Amazingly delicious Ethiopian food at Yellow Green Market! The ladies are super nice and it's easy to find the booth location not far from the main center area. My husband and I got a combo platter which was a hefty portion enough for two people to share. It was only $15 which is a bargain! It is full vegetarian but each different entree is unique and has its own distinctive flavors. The injera was perfect, spongey and not too sour. It is to be eaten by hand with the dishes on it. I'm always amazed at the amount of spices and rich flavors each dish has. My favorite was the yellow curried lentils and the potato cabbage carrot mixture. The center dish was also amazing too. My new love..... I've always wanted Ethiopian food but have never had a chance to taste it ... the one place that I knew of which was in The Design District closed a few years back before I ever had the chance to taste it. So when I heard about this place I jumped at the chance and I can confidently say that it is everything I was hoping for and even more. Upon walking up to the booth I was greeted by two friendly faces I assumed it was the owner and her daughter ... they handed me a menu as they hurrily tried to fill other orders but patiently I waited as I wasn't sure on what I wanted. My friend and I settled on splitting a sample platter when we saw another customer getting serves theirs. All I can say is that it was love at first bite. The food was so flavorful and very rich without being overly oily or heavy. The best part about it is for the most part it was healthy. We devoured our plate as soon as we got it. Only thing that I wish is that they weren't only open on Saturdays and Sundays during the market hours hopefully they will do so well that they will open a stand-alone so that I could eat anytime I wish. read more

This was my first time trying ethiopian food and I thought it was great and so did the rest of my party. I've been wanting to try this place out since we first visited the market and I see a lot of people with the platters, I've just always been full by the time we get here so I definitely recommend going to booth 187 before you walk around and try all the other places. We shared the large veggies platter for $15. We love spicy so our favorite was the misir wot lentil stew that was placed in the middle and my least favorite I believe was the eggplant wot but overall would get again! The only two things I did not appreciate was when I asked if there was a smaller platter and how much they would be, being curious for next time she just responded saying "smaller" and didn't seem to want to tell me the prize. I felt uncomfortable asking again maybe she thought I wanted to change my mind to share a small platter with 3 other people. When I type in a tip, I also don't appreciate being looked at and clearly spoken about in another language whether it's good or bad. read more

I am a lover of Ethiopian food, through and through, so I'll happily make my way through the crowds at Yellow Green to get to booth 187 (super close to the information booth, two stalls down from the giant cow on top of a tea stand). The injera, a spongy flatbread-type (like naan is to indian curry) that ferments like sourdough then gets cooked in a pan, is my absolute favorite thing. The ladies at Teff Fields make it wonderfully, and if you get the vegetarian platter, it comes with 3 total pieces (2 small rolls, and the injera all the wots sit on). You traditionally eat with your right hand, using the injera to scoop and pinch bites. However, at some point, the injera runs out and I like to turn to a fork instead of saucing up my hands. Overall, I love love love the misir wot. Anything spicy will get me (doro wot, a spicy chicken stew, is my favorite Ethiopian dish, but Teff Fields is completely vegan), and the kick I get from misir wot makes me visit again and again. The vegetarian platter comes with all of their stews, so you can try a little of everything. If there is something you don't want, ask the ladies to replace is with another serving of the others and they will happily do so! The stews are all vegetables (eggplant, beets, potatoes, collards, zucchini, cabbage) and beans (lentils, split peas, chick peas) - so you're in for something delicious and different with every bite. I've personally been able to eat an entire vegetarian platter on my own, on a very hangry day. But it's also large enough to share for $15, and individual wots are $6-7 on their own. I've always been lucky enough to sit right at their counter, which has two stools, but most people take a plate and eat on the picnic tables around the market, bringing their plates back once they've eaten every last bite. I prefer the stools, because the ladies are super friendly, and there is a water cooler on the counter if you need it. However, many (and I do mean many) people will stop and ask to take a picture of your meal. Or point over your shoulder at it. Or generally feel comfortable asking you questions while you're chowing down. It's all in friendliness though, because I feel most folks are intimidated by all the selections of stews and want to hear from a customer about it. Don't hesitate guys, just try it! In the end, I highly recommend Teff Fields if you're in the market already, as the meal will leave you both satisfied and energized. They do not seem to have Ethopian coffee or tea, though, which I was sad to not see. If you're searching for a meat wot (again, doro wot is a must), I would recommend Awash in Miami Gardens. read more

But if anything this farmers market is more like an experimental playground for up and coming restaurateurs, especially of the vegan persuasion. South Florida doesn't have the culinary diversity of San Francisco or New York, but we're steadily evolving. So for South Floridians to get an Ethiopian restaurant is the equivalent of a Mississippian BBQ pig roasting joint owned by Southern Baptists opening up shop in Tehran. Teff Fields is the lone African based cuisine in the Yellow Green Farmers market and its also owned & operated by an Ethiopian family. Ethiopian cuisine characteristically consists of vegetable and often very spicy meat dishes. This is usually in the form of a wot(a thick stew) served a top an injera(a large sourdough flatbread) that's made out of fermented teff flour. Ethiopians eat exclusively with their right hands, using pieces of injera to pick up bites of entrées and side dishes. Luckily unlike most Yellow Green newbs, Teff Fields has a small eat in counter and a table in the middle of the hallway. Their menu is littered with Ethiopian traditional dishes like doro wot(chicken), key wot(beef) and many vegetable & side options. Both times that I came here I ordered the same thing daro wot with a side of cabbage and corn. The first time everything minus the daro wot was near perfect, I felt as though the wot was not as spicy as it's suppose to be. Both the cabbage and the side of corn were tasty and went well with the injera bread. But the second time the daro wot came out pipping spicy just like how I love it. So practically every time I visit Yellow/Green Market, of all the food options here (and there are many), I come to Teff Fields! Because the food here is both tasty and beautiful. A feast for the senses really. They serve a variety of flavorful vegan yummies on a large, circular teff bread "tortilla", if you will. I don't know what it's called exactly. It all comes on a huge platter. And I can't tell you how many times I've been eating my Teff Fields food and someone stops me and asks, "What's that?" Followed by, "Where did you get it?" and I send them to Teff Fields. The veggies and legumes themselves are so colorful and aromatic. There is cabbage, red beets, lentils, spinach and all sorts of other stuff. I honestly don't know exactly what I am eating, although I know it's vegan, smells great, and tastes wonderful!! And you can tell it is prepared with a whole lot of love which makes it even more special. read more

