Finding Awash is rather easy. It is right off of 441, one of the major connecting arteries in the Tri-county area. On top of that, the moment you walk in you feel at home. The young man at the door, Amar, is incredibly friendly and welcoming. You can immediately see that it is a staple in the neighborhood. Not only are there people who seem to be regulars seating at a table, but couples in what appear to be dates, in booths all around. The decor is also incredibly beautiful, authentic, and on brand. But the star of the show was the food. Despite being 7:30PM I started by ordering the Ethiopian Coffee. There are only so many chances you're ever going to get to try coffee from the birthplace of coffee, and so, I had to. This was followed by the TASTE OF AWASH FOR (1) 26.99 & FOR (2) 35.99. Let's just say it was all to die for. The seasonings, the flavors, the softness of the enjera (the spongy, sour-fermented flatbread used to mix and spoon all the other elements). It was all so perfectly delicious! Amar's brother was also incredibly helpful. He finished our order and was incredibly gracious to answer a lot of our questions about Ethiopia, the region, and the history of the restaurant, which has been in business for 9 years. It took over 15 minutes just to get the check. I was there past their closing time but not because I wanted to. It's small place, almost sparely decorated, but my reason for going is the food, not ornate decor. The service is quite attentive and, importantly, knowledgeable about the food. We know Ethiopian food, but a refresher is helpful. Considering the number of people in the small place, the food appeared pretty quickly, freshly made. The experience was surreal. We went with zero expectations as none of us had tried Ethiopian cuisine. We were lucky to have nice Ethiopian family sitting next to us, who guided us and even gave a taste of what they ordered. We ordered The Meat Sambusa (Samosa for Indians), The Taste of Awash, Lamb Tibs, an extra plate of Injera bread, Ethiopian Beer and Ethiopian coffee. This was my first time trying Ethiopian food and I really loved it. We mentioned to our server that it was our first time here and he didn't really make any recommendations but I'd checked out the menu beforehand so I already knew I was going to get the Awash sampler in order to get to taste their top sellers. My husband ordered their special tibs entree which were beef cubes with onions, peppers and chiles served with some chili pepper seasoning on the side. We started with an appetizer of beef sambusas which were delicious phyllo dough filled with spicy ground beef served with a spicy red dipping sauce on the side. Both of us enjoyed our entrees and thankfully my husband shared mine with me since it was a lot of food. My favorites of the samples I had were the vegetarian dishes and I can't wait to go back to order the vegetarian sampler platter. I did like the chicken and beef samples but the flavors of the different veggies with their different spices were the most memorable. Everything is served with Injera. a delicious spongelike bread with which you eat your food with, no utensils required or expected here! Service was good, only one server and the place did start to fill up pretty quickly on a late Saturday afternoon but we never had to wait too long for anything. I went to dinner with my wife at the "Awash Eithiopian Restaurant", on a Friday. The place was almost empty. It is located conveniently off of NW 2nd Avenue. I will never return again. The food was atrocious and portions vey small. I went because I trusted the squishy liberals extolling it and giving it such high praise on "Dining Out In South Florida"on WPBT, Channel 2. We ordered an appetizer which tasted like spanokapita but had a luke warm flavorless meat paste on the inside. Yech! My wife ordered the lamb and it was not lamb. It was old goat meat mixed in with a little bit of tomato and onions. The amount was small and the price was $21.50. It tasted bland and came in a small restaurant steel oval shaped dish. I ordered the sampler of chicken beef and vegetable platter for $25.90. It came on a wide piece of rolled flat dough. The veggies were common ordinary mushy pasty like veggies , collards beans, cabbage, and garbanzos with a micro piece of a chicken drumstick and a small hand full of beef puree. Awful! Just awful. The ambience was dull, dingy and depressing. How can this disgrace to the restaurant business even stay open? It was truly a forgetable experience! read more

First time trying Ethiopian cuisine and overall I was happy with the experience. I ordered the Taste of Awash for Two and it was huge. I think it can easily feed about three people (come hungry). The platter came with red lentils, regular lentils, collard greens, chickpeas, spicy chicken with a hard-boiled egg and cottage cheese, some meat, and cooked veggies, all served over injera (with extra injera tucked between the different dishes). My favorites were definitely the red lentils and the spicy chicken with the hard boiled egg. Those had the most flavor compared to the others. They had no mint for their lemonade so I had a regular lemonade, but it was really refreshing and paired well with the meal. Service started off strong and attentive, but fell off slightly toward the end when it came to bringing the check. Still, everyone was nice and attentive overall. Since this was my first time having Ethiopian food, I'd say Awash was a good introduction. This establishment was hidden in the corner. The look was so cute and just native to their country which I loved. I loved the fresh drinks they make here I have been trying to get the avacado smoothie but it is always out when I ask. I always have the fish I love it let me tell you it is spicy but I love that .
