In order of experience, I first noticed the ambiance - clean facilities , beautiful decor, and nice Ethiopian music playing in the background. The service was excellent. The server took time to explain the menu. The food was incredible and worth the short wait. It was obviously freshly made. I ordered the spicy zigin wat with yellow lentils and gomen. The sambusas, veggie dishes and injera was good. The dora watt was just okay. It's been a few years since I have Ethiopian and definitely would like to try other places to compare it to. Service: a little odd as I'm not sure as the waitress is not used to serving customers. We had to ask for extra plates, utensils and napkins. When we asked what each sambusa was - she went straight for the plate and cut them open. It was nice of her to do, but she didn't ask. It was more like we were visitors in her home. A quick dinner before the show at Riviera theater. Voted for the veggie patter. My kid went for the soumasa type thing for beef and lentil. My platter was expected with very nice soft bread with different veggie combinations. Perfect for a light dinner for me. My kids loved both options. Even though it was two entrees, the way they plated made it feel like a vegetarian platter with a side of Doro Wat. The portion size of the Doro Watdidn't quite meet my expectations. We visited Michuu on a Saturday night and had made a reservation. The food was amazing. We had a family of 5 adults. We had some sambusas both beef and lentil. They were fresh hot and delicious. We had 2 orders of the veggie combos for 1. We also got the Zil - Zil Tibs (beef) Doro Wat (chicken and egg) and the Yebeg Tibs (lamb). I know we are hogs but also took a lot home. They arranged all of that in the picture attached so we could easily share it all. The Yebeg Tibs was the most tender and delicious lamb I have ever had regardless of type of restaurant. Everything was fantastic. I have been to 3 Ethiopian restaurants and have made a few dishes myself. This was by far the best! The time to prepare and cook our meal must have been a lot, but we sure appreciate it. The chef/owner even helped wait tables. We look to coming back! read more

Terrible experience. Service: 0/5 Ambiance: 0/5 Food: 3/5 My partner and I were so excited to try this restaurant, as we love Ethiopian food. We ordered one drink and the vegetarian platter as well as Doro Wat (chicken dish). The drink never came even though we asked multiple times. There were no napkins on the table. We asked multiple times for napkins since your hands get very dirty eating Ethiopian. They finally came the third time I asked, but it was too late since we already finished the meal. Side plates never came either even though we asked twice. The food had good flavor but half of the vegetarian dishes were cold, though they've been served at every other Ethiopian restaurant we have been to. We had a 25% Entertainment Book coupon that the server refused to accept. He stated it had to be used during the week, we came on a Sunday, though the coupon didn't state that anywhere in the fine print. After going back and forth with the server he agreed to give us 10% off. Needless to say, we will not be coming back to this establishment as there are many other Ethiopian restaurants on the city that have much better food and actually provide service. read more

Make sure you have plenty of time to go here--it's basically a one-woman show. It's 100% absolutely worth it, but just expect to spend 2 or so hours here and plan accordingly. This is a delightful hole-in-the-wall Ethiopian place with a lot of dishes that aren't on most menus. Look up the Chicago Reader's article, which is how I found out about this place. I had two of the highland-regional dishes: the anchote is a really nice mush with a super rich flavor, and the ukaamsaa, while nowhere near as spicy as she cautioned us, was sort of an Ethiopian equivalent of laab in the way it mixed meat and vegetable flavors and textures. These came with the usual assortment of sides, which were all as good as you'll get anywhere. The lentils are the creamiest I've ever had. My only complaint would be that the food is very salty. I didn't notice this while eating it, but found myself very dehydrated and a bit bloated the next day. But it was worth it. read more

My wife and I tried Michuu for the fist time last night,we have been to 4 or 5 Ethiopian restaurants ,and Michuu is by far the best we've tried. It is a cozy spot that offers an extensive selection of authentic dishes. I tried thier afani nicely seasoned, I had asked for extra hot spice,they delivered! We also had the veggie combo,very delicious and after meat sambusas and dorowot chicken, honey wine,we were extremely satisfied. Kudos to Tolina,the owner and our server! To begin with the food was really delicious. I do recommend this place. I am glad to see the really positive reviews. These folks deserve it. The location is not the best. Even on a Saturday night nobody seems to be walking this way. And the other businesses nearby do not create any good synergy. It's not an unsafe area at all. There's just nothing that invites you to head down this block on the street. But you really should because the food at Michu is a treat. The lighting was overly bright and the music too loud. Fortunately our server kindly turned it way down when we asked. Everything is very clean inside and I can tell they've taken great care in making the best environment with perhaps limited resources. Oh my goodness!!! This restaurant is just a delight! My friend brought me in today and I could not thank her enough (she said she's only brought her closest friends here so that on top of the food made this meal so sweet). We got a veggie/legumes spread (I forgot what it was called) with delicious tea on the side. The food was absolutely delicious, each bite was so yummy!!! I wish the meal never ended even though I was so full by the end. The tea was brought out towards the end which was a perfect way to end the meal with a soothing warm drink to bring a big warm hug to my stomach after a beautiful meal. The lady who served us was so delightful and even remembered my friend from last time she was there. The whole experience felt like a big warm hug (perfect for the snowy day today) and was reminiscent of a home cooked meal by a mother. What impressed me the most was the quality of the food. I love Ethiopian cuisine and had many of my favorite dishes, such as Doro Wot, Alicha Tibs, Misir Wot, and Kiosta. I was very impressed with their corn-based injera. It was delicious and traditionally, it is served with a chicken stew that is flavored with berbere sauce, ginger, garlic, and onions. Amazingly fresh and tasty! I've been to pretty much all the Ethiopian places in the Uptown/Edgewater area, and most of them many times, but my experience here was by far the best. Incredibly fresh, light ( I.e. not heavy or greasy), and luxuriously aromatic food. They also have my favorite tiff injera that I've had. Pleasantly decorated with charming and friendly staff.
