, the meads were a fine changeup. Since we live very close by, I imagine we will visit again this summer.

We wanted to try it all so we ordered the Intro Flight and the Adanced Flight. These are all sweet and Hugh percentages, so be careful. I would definitely come back again for some mead.

The cocktail bar (the Honeybee Tiki Bar) is suitably tiki-themed, and you can get either mead-laced tiki drinks, or drinks from their tasting menu. I got a 1 oz pour of "Still Dreamin'" melomel made with orange blossom honey, orange zest and vanilla, as well as the 5 oz. "Tangerine Dream" session mead, which was lightly carbonated (tasted like a dreamsicle float, as opposed to the classic style of mead which is more viscous and not unlike a liqueur in texture). Both were very tasty, and this was a nice way to try different styles. My fiance had a mocktail with pineapple and passion fruit that still fit into the tiki vibe. Our server was attentive enough to be helpful but in the background enough to not be pestering us; good balance.
