    Meat combo
    Roger M.

Just from waking past this place, you'd think it would just be another market/liquor store! They do cater to many Ethiopian/Eritrean restaurants in town (injera is made in house) but there is a restaurant in the very back! Portions here are massive! I'm talking about loads of meat, meat and meat! You'll be good just sharing one dish with a friend because you'll be stuffed and super bloated from the overdose of injera that is expanding in that belly of yours. I've tried many joints all around town and each one of them is good but this by far is the best bang for you buck because of the portions. Their meat is well marinated and full of flavor that'll make your taste buds happy. Trust me, the moment it hits your tongue, your mouth will immediately water up. If this is your first time (I'm sure it won't be your last either), go for either their meat combo or veggie combo (if you're a vegan/vegetarian). You'll get a taste of all their popular flavors. Share if you're not a big eater because this will make you stuffed beyond contentment. Please be open-minded and try out new ethnic food if you're one that sticks with the familiar. SD is a melting pot of cultures, especially on El Cajon Blvd. You won't be disappointed!

    Vegetarian plate!
    Katie B.

Wow, this place blew me away. It was awesome. Everything about this place is authentic. Our waiter was the most friendly and awesome guy I've ever met. He took so much time with us helping us out with what we should order. We ordered the vegetarian plate, and it was great. It came with different lentils and collard green and injera which you use to pick up the different lentils. When we were done eating, we talked for an hour or two, and there was no rush whatsoever. I literally have nothing more to say... this place is just awesome.

You walk in expecting Vons. You get Saigon. The produce section alone deserves its own theme music. Herbs, mushrooms, greens you didn't even know had names -- all fresher and cheaper than anything your American supermarket is pretending to offer. It's a straight-up cornucopia. Then you hit the meat counter and suddenly Ralphs and Vons feel like they should issue an apology. Marrow bones, femurs, trotters -- if you're making pho, ramen, chicken stock, or just want to feel like a culinary warlock, this is your playground. You will walk out with ingredients you didn't plan on buying and absolutely no regrets. Every aisle has some kind of delightful chaos. Dried pineapple flowers for homemade bitters for your signature cocktail? Absolutely. Industrial-sized bags of frog meat? Listen... maybe not for me. But if you need it, this is the place. No judgment, only abundance. It's as big as any mainstream grocery store, but stocked with so much cool stuff it feels like a teleportation portal to Southeast Asia. You come for one thing, you leave with twenty, and somehow you're still thrilled about it. Five stars. A must-visit. And if you start making better broth after shopping here, you can thank me later.

First of all, thanks so much for being open on July 4th!! So appreciated. Happy to celebrate my United States of Nijiya today! When I lived in SD 3 years ago, Nijiya always had such an amazing selection of produce, shelf items, sushi, korokke, miso (I didn't see こだわってます today tho)... and today was no different even though it's a holiday. Super well stocked and clean, bright, welcoming. They always have like 5 different varieties of negitoro which is my fav. I can't even tell you how comforting it is to come back after 3 years in Ohio lol I love that they have herbs and plants outside. Can't wait to buy some and inevitably kill them by accident later :) Staff is always sooo sweet here. The line always moves really quickly. Fish quality is always so fresh and delicious. Maybe the bento boxes etc aren't as flashy as Mitsuwa (from what I remember) but they are tasty and not super expensive. I also love that they have so many types of korokke and yakitori. I am so glad to be back and soooo glad to get my comfort food & feeling from Nijiya today. いつもありがとうございます!!!

I called in my order, and was greeted with a very friendly voice. In taking my order, she asked if I wanted everything in them. I've never been asked that before, and not wanting to miss out on anything, I said yes. I didn't know what to expect, but when I arrived I was really impressed. This is a 3 in 1 Mexican market. A full size local Mexican grocery store, a meat market that will blow you away, and last but not least, freshly cooked Mexican food to go. The weight of my 2 burritos in the bag immediately told me, I got a big bang for my buck. Prices are more than reasonable. Once I got home, I immediately knew I had a lot of food. I cut each one in half, and that was plenty for 4 meals. Then I discovered the burrito had beans and rice in them. I'm not sure I ever had them made like that before, but the beans made the overall burrito very juicy or moist, but not runny or dripping with grease like so many other places I have visited. They have the highest Yelp rating for Mexican food in Linda Vista, and now I know why. Don't question it, if you're in the mood for delicious Mexican food, and don't want to overpay, this is a no-brainer place to go shopping.
