Finding Awash is rather easy. It is right off of 441, one of the major connecting arteries in the Tri-county area. On top of that, the moment you walk in you feel at home. The young man at the door, Amar, is incredibly friendly and welcoming. You can immediately see that it is a staple in the neighborhood. Not only are there people who seem to be regulars seating at a table, but couples in what appear to be dates, in booths all around. The decor is also incredibly beautiful, authentic, and on brand. But the star of the show was the food. Despite being 7:30PM I started by ordering the Ethiopian Coffee. There are only so many chances you're ever going to get to try coffee from the birthplace of coffee, and so, I had to. This was followed by the TASTE OF AWASH FOR (1) 26.99 & FOR (2) 35.99. Let's just say it was all to die for. The seasonings, the flavors, the softness of the enjera (the spongy, sour-fermented flatbread used to mix and spoon all the other elements). It was all so perfectly delicious! Amar's brother was also incredibly helpful. He finished our order and was incredibly gracious to answer a lot of our questions about Ethiopia, the region, and the history of the restaurant, which has been in business for 9 years. All in all, I highly recommend Awash Ethiopian Restaurant. In all honesty, I can't wait to go back!

I came to Awash because I wanted to try Ethiopian food for the first time, and I'm so glad I did. The restaurant has a lot of cultural flair and feels authentic--the crowd was mostly families, some of whom seemed to know the waiter well, which to me was a great sign. Our waiter was wonderfully patient, especially since it was our first Ethiopian dining experience. He took the time to explain the menu in detail and share some of the traditions, which made the meal even more special. Service was on the slower side, but it felt intentional--this is the kind of place where you linger over food and conversation rather than rush in and out. I ordered the Awash Vegetarian Combo, while my friends tried the Taste of Awash meat combo. Both had standout items, but my favorite across the board was the Gomen (collard greens)--absolutely delicious. The lentil dishes were savory, though for my taste they could have used a bit more seasoning. Eating with injera bread was such a fun and interactive experience. For dessert, I went with their Ethiopian coffee, which was a treat in both flavor and presentation. The baklava was fine--sweet and enjoyable, though not particularly memorable. Overall, Awash feels like a hidden gem. Now that I've had the sampler, I'd refine my choices next time, but I'd definitely come back. I just wish it were a little closer to me.

My experience at Awash started off so strong but by the end, it became a bit underwhelming & a bit frustrating. The Good: - The food was really good, really flavorful. I tried the Awash platter and got a little bit of everything. I also tried their lemonade and it was really fresh. The food took a while to come out but that wasn't a big deal, about 20+ minutes. The not so good: The service was very 50/50. Though they were very nice they were very inattentive. The lemonade came after the food, likely cause they forgot about it. We were done eating for quite some time but the gentleman (our server) disappeared. When I asked for the bill the girl at the front brushed it off. Like "yea yea it'll come". It took over 15 minutes just to get the check. I was there past their closing time but not because I wanted to. So after waiting almost half an hour to be able to leave, you can say the vibes weren't there anymore. Overall, the food is good. Service can use some improvements. And the place itself is decorated nicely and feels cozy.

I drive 40 minutes just to come here. Service is always good. Food is delicious. There's always music playing and incense lit. Can't go wrong with the mean sambusas! I always get the taste of Awash and share with a friend!!

The best, most tasty, healthiest food you can eat. It's delicious and nutritious. The presentation is beautiful. The service may be considered slow because they make everything fresh. This is the place to get authentic Ethiopian cuisine! I've been many times and I've never been disappointed. I highly recommend trying Awash

The ambiance was nice with music playing, but the food was incredible! Full of flavor and spices. The sambusas were my fave with such a flaky crust. It was fun trying a different type of cuisine. Service wasn't bad but could improve. Although our server was helpful, her overall demeanor came across kind of cold. The place is nicely decorated however the restroom could use some sprucing up.

I'll start with the good. Service was amazing. Our server was very attentive being that it was my husband and i's first time trying Ethiopian food. She gave us a suggestion by adding lamb to our meal which turned out being our favorite of the night. Also there was a chilly powder served with the dish that was a great addition to the meat. I would say everything else didn't have much flavor. Didn't taste like much of anything, which was a bummer. I also had a mint lemonade, this was okay. The mint flavor stood out an awful lot. Wasn't expecting that. All in all it wasn't a bad experience for a first timer. I would definitely like to try other places to compare in the future.

So this is my very first time trying Ethiopian food. And I have to say the experience was well received. The young lady who took our order was very helpful and suggested things that were really really good. One of it was the lamb, which was just seasoned so well. Would definitely go back to try other things.

We got the taste of Awash which provides a variety of traditional Ethiopian foods served on a type of spongy bread. I honestly forgot the variety they had but I definitely recommend getting this if it's your first time trying ethiopian food because you get to try a little bit of everything and see what fits your taste. I, personally, wasn't the biggest fan probably because I'm not used to it but it's worth a try. The place had customers coming in and out but it wasn't too busy, just a regular business. There was only one server and she was polite.

Shared a delicious meal here with friends in a cozy, colorful space. The mint lemonade (especially) and fruit juices are so refreshing! We tried the crispy, mildly spicy sambusas with beef filling and the vegetarian combo platter. The dips are served on giant woven dishes atop a giant piece of injera, with other rolls of injera scattered. My favorites were the collard greens and savory orange lentil dip. The service was a little slow tonight; there was only one and they didn't give any utensils or water cups until the food arrived. There are many paintings on the walls and a traditional African meal/tea display along the back wall. It's certainly a memorable meal!

New menu, new decor for 2025 The place keeps the same charming African cozy vibe Food continues surprising with the spices and flavor and the beautiful presentation on the plate served to the table. Is a nice experience to try. Recommended

After many years of reading about this Ethiopian restaurant we had the opportunity to try it. It is really good. It's small place, almost sparely decorated, but my reason for going is the food, not ornate decor. The service is quite attentive and, importantly, knowledgeable about the food. We know Ethiopian food, but a refresher is helpful. Considering the number of people in the small place, the food appeared pretty quickly, freshly made. We chose to share the taste of Awash, a sampler of different meats, vegetables, and pulses and plenty of injera (bread). It's worth the trip.

What a delicious experience. We had a party of 6 and went with three appetizers, taste of awash for 2, and 2 entrees. The food was incredible. The lentil samusas were so hearty and the tomato firfir was an explosion of flavor with the perfect spice. The taste of awash is a must try if it's your first time here. It has a little bit of everything. The alicha wot was my absolute favorite alongside the cabbage. The doro wot chicken with the eggs was also a group favorite. The Ethiopian beer was malty and delicious. The mint lemonade is so refreshing. The service was great. The atmosphere was authentic and the decor gives you a peek into Ethiopian art and culture. I will definitely be back and leaving room for the baklava next time!
