    Meat combo
    Roger M.

Just from waking past this place, you'd think it would just be another market/liquor store! They do cater to many Ethiopian/Eritrean restaurants in town (injera is made in house) but there is a restaurant in the very back! Portions here are massive! I'm talking about loads of meat, meat and meat! You'll be good just sharing one dish with a friend because you'll be stuffed and super bloated from the overdose of injera that is expanding in that belly of yours. I've tried many joints all around town and each one of them is good but this by far is the best bang for you buck because of the portions. Their meat is well marinated and full of flavor that'll make your taste buds happy. Trust me, the moment it hits your tongue, your mouth will immediately water up. If this is your first time (I'm sure it won't be your last either), go for either their meat combo or veggie combo (if you're a vegan/vegetarian). You'll get a taste of all their popular flavors. Share if you're not a big eater because this will make you stuffed beyond contentment. Please be open-minded and try out new ethnic food if you're one that sticks with the familiar. SD is a melting pot of cultures, especially on El Cajon Blvd. You won't be disappointed!

    Vegetarian plate!

Wow, this place blew me away. It was awesome. Everything about this place is authentic. Our waiter was the most friendly and awesome guy I've ever met. He took so much time with us helping us out with what we should order. We ordered the vegetarian plate, and it was great. It came with different lentils and collard green and injera which you use to pick up the different lentils. When we were done eating, we talked for an hour or two, and there was no rush whatsoever. I literally have nothing more to say... this place is just awesome.

Bought 1/2 lb of Berbere spice for $5. It came in an unmarked vacuum sealed plastic bag. I look forward to trying the restaurant.

Also, I come here for sauces , I get my wife's hot sauces here, and there's a ton of selections here. But lately I kept coming back here for their Fruits , my wife had sent me here this week like 3 times already for their fruits , the RAMBUTAN, LYCHEE, MANGOSTEEN. Other than Mango and Jackfruit that we get here, those 3 fruits are our favorite. So far these Fruits are still in season, so they are incredibly good. This grocery store is not as big or have many selections like H-Mart or 99 Ranch, but they do have a couple of great things you can still find here and great deals too sometimes. I don't see much staff around here but if I do need to ask for something they are helpful and friendly and guide me where I can find the food or item I'm looking for. For parking, they have a huge lot with parking spaces.

First of all, thanks so much for being open on July 4th!! So appreciated. Happy to celebrate my United States of Nijiya today! When I lived in SD 3 years ago, Nijiya always had such an amazing selection of produce, shelf items, sushi, korokke, miso (I didn't see こだわってます today tho)... and today was no different even though it's a holiday. Super well stocked and clean, bright, welcoming. They always have like 5 different varieties of negitoro which is my fav. I can't even tell you how comforting it is to come back after 3 years in Ohio lol I love that they have herbs and plants outside. Can't wait to buy some and inevitably kill them by accident later :) Staff is always sooo sweet here. The line always moves really quickly. Fish quality is always so fresh and delicious. Maybe the bento boxes etc aren't as flashy as Mitsuwa (from what I remember) but they are tasty and not super expensive. I also love that they have so many types of korokke and yakitori. I am so glad to be back and soooo glad to get my comfort food & feeling from Nijiya today. いつもありがとうございます!!!

The sushi here is really good and super fresh. You can tell right away it's made with care. The platters are a good deal too, especially for the quality you get. They also have a prepared foods section that's actually really convenient, plus a bunch of Japanese snacks and drinks you don't really see everywhere in the U.S. It's kind of cool just walking around and finding new stuff to try. Prices are fair, especially for how fresh everything is, and the staff is always nice and helpful. No complaints there. Overall, it's just one of those spots you can keep coming back to and know what you're gonna get good food, good service, and consistent quality.