I went ape crap when I heard that an Ethiopian restaurant had landed again in South Florida. I missed the two that shut down in Miami. This place will make you feel like home. The seating area is limited to about 4 seats but you can go to other places in the Green & Yellow Market to eat. The vegetarian platter is my suggestion and it's great. It's all here: mild, spicy, burning hot, exotic, adventurous, daring and exceptional all on one plate. I loved the word that another user used "experimental playground". I was so excited to try Ethiopian food. Once upon a time, there was a restaurant in the design district but I never ventured to go considering my palate had not matured as of then. There is definitely a lot of excitement over the food as they were busy. So why am I giving it 2 stars, it was not the best experience in terms of food quality. We ended up getting the usual dish everyone orders with the injera bread and approximately 10 different dishes placed on bread to eat. The yellow and green lentils were not cooked completely. She should have held back before serving. I even went so far as to verify recipes online to determine if this is the way its eaten in Ethiopia but no, its eaten the same way anyone would make lentils, here in South Florida, Bombay, Morocco, and the list goes on. The lentils need to be mushy, not hard. Lentils need to be eaten well cooked. Like many nuts, seeds and grains, they contain phytic acid, which binds minerals like calcium, magnesium and iron, rendering them unavailable for absorption into the body. Undercooked lentils are also hard to digest and may cause gastric distress. The other stuff was fine but should have been a little warmer, I know the conditions are not ideal there but we have eaten at another restaurant recently and they did exceptional. maybe its was not our lucky day, perhaps the future may be different, who knows read more

As the only Ethiopian eatery in Broward County (and Miami, to my knowledge) this place is worth a trip if you're craving Ethiopian eats. The menu is heavily vegetarian, with only a few meat options available as special items. I sampled several of the menu items at once with the full platter option priced reasonably at $14.99, and loved pretty much everything. It wasn't as good as the food served at Queen of Sheeba in West Palm Beach, but it's understandable given the restrictions regarding kitchen equipment for use at the Yellow Green Farmers' Market. read more

I'm sure they serve good food even I've not try this place "yet". Wait.....What~! Ok, I've already ate in plenty Ethiopian restaurants on the Eastern border of United States (NYC, DC, ATL, Orlando). So I already like the food to begin with. Bias, Bien sûr~! Food for me is like underwear, you're only the one know how good it can be~! But I've just spent over an hour tried to find this place driving under the hot Florida sun, by the time I got to it, it's already 3:45pm and this place it part of the Farmers Market which also close at 4pm. Oh, never mind the GPS, try Google map and go to direction it's more accurate. I've already tried 1 day ago online and found they close at 4pm. After 2 tries in a weekend, my patience ran out. I'll just go to my other favorite Ethiopian restaurants back in Manhattan. I'm an avid traveler around the world and I've not gotten so lost in Rome or Paris but this joint do push my patience a bit. Because it locates in the middle of nowhere, I meant "really" you'll see it when you get there yourself. I will come back to give more of a "fair" review next time I come to FL again. read more

Its hard to believe they are able to produce so much great food in such a small place. Recommend everything, but of course the Doro Wat is the star of the show. For those who don't have as much experience with Ethiopian cuisine - I observed the owner is more than happy to explain everything in detail in English, Hebrew, Amharic (and maybe even Spanish?). This was a very lovely surprise to find an authentic Ethiopian food stand in South Florida. The owner and her daughter are super friendly and polite. We got the sampler platter which allowed you to try several different stews with the injera bread. I included a picture. The injera bread is like a mild sourdough Ethiopian flat bread that your food sits on top of. Very delicious! Very reasonably priced for the quality and portion of food. While we sat there and ate the owner let us try some hot space and a different type of injera bread that is more sour. You get free spa water which was cucumber and parsley with your meal. I highly recommend this place. It's vegan and gluten free. They do serve meat options "to go" if you call and order in advance. read more

Visited the Yellow Green Farmers market on a Sunday specifically to try Ethiopian Food (thanks again Yelp). On this particular day, they only offered vegetarian options. I definitely loved the idea of eating with your hands using the injera bread as the vehicle for the spicy yellow peas, the curried cabbage/ carrot/ potato mixture, the lentils, the creamed spinach with spices and several other sides and spicy sauces I do not recall. All in all, it was a good experience. I was a little disappointed not to be able to try the meat or chicken dishes, but the vegetarian offerings were good. We ordered a huge sampler (enough for 2) including 9 different sides and extra injera bread all for $15 and I gave the lady $5 tip. Seating in the market was challenging and crammed (not the lady's fault). There are literally hundreds of little stands with vendors selling just about anything, and lots of food options, but not enough seating areas for customers. This was my first time eating Ethiopian and I enjoyed the flavors and injera bread. I will return if I am ever in Yellow Green Farmers Market. read more
